Excellent presentation! I like the way you pointed out things and summarized a lot of the things instead of taking time to show each one doing the test over and over. It’s about the best format I’ve seen for a tool comparison.
well, there are other comparings between the Bosch and Milwaukee both on 12Ah and the Bosch outperformed the Milwaukee on speed and endurance. The table is more adjustable. The only point the Milwaukee is clearly better is dust collection...
Thank you for doing these. You're awesome! And not only are you awesome at testing, you're also awesome at presenting. Always a pleasure to see and listen to you! Keep up the good work!
Years ago if you said to me there will be reviews of cordless 12” mitre saws coming out I’d of laughed at you, how cordless technology has come along in the last 10 years is amazing.
Thanks for this thorough comparison. Accuracy is #1 for me. I watched this but am not interested in a cordless miter saw but am in the market for a corded one.
I love my 12in flexvolt miter saw. At first I bought the Milwaukee bc I’m invested in their platform. But once I realized you can run the Dewalt on battery or ac. I had to have that. Plus I’ve been looking at a couple other Dewalt tools so getting their miter saw opened up that platform for me. Great review!!
@@jeffb321 I actually owned the 10in cordless makita but it was just so heavy and like moving a slab of concrete around. But I did like the rail system on it. That a nice feature
I have the Dewalt too. The ability to be able run it on AC or battery was a must-have for me. I wish their FlexVolt Table Saw had AC power as an option too.
I just started the video and can't wait to see the results. I have the Milwaukee and have zero complaints. Just wish Milwaukee made a nice portable stand.
Agree! The stand sucks. I must say that being 20-25% lighter makes a huge difference to me. You would think this would be a huge deciding factor. Who would even want a cordless shop saw? Portability, accuracy and dust collection are important factors for a job site miter saw. I have the 12”, 10” and 2 - 7 1/4” Milwaukee cordless saws on the jobs every day. The 10” just plain sucks! It never touches crown. As far as ac/dc goes, it never is a concern because I have 5 - 12AH batteries for the 12” and at least 2 - 8AH batteries for each of the other saws. I don’t use cords on the job at all. Also have 2 Milwaukee table saws on Dewalt stands, lol. Kinda surprised they didn’t even mention the one key? It’s nice knowing I can lock down the saw when we go to lunch and also track the 12” and table saws. I run $100+ blades on the 12” and don’t need some concrete guy throwing a nail infested, covered in concrete board on my saw while we are out to lunch. I also think most people know better than to steal a One-Key tool. I only leave the One-Key tools on the job if not in a gang box and have yet to have one stolen. I lock them and grab the battery. I figured this was something worthy of at least mentioning. I believe it’s more protective than a chain by far. If locked, it’s useless if stolen and they can be tracked! Most know that and I make a point of explaining it to anyone that asks on the job.
Another great informative video. Although I am in the UK, you are my "go to" guys for tool tests and reviews. Thank you for all of the on and off screen time and effort you put in so we don't have to.
Great review. I agree with Milwaukee on real world use and would have ranked it first in run time/cuts, moving it up behind the Makita into second place. That Makita is a very nice saw but I've bought into the Milwaukee platform. For many of us, we'll end up with the tool the corresponds to the battery platform we've selected. I just picked up the 7 1/4 Milwaukee miter saw and love it.
I agree, skewing the run time data for the Milwaukee in the way that they did doesn't make sense to me, the saw made the number of cuts that it made, so what if they weren't in rapid fire succession. I think it would've been more accurate to credit it for the actual number of cuts and perhaps include an asterisk explaining the thermal protection issue resulting from unrealistic usage in the testing procedure. Correcting that one score puts it in close second behind the Makita (which looks like very nice saw). With excellent scores in dust collection, features, and ergonomics, if you factor in the lower price, the Milwaukee becomes the logical choice for anyone not already invested in a particular battery platform, but not willing to shell out the higher price of the Makita. I would also tend to agree though that while it is nice to see how these saws stack up against each other, most of us who are deeply invested in a particular battery platform will just end up buying the one that works with our existing batteries. Excellent review overall, thanks guys!
@@n.c.1838 correcting that one score would cause the Makita to drop a point which in turn would give Milwaukee and Makita an overall tie. I think they realized what they did but then decided they didn't want to give the least accurate saw (milwaukee) the overall win.

Interesting to see how many people love the makita. We had makita saws in my high school shop class and they just felt cheap. Years later I was working for a fine furniture maker and his saw was a makita which he only really used for rough cutting but I hated the feel of that saw too. Admittedly I haven’t used their newest model but I really love my dewalt more than any other saw I’ve used, and I’m a Milwaukee guy for the record
because despite the 'cheapness' they are built like tanks. Think of it as Ak47 vs M16...AK47 just always works even if it feels loose compared to an AR style weapon.
While bosch came in last, I am really excited for them because the corded version is what we use in the shop and we love it. I am invested in dewalt battery so that's what I'll be looking at, but I wish that they would bring more innovation instead on just resting on a good design.

I Think you should give company award for best overall. At end of year total up scores see want best brand of tool for the year. That would be cool. Thanks all your hard work.
Great testing. Only suggestion is each category has a wider range than 1,2,3,&4. If the difference between 1st and 2nd is greater than between 2nd and 3rd, category points should reflect that. This can be accomplished with a 1-10 scale, with best and worst getting 1 point and 10, and the other two on the scale relative to the best and worst. An example how this might work is say one got 400 cuts, and the others got 200, 210, and 220. Points would be awarded at 1, 8, 9, 10 ( or inverse points if you'd like). This way, a tool that dominates in one category is rewarded overall, rather than equal weighting based only in rank.
A couple of points, firstly, the DeWalt is the only one I (and many) would ever consider as it's the only saw that has an AC adapter which is a huge plus. The other point is that I actually bought the Makita and after a week of work and back and forth with the shop and Makita, it could not be trued from full extension. It's a relatively well-known issue if you search for it, the way the arm is set up causes it to not run square no matter what you do (there is a hack that involves trusting the arm but even that couldn't make mine perfect). I will admit that it is an absolutely stunning saw, almost a work of art and I WISHED that this true square issue was fixed. I took it back and got the Dewalt - never looked back.
That's easily fixed by loosening a set screw & tweaking the rails. But no you shouldn't have to do that to a new saw. I did a lot of fine tuning to my Makita but love using it.
I think that was a 10" model issue. Your the first person i have heard say this if you are referring to the 12" version. The 10" version was out well before they released the 12" i think makita addressed that issue before the 12 came out....
Rob, I really appreciate your head-to-head test videos. They provide impressions for the "fresh out of the box" experience. Does your gang of testers have any long-term results regarding how well the tools hold up under use at the jobsite?
Thank you for all your hard work and time spent to bring this review, but at the end of the day guys will buy the brand of cordless tool in the platform they're vested in.
Great job. I love all the data you shared with us. I trust your reviews and know I will make a more informed decision when purchasing my new miter saw. Thank you!!!
very nicely done. My findings were about the same. I was torn between the Dewalt and Makita, I have the corded Bosch and like it, but the mitre cut height at the back was not tall enough to do over 4.5" material with out hitting the product. Went Dewalt because of price. Thanks for the video.
THANK YOU! Thank you for this great in depth video I know everyone who watched this video really appreciates it plus all the other videos you and your team do 👍🏾
Awesome video, love all your videos. I found it interesting that your take on the Bosch as I chose the corded version for my shop for all the reasons you stated.
Ive been running this saw with aws for exactly a year now!!! I absolutely love it. I would recommend watching my review of the saw on my page after you get your saw though. I did have a warranty issue right out of the box. I explain this in the video!!! Hope you enjoy this awesome saw!
You’re going to love it. So smooth and such a small footprint. Only thing I don’t like is that it’s hard to keep the rails clean as they are greased heavily.
Might be too late, but don't buy the Makita saw stand to go with it, it is absolute junk. I bought one and was amazed a company like Makita would make it. I ended up throwing it away and I bought a Bosch stand to go with the Makita saw, it's the perfect combo.
Great review. I've been using the Dewalt Cordless 12" miter saw for 3 years now. I bought it at first because I was already on that platform and I liked the AC option. Also I've been using dewalt miter saws since I was 15 and I just like them and know them inside and out. Last week it died and I had to send it off for repair. I knew it would be a couple of months till I get it back so I bought the 12" cordless Milwaukee because my local store had it in stock and I needed to keep working. I like it, the only thing I don't like about it is that its not my dewalt and certain switches and stuff is different than the dewalt. I just got word yesterday that my dewalt will be back in about 3 weeks and initially I was just going to sell the Milwaukee but now I'm going to keep it. The Dewalt will go back in my tool trailer as my day to day work saw, but I like the Milwaukee enough that I'm just going to keep it at home and it may even see a job site from time to time.
I've used Makita Bosch and DeWalt. For fine woodwork I like the bosch, smooth and just a great tool. The Makita is super reliable and had it for 25 years and the Dewalt is a good all arounder.
I was going to get a 10” mitre saw but dewalt doesn’t have a cordless version. I’m not scared of changing brands but this video just made me decide to get the 12” dewalt. I’m already on this platform so it’s convenient. I watched a few different reviews but these people know details and geek out a bit more which I appreciate. What I’m getting out of this is dewalt is the best all around saw. I like makita but the weight of it turned me off.
I picked up the 10" Makita a few months ago for $500. Came with a dual port rapid charger and four 5ah batteries. If you don't need the extra cutting depth this is a far batter deal than the 12" at half the price with 2 more batteries.
A big thanks Rob for this review and ALL your reviews!! Appreciated very much here, also thanks to all the others that helped with this!! Hope you have a Merry Christmas and let's hope for a much more productive new year in 2021!! 🍻🍻
I've got the latest Makita 12" corded saw. Fit and finish is awesome and it was accurate right out of the box. For a test I made a small picture frame. The miters were tighter than a nun's @#%+. The thing I don't like about it it the bevel adjustment knob. With the dewalt I can quickly whip the head left or right quickly, with the makita it seems like I'm doing a lot of cranking on the knob. And doing base, regardless of height, I always cut a miter on the bevel. Dewalt gets my vote, corded or cordless.
Hey Rob and guys. Really appreciate the time effort and expense you have too put into your head to head's videos. Saves the rest of us a lot of searching, reviewing and money. So as consumers we all have a much better understanding of what will work for us. Really indepth and informative. I always look for your videos before I pull the trigger on my new perches. 👏👏👏💪 Ps always great getting reviews form people in the trade who make a living from using the tools they review.
The Makita saw has an aluminium detent plate for the mitre adjustment, and it quickly wears out, meaning you must manually set the angle every time, because the notches become very sloppy and inaccurate. It's also very heavy and the fence is a sub optimal design. I love Makita, they make great tools, but this was a deal breaker for me, having spent a lot of time on my workmates saw, I chose the Dewalt. Dewalts mitre saws and table saws are the best all round options for site use in my opinion. The Bosch looks like a nightmarish contraption, and the Milwaukee is probably decent, but nobody here in NZ uses their tools, because they are eye wateringly expensive and don't last like Makita does. My Dewalt saw has been awesome, it's smooth, not too heavy considering how big it is, and it was pretty accurate out of the box. It's also solidly built, and has sensible features with no gimmicks. The same can not be said of many other Dewalt tools, some of the stuff in their cordless line appears to be designed by people who have never actually used power tools, and the quality control is patchy. The Dewalt mitre saws still seem benefit from the legacy of Dewalt prior to being bought by Stanley Black and Decker though, and are not made in China like most of their tools. Makita has a history of just slightly missing the mark with their mitre saws and table saws. The quality is always there, but they always have these annoying design flaws, and lately they have been trying to reinvent the wheel. The Dewalt is a classic mitre saw which may seem outdated with its straight slides with bronze bushings, but it just gets it right. I can't really think of anything I would want different on it. I recently had to do 22.5 degree mitres on some high gloss thermoformed kitchen toe kicks with it, and I had no chipping of the finish, and was able to make those mitres absolutely perfect, with no gaps whatsoever.
@@alejandrocuellar15 I did wonder if that was the case, they are a fairly popular saw. I'm honestly shocked that a company as good as Makita would do something like that.
@@Patrick-857 you do bring very valid points tho, and of course most of these after market detent plates are not the same quality as a genuine makita part, which they have access to expensive equipment and all. I consider myself a makita fan boy at heart, but we all have to remember they are a company here to make money, every company has to "cut corners" where they can. And most people will not invest the extra money for a detent plate, and wait for shipping. I suppose we are the select few we care about everything down to the last detail, especially when your paying top dollar. Even the feststool mitersaws have their issues and use a lot more plastic than metal. I still love the makita miter saw and am looking to upgrade to the 12 in. The community does appreciate your feed back, most people don't know about the detent issue untill they start to notice it. And even then many people dont zero in their mitersaw. They just use it out the box and most are happy with "almost perfect." It just depends on who you are and your view points. I love makita wood working tools but I'm a Milwaukee light guy for sure. Makita is bearly comming out with tower lights and they are still 3000 lumens less than the new Milwaukee Which you can already go buy ( they are releasing the base model basically so they can later release and improved model once they make millions and off the base model), also most of their lights are not ip rated, almost all of Milwaukees are.
love your channel. As a former framer I wonder when you would need a cordless beast like that? I understand cordless an then I also understand setting up. love my new 36 volt makita worm drive but I don't see I replacing my old skill 77 for cutting custom roofs on big ocean front homes. than you.

Hi Kam, I just put up a post mentioning the issues I’ve had with my Milwaukee. It may give you insight on that particular tool in my experience.
I'm glad the Makita came in the best especially for accuracy I just ordered one comes Friday
Thanks for sharing 😁 👍
Thanks a lot for your tests and comparisons. It was extremely helpful for me. Thanks again.
Glad it was helpful!
Amazing! Neat axle glide, that’s a game changer for small workshops. Thanks Rob and team!
Agree, I love the Makita also but Bosch hasn’t ever failed me so for me it be Bosch first Makita second. I’m biased sorry. Lol
The amount of effort you put into this review is certainly commendable
Shopping today, great review!
Rock on!
One of the most detailed reviews I’ve seen. Appreciate it! 👍🏻
Thanks for the comprehensive review.
شكرًا جزيلا لكم على المعلومات المفيدة التي قدمتوها لنا من خلال هذا الفيلم اللطيف .

Thank you for all your hard work and time spent to bring this review, but at the end of the day guys will buy the brand of cordless tool in the platform they're vested in.
Rob really enjoyed the assessment, I think its real world and whats important in the field
As Always Great Head to Head Test! So much solid data to chew on here!
Thanks again!
Great job. I love all the data you shared with us. I trust your reviews and know I will make a more informed decision when purchasing my new miter saw. Thank you!!!
I'm a fan of milwaukee, but I gotta say. Bosch did surprise me
Awesome review! Just got the Milwaukee 12” Love it. I got it as I have the 7 1/4” and it’s amazing
I get the impression that if I hadn't seen the scoring board the bosch would have been the winner. So much about how cool it is you talked about.
We love the Axle Glide - it just didn't score high enough to meet our expectations
very nicely done. My findings were about the same. I was torn between the Dewalt and Makita, I have the corded Bosch and like it, but the mitre cut height at the back was not tall enough to do over 4.5" material with out hitting the product. Went Dewalt because of price. Thanks for the video.
I love my Dewalt Flexvolt saw, it's been a solid performer.
I really want one of the Bosch or Delta corded miter saws. Being able to have your saw right next to the wall is huge in a tiny shop
Same goes for an in a trailer set-up.
Excellent! Thanks to everyone for their work in presenting this video!
THANK YOU! Thank you for this great in depth video I know everyone who watched this video really appreciates it plus all the other videos you and your team do 👍🏾
Thanks
I own the DCS 727 Model, it is great. 12 inch is to big for me. But your Video is very informative
Great work guys! Thank you for your hard work.
Awesome video, love all your videos. I found it interesting that your take on the Bosch as I chose the corded version for my shop for all the reasons you stated.
Same, wouldn't trade it for any of the other saws, and most of my tools are yellow😅
Love your reviews. Though your neighbors must hate all that noise on test day.
hi Rob,Thanks for your review. I have the makita 10 inch and would by the 12 inch makita for stationary/shop saw!
What a weird coincidence. I just ordered the Makita on the night before this video was posted.
Ive been running this saw with aws for exactly a year now!!! I absolutely love it. I would recommend watching my review of the saw on my page after you get your saw though. I did have a warranty issue right out of the box. I explain this in the video!!! Hope you enjoy this awesome saw!
Good pick
You’re going to love it. So smooth and such a small footprint. Only thing I don’t like is that it’s hard to keep the rails clean as they are greased heavily.
Might be too late, but don't buy the Makita saw stand to go with it, it is absolute junk.
I bought one and was amazed a company like Makita would make it.
I ended up throwing it away and I bought a Bosch stand to go with the Makita saw, it's the perfect combo.
Wow great review mate
Glad you liked it!
Another great video Rob. Keep up the great work
Nice video thanks for the review
Thanks guys, another great job.
I love my DeWalt DWS779 and I have the Makita 10” Cordless and performs great and looks beautiful but boy is it heavy 😮💨
Thank you for all of these head to heads!
I'm so glade makita won this event. Im invited in makita tool. Glade see they make some best tools.
Thanks best video I have seen! Keep it up!
Glad you liked it!
Thanks Rob, great video.
You guys do such thorough reviews. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Great Great reveiw! Dewalt for me. Flexvolt batteries are great and can use them on my other Dewalt tools
I picked up the 10" Makita a few months ago for $500. Came with a dual port rapid charger and four 5ah batteries. If you don't need the extra cutting depth this is a far batter deal than the 12" at half the price with 2 more batteries.
But where? Only ever seen 2 battery one for 800
@@ianjacobs9956 Prices went up unfortunately and Makita isn't doing many big sales now. Probably won't see the price that low again.
oh wow, meanwhile its 2100nzd (1500usd) with 2 batterys in 2023
@@kylehocking420Yeah, it's not much better in the US now. Definitely glad I purchased when I did.
Another awesome product review!
You guys have been killing it with amazing videos, keep it up!
Hello i think the new 40v xgt makita tales the number one spot
Great job giys
Good choice!
A big thanks Rob for this review and ALL your reviews!! Appreciated very much here, also thanks to all the others that helped with this!!
Hope you have a Merry Christmas and let's hope for a much more productive new year in 2021!! 🍻🍻
Thank you - you too sir
Just bought a makita 7 1/4 18v saw for black Friday deal at home depot. I may just hop on the miter saw as well.
👏👏👏💪
Ps always great getting reviews form people in the trade who make a living from using the tools they review.
is this dewalt up to snuff against say their 780? same power when plugged in?
Yes
@@ConcordCarpenter thank you sir these are a bit hard to track down without having to pre-order
Super review i like a lot
There are people who make replacement detents, I purchased a stainless steel detent plate for that exact reason, look up stene wood working
@@alejandrocuellar15 I did wonder if that was the case, they are a fairly popular saw. I'm honestly shocked that a company as good as Makita would do something like that.
great points thanks for sharing
Hi Rob I'm from the UK
Great job as always!
love your channel. As a former framer I wonder when you would need a cordless beast like that? I understand cordless an then I also understand setting up. love my new 36 volt makita worm drive but I don't see I replacing my old skill 77 for cutting custom roofs on big ocean front homes. than you.
