This is the race I love to watch. You never get to know who wins it until the last second, no matter who you are cheering for you will have your a heart attack until they finish it.
Eliud Kipchoge was truly destined for greatness...winning this race when only aged 18 against great athletes like Hicham El Guerroug and Kenenisa Bekele was incredible and marked the beginning of his real climb to the top that has culminated in him being the greatest marathoner ever and the first to clock under 2hrs.
The #3 guy, Bekele, at age 41 ran a 2:04 marathon this Sunday in Valencia beating among others the current simultaneous 5K/10K WR holder, an honor Bekele himself held for like 15 years until 2020.
The foundation of Kipchoge is deep and disciplined. The man has grown from strength to strength for nearly two decades. Well done Kip, you make Kenya proud. For the race, it was an African affair
Hicham El Guerrouj is a legend best of all times record holder of 3 distances till now unbelievable and one of two in history who got 2 gold medals in same Olympic Games can’t talk about a certain distances without mentioning his name Amazing 🤩
That slow motion replay of kipchoges run down the home straight really shows what potential he had to be a distance running great,, at 18 yrs but going hard against two greats of distance running, that sprint was a massive burn up and he was just willing his legs in the last few meters with grit and determination,, all hallmarks of his great mental strength which has been such an asset in his marathon career,, one of the all time great 5000m races and a deserving champion 👏
@@panama8009 hilarous people tend to get offended by mo farah, maybe jealous? olympics double gold for 5k and 10k twice and several championships golds are maybe a joke for these fanatics haha
When I watched this race live, I could not believe Kipchopge was only 18. Yet here we are, an Olympic champion 18 years later. What I also failed to see was that Kipchoge had a clipped marathoner's stride while running sub-13:00 pace. Considering the competition, Paris 2003 5k is the greatest footrace ever filmed.
Kipchoge has a real chance of producing a fairy tale ending in Paris. Paris was the location where he burst onto the scene and defeated both prime Bekele and prime El G. Will Paris be once more be the scene, where he exits the stage in a glorious fashion?
That race was the perfect lesson for Hicham to win the olympic medal a year later As 1500m runner attacking earlier in a 5000m race wasn't the good strategy
I' m a fan of all of these guys, 3 champs, 3 WR holders in 1500m, 5K/10K and Marathon. I have a theory watching them biomechanically: Bekele is a beast but he needed more abdominals to be faster in the last 80mt. He seems to be stronger to pull back terrain than rise up knees. He's not a 100m sprinter ok, but at that level you can't consider that high speed is needed to get first at photofinish... All greats btw.
It is an incredible phenomenon to watch these brave runners showing their great potential. I didn't see Kenenisa losing a gold. Now I know. Very amazing how Kenenisa became world record holder in both 5k & 10k from 2004 till 2020 & winning the gold medal in both the 5k & 10k at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Hats off for the braves!

KIPCHOGE..a hard-working Young man who broke the Ethiopian pride on track and has since then proved God can raise the humble over the high and mighty by reigning supreme over Bekele on the roads. Nobody imagined in this race Kip could beat the Bekele leave alone the Moroccan. Live long Kip. Abandance of blessings. Enjoy your hard earned livelihood! Bekele, you too has made EA proud and the unrelenting Gebreselasie. Kenya, Ethiopia, you bring the best out of each other and we shall be forever, the EA brothers NOT RIVALS.
I love seeing Kipchoge disapproving commentator who usually have preformed judgement on some of the athletes. Kipchoge wins against all odds and against commentator's profiling of their favourite athlete whom they waste time giving them a "face" the whole race Kudos Kenyan boy, Kipchoge
They're training is almost impossible to do for a normal person. They grew into consistent work of pure effortful long runs and painful speed intervals🔥
certainly one the all-time great 5000 meters. Bekele had to go around the outside in the stretch on the last lap and that cost him maybe a second or two. El Guerrouj was a sportsman of the highest caliber, offering his hand in congratulations to the young Eliud Kipchoge. Who would have predicted that Kipchoge and Bekele would eventually be the greatest marathon runners of the present time?
In my opinion the greatest 5k of all time. The three fastest distance runners of all time in one race.
The 2008 Beijing Olympics is my favorite both the womens and mens
The 5000 in 2004 was even better gotta see that one unforgettable with same great runners but Oh My God what a speed last 800 m was unbelievable!🤩
Eliud Kipchoge, Hicham El Guerrouj and Kenenisa Bekele. Three of the greatest of all time.
i wonder how Mo would have fared against those 3.....not well i would imagine
Remember the race very well and an equally good one in the Athens Olympics a year later where the Moroccan prevailed there having already won the 1500m there.
Mo is a sit-n-kicker. Can't handle fast paces like this.
Also, all three ran faster in the race than Mo's all time personal best.
The days when long distance track men was worth watching. Now it’s all sit and kickers.
And Eliud Kipchoge is still racing 20 years later. Now, he's the greatest marathoner of all time. What a career he's had
