Fun Fact: in Resident Evil 4, one of the guns that Leon can use in the game is called the Matilda, as a nod to Leon and Matilda from this movie.
Gary Oldman's onscreen insanity is rated "E" for Evverryyyyoooonnneeee!
And Yes, Detective Stansted(G.Oldman) means, EEEEEEEveRRy one!
I didn't know this... but, the actor who was opposite Gary Oldman when he blasted the "EVERYONE" line... he was a firefighter, who was killed at the September 11 attacks when the South Tower collapsed.
Keith A. Glascoe was his name.
Mathilda has a crush on Léon. There's nothing bad in it. He’s the first man to show her he cares about her.
I knew Natalie Portman would become an Oscar winning actress after watching this movie.
Yep. Her and Dakota the two best imho.
She's really great in Beautiful Girls. Outstanding cast but she takes it. ❤
You probably were a kid when this movie came out, if you were even alive yet.
I love Gary Oldman in everything he does. From Sirius Black to Dracula man just morphs in to any character he plays.
Facts. He’s my favorite actor.
The greatest.
Legendary bad man, actors can always go the extra mile being the baddie, the goodie has to follow the rules.
In everything he does?
- EVERYTHING!!!
P.S. Loved seeing him in Oppenheimer.
I'm not very disappointed in what you've said
Neither Leon or Matilda had anyone really, the genuine love they had for each other wasn't romantic.
Matilda was young, traumatized, and confused.
Leon's not taking advantage of her was his love for her. Almost paternal.
Such great performances from each.
Exactly this movie was so edited in the US
@@miguelkennedy3840 Not by much. Mind I really love this movie, but the added scenes take away from the story. As many have said, she is a confused child, but the left turn tone shift does not work. It slows down the movie and just does not work well.
Because in the American cut you get that same feeling when Matilda just out of nowhere says that they are lovers to the desk clerk. And even then it never made allot of sense she would do that (attention?). Because to me (knowing people somewhat like Matida's parents, and kids like Matilda), she would have held on to the only good thing in her life tight, and would not jeopardize that.
Yeah... you might not want to look into what the original intention was by the writer/director in the script, it's pretty gross...
even if all you said is true - its still fubar
Its on record that this Besson's own relationship with his (ex)wife was the inspiration for this. To quote wiki - 'Maïwenn met film director Luc Besson when she was 12 and he was 29, and they began dating when she was 15. In January 1993, at age 16, she gave birth to their daughter Shanna. On the DVD extras for the 1994 film Léon: The Professional, Maïwenn said the film is based on her relationship with Besson'. Film seems problematic without this, but *with*, its bananas.
That girl is Natalie Portman and she was just 13 when she acted in her first movie, Leon.
STRANGE how this movie was never nominated for any Oscars.... CRIMINAL!
French movie
@@AaronGuilbert-nw3ge Oui.
Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, Shawshank Redemption, Four Wedding & A Funeral, Quiz Show were the movies nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars that year.
Here in Europe (Italy) Jean Reno is very appreciated and famous. Love this movie
There are some over here that really know him as Victor The Cleaner.
Great French (by way of morocco) actor!
Same in the UK ❤
I loved his performance in 22 Bullets.
"This is making me uncomfortable"
Yeah, it's supposed to.
It is written and directed with those moments in mind, they are designed to make you feel uneasy about the situation you are watching. The overall story is made to show you how trauma can impact people in different ways: They are both damaged people trying to deal with their past issues in very wrong ways.
The wild part is that the movie actually toned it down from the novel it's based on.
EDIT: And for reference, Mathilda is supposed to be 12...
Gary Oldman’s performance is one of my favorites of all time by any actor! In my humble opinion He is one of the best character actors i have ever seen in my 50 years of existence
Every Gary Oldman performance is one of the best of all time IMHO ;)
You know who's been waiting for this movie?
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEVERYYYYYYYYYYYYYOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Matilda just had an infatuation. It’s up to adults to draw the line. Leon did a good job.
The part where "we" are more comfortable with the violence than the (dysfunctional) emotional story, says so much
The “violence” was mostly self defense.
@@aj897 Not on the part of all the crooked cops.
American's moral compass
"EVERYOOOOOOOOONNNNEEEE"!!!!!!
Every time you ask "why would she do that?!" While Matilda has an old soul, she's also a teenage girl.
This movie was so good, and Natalie Portman was incredible, so young and so talented.
Jean Reno, Natalie Portman and Gary Oldman did a fantastic job in this movie and R.I.P Keith A. Glascoe (Benny) he was one of the firefighter's that died on september 11th 2001 at the world trade center also did a fantastic job in this movie
40:28 After 30 years of watching this movie I have never thought of the old lady in her apartment being toast. 🤣
dont they move to another place so they can't be found?
@@starlightstarbright7302 They moved two times, so that lady wouldn't be there.
She is 12, and has a crush on the first father she's ever had.
John Lennon was raised by his aunt, and when he met his mom eventually he kinda had a crush on her
It's literally the only reason I think the movie is okay.
That's what I keep telling my gf's dad but he doesn't understand cuz he racist
@@cheebees prayers and hugs.
@soldierx345 I use to have a crush on one of my mom's friends when I was much younger than Matilda. I even told her.
This movie has two version: The Professional, and Leon The Professional. You watched Leon The Professional. The other one is the American release, which cuts out the montage of Matilda joining Leon on a bunch of assassinations, and also tones down some of her budding romance for him, as it rubbed test audiences the wrong way.
I could never find the original Leon the professional movie.
Definitely a classic. The world was introduced to Natalie Portman. Later on, some disturbing information came out about the director, Luc Besson. He's a sick dude and it seems he was obsessed with younger girls which explains the relationship between Matilda and Leon.
Underrated?! This is one of my favorite movies! Great to see you react to it, but if people are talking down about it, that's news to me.
Underrated doesn't mean people are saying something isn't good, it means they're barely talking about it or that it's not celebrated enough.
@@ButtonDiet95in which this movie is neither
Underrated means that it's better than people say it is.
The budget was 16m it made 60 the first week at box office. I know what you mean though, its not as talked about as other movies that aren't as good.
Yeah very wrong choice in words for this movie. I don't know anyone that did not like the film.
All the people he wacked off😅
That smile looking clean without the bars, Leo!! Nice work!
Lol your face when you said " that ain't no Adderall" lol
What was it he was taking?
@@ArkaeaFCL3 I believe it is Librium
@@TheRepublican777 ah gotcha! Thanks!
"This is from Matilda " gets me every time. Also I'm pretty sure that old lady is OK because that's a different hotel, they moved twice
Congratulations on getting your braces off! Great reaction as always. 🙌🏾🙌🏾
I loved the braces look. Oh well. Still looking great!
My dad was named after John Wayne. RIP daddy! Vietnam veteran. Yes I'm 31 my dad adopted me in his early 50s when I was 3 months! God bless our soldiers
"EVERYONE!!!"
Epic!
The fact that you wanting to get her ID to see her age is...WOW...i dont give a damn what the ID says, shes clearly a kid LMAO!
Mr. Besson is one of the most eclectic filmmakers ever.
LEON (Interational Uncut version) and The Professional (U.S. Version) altogether,
his first worldwide smash and an incredible piece of work.
That 'anti-hero with a heart of gold and an sidekick" archetype.
Often seen in Western or Samurai dramas.
But in an crime drama like this, it still hits.
Jean Reno as Leon is great.
The debut of Natalie Portman as Matilhda is wonderful.
Gary Oldman as Stansfield (one of so many villain roles) is unbelievable.
The song at the end, Shape of My Heart by Sting is a great movie song.
I definitely recommend La Femme Nikita (1990) or it's remake,
Point of No Return (1993).
Also from Besson, Lucy & 3 Days to Kill (2014) and ANNA (2019).
The acting in this movie is Oscar level!! This movie is so good!!!
Watching again. Never get tired. Action. Drama. ❤
I knew she'd be a star from this role. I can count on one hand the number of child actors or actresses that don't suck.
My personal favourite scene / performance by Gary Oldman. Starts with "I like these calm little moments before the storm..." and ends with "He said, go back inside." UHHH...
I remember my father bringing this movie to my attention. I told him I wasn't interested, and he insisted I watch it. He was right. This is a really good movie.
He is the little cleaning compulsive shrimp in Finding Nemo.
This is my Favorite movie and Jean Reno is my favorite French actor and in my to 10 actors of all time
I like to think that one day Matilda went to Tony and asked for her money. I don't think she'd have a problem taking Tony out if he didn't give her the money.
But that's not the path she took. The school accepted her and she planted roots, so the idea is that she will be okay (i.e., not a hitman or forever doomed by violence and the cycle).
Always wanted a sequel. Matilda the professional.
Glad to see you checking this one out. I did this on my channel not too long back. Such a great movie!
Mr. V You are the best! Laughed so hard with you over this great movie! You did wear the perfect hat for this.
"EVERYONE!!!!!!" 😮
If no one pointed this out yet, Matilda is Luke Skywalker’s mom.
Her name was Padmé Amidala
31:26 what Stansfield the dea agent takes is Librium its a sedative and a hypnotic
Stellar movie! Throwin out two of my fave action flicks, Reservoir Dogs and The original PREDATOR. Thank you and keep up the great work.
I have seen this at least ten times and even watching the cut up version in your reaction made me cry. I'm glad you got to experience it firsthand.
Before LEON The Professional, Luc Besson directed NIKITA (1990) which gives an idea of what Mathilda would have become if she had Gone Wrong. A forgotten Gem.💎

SUCH a great movie, start to finish!
So many great performances
These actors were awesome. NATALIE PORTMAN had some great movie roles. 👍♥️.
PLEASE watch THE LONG KISS GOOD NIGHT, GEENA Davis and Samuel L. Jackson, Banger👍♥️
😂😂😂 "That ain't no adderall" 😅😅😅
(For the record Mr. V it's Librium)
"how did I get into this movie?" ..... "DEA?" he's wearing a DEA hat doing the reaction lol freaking love it
Natalie's first acting roll and Gary was legendary in this
i just realised Leon from the resident evil franchise has a gun named Matilda and the character Matilda looks very similar to Ada Wong and beating resident evil 4 on normal mode unlocks the ability to play on professional difficulty
You got your braces off! Aww, look at your beautiful teeth!!! It's almost impossible to keep from running your tongue over them, isn't it? Such a cool feeling. You look so handsome, Leo!
"EVVVVEEERRRYYYYYONE!!!"
Great reaction to a great movie.
..where did you get the extra scenes version?, seriously changes perspectives from the original release.
...Natale Portman ❤ great in every movie she's ever been in.
This is one of my favourite films
Shout out to anyone else who wrote down in their second grade journal they wanted to be a "Cleaner" when they grew up : D
Yesssss when I saw this video pop up I cheered aloud and dropped everything to watch. I know you heard us in the comments about this one! Thank you for that!
Man an OG classic. ❤
Leo! I'm glad to see you were able to finish with the braces. I know you've got to be happy to be rid of them. The teeth look amazing sir! Love ya man!
Call me weird but I kinda missed my braces after they got removed. However, when i finally got them off after 5 years (supposed to be 2) i loved the feeling of touching my front teeth with my tongue.
How many people enjoyed this reaction?
"Everyone!!!"
Fantastic, we used to rent this all of the time. When I was young I said I wanted to be a hit man and my family thought I was nuts 😂
This is a really good movie. Looking forward to the reaction!
I’ve always loved this movie, it’s always been underrated in my opinion. I think it’s a remake of the same theme of a movie from the 70’s with Gena Rowland in Gloria. Another great movie.
You never disappoint! Rock on brother!
I saw 👀 his movie back in the day go movie. 🎬
Great reaction! Thank you!🎉
Leo, your the goat! Everyone needs to sign up for Patreon. They get the full experience for less than a ticket to the movies.
Oh snap! Leo got the braces off!! Nice teeth bro
This movie is rated very highly for obvious reasons. Still love the sentiment!
People like you/who think like you need serious help
Rated highly by EVERYONE!!!!
Finally got the braces off my guy! Looking good bro
This is a movie I used to enjoy when I was young. Then I found out in the original script, there were scenes where the relationship turned physical. The writer/director Luc Besson is a real wrongun, he dated a 15 year old when he was 32. Took the shine off it for me.
I'm hoping you're wrong before looking it up. Not calling u wrong, just hoping.
When she beds him, she bedded him. Sorry.
@@clevelandcbi I don't blame you. There are quite a few movies of his I enjoyed. I can sort of forget about it when I watch Fifth Element which I still like but not this one. It can be difficult separating the art from the artist sometimes. He's kind of lost his touch anyway, Lucy was absolutely terrible.
@@clevelandcbiOh, the dating the 15 year old isn't even the worst part. That would be meeting her at 12, dating her at 15, getting her pregnant and marrying her at 16.
He was found not guilty of rape allegations in 2018 because it couldn't be proven. At least 4 women have accused him of sexual harrasment. Reading up on his history, if I were a beautiful young actress, I would stay clear of his casting calls.
I loved his films when I was younger, but his history paints a picture for me that's pretty hard to ignore.
Same here.
I can’t say I love this movie without putting filters on it.
Besson had some issues that he was too comfortable with. Idk if it’s a France thing, I heard it’s only frowned upon for a guy in his 30’s to have a relationship with someone younger than 18 over there.
Great reaction like always my man you funny as hell to me this maybe the most underrated movie of the 90s its so damn good.
Gary Oldman is terrifying and brilliant in this film. One of his best performances.
Have you seen the meme: *Imagine one day you're at work or out for a drink or doing the shopping and someone shouts "CUT" and it turns out you were Gary Oldman all along. That's how good an actor he is.* ? 😆
@@angelagraves865 Terrifying
Love this movie and am so glad to see you enjoy it, Leo. 🙂❤
Like your hat🤣🤣🤣🤣great reaction as always Leo👏👏👏👍👍
Hell yea were watching the classic bangers again 🗣️💯
yeeeoooo that smile lookin good dude! I was wondering when the day would come. G af. Cheers.
This movie is a Masterpiece.. 🤘🏻
Yesssssssssss!!!!!!!! One of my all time fav!!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭
They moved to another apartment in the middle of the story so the old lady was living far away. In the original cut, they cut out even more of the two's chemistry. People objected to the french writers view on a girl(who happens to be old enough to have a child) with the older Leon.Portman probably got her period, earlier, by 11, exposed to hollywood early.so she was already 13 with this chemistry with Leon. To Leon it was the love for he new daughter, adopted. For her, it was the other way around.
24:16 “The D.E.A” as your wearing a “D.E.A” hat👌🏽😎 lol
Kinda picked the wrong day to wear the DEA hat dude. 😉
'EveryyyyyyyyyyooooooooooOOOOOOONEEEEEEE!!!' 😄
Love this movie, have watched this so many times❤❤
Clicked on this so fast! Such a great film. Gary Oldman is my favorite actor. He steals every scene in this movie. Can't believe this is Natalie Portman's first film. Knew you'd love it! ❤
It's not underrated. It is highly rated and beloved.
She is 12, Bro.
Your smile looks so nice😊 I can’t wait to get mine off!
Thank you for watching this movie! It's a Classic!
one of my all time favourite movies
You get a like just for watching this one. Love you buddy.
Next, John Wayne in The Cowboys!!
Eyyyyy! No more braces!! 👏👏
One of the best movies ever!
Nice touch with the DEA hat!
