Been carrying my VP9 with a Vedder IWB holster for a bit. Sold my Glock 19 which I carried for years. Also sold my S&W Shield Plus Performance Center. I had way too many 9mm polymer pistols. LOVE the VP9 as its ergonomics are outstanding. Well worth the price.💯

Every review that I have watched the person always says the same thing, " This gun was made to fit my hand" This is the primary reason why I love this gun. Because the feel is so natural that it actually improves your target acquisition and your accuracy to a whole new level! I have so much confidence in this gun compared to any other gun i've shot.
I just picked up my VP9 today and have spent this rainy Saturday practicing my grip and dry firing my new piece. I started feeling a tender place coming up on the palm of my shooting hand. Replaced the back strap with the smaller one and problem solved! So adaptable.
Bought one in 2019. I've shot plenty of Glocks as i had worked in a gun shop and gun range years ago. The HK is heads above Glock in ergonomics, mag release design, left, right, and back-strap sizes, and one if th3 best triggers. I bought about 10 mags tonadd to the 2 from the factory. It's a perfect 9mm, polymer, striker fired pistol. Love it.
Ive used glocks and hks for decades now. It wasnt until I got into stressful shooting and law enforcement that I realized just how much better virtually every HK is and how much of a benefit that paddle mag release is. I cant count how high enough to get to the number of officers that inadvertently drop button mag releases during training and qualifications much less actual shooting. Go watch a bunch of police activity shootings and cringe to yourself when you see how many officers dump loaded mags by accident. This is a real quantitative thing, its not theory. Especially if you start messing with extended this snd extended thats. A stock HK has no equal for duty use
When I tried the VP9, I tried other handguns the same day. I went out to the salesperson and he asked me which one I preferred. I immediately told him the German gun shot the best. I told him that it was the most expensive of all. He replied: "Well, when you drive a car, do you want to drive a Chrysler or a Mercedes?" The VP9 is the Mercedes Benz of guns... :)
I found base model VP 9 for only $ 599. ( on sell at big box store) last year! So glad I did. Awesome grip and trigger, makes for a very accurate shooting!
I got mine when they first hit my gun store. I handled every general purpose pistol the store had , which was many. 1 by 1 i pointed the pistols at a target, THEN i checked the sight alignment of where the guns were pointed. All glocks where pointed above the target due to grip angle. The vp9 sights aligned almost perfectly to where i naturally point the pistol. THAT is what sold me on it. What this means for me is, inside 25 yards, i do not even need the sights to stay center mass. I can keep an 8 inch group at 25 yards without even aiming. If i do aim, that grouping drops to about 2 inches. To me, this is what a pistol should do. I believe i shoot it so well becuase i have to make no adjustments to my grip or stance to align to a target. So even under intense pressure or stress, the bullets will go where i want them to.. Under 25 yards i have almost zero chance of missing no matter the sutuation unless im forced into an awkward shooting postion. I dont even shoot high end gaming guns this well. This was a huge learning experience and i suggest everyone check their natural pointing vs actual site alignment. I have no doubt i could overcome a glocks tendency to point up in my hands with training, but i dont feel like we should have to. Find the gun thats right in YOUR hands and as long as its decent, i believe you will be more accurate and enjoy shooting it much more.
I’m glad to see somebody else that understands natural point of aim. That’s the total key. I’ve done this for years as I learned from an old Vietnam veteran sniper when I was in the police academy in the 80s. Some people don’t even have a natural point of aim. Those that do, once learned, it will dictate what weapon is best for you. I do the same thing with a new or different firearm that I handle…. Pick a point, present weapon to target then check sites. The Glock has always pointed high for me as well. When I get one that is leveled out and aligned, you automatically know you can work with it. My line up… Colt 1911, Sig P250, Sig P225, Sig P220, SW915, Walther P99, Stoeger STR9c, Walther Creed and Glock 42. They all were spot on when I first handled them, including the Glock 42, and I think for the Glock, only because of its smaller frame. Of course all my revolvers are usually spot on as well. Knowing this actually helps thinning down your choices when faced with the decision process of what to buy. Be safe out there!!!!
The paddle doesn't require a lot of retraining, just the right technique. What I do is shift the pistol in my hand, just like I would with a button release, and depress both paddles at once with my thumb and middle finger. This is a motion that is nearly identical to the button release, and I have no problems going back and forth between my personally owned paddle-release HK and my button-release issued work gun.
You are not wrong! I carried a Glock for 23 years during my law enforcement career and I was a "it's crap unless it's a Glock" guy LOL. I can say with confidence that after shooting a Glock on the range all those years, I bought a VP9 3 years ago and it has been the best handgun I've ever owned. Trigger, grip, accuracy, it's all there in one package. It makes your realize how uncomfortable and non-ergonomic a Glock is. I love my 1911s also, but this is my go to for protection and reliability. And my accuracy went up with this gun! Get one, you won't regret it!!
Paddle master race! I have had my vp9 for 7 years and I absolutely love it. I did change sights for a set of night fision sights and have replaced my mag guys with oem 17rd kits. Imo on release the mag capacity was the real issue. I do want to get a OR model but I’m still not fully sold on pistol red dots.
I bought this gun because I shoot it better than every polymer gun except the PDP. Love it. Most comfortable polymer gun to shoot. The wings work too. I am glad I got the paddle release. Now that I’m used to it, I prefer it. I can use my thumb or trigger finger. Totally reliable no failures yet and I definitely have in the neighborhood of 2k rounds. Got the night sights. No downsides. Needs nothing out of the box unlike a Block which feels crappier and needs replacement sights and a trigger upgrade unless you got the MOS. But the Hk still will feel better. It shoots lights out for me.
Thanks for watching! Yes, they have come down in price significantly and they are practically giving away magazines. My local shop was giving $100 HK gift cards with purchase of a VP9.
HK ergonomics are some of the very best. I really like shooting my VP9, VP9SK and P30SK (LEM). But there is just something about carrying a fully cocked pistol with no safety, so my 2 VP9 pistols are relegated to range time only. (I know, I know - keep your finger off the trigger and fully cocked with no safety is just fine. So, carrying a fully cocked revolver should also be just as fine.)
Thanks for watching! It depends on how you define “safety”. No manual safety, sure. But like Glock and others, there are internal safety mechanisms (passive safeties). So I wouldn’t say there is “no safety”. It’s a very different thing from a cocked revolver, and much safer. Also, mechanical things can (and will) fail, including mechanical (thumb) safeties.
I've had my VP9 for 6 years now, with just over 3K rounds through it. Love it! I guess must have gotten mine at the right time, I scored mine for $475 out the door from my local Field & Stream store. I guess the prices have gone up? The VP9 was never meant to be a pricey gun, it was supposed to always be sub-600 dollars. 🤷♂️ The only thing I added was a Streamlight TLR-7 and a Black Rhino IWB holster and I'm good to go.
I have Sigs and Glocks and S&W . I find the VP 9 softer shooting and it points much quicker and I get on target faster . All that plus I can make it fit my hand like it was made for me .
Great review! As I read through the comments its funny as most people have had similar experiences being introduced to this gun. I first got to fire a VP9 when a friend of mine brought it to the range several years ago. A few of us were trying out some Glocks, Sigs, Taurus, just to name a few and were having a blast. So my buddy is like hey shoot this VP9. I tried the VP9 and was instantly amazed! The feel of this gun was like no other. They are pricey and so I saved my money and by the time I could afford it the new Optics ready model came out that you have in this video. This is the only handgun I need.
Just got my first HK..P30, and I’m definitely getting the SK. Out the door price (tax and shipping fee to FFL) was $789. I got the LE model so it came with NS and three 17 rd mags. Thats a good price considering I dont have to change or upgrade anything.
you can usually find a lightly used vp9sk for less than $700 these days. I saw one go for $600 recently. I got the optics ready version w/ pre-installed suppressor height tritium sights and two 15 round mags almost brand new for $800. Not much more than a Glock, and you don't have to modify anything like the trigger or grip. Pairs perfectly with the trijicon rmrCC or Holosun 507k. It'w significantly better than a stock glock in pretty much every way. That being said, for full sized carry during the winter I think I'm still going to go with a tricked out G20. I still love big ass glocks once you modify them.
Love my VP9s, love my other guns as well but that are all over the spectrum, but definitely my favorite is my VP9 match. Put a red dot on it and I'm hitting accurately further out than I ever have in my life being fairly consistent shooting outdoors at 50 yards on orange clay pigeons. I am not a world class shooter, not by a long shot but with the ability to customize the grip not just on the back but on the sides the gun is amazing for an average enthusiast like me. The trigger gets lighter and even smoother the more I use it. There are so many great options that it's worth ignoring a few hundred bucks getting exactly what you want. Like I said I have other pistols from tons of brands that I also like a lot but don't rule out a VP9, at least take a serious look one of the variations before you buy.
My gun shop (tip of the hat to Gunny's Gun Shop in Maryville, Tennessee) says my VP9 should arrive this week. Everything has been shut down by a major snow event and days of temps in the low teens. But maybe the carriers will brave the elements and get me my new firearm! It's my first.
My first pistol, walked into the gun store felt just about every 9mm on the wall and nothing felt as good as the vp9. I got the b without the sight attachment.. not a fan of red dots
Oooo, good thing im getting my VP9 for $600 in a few weeks. Lucked out for sure. Love pistols! M9A3, G23, DEagle, Kimber Micro 9, VP9 (soon), next gun is going to probably be a Python and then a FN 509 or go for broke and get a 2011.
In my opinion there's only one self defense-oriented striker handgun that tops the VP9 out of box, and that's the Walther PDP. However, the PDP came out nearly 7 yrs after. The high price point is partly due to pandemic price gouging. Prior to that, they were about $600-650. I picked mine up for $650 OR version. As you mentioned, theres a lot of HK snobs. Ironically, they consider the VP9 the "poor" option in the HK community. If you didn't have a USP or a Mk23 then you are second rate.
I own both. Vp9 is still on top. Pdp is nice but my vp9 is preferred. My usp is a expert .45. I wouldn't put pdp or vp9 in its class.... it's to big to carry and it's a .45.
This is VERY true, but as an admirer of HK firearms, I’ve owned all the USP full size and compacts in all calibers and although they are my favorite, I got rid of them all for various reasons and now own 2 VP9’s. One for range use and one for carry, completely identical so I can remain proficient with the “platform” for lack of a better word.
@@AffordableArmory The Walther PDP Pro for $820 is king in the out of the box pistol market...I love H&K pistols...They are great but Walther's triggers are just buttery smooth and reset is excellent. Ergos on the PDP are better also in my opinion.
None of the major gun brands are objectively better. It is pure preference just like if you ask people for ram or Chevy. Everybody has a preference in their own damn good these days and can and will do anything you need them to. It’s purely preference. I prefer HK but I would be perfectly comfortable carrying a Glock or SIG and not feel like I had something I couldn’t trust. They are all so good today. try all of them now go with what you naturally shoot best and feel comfortable with and go with it. You can’t go wrong these days. Just don’t start with an HKP 30 or VP9 or HK45 because everything else will feel like a brick in your hands afterwards.😂
Thanks for watching! I have heard a lot of bad things about the CZ P10 series from people I trust. People who run classes and have seen them fail or break repeatedly. Conversely, I know several instructors and friends who put several thousand rounds through their guns every year who carry the VP9.
I sold my VP9 when the Glock G45 (9mm) was released. I love the G45 but I do sometimes find myself missing the VP9 🥹 I’m sure I’ll fold and repurchase a VP9 if I come across one at a good price 😅 I’ve been spoiled by Glock Blue Label prices 😅
i love mine but the only drawback is if you are a high volume shooter you like to completely strip your pistols for deep cleaning. this gun is a nightmare to do. otherwise an excellent pistol.
I use One Shot Triger Spray and spray the the entire assembly. I follow with air compressor. Removing and cleaning the firing pin channel is very easy. I have had my VP9 for 6 years...no problem!
i used to use a sonic cleaner which worked out well. not as good as complete takedown though. i am a high volume shooter and my pistols need occasional deep cleaning. my VP9 is the most difficult of all my collection to strip completely down.
Thanks for watching! I am planning a followup video due to the popularity of this video and the fact that I’ve had some issues with the gun. Overall, it’s a great gun, but it’s not perfect. Stay tuned!
Just joined team HK (vp9 SK OR) after months of reading about it and watching videos. The second I held it at the shop I was like god damn I knew that was gonna feel so good in my hands lol. got a green dot Holosun SCS with it. Until further notice, it’s the last concealed carry pistol I’ll ever need lol
@@FREEDOMGUNNER I brought out a bunch of my guns to shoot some steel gongs the first time I shot my VP9. I hit more steel with the VP9 the first time I ever shot it than I did with any other pistol/rifle I brought with me that I had owned for years. Best feeling gun I have now lol
I don’t ever see VP9’s priced that high. I’m curious if his 900-1k price range is at a local dealer which I would say is still high. However OR VP9’s can be found online for sub $600. GB has a grey/OR “buy it now”for $529.
Thanks for watching! A few things. First, prices fluctuate. And currently, HKs are dropping in price. Second, prices given are final cost, not “I found it on sale at Johnny’s gun shop dot com that one time and so that’s the price.” Lastly, I don’t factor in online prices because after shipping, taxes, and transfer fees, it usually ends up being around the same cost (sometimes more) as it is in the store. Go support your local business!
Personally, the only other two mass manufactured striker fire guns that have better trigger than the VP9, is Canik and Walther. With that being said, the VP9 is a better gun than its Glock or SiG counterparts, and not just in the trigger department.
You should show the trigger pull from the other side of the gun so your whole finger doesn’t cover up what you’re trying to show us. Thanks for the review!
Is this the law enforcement version? This is the one im looking for but unfortunately have to get 10 round mags cause WA sucks now. (However we should have a ruling on an injunction here in a couple weeks)
After looking extensively at the VP9 it’s a big meh for me. In fairness, so are Glocks (I have 3 of them). I’m sure it’s a good gun but there are better guns available at a lower price point (Walther PDP and Springfield Echelon). For the money you spend on a VP9 you can buy a Walther with a better grip and trigger, more magazine capacity, an optic, a Streamlight, and a couple extra magazines. It’s a no brainer for me.
Thanks for watching! With a proper holster and belt, and appropriate cover garment, yes, you can conceal this gun. In fact, I have appendix carried this gun without any issues.
don't have a shooting video going on at the corner while you talk...it is very distracting.. The VP9 is one of the best out there. Got mine from Grab a Gun for $485. What a steal. I use the small back strap and medium side panels.
I had a USP, catastrophic failure Failed to battery, and the hammer fell igniting the primer, thus splitting the frame HK rep asked if I dropped it Stick with all metal. Not worth the risk
@George Versluis your experience is probably unique. H&K pistols are some of the toughest and most reliable on the planet. I've heard of lots of other guns self destructing but this is a first for hearing an H&K doing that.
@@Lexicologist1971 I can tell you it's not, and that's why I post. Plastic guns fail at a much higher rate than metal. I truly believe that there is a move towards disposable guns
I think they are stop making regular vp9 with no OR model. All HK will have OR upper. I bought one more VP9 with night sight. I have no reason for OR model.
Yes, H&Ks are better than both. I've broken Sigs and worn parts out on them. I've barely had to replace recoil springs on my H&K guns. They're just better pieces of equipment.
thx Paul cuz I was really wondering about Sig quality n he didn't go to in depth n having watched this video n heard from you my choice is now solid hk all the way

This gun use to carry 15 now same mag that they added 2 rounds dope gun and if i wasnt so into glocks id pick one up and a m&p there looking good to with glock though i make mine so bad ass with gas pedals and aftermarket is wild from comp set ups . Also like 40 dollar difference between glock mos models lol and if you are going to buy one dont try and look up glock vs torture test yes there awsom but to say there better than a 2.0 s&w or glock mos is like saying wilson combat is better than atlas or nighthawk customs im just saying when there that good and have a track record of being such great guns you just cant go wrong with any of them . Whats more important is what you are trying to use it for .
Ouch in the price you had to pay… I love my VP9s they just work for me. Love everything about the VP9, but the magazines do take their toll on the wallet…
@AffordableArmory I have a VP70Z bequeathed to me. I want to get a P30, but the price of H&K in South Africa is just bonkers because H&K doesn't import here anymore. The cost of one would be equivalent to a good average monthly salary here (for comparison). But that won't stop me. When I get enough pennies and my dedicated shooters license, I'll get another one (we need a competency and license to possess a firearm and dedicated shooters license for multiple weapons of the same type (bolt action rifles, pistols, shotgus and semi auto rifles)). I'm a long-time fan of H&K
Thanks for watching! I get it. I hesitated for a long time for that reason. My Glocks and Sig Sauers have served me well enough. For that matter, I’ve got a few Taurus pistols that have been nothing but reliable and handle the job well. So yeah, I get it.
Glad you got the new gun you wanted. Those are the best and they are proud of that. Red dots are good for average shooters who never will learn to shoot well on their own without one. These videos of people shooting a gun stating the obvious is just too much. Anyone who cannot shoot a single large hole dead center in a paper target at 7 yards. Really should keep practicing before thinking it is OK to use the word good or the words pretty good while publicly referencing how they did at the range.😂 Have a nice day.
This would be a better video if you separated the shooting from when your speaking. It’s very hard to hear you with the shooting in the background. Just trying to be helpful.
Walther and HK have always been about the same for me, going back to the PPQ. They were very similar guns with outstanding triggers and industry-leading ergonomics. The PDP has a completely different feel to it though, and it’s neither good nor bad. Just different.
I don't even have to watch the video to say yes. But I watched anyway.

Thanks for watching! $475 would be a steal for this gun.
I've owned sig and glockenspiel. I bought mine for 400.00 nearly new. I wouldn't get rid of mine for nothing. Love it.
Thanks for watching!
I have Sigs and Glocks and S&W . I find the VP 9 softer shooting and it points much quicker and I get on target faster . All that plus I can make it fit my hand like it was made for me .
Thanks for watching! It does fit the hand well.
Thanks for watching!
Just got my first HK..P30, and I’m definitely getting the SK. Out the door price (tax and shipping fee to FFL) was $789. I got the LE model so it came with NS and three 17 rd mags. Thats a good price considering I dont have to change or upgrade anything.
Thanks for watching! Not bad at all.
you can usually find a lightly used vp9sk for less than $700 these days.
Thanks for watching!
2:24 all HK’s used to come with the first spent casing from the test firing at the factory. Not sure why they stopped.
Thanks for watching! Lots of gun companies did that. I haven’t seen it in a while. I agree, they should bring that back.
That side tuck is my favorite kydex holster. Use it for my VP9 tactical.
@@nahtay72 Thanks for watching! I’m glad you like it.
Looks like you got the LE/OR version. I have the same one but urban grey frame. Absolutely love it! If you like this gun you will love the Walther PDP
Thanks for watching! Yes, it is the LE version. And I do like the PDP.
Switched from an M&P to a VP9L and I like it a lot. So much so that I’ve been going to the range about twice as much.
Thanks for watching! That’s awesome. Glad you like it.
Just ordered a fde optic ready vp9 that I’ll be able to get tomorrow from my FFL dealer. Got a major steal on it
Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoy it.
Thanks for watching! I do like the Match.
love mine, got it 423 brand new, so happy with it.
Thanks for watching!
@@AffordableArmory no doubt great stuff
My gun shop (tip of the hat to Gunny's Gun Shop in Maryville, Tennessee) says my VP9 should arrive this week. Everything has been shut down by a major snow event and days of temps in the low teens. But maybe the carriers will brave the elements and get me my new firearm! It's my first.
Thanks for watching! Awesome. Glad to hear it. I’m not too far from there in Sumner County. Definitely glad the snow and cold are gone.

My first pistol, walked into the gun store felt just about every 9mm on the wall and nothing felt as good as the vp9. I got the b without the sight attachment.. not a fan of red dots
Thanks for watching!
Just bought a VP9L and getting a VP9 match next month for my BDay
Thanks for watching! Awesome! I like both of those guns.
Thanks for watching! They have come down in price recently. But $600 is definitely a great deal.
Love my VP9. Put that 508t on it with tlr 7A and just ordered holster from JMCK can’t wait.
Thanks for watching! Sounds like a good setup.
Thanks for watching! The PDP is definitely a great gun, and its predecessor the PPQ rivaled the VP9, in my opinion.
I own both. Vp9 is still on top. Pdp is nice but my vp9 is preferred. My usp is a expert .45. I wouldn't put pdp or vp9 in its class.... it's to big to carry and it's a .45.
Keep coping. USP is best pistol ever made.
What is your thought on CZP10c compare with HkPV 9 ?
@@nerdyhustle Thanks for watching! Both are great guns.
i love mine but the only drawback is if you are a high volume shooter you like to completely strip your pistols for deep cleaning. this gun is a nightmare to do. otherwise an excellent pistol.
Thanks for watching!
I use One Shot Triger Spray and spray the the entire assembly. I follow with air compressor. Removing and cleaning the firing pin channel is very easy. I have had my VP9 for 6 years...no problem!
@@mnrodriguez i am talking about complete disassembly sir.
i used to use a sonic cleaner which worked out well. not as good as complete takedown though. i am a high volume shooter and my pistols need occasional deep cleaning. my VP9 is the most difficult of all my collection to strip completely down.
@@mytquin7605, I never do that! That spray leaves it very clean.
I am a very skinny guy and shot one of these but never carried it, 9 months later is it a gun that is comfortable to carry?
Thanks for watching! I don’t carry this gun anymore, but I had no issues with the size if that’s what you mean.
You were lucky. My VP9 only came with 2 /17 round mags but I bought 3 more on line so I am good to go now.👍
Thanks for watching! Yeah, they normally only come with 2 mags. Mine might be an LE version and that’s why it came with 3. But I’m not 100% on that.
I have the VP9 tactical With the threaded barrel and I love it!!!

I like the VP9 so much I just picked another one up. This one has the optic cut and the button mag release..
Thanks for watching! That’s my preferred setup as well.
How are you liking that VP9? I'm thinking of buying the MOS version, or either the Walther PDP.
Thanks for watching! I am planning a followup video due to the popularity of this video and the fact that I’ve had some issues with the gun. Overall, it’s a great gun, but it’s not perfect. Stay tuned!
@@AffordableArmory - Thanks I'm very interested in watching the video
Didn’t see your updated video on the VP9 that you mentioned you’re doing because you had some problems? What was the issue?
Thanks for watching! I haven’t done it yet, but I’ve had several malfunctions with it. More than normal, at least.
The VP9 is my new duty weapon after trading my P30 in for it.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching! They do feel like they were made for your hand, don’t they?
Exactly what I have! I also have the Holosun SCS green dot! I shot four inch round steel plates at 50 yards and 💯 yards with ease accuracy!
The one thing I noticed is the empty shells fly back at you. Couldn't that hit your optic?
Thanks for watching! It is possible that the shells may hit the optic, although I haven’t experienced it.
Thanks for watching!
I totally agree!!
You should show the trigger pull from the other side of the gun so your whole finger doesn’t cover up what you’re trying to show us. Thanks for the review!

If you can get all of that for the price of a VP9, you’re doing alright.
with it's size can you still conceal well at 4:00? thanks
Thanks for watching! With a proper holster and belt, and appropriate cover garment, yes, you can conceal this gun. In fact, I have appendix carried this gun without any issues.
