Hey everyone! This may be unexpected but this movie has to be one of my favourite Arnold movies. It hit me emotionally in the most unexpected places and I have been thinking about this movie a lot after watching it. Yes... I know it's Kindergarten Cop... but I loved it.
Your reaction to this film is a reminder that we do not need to watch a cinematic masterpiece to strongly connect to a film. There can be films with noticeable flaws but have aspects or scenes that we strongly connect to nonetheless, and we might not have any explanation for it. When that happens, the flaws are still there, but they seem to matter very little. Others might not like the films that we connect to, and they may even have their reasons, but in the end, I doubt that matters.
The phrase "IT'S NOT A TUMOR!!!" in Arnold's voice and Arnold's frustration randomly pops up in my head sometimes and I can't help but to laugh at it lol
All the names you had for Chris Kimble was HILARIOUS....LOL!!
Of all his movies, Arnold said that ‘Kindergarten Cop’ is his favorite.
"Not so tough without your car, ain't'cha?"
The principal is Linda Hunt, a wonderful, marvelous actor who came to real attention playing a boy in "The Year of Living Dangerously". Often portraying a person of great moral and emotional strength, under-estimated because of her appearance, she has a lovely line of dialogue in the movie "Silverado" after demonstrating the thought:
Loved your reaction. I really enjoy Arnie in these wholesome films. I'd recommend "Junior" or "Twins" as well. And you are so right, HEART is the reason why I had the best childhood. Pretty much all the films growing up had heart even if the story wasn't oscar worthy. PS: if you liked the little girl in this, then you should check out "Beethoven" (1992). Another great film with a lot of heart :)
I rate movies based on what I would change. I wouldn’t change anything about Kindergarten Cop. It’s not supposed to be Oscar caliber. It’s perfectly fine that it’s predictable.
That was a really nice and sweet story about your experience with kids. And you’re right, part of what art does is to connect with us on a personal level.
Oh man, great reaction. Sometimes nothing hits us harder than a cheesy 90s comedy. Like you said, the heart is there. Also loved all your other names for Crisp, you were cracking me up :D
We used to recite the Pledge of Allegiance every morning at school but I graduated from high school in 1979 so that was a long time ago.
You might be interested to know that the entire cast was in love with Richard Tyson (Crisp). The women and the kids ALL loved him - and said he was such a sweetheart off set. Always making sure the kids were comfortable around him. He said it was hard for him to get back into character.
I was 10-11 and at the height of my Arnold worship when this came out. Saw it on VHS and it hit the right notes. Watching it when older, I was surprised to be emotionally tugged on it too.
Thanks, Oliver! 🐣 I can't tell ya how often I hear the words, "It's not a tumor!" (in Mr. Schwarzenegger's voice) echoing through my brain. ❧ The performer who played 'Miss Schlowski' is Linda Hunt. I
I read that they got like 7 different ferrets, each trained for a specific action, depending on what they need him to perform in the movie.
This is absolutely my favorite Arnold movie. Saw it in theaters back in the day. I love T2, T1 and Conan, but this is one of the films that also inspired me to teach. Directed by the guy who did ghostbusters. Music by the guy who did Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. Im glad you shared your experience with us.
Linda Hunt, who played the principal, is an Academy Award-winning actress. I thought she was great in this. She demonstrates that an excellent actor/actress can make a memorable character out of a small part.
This movie, when it came out was a departure for Arnold. It was his first comedy and it became a huge hit, making $202 million worldwide against a productive budget of $15 million. It was a slam dunk, a crowd pleaser. So, it's no surprise that you enjoyed it. It was directed by legendary comedy director, Ivan Reitman. So, forget about Rotten Tomatoes. Some of those scores are skewed.
I’m so happy you watched this. Ditto on the emotional, sweet parts of this movie. They really enhanced the kids’ adorableness. Thank you!
