Hey man, is there any way to pay in on your Patreon to request a single film? I imagine it would be more than just voting on a poll which makes sense, but there's a movie that I REALLY want you to watch
Now is time for"The Hunt (2012)", to see the other side.
The whole thing is WRONG and i don't even feel like i should explain why
Yo if you really like Dialogue, EXCEPTIONAL ACTING, Filming, Character Archs, "Showing with out telling" all that. REACT to Game of Thrones if you haven't already seen it.
Bob Nelson who played O'Hara fiance is a stand up comic. He had a great HBO special but really shined in his bit on HBO's 9th Annual Young Comedians Special hosted by Rodney Dangerfield Every Comedians was on fire in that. Highly recommended.
I always get a kick when you get caught up a d fan out instead of doing a filmmaker reaction. I think Ocean's 11 was the best for that because it started with a technical review. "I love this camera movement...Bernie Mac is in this!?!?"
Arnie giving that abusive dad a nice punch is one of his most satisfying moments
It’s equally satisfying the way that the principal lets him off with no punishment.
@@glenncabacungan9269 true
Right not overboard, but just one solid juicy punch to the gut.
@@glenncabacungan9269 If I was the principal and saw that happen knowing the kind of dad he was I'd give that substitute a raise lol
@@JakNasty69 same lol
Shoutout to all my fellow male kindergarten teachers! Been teaching kindergarten in Japan since 2012.
FACTS!! That’s so awesome man! Hopefully when I come to Japan we can meet!
@@JamesVSCinema sounds like a plan James!
Kindergarten teacher in South Korea here!
is it true that the first few years of school is more focused on manners and etiquette than math and stuff?
@@MrAgarza49 it depends on the school, I teach at an international school, and we focus on phonics and behavior, but most Japanese kindergartens really push the manners and such. I've never seen a group of Japanese kindergarteners going ape-sh*t... international school kids (mix of Japanese and other nationalities) though... that's a different story, haha.
Arnold is such an underrated actor. Sure, he never was a character actor. But he did know how to pick roles and play to his strengths. Many great movies that might never have become classics without Arnold
As Billy Burr would say, dude was in the zone for 40 years
When you see Schwarzenegger at the top of a movie cover you just know it’s gonna be good
100% agree this is my most favorite movie he's made, love this movie so much
I love Junior and I will stick with that to my dying day
Lack of character acting skill but made up for it with charisma and a powerful presence.
This is the "Who is your daddy and what does he do?" movie lol
Man I love 80s-90s Arnold 😂
My best friend from Middle School had a scare with her husband's health. When we found out it wasn't a tumor. We danced in the hotel lobby singing in our best Arnold accents.
Oh my god hahaha
@@JamesVSCinema oh the looks we got.
"Who is your daddy and what does he do?"
@@walkinglootchest1251wrong line ;p
I love that one of the biggest character growth moments was also subtle. After hitting the abusive father, Kimble *REALLY* wants to dish out more, but looks around and notices the community eyes on him. This stops him from laying the guy out. It's also a *HUGE* difference from the version of Kimble that was openly brandishing a gun in a hair salon earlier. And we get to see that transformation in just a few seconds of film.
Yup yup!!
It's still super satisfying when he hits him though.
@@davelewis8270 Without a doubt!
Schwarzenegger doing comedies and Jim Carrey doing dramas worked better than we could ever imagine! lmao
Comedians being great as drama has always made sense to me. Many of them either spent a life making people laugh because they relate far too well with how painful life is, and/or they're great at being poignant comedians because they're quite societally observant people. An actor is at their best when theyre observant enough of people that they can tap into the core of who their characters are.
@@chrisjfox8715 Thank you Leon for the reply, genuinely
They recently had a Kindergarten Cop reunion zoom interview with some of the kids from this movie. Arnold made a surprise drop in.
If you haven't already, you might react to "Last Action Hero". It's lots of fun.
Plus Tywin Lannister
A great send up of the movies that made Arnold famous, so many great lines and references.
Or his hit holiday classic......JINGLE ALL THE WAY!
Kudos to whoever gets that reference
I think this movie should be seen by anybody getting into film.
MASSIVELY UNDERRATED
I think this and True lies are my favorite Arnold films he was so good in comedies
True Lies is one of the greatest action comedies ever. Not sure how many times I have watched it, but I am sure I will watch it a lot more in my lifetime.
@@fraser-b3494 “you know those handcuffs you put me in? I picked them.“ I’m probably butchering that quote but great fucking scene.
"I'm the pahhty poopa."
I just commented the same thing before seeing yours. Lol. Glad someone else can appreciate the Arnold one liner at the beginning of the movie.
@@fubar1217 I still use it to this day haha
it's not tumah
When Arnold did twins no studio was willing to put him as the lead in a comedy and pay him his regular salary so he got the studio to give him no money up front and took a percentage of the box office and he made so much money the studios haven't done it since
The director did a great job of getting the kids to act.
Such a quotable movie! I find myself saying "its not a tumor!" so much 😂
That kid man haha
Me too! But it makes me sad most people nowadays don't get the reference😭
Do you work in a hospital or something?
@@HABO2210 no but whenever I hear someone say they've got a headache I find myself quietly saying "its not a tumor" lol
Personally, I like the “Not so tough without your car, are ya?” line.
"The ferret is the hero of this film"! Some of the lines that I hear in these reaction vids would make a Hollywood screenwriter proud😎
😭😭😭
'Are these all your lunches?' is one of my favorite Arnold lines of all time.
Sadly I've worked at a few places where we could have used Arnold to tell adults to stop eating their co-workers' lunches. 😆
I love this movie! A few things:
1. It’s filmed in Astoria, Oregon, a super cute small town on the Oregon coast. The Goonies was filmed there, same with Short Circuit and Free Willy! They have a small film museum in the real jailhouse that was used in the opening scene of The Goonies.
2. All the kids in my neighborhood would say “it’s not a tuma!!” after we saw this.
3. The actor who plays the villain, Richard Tyson, is said to be extremely friendly in real life (isn’t that how it always goes?). A few years before this, he played the bully in one of my most favorite dark comedies about high school, Three O’Clock High! You must see that movie.
Arnolds partners boyfriend, is a stand up comic named Bob Nelson. Watch his bit about the football all-stars...pretty funny
I went to Job Corps in Astoria (03-04), and they literally talked about this in the campus tour. Allegedly, some of the set pieces were still stored in one of the hangars.
Three O'Clock High was always on the movie channel growing up, and I'd watch it every single time.
And it seems like an affordable and great (other than it’s in the US…) place to live too based on how much that house last went for!
@@Cassxowary definitely not affordable to Oregonians. Maybe if you’re coming from CA or something.
Following the chat for "its not a tumor!!!" quotes
😭😭😭
I swear if this movie was written with Arnold in mind the writer is a genius if it wasnt then the casting director is a genius cause Arnold was absolutely perfect in this movie!
Yeah the casting was perfect!
@@JamesVSCinema this role included 3 demands from Arnold before he would agree to it. he wanted Ivan Reitman to direct, he wanted to promote physical education for kids and he wanted the script to touch on family abuse that children may suffer from. It certainly would have been a very different and a much worse movie without casting Arnold.
"It's not a tumah!"
This line has stuck with me forever.
The bad guy is portrayed by the underrated Richard Tyson, who plays the bully in a great but little-known high school movie called Three O'Clock High.
Also under-rated in Two Moon Junction (a totally different style of movie) IMO
@@blitzhos Ha! Sherilyn Fenn Forever
@@Jason-br5ow Except for Boxing Helena. That movie was a travesty for everyone involved.
@@captainsplifford Ha! Actually, Two Moon Junction is pretty awful as well. But: THREE OCLOCK HIGH
@@Jason-br5ow Dude, I have Three O'clock High on DVD. I was *obsessed* with it when I was younger!!
Yessssss, Arnold was PERFECT for this role. I can't imagine anyone else doing such a good job toeing that line between action with borderline suspense and campy comedic fun. Def one of his best movies. Loved it as a kid, loved it as a teenager, and loved it while rewatching with you now.
Arnold is a national treasure. He is literally the embodiment of the American dream.
He calls the day of his citizenship ceremony as the proudest moment of his life.
Arnold and Danny DeVito in "Twins" is another classic if you haven't seen it.
This movie has a special place in my heart. I don't care what people say, this movie is amazing and so good. Such a heart warming movie, my first ever DVD of my collection! You gotta love Arnie in this role!
I just looked it up, and I can't believe I didn't know for decades, that the director, Ivan Reitman, has directed so many other well known and successful/beloved movies! It explains how Arnie is so good in this, the guy knows how to direct his actors.
Ivan Reitman also directed GHOSTBUSTERS!
Fun fact: the teen getting busted making out (21:10) is his son AND it was his first kiss!
This movie is on the same wave as Scrubs.
It makes you lagh, and when the time to cry comes, it hits that much harder.
This movie will never be called a cinematic masterpiece, but I absolutely love this flick!!
Highly recommend "Last Action Hero" which is another one of Arnold's early movies and my favorite next to Terminator 2. It has a unique story especially for its period of time.
It's funny that you mentioned Edna from the Incredibles cause when I first saw that movie, I instantly thought of Linda Hunt. Lol
This movie is easily overlooked. The font and movie premise makes it seem like the film is just for kids and kinda stupid; but how they executed this movie is great.
Agreed!!
It was awesome seeing how much fun you had watching this movie. I’ve loved it forever because I watched it with my dad who loves comedy and action films, especially the 80s and 90s. I might have to invite him over so we can have a Kindergarten Cop dad daughter date. Thanks for sharing this.
Hey Stephanie anytime!
The best example of how to bring an action star into a comedy. While it still has the action parts, those parts were used for exposition and catharsis. It's more so an allegory of someone having to be put into an unfamiliar situation and adapting to circumstances: Not only was Kimball having to go from a gritty cop to lovable school teacher, but Arnold having to go from a tough action star to kinder comedic role.
And in the end, they freakin' nailed it! A classic movie that still holds up today and withstands the test of time.
I was just thinking about this movie the other day .. its a classic and really fun
Linda Hunt, who played the principal, won an academy award for her role in 'The Year of Living Dangerously.'
“DARE IS NO BAFRUUMM!!! >8•O”
when it came out i watched it on VHS. i was the key demographic back then. like 7 years old. and they mention arnolds austrian heritage what really spoke to me because i'm austrian too. absolutely loved it.
We all gotta take a break from the heavy films and just watch some fun movies.
Love that you reacted to this, it’s a classic
Arnold and Maria had just had their first baby while this movie was being filmed. So he credits these kids to giving him a crash course in parenthood.
Also, the school in Silent Hill is an exact copy of the school from this movie.
PUT THA COOKEE DOOOWWN! NAAAHHHWW!
Love the vids man, keep it up!
Hahaha thanks Bret!
My childhood right here.
edit: True Lies is an awesome Arnold / Cameron teamup action/comedy. It's do bad they never made a sequel to it because that's when he stepped away from the camera for politics and missed that window. Never the less that would be an amazing reaction vid.
Gotta give Jamie Lee Curtis some props for True Lies, too; even Arnold and Jim thought she deserved recognition for it^.^
This is the last film I expected to see you react to but I’m not complaining 😂
Filmed in Astoria, Oregon... same town as “The Goonies” and “Short Circuit”
My Army buddy from Dauphin Island, Alabama dated the real life niece of the bad guy Crisp (Richard Tyson) like 25 years ago. My buddy told me he met him at a family reunion and he asked if he was indeed the bad guy from Kindergarten Cop. To answer him, Richard Tyson grabbed him by the collar and said, “I AM your father, Dominic!” Lmfao
Respect to all teachers out there, honestly. I wish it was just a matter of teaching but I've personally experienced the darker side of the job as well.. witnessing all the problems people have at home, how it affects the kids, how some develop problems at such a young age..
It's a heavy emotional burden that teachers, daycare workers etc have to put up with.
Well this unearthed some memories I didn’t know I had,, I used to watch this all the time because it was basically the only film ever on
Happy to give some nostalgia!
Fun Fact: The school never had the mural on the wall in the playground before the movie, it was commisioned for the movie and every few years it is still updated and clearly visable even from the road.
My friend and I always quote "Who is your Daddy? And what does he do?" line all the time and it goes over so many people's heads.
Thank you to your family member for suggesting this movie. I loved this movie as a child and quote it constantly probably to the annoyance of friends and family.
At 21:11, that's a young Jason Reitman who went on to direct future Best Picture nominees like Juno and Up in the Air. He's also the son of Ivan Reitman who directed this movie.
You're right James, this is a good heartwarming movie full of surprises and great Arnold quotes. My favorite is "there is no bathroom!"
But was completed the comedy, besides the great story and script, was his partner O'hara (played by Pamela Reed) who was all kinds of awesome. She was so good that she appeared in an NBC sitcom, the Home Court (1995), where she played a tough judge. I absolutely adore her in Kindergarten Cop. She also appeared with Arnold in Junior, 1994 comedy (also directed by Reitman). These two actors had perfect chemistry.
I love Arnold, he has such a talent to turn his liabilities into assets as he puts it. So few people can make strengths out of their weaknesses and achieve (and perhaps surpass) their goals. I love how this comedy starts as a typical action movie and then shifts.
Sometimes we all just need to break from the apex films and watch a light hearted comedy. We're not film snobs, we watch everything.
“the Jerk”, “Kindergarden cop”, “what about bob”, .....so many simple fun movies
This came out right around when Arnold was put in charge of the Presidential Fitness program by George HW Bush. This is where he started to turn not only his movie career in a few direction but his public persona as well.
If you want an emotional film, you have to react to Rain Man. You'll love it, especially if you have a brother.
If you haven't seen the Alfred Hitchcock 1954 movie, "Rear Window" lately you might consider how he was able to develop an award winning film with a single set and a minimal cast. Jimmy Stewart, Grace Kelly and Aaron Burr do a wonderful job.
Loved that this pulled your heartstrings as much as Amelie. Multitudes... Great stuff.
Isn’t that awesome! Haha
They recently did a Zoom reunion with some of the kids and Arnold made a special surprise guest appearance. The "kids" (all grown now of course) still love and respect him and were so happy to see him. Some of these child actors are still in the business today, some acting but also some directing and producing.
Twins next. Arnie and Danny Devito... Great.
Yes please, its a classic
This is by far my favorite Arnold movie and is one of my all time favorite movies. I watched it soooo much in my childhood and I still love it to this day. Always great to see others enjoying it as well. Good reaction!
I guess these two coming up too! 😁
True Lies (1994)
Last Action Hero (1993)
🥰🤞🏻✌🏼
Bro you gotta watch " Last Action Hero " gotta be an all time classic from Arnold
Heartwarming with a side misogyny is Arnold’s whole career.
LMAOOOO
wdym
Oh I see now
100% a classic from my childhood. I will always love this movie
A beautiful example of Chekhov's Ferret. (If in the first act you show a ferret then in the third act it should go off... or something like that, I forget the specifics.)
The actor who played the villain, Richard Tyson, I haven’t seen him in anything for a long time, but back in the eighties he was great at playing creeps. He played the school bully in a movie called Three O’Clock High, about a kid who crosses him early on a school day, and he has to fight him when school is out. He was just good at LOOKING mean as hell.
This movie is a 10 out of 10!
This is an excellent movie for children. The creepiness of the villain and his mother had me on alert for dangerous strangers for sure.
Saw this in theaters as a 4 year old and loved it. "Taped it" the first time it aired on TV and watched the crap out of it... I remember a Tide commercial I had to fast forward through lol. I like that you go outside of the box with some of your selections. Hadn't seen a clip of this movie in YEARS. This took me back!
Yo! A classic! Glad to revisit this one as it's been a decade+ for me. My whole family for memories from us all laughing at it together. Probably my fav of Arnold's. Hearing ur real talk on how teachers need to be paid more was a very welcomed fresh perspective on the premise. Our educators are our heros! Not to be ignored!
One of those movies hard to market, since it's a crime drama and a kids film comedy wrapped in one. IMDB has it under Action, Crime and Comedy categories. I loved it. Had a crush on PAM in my younger days. She is lovely.
This is one of the few movies I can really remember scaring me when I was little.
Because all of a sudden at the end there's a fire at school and a stranger had snatched up one of the little boys.
It was like all the bad things they taught us to be afraid of in school all happening at once.
yo.... this right here.. god bless you James for this reaction! One of my favorites growing up ♥️♥️♥️
Anytime Brian! 🙏🏽
How did I miss this? I love this movie. Arnold was my favorite actor as a kid. All of his movies have a special place in my heart.
I feel where your young relative is coming from. I was a 12 or 13 year old girl when this was released and I saw it twice in the theater. It really hits the tween girl comedy sweet spot.
An often overlooked great line in this movie is when Crisp and his mother are arguing in the pharmacy about all the medicine she's buying and he says she shoved all of that down his throat and there was nothing wrong with him and she says "that's why there was nothing wrong" and then Crisp looks back at the pharmacist (but it is shown as thought he looks almost dead on into the camera) and says "now how do you argue with that?"
"So heart warming with a side of..... misogyny". I think that's the best tag line I've ever heard.
I think what makes a film like this work so well is it treats its themes and tonal shifts sincerely. It allows its comedy to be fun, it's family-friendly elements to be charming, and its drama to be very serious--the lighthearted aspects allow the drama to feel heavy, and its drama allows his lightheartedness to feel more believable. It helps that the film takes its time to slowly build its characters and plot up so we get a very realistic grounding on who these people are and the world they inhabit. It all feels real. Prime Arnold, from early 80s to mid 90s could basically do no wrong.
9:00: Kimble: “Ha ha ha ha. Quiet.”
Arnold’s comedy career starts now! lol
Low-key one of my favorite movies :D
"You hit the kid, I hit you" >:)
Schwarzenegger says this was one of his favorite movies to do :)
This video made me so happy. I needed that. Thank you James
Chekhov's Ferret. If you're going to have a ferret in the first act, then it needs to do something important by the end.
Great movie!
Great reaction!
Ivan Reitman has really made some great movies, movies that leave you with a smile on your face just feeling good.
Ghostbusters, Stripes, Twins, Kindergarten Cop.
I really recommend the movie Dave that Reitman did. I hardly ever see it talked about nowadays but it was a huge hit when it came out in 1993.
Amazing cast that knocks it out of the park, great story, heart of gold moments, just a really good movie!
Best Regards!
It was amazing to go on this emotional rollercoaster ride with you!
Thanks for another great reaction. I’m not surprised your 12 year old niece liked it. I was 11 when it came out and me and all my friends at the time loved it too.
Here's some random trivia for you. When making Silent Hill the video game, given that it was based in america, the developers possibly used american movies for referance to things as the school section of the game has designs and layouts pulled straight from Kindergaten Cop. You can find some cool comparison shots on google of the 2 side by side.
Kindergarten Cop is a classic. Add these Arnold comedies to your list; Twins and Junior.
and a couple of action comedies; Last Action Hero and True Lies
James
Those kids from the movie who are now adults did a zoom reunion I believed last year during the height of the Pandemic. They were talking about the making of Kindergarten Cop. They were surprised that Arnold went online with them. Arnold talked to each "kid". He even invited his "kids" to his place when Pandemic slows or stopped for a proper reunion.
I'm a fairly new subscriber and I've enjoyed your content immensely. This one just made me feel good too because I've always been a big movie buff and seeing people's reactions to something that gave me the same joy is great! And with how times are right now we need more laughs and smiles from everybody. Keep up all the great work brother
Thank you Derrick! This really brightened my day!
Are these your lunches? You eat other peoples linches? STAHP IT 🤣🤣🤣🤣 gets me every single time
Holy shit, my dude, I haven't seen this since I first watched it on I think a Betamax copy when I was 7 years old. Thanks for the cool memories and reaction!
Man, I saw this movie in theaters when I was like 14 :)) and I remember loving it.
Thanks for reminding me how good is it.
(Funny to think even this light-hearted Children movie would be cancel today)
Hey anytime my friend!
This is one of the very few movies where he spoke German
Best reaction video I have seen in a while...loved your reactions!
Hahaha happy to hear! This was a great time!
YO! twelve year olds watching Arnie movies in 2021, that shit warms the heart : D
I really love seeing how much you were enjoying this one! I saw it on VHS when I was a teenager and didn’t remember much, but it is absolutely delightful.
My man! Coming in clutch with a classic just as the day was wearing me down. That’s what’s up.
I also like to think of this movie as the sequel to Three O'Clok High, following the life of Buddy Revel.
