Explanation: The joke is clever in 2 ways. One is that the brother who rescued the girl has moved on, while the brother who did nothing is the one who is still obsessed with the girl's beauty even though she's long gone. The other meaning is that the brother who saved the woman was the truly enlightened one, because he cared more about doing the right thing rather than focusing on self improvement.

I know why this one earn Kratos a chuckle. It properly tickled his sense of discipline as a Spartan.
I need to hear the joke TWICE to get it. The Laird helped the maiden and that is all. He didn't even bat an eye, and never think, or even remember the fair Lady again after that brief encounter. He left behind any thoughts or memory of her on the place where he left her. That's proof that the Laird kept his vow and discipline. The Brother on the other hand. Was smitten. Even after they left the Lady behind, the brother still kept thinking about the lady. Still carrying thoughts of her still in his mind even as they hunt. That's proof the brother's discipline was lacking.
The theme is discipline. Just the sort of joke Kratos would enjoy indeed.

I think the years of being the only adult with a child made him appreciate having an insightful scholar around worth while, and ultimately, made their bond solidify. Mimir keeping Kratos accountable for his rage and Kratos keeping mimir accountable for any wrongs of the aesir gods has made both of them a truly honest duo for each other. I've read a similar story from a zen book. Instead of a bunch of lords it was 2 monks on a journey, then they encounter a women in distress. One of the monk helped her and then they both continued with their journey. For a while, everything seems fine, until the other monk suddenly snapped and scolded the monk who helped the women for being soiled (having impure thoughts and doing impure things). That monk then responded with the exact same words that mimir spoke.

Atreus tells Mimir he is like a second father to him before he departs. Even at the start, Kratos refers to Mimir as ”brother”, not in the sense of Mimir’s initial friendly nicknames for him and his son, but as a true brother. A confidant of his innermost thoughts and feelings. Family.

Fun fact: this is actually a Buddhist parable. It asks a question meant more to make you think than to instill a lesson. The original telling asks if it's more correct to follow the spirit of a rule or its literal meaning. The monk who carried the girl let her distract him for a moment, but the one who didn't, let the girl distract him all day. Is it better that the first one only held her in his mind for a moment or for the second one to not touch the girl at all. It's up to the reader to decide

This is very reminding of a Buddhist tale as well.
A monk and a monk in training or something like that were going along a road and came across a shallow river and an old lady that was having a hard time crossing. Now these monks were forbidden to come in contact with any women.
But when the old lady asked for help the monk without missing a beat helped carry her across, and set her down on the other side. The other monk was shocked that his superior would break one of the tenants and questioned him after a while. And monk replied similiar to what this guy said, that while he had only carried her across the river, he carried her still.

I think Kratos found this so humorous because the tale is of a similar composition to an Aesop Fable: a short, moral lesson is learned by way of an experience, similar to the Frog and the Toad, or the Fox and the Sour Grapes. These were stories of principle and consequence, with rationality buried in them, which Kratos can happily appreciate.
(Also, i know it is a semi-famous Koan, but it does hold a similarly structured message as an Aesop Fable)

It's amazing to me that the kratos from the original trilogy has evolved so convincingly into this kratos from 2018 GOW to Ragnarock . Some people say the OG Kratos was a flat caractor but I don't believe that.
OG Kratos was fueled by rage and self loathing. This new kratos is fueled by the love he has for Atraeus. Not duty, or fate, but love. He WILL NOT fail Atreaus like he did his wife and daughter (even though he was decieved by Ares) he will treat this boy as a treasure to be protected.
Sunny Soljic is so magnificent as well. Chris judge is a veteran voice actor and he's absolutely perfect as Kratos. But Sunny had to jump into a pre existing franchise with a die hard fanbase waiting for him to for or fail. But he 3nded up becoming the heart Kratos lacked in the OG trilogy. He is the calm and reasonable side to Kratos that he has never experienced until now and it shakes him to his core. Now, finally , he has a chance at redemption (hanvent beaten Ragnarock ) I hope he gets the peace he deserves(Kratos) even. If it means his death

I think this game has the most emotionally veunerable version of Kratos, which is really interesting for his charatcter. The last game had a great character for him, but for the game he stiff felt stoick and felt more or less sure of himself, like he was a little more confident. This game is different, he looks very emotionally veunrable, so it's a really touching arc he goes through.

No wonder he chuckled. I mean, Kratos has loosened up quite a lot, but ancient Spartans loved to quip and use smart, witty answers when conversing. It was a part of their training as much as becoming soldiers was, being able to hold their ground and composure even in something as simple as a word battle. The laird's response to his brother is exactly the kind of response a Spartan would give and Kratos is giddy

I had a good laff everytime Kratos loudly said *"It Fits"* when she would upgrade his shit; you could tell he was happy about it, lol. My Dad is Greek and he comes from around where Kratos hailed from in the Peleponnese, and yes he is just as abrupt, curt and laconic as Kratos is. Zero filter on him. I had to grow up with that shit but I suppose now I'm 50 I wouldn't have the taciturn old fart any other way cos he's my Dah, and you only get one of those in the life. 👍🧿
