No don’t make me cry Edit, literally thirty seconds in, tear drops. I miss the days of careless Halo with friends, but hey, I’ve got a career ahead of me, a life, a whole load of experiences I am yet to experience, this goes for you too, random person scrolling through the comments!
This game and this song specifically holds great value to me, 14 years ago I lost my older brother in a car accident when he was just 18. He was here for the original trilogy and loved every part of halo, playing late with friends until the early hours of the morning and then getting just enough sleep to go to school the next day, we lost him about a month before this game came out and it really embodied how I felt after we lost him and even still to this day it's melodies strike me straight to my core and make me cry for him, this is a beautiful cover of my favorite halo song, thank you atinpiano, Marty and Michael for this masterpiece, and rest easy Richie.
I remember when I first dropped into halo’s universe, not as a Spartan, but as an ODST. This game will always hold a special place in my heart as the game that introduced me to halo

I have the exact same Roland FP-30. And this was also the first song I learned. I'm greatly looking forward to this composition I've been playing for 13 months
As a fellow Halo fan and total piano newb myself, I'd love to learn this song. How hard is it for a complete beginner? Do you have any tutorials to recommend ?
@@amaurylaunay Its not too bad to learn actually, Personally I used Ds Musics Arrangement from Marioverhers tutorial. Though I now have made my own arrangement and need to put it on sheets when I get the chance. On that like 2nd part focus on the left hand alot. And good luck with it!
I was playing a D&D game recently, one that is heavy into roleplaying characters and their issues... the cleric in our party was looking for the moon to pray, to ask for guidance in her journey as she was getting desperate because the fear of losing someone close and being lost in the new world she fell on... Stopped the ambient music in W2G that no one was paying attetion to and started this one, our DM avoids listening so he doesn't get distracted for the music, but he started without knowing to go in the same pace as the piano, describes that her words look to be lost in the sky as she is, Selûne could not hear the priestess as she is unwelcome in that plane of existence. Her turn to describe what she would do, her voice sounded even more sad than before, then the piano kicks again and she cracks for an instant, almost about to cry, played along for a moment saying how she really needed help, but will try to not fall into despair yet, that she will keep trying to do what it is needed to be able to reach her again. The DM concerned about her breaking, stops the game for a moment to ask what is going on and we just laugh how good and genuine that felt thanks to this song. Thanks for the cover, and thanks to Martin and Michael for this amazing soundtrack.
Was playing halo 3 odst on my laptop yesterday in class, my teacher saw me and told me it was a good choice. Then told me to hook it up to the projector. God this is so good, this is a great cover props to you
I've been watching Atin piano for around 2 years now and i've waited too long for him to post a halo cover (probally becuase im a halo fanatic) and here it is, played as the best song it could of been, a perfect song. Thanks Atin piano.
Such a sad song to listen to really, takes you back to the memories of Halo being in it's prime, everyone hunting vidmaster achievements for recon armor, the massive communites of forge games on infected. I miss it all.
I had a crappy childhood like a lot of other halo fans. I resonated so much as a kid with ODST , the rookie and this song in particular. I don't know what sort of man I would be today without this franchise and without characters like the Master Chief or the Rookie to be good male role models, but I'm thankful that during the worst time in my life I had them too look upto and to give me strength to push on even if I was all on my own. I have the ODST insignia tattooed on my arm , I look at it all the time when I feel defeated or hopeless.
This is the best cover of this piece I've ever heard. It feels so natural, like it was meant to be played by your hands. The whole piece also translates incredibly well to the piano. The saxophone portions fit perfectly as piano notes, probably because of Marty's writing style. Very good job.
I remember getting this at the midnight release and coming home to play it. Landing in that drop pod. The lights are off in my bedroom and I'm released into New Mombasa and this song starts playing. Chills, a real vibe, the nostalgia, incredible.
Gets me in my feels every single time. I'm 28, and the days of Halo 2, ,3, ODST, and Reach are long behind me. If they followed me home to play in the woods, or if we went inside to split screen Halo campaigns or four player couch PvP, it was my sanctuary from anything that was going on in my life.

I can visualize it all even now...walking the streets of a war-torn New Mombasa with nothing but my last resort sidearm, and my trusty M7S. Then, Martin O'Donnell & Michael Salvatori's music kicked in. I stopped...and listened...I felt those notes sink into me...find me a sliver of hope amidst the darkness of the night. Each movement and advance in combat was no longer a killfest or a jolly walk through a campaign of epic proportions...it was a somber and melancholy experience through the eyes of a lone wolf, in search of his/her pack. A journey through the dark and damp city now in ruins from an alien invasion to Earth. I remember feeling the thrill of exploring each district and road...each alley and office space...but alas, never to see a sight of relief, but pain...a slayed marine, executed civilians...the darkness of war-driven hearts... I remember the power of joy overflowing finding clues of my team, clues of being alive. These were the faint glimmers of hope in the campaign for reuniting. And then, after playing the mission that lead the clues here...it was back to loneliness...isolation, and yearning for more...more hope among hopelessness. Then...more to follow...more streets to venture, more tunnels...an endless search; relentlessly maddening me, as the enemy kept on coming, creating this blackened stain over my once red and fiery heart for war....now just- simply...wanting to be back with my team...to be home. And so we, the players, as one of the ODST's Insertion Team, "The Rookie", mustered as much hope, rage and will to fight as we could...to eventually reunite with our comrades in arms...and aid in compromising our enemies' Engineer. The turn of the tide, that would allow, just as Noble Team did on Reach, the USNC and Master Chief and the Arbiter/Covenant Joint-Ops to push the gates of hell back into the vastness of space...to end an era of videogame history....to footnote the millennia of humanity.

I remember the first time i booted up Halo 3 ODST and heard this. I knew this song was a masterpiece then and it still is today. It's definitely one of my favorite OSTs from the Halo series
"You gonna tell us her name gunny?" "MISS Naval Intelligence, our new boss." "Oh brother..." "So check your mouths, find your chairs... [angrily shoves a sniper rifle into Romeo's hands] ...and get set for a combat drop!" *Rookie staring at Dare's helmet in the building overlook room.*
This song and the whole soundtrack of ODST helped play a huge part in making it one of the best halo games for me. Ever since, it's been textbook for unexpected masterpieces and Bungie absolutely owned this project and made it worth every single penny. So glad I got to experience it when it was new.
odst was great because you weren't playing as a spartan... you were just a soldier... a rookie left alone in the streets, not knowing if your team was still alive. you were forced to tiptoe about in darkness because your ammo was limited and the enemy would not have much trouble killing you with numbers or heavier firepower. Music like this tied it together as a masterpiece that gave the perfect atmosphere of dread, despair, broken up by the occasional crumb of hope from a discarded sniper rifle, a drone survey unit, a malfunctioning ticket machine or even a telephone. This music is amazing, thank you for making this
Damn… this song always hit me really hard. It makes me think of old times… happier times (in my memories) that now are gone. A virtual hug to all others old Halo players out there… and a really great “thank you” to AtinPiano for this masterpiece.

Oh, this sure brings back memories of when I first played Halo back in second grade, and immediately falling in love, that feeling of walking through the streets gave a sense of eerieness. I still play all of the campaigns after almost 7 years. Good times
I swear this is one of the only songs that no matter what I'm doing, or how happy I am it will always make me tear up. I love how this song is and it just gives me both a relaxing feeling as well as a sort of lonely type of feeling.
that is a very, very good interpretation you did. I am sincerely loving your job with this song; even though it might not be the hardest song to learn, it does take some effort to master it, and it shows when someone puts work into their effort. perhaps my favorite part of your execution is your hand steadiness, which just proves how much work has been put to it: to the point you feel quite confident playing it. again, a great job with this song.
I've been listening to this on repeat for the past month. I don’t know why, but I feel a sense of longing I can't shake, like nothing is right here, and I need to go elsewhere.

Don't know if I agree with "gamerz were real back then," but I do agree that Halo 3 ODST just wouldn't work today. Something has changed, certainly. Hard times haven't disappered, so I think gaming as an escape from life's sorrow is still very much a thing. I do miss the era when this game came out, though. This rendition does stir some nostaligia and a bit of sadness.
@@nicholasvaultonburg9152 Looking back I could have explained myself better. What I said about gamers being real gamers was is that it just seems like then it was about enjoying the game and everyone else having fun too. Now it just seems like everyone is sweating or trolling. Less people are playing for fun and more for getting the win by any means possible, it’s not entertainment, it’s a job. On the flip side there’s the trolls. They want their fun and find it often in your suffering. Maybe this is an illusion, but it seems gone are the days when others cared about others' enjoyment.
@@CrabCake0 That was the exact same thing that happened back then, games were filled with trolls and people sweating and camping. Nothing has changed, just your perspective
Still my favorite game of them all for 2 specific reasons: 1. It doesn't glorify killing your enemies but justifies you surviving and doing what is necessary 2. Shows you the resilience of humanity at its weakest moments and how we humans can overcome adversity and destruction when we are faced with it. (If only this world could do the same now) Amazing cover my friend, keep up the amazing work!

This song is super crazy good. Out of every cover you've done piano only, this is the only song where I really really miss an original element of the original piece. That sax was just so damn good. Probably my overall favorite Halo piece in terms of just raw emotions.
For us, the storm has passed... the war is over. But let us never forget those who journeyed into the howling dark and did not return. For their decision required courage beyond measure; sacrifice, and unshakable conviction that their fight... our fight, was elsewhere. As we start to rebuild, this hillside will remain barren, a memorial to heroes fallen. They ennobled all of us, and they shall not be forgotten.
When I hear this I picture myself afloat in a fast calm ocean, staring at the starry night sky. Everything is a perfect calm, a dead silence. Only you and those sweet New Mombasa memories.
Atin, I just found your videos yesterday. I really appreciate the content variety between great games and cinema/shows. I've been blown away by everything, but the Halo and Mass Effect brought a tear to the eye. Phenomenal work!
Absolute unit of a guy you are, thank you! This game series has amazing songs suited to be played in the piano alone, and this one is one of the best ones. Phenomenal
I remember waiting in line at midnight for ODST to drop. The 2nd game I ever did that with the 1st being Halo 3. Played all night long and though I've played halo since it came out this by far is one of the best halos
ODST I think did the best visual story telling, when in the HUB as rookie. Wondering around and looking at the Marines and elites who tried to hold while fighting the covenant. Or looking at a metropolis in ruin is just something else
All halos series hit me hard. Brings so much memory n long nights of hours and enjoyment. If I can rewind I will back to the time I was exposed to halo.

One of my favorite songs period being performed by one of my favorite artists? sign me the hell up.
Good old ODST, you don't play as some augmented killing machine, simply Humanity's Best. RIP The Rookie, you were one helluva soldier.
odst was great because you weren't playing as a spartan... you were just a soldier... a rookie left alone in the streets, not knowing if your team was still alive. you were forced to tiptoe about in darkness because your ammo was limited and the enemy would not have much trouble killing you with numbers or heavier firepower.
A virtual hug to all others old Halo players out there… and a really great “thank you” to AtinPiano for this masterpiece.
you insoired me to become a better pianist. you showed me that it was possible to have fun on piano and do what you want. i have played so many of your pieces, thank you so much
Oh, this sure brings back memories of when I first played Halo back in second grade, and immediately falling in love, that feeling of walking through the streets gave a sense of eerieness. I still play all of the campaigns after almost 7 years. Good times
So much nostalgia. Halo 3 ODST has always had it's special place in my heart ever since I was a kid.
Ah, ODST. My first Halo experience. Good times and good memories.
This was my first halo game, it was lonely. It had the best atmosphere ive ever been eveloped by, there hasnt been that many fps games that do this.
Throwing this in the odst cry myself to sleep playlist for sure
beautiful! those three chords really send shivers through me timbers, what a score. "its just a video game soundtrack" im not crying you are.
Rookie didn’t deserve to die the way he did, he was definitely Spartan material
Rest In Peace Rook
I think this song brings out a very specific feeling, the feeling that what you're dealing with is bigger than anything you could ever handle
bring a tear to your eye for people that dint really exist. what a beautiful song.
This is beautiful - you've taken an amazing piece and made it sound even more beautiful somehow. I am blown away honestly - Well done!
OOOH, I CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR THIS ONE!
edit: this was beautiful - thank you, Atin, for sharing your cover with us.
*Inserte lluvia de fondo
Simplemente increible me transporta a mi melancolia feliz
By FAR the best version of this song! So beautiful!
1:07 my favorite part
Enough to make a grown man cry.
Beautifully done.🖤
I've been listening to this on repeat for the past month. I don’t know why, but I feel a sense of longing I can't shake, like nothing is right here, and I need to go elsewhere.
the first note so strong and echo's it hits you like a wall of bricks
So glad people still do covers of this masterpiece. Excellent vid.
Holy shit! I did not expect this. Going to have to learn this one too!
bruUuh where was this when I was scouring the internet last year for a tutorial of this song? most tutorials show the “neon light” version instead of “deference for darkness” and this is what I needed thank youuu
This was our world we forged for ourselves. You may have missed the the time of penny candy and might miss the mars colonies, but my brothers, morn not, for you made this, a golden age, for yourselves. Revel in those bejeweled memories.
As someone once said: born too early to discover the universe, born too late to discover the New World, born just in time to experience the greatest digital universes ever created
Yeah must just be one of those “good old days” paradoxes, your right fs
Still my favorite game of them all for 2 specific reasons:
1. It doesn't glorify killing your enemies but justifies you surviving and doing what is necessary
2. Shows you the resilience of humanity at its weakest moments and how we humans can overcome adversity and destruction when we are faced with it. (If only this world could do the same now)
Amazing cover my friend, keep up the amazing work!
if ur K/D and W/L is negative in all halos just say that bro.
Your piano and playing sounds so very crisp and clear. I am envious of whatever setup you have where you can make sounds as clean as this. Not very many other videos that play the songs you post can boast the same thing! I appreciate the great work, it is nostalgic. Thank you!
Legendary, I’m learning all the Star Wars ones and the assassins creed medley with time from you 🙂 thank you
God, this gave me chills and nearly brought me to tears. Incredible job, no words can describe how wonderful and cathartic this is to hear.
The year is 2552
Humanity is at war with a collection of alien races known as The Covenant
We are losing.
Im not crying I cant so many memories with Halo games especially my favorite Halo 3 ODST
It’s a amazing how one instrument can create such an atmosphere
Dropping in the pod as an ODST and feeling the weight of loneliness and the resolve to survive. Masterful soundtrack to a great game! The memories!
mann.. yeah 2023 was bit rough. Just now, I finally look up for something I wanted to listen to that I did not expect I needed so much. This.. this feels like home. It warms my soul
I’ve adored this song for years upon years. I have never seen it played with such passion. This is beyond perfect, Spartan…… 💚
This song is my favorite from ODST and always brings back so many years of nostalgia. Man, I miss those days! Wish I knew I'd miss them in the moment.
one of marty's finest contributions to what makes halo halo - a simply beautiful song performed wonderfully in this video
What can I say? This is underrated and forgotten by the fans.
Halo piano, Super Mario Galaxy piano, and Kingdom Hearts piano. 👑💎 Simply the best.
im so glad there are people who love music so much that they can create smthng like that im actually envious about that since i lack the the one thing thats needed to fully commit to an intsrument love this song makes me feel good and bad at the same time
i had a friend that passed and he was a huge fan of Halo and thats when i discovered this song was not 4 minutes but instead 4 hours long
This song is super crazy good.
Goosebumps and tears. Literally goosebumps and tears 😭
I Already knew it is gonna be excellent
You are not a spartan. You are just a soldier. Victory will still be yours.
This is the most beautiful piece of music one can ever listen too. Brilliant
the odst sound track is just one of those beautifully orchestrated osts that I cant get out of my head
When I hear this I picture myself afloat in a fast calm ocean, staring at the starry night sky. Everything is a perfect calm, a dead silence. Only you and those sweet New Mombasa memories.
still brings a tear of joy in my face, what a beautiful melody marty odonell created. it speaks to my heart. very well done on the cover
Pizza, sleepovers, Halo 3 ODST, my favourite cousin.. I close my eyes and I'm there. Thank you.
1:43 that hit the spot….
I still need to go back and find all the audio logs for this game... But man, the feels get me every time 🥺
By far one of my top Halo games ever.
For some reason i find this to be the most calming thing, ever. Thank you.
Atin, I just found your videos yesterday. I really appreciate the content variety between great games and cinema/shows. I've been blown away by everything, but the Halo and Mass Effect brought a tear to the eye. Phenomenal work!
Thank you so much!
This is probably my favorite piece of music. I want to play it some day!
ODST I think did the best visual story telling, when in the HUB as rookie. Wondering around and looking at the Marines and elites who tried to hold while fighting the covenant. Or looking at a metropolis in ruin is just something else
ODST is my favorite just because of the ambience of the dark streets; and the music is a big part of it.
All halos series hit me hard. Brings so much memory n long nights of hours and enjoyment. If I can rewind I will back to the time I was exposed to halo.
