I have a Cort KX300 which uses these pickups, with mahogany open pore body. They continue to blow my mind with how great and dynamic they sound, and the resonance is also incredible!
I play 81,85,60 and 707 for years. Just threw a set of super 77 in my classic les paul and... OMFG!!! EMG just combined all the pros from both actives and passives and delivered awesomeness!!
@@AndrewZMusic to be honest, playing the 81 with the 77 back to back, I needed some time to adapt but once you understand them, how they work and what they want they are insane! I'm hooked!
Getting ready to order a set of 77's. I was always anti EMG since the late 80s when I really started getting into guitar and upgrading them. But, I got a Harley Benton Sc550 plus w/ EMG's. Which for the price I just couldn't pass up the "test". I absolutely love that guitar and it came w/ retro active fat 55's. After that, I ordered a set of the 57/66'S for a les paul. I was amazed at how easy it was to install. I did that mainly cause my eyes are just not what they once were and my soldering has gotten sloppy. So, i ordered that set cause I figured that's what Ritchie Faulkner uses and I love that guys playing and sound.. and with it being solderless that got me to actually order them. Now, half my collection have EMG's in it. Mainly retro's and the 57/66's. But, I want to try these 77's can't wait to get them.
Just received them today. The project is to install them on my affinity jazzmaster and I believe the zebra pickups will look good on it. Can’t wait to chug it and find the difference between my emg 81/60 strat. Edit: Just tried out the bridge pickup, it sound so vibrant and than the 81 and it doesn't sound so distractive. I had to turn the gain to max unlike the 81, where put it at 8 which is enough.
I had a set of these, they sound GREAT but the set I got was CRAZY hot and it was hard to get a pure clean out of them. I might get another set somewhere down the line though just to give em another shot. I've been using the Fat 55s for almost 2 years now and they're phenomenal.
I just ordered an ESP ec-1000fr with 57/66s, my first EMG's, for blues, rock and jazz. Did I make a mistake and should have got a more modest guitar and put 77's in?
I have a bad noise problem with my guitar[PRS se custom with passive pickup]. I think its from electro magnetic interfearence in my room [ when I turn the guitar around, the hum goes away in certain angle]. I dont have this problem with my another guitar with active pickup. Will changing my pickup to this EMG retro 77 solves the problem? Does this EMG retro picks up EMI noise in the air?

Hello! Do you play metal?
@@NaNaNaS_000 Just a little, Guilty Gear stuff. According to a friend who plays metal though, my guitar is very suitable for metal.

Yes I absolutely agree. I think I like them even better than 57/66 but those are super good too.

Man I love how well rounded these sound. I’ve been looking for a set that offers classic rock all the way to blues/jazz. I think I’m sold.
Damn, these sound so good. Hate active but love the super 77s lol
Exactly!
I have these pickups on my Cort guitar. They are really good pickups .
I play with a relatively light touch, and I find that works quite well with the 81x-60x I have in my Ibanez.
Yes the X series are great and dynamic
This is really helpful. I've been looking for the right pickups to change the zakk set outta my les paul but still keep the punch
You can choose the color of the pickup? I only see black and zebra

Yes two very different animals indeed! But man do I love them! Congrats on your new sound, have fun and play your heart out

Might want to check the grounding and shielding on the guitar with passive pickups that’s giving you trouble.
