Can you be more specific as to the compound you use. For example, some experts say you can’t use multipurpose compound with mesh tape because it has a tendency to separate in the future. Instead use Sheetrock 20 or 45. They also say to use Plus 3 on second and subsequent coats. Can you comment?

Andrew, thanks for some nice tips on drywall repair. One thought: after sanding, you probably should wipe down the area before applying the next coat.

A taping specialist told me a trick. Use your taping tool and cut off the ridges before adding more compound. It is much faster and much less dusty.
