I Love Hoyas! I got my first hoya 21 years ago for $0.99. The place I got it at, had it on clearance with no name tag. It was nothing more than two sticks in a pot with one leaf on each stick that were almost dead. So I had no idea what it was, until I started to get new growth and researched it. I found out it was a Krimson Queen, just like yours. I still have it, and it is doing awesome and has given me blooms too. It was this hoya that sparked my passion for them. I now have 10 different types of Hoyas. When I find one I don't have for a good price, I snap it up. Thank you for the awesome video and for sharing your Hoyas with us. 🌸

Hey ❤ found your channel due to my love for Hoyas 🤣
I was gonna tell you that the difference that I have found between lacunosa and khroniana is that lacunosa is a longer slender leaf and khroniana is more of a spade shape. Not trying to be a know it all but I believe your second plant is most likely a khroniana Eskimo. Which is still an amazingly beautiful plant. You’ve done really well keeping them beautiful ❤

To help prevent your bud blasting, try adding a little CalMag at every watering. Calcium is vital for areas of new growth. Because in nature, Hoyas grow on trees, whenever it rains, some calcium leeching out from the tree bark washes onto the Hoyas.
Mimicking nature where we can is the secret. I learned this from Rick L’s orchid channel which he does for his orchids. Like Hoyas, orchids grow on trees. Because I use the orchid fertilized water or just CalMag in water on my Hoyas, I realized I haven’t gotten any bud blasting since I started doing this. Rick really knows how plants use minerals!😲. Calcium will also prevent the tips of leaves from dying.

    • @anawithplants
      @anawithplants  5 месяцев назад

oooo I heard calmag is good for anthurium but not much on how it can help hoyas. thank you for the tip, I'll try it out! 🙂

I was not into hoyas because to me, they all looked too similar and uninteresting. But then I got a small Hoya australis ´Lisa´, which really took off this year and is getting ready to bloom... and I´m utterly in love with her. One of the most beautiful plants ever :-) So I got also several variegated hoyas (heuschkeliana, wayeti, burtoniae aff.) and I´m getting much more into hoyas now :-) You inspired me to search for a variegated polyneura, which is stunning too. There certainly is a suitable hoya for everyone´s taste 🙂

I think hoya haters just don’t have much experience on how to grow them, they probably do the taco test or ignore them until its wrinkly so the plant is never fully happy. At the same time many find the tendrils difficult. After I got my first hoya, I was alright about it but when it grew leaves in my care, it was much more healthy leaves and so waxy n pretty and now most of collection is hoya❤️

I got into houseplants late in life, after my husband passed away 10 years ago. I didn't understand what the fuss was about with Hoya and had no interest in them. Now I have several varieties and love them. My favorite is the Retusa which is probably weird but I find them so cute! I've never had a hoya bloom and I don't know what I'm doing wrong but for now I'm just enjoying them as is.

I'm a certified Hoya Hater but I do have one (and only one!) - it's the Polyneura! I enjoy it's veining and leaf shape, although the growth pattern is a little awkward imo. I find that hoyas have mostly the same leaf shape (I have similar feelings to anthirium which generally riles people up hahaha) and I don't feel drawn to their thick leaf/woody stem situation. They really do nothing for me 😬

It likely didn't receive enough light. Hoya need light. But there are also just some drama lamas among them that suck the joy out of growing them.
Caudata is lovely and easy, Mathilde is gorgeous and easy, Hoya Memoria, Minibelle, Carnosa, Pubicalyx, Lockii, Elmerii (former Mindorensis), Rebecca, Erythrina... These are all easy ones that usually will start growing after a very short time of settling in - provided there is decent light to be had. Most of them also flower easily and willingly. Also, feed them once in a while. Makes a huge difference in how well they grow.

This was an interesting video. I'm a bit jealous of those that enjoy the Lacunosa scent as to me it is a very strong, overwhelming smell of old pee (think public bathroom) and I just can't have it in the same room with me. But most seem to love the smell 🤷‍♀️
Another unusual Hoya would be the Hindu Rope. She's truly unique. I also love how ridiculously hairy the Thomsonii is.
Also, if you wait long enough, any two leaved cutting can become a beast 😬 I received a 1 leaf cutting of a regular Carnosa about 13 or 14 years ago (didn't know anything about Hoya then). Let's just say my innocent, inexperienced self let her grow as she liked, no restraints or restrictions. She has taken over an entire corner and we don't dare interfere 😅

that's wild, I think the lacunosa scent is just flower-y. and I totally forgot about the hindu rope! I have a variegated one that would've been nice to show, darn...
LOL I love it when plants get so big you just let them do their thing, that's awesome! 💚

Omg I have the same experience with the smell. I can’t stand it! I had it in my bedroom but had to take it out. It’s still a flowery smell but I get the urine smell mixed in there too. Thought it was just me 😂

Hi Anna🪴 can you recommend a great Hoya seller? I live in NYC and have ALWAYS wanted the linearis and I haven't ever seen it at any of the many plant shops and garden centers and big shop stores here in NYC. I really want an established size and not a tiny cutting. Help. 🪴🪴🪴🪴🙏🏼
    C.V. Ann is desirable too

Try Canopy plants online, Gabriellas online....

hi Jenny, that's pretty tough right now because the linearis is popular again so it's more expensive and harder to come by for big pots.
I actually grew mine from a few cuttings over the last year so you might be surprised how fast they can grow! 💚
in terms of online stores, browsing on Etsy or the hoya facebook group might turn up something.
