Pease set about his vision of creating a beautiful town on the cliff, wand building as many houses as possible with sea views, called Jewel streets, Coral, Garnet, Ruby, Emerald, Pearl, Diamond and Amber Streets.
The town was founded by The Quakers, so there was a ban on public houses, alcohol though could be served in social clubs and hotels. The first public house was opened in 1982, was 'The Victoria. '
The Saltburn Miniature railway runs from the coast to ½ mile inland to Forest Halt, at Valley Gardens, where there is a woodland walk and Italian gardens.

The Saltburn Cliff Lift or Tramway, is one of the worlds oldest water Powered Funiculars. It was constructed between 1883 and 1884. Each Car holds 12 people, and have a huge water tank that holds 1.100 Litres of water. The Brakeman controls the water, pumping it into the top lift, and the weight of that going down, causes the other one to be pulled up.
