Lived in marske the last twenty years still a nice little village grew up in brotton just up the road the other side of saltburn proud to be from this area sometimes u don't appreciate it when u grew up here .
Absolutely freaking out right now!! Sitting in my house in NC USA… I used to live in Marske, on Coast Road… AND I JUST SAW MY CHILDHOOD HOUSE!!!! Thank you so much for your video.. I’m in tears🥰
This brought back happy memories of visits to my grandparents in Marske. My Nana was very involved in the church community at St Mark’s, including the Mothers’ Union. They lived not far from the church and Marske Hall, while my grandad’s brother lived overlooking St Germain’s churchyard. Such a lovely village. I remember the Valley Gardens, the beach of course, and visiting a little shop called Anderson’s to buy gifts and souvenirs. Thank you for reminding me of some very happy times 😊
Ah those are some wonderful memories indeed - I'm so glad you enjoyed watching this video and thinking back to those old times in Marske, a lovely place if there ever were one :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!
Although I'm originally from New Marske (1956-1981) I went to senior school in Marske by the Sea, back then it was called Bydales County Modern and I left in 1971. I met my first girlfriend in Marske Square and have spent many hours on the beach, it was even part of our school cross country course. This video brings back great memories. Thank you.
I lived there untill I was 12, then my family moved to London for my dads new job. Went to Errington and Bydales. I used to live in a road called The kirklands. 5 minutes and I was on the beach. Great memories. Great video.
Thank you so much! That's so kind of you to say - Marske is such a wonderful place and its history is rather interesting too :) Thank you very much for watching - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!
My Grandmother was from Redcar, and her ancestors were the Huttons of Marske, breeders of thoroughbred racehorses. There's a wonderful painting of the horse, "Marske, painted by George Stubbs.
Sitting here in Melbourne Australia. I grew up in marske, went to byedales school and errington primary school. I know every inch of that little village spent all my childhood days running around it. I often dream about the place would love to return someday and just take a walk around the streets I grew up in. The nostalgia is hitting me hard watching this.
Such a beautiful video - thank you. I know Saltburn very well but am ashamed to say that I have never visited Marske. That closing walk to the beach and to the end of the video is ethereal.
Thank you so much to everybody for helping us reach 1,000 subscribers! It really means the world to me to hear that you're enjoying these walks - and rest assured that I have plenty more fascinating places to show you in the future! Stay tuned and enjoy the gorgeous seaside town of Marske (on an amazingly sunny afternoon!)
Thankyou so much for this video it brought back memories as my dad and mum spent their final years there ! I and my family were fortunate to stay with them ,and found the town and surrounding area lovely .🇳🇿🇬🇧👫👫🌞😃
It certainly is a wonderful part of the world - and I'm sure you have some wonderful memories of the sea and the countryside in Marske :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!
Absolutely! It's a gorgeous little place on a spectacular part of the coast - I'm sure you've done the walk along the coast from Saltburn to Marske or vice versa too, that's one of my absolute favourites in the UK :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!
Lovely church. My grandfather made the rails for the steps up to the chancel. I spent many a Friday during holidays or Saturday polishing the brass altar rail while my grandmother and great aunt did the flowers for Sunday!
how beautiful, I first heard about marske when we got a typical holiday postcard saying greetings from marske back in the early 80s from one of my dad aunt´s. THX
Thank you so much! That holiday postcard may have been commonplace back in the early '80s but I bet it's a collectors' item nowadays! It might even get a place in the exhibitions at Winkie's Castle ;) Thanks for watching and your wonderful comments as always - I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed the video!
@@LetsWalkUK The collection at Winkies Castle is a closed collection. It's comprised of the artifacts collected by the late Jack Anderson. There are old postcards in the collection though. Out of interest Jack was actually a Master Shoemaker but was referred to as the local cobbler.
Thank you so much! You always give the kindest comments - I'm so grateful for your support, and it makes me really happy to hear that you enjoy each of these videos :) Thank you for watching as always!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - Marske is a lovely little town and one I knew little about before visiting! But indeed - it has a great history and some gorgeous seaside scenery :) Thank you so much for watching and commenting as always!
Thank you so much! Marske is such a lovely place to visit for a day by the sea, but you're absolutely right - it has a really fascinating history especially for a town of its size :) Thanks for watching - I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed the video!
Thank you so much! Marske has some of the best seaside views in the country, with the North Yorkshire coast particularly beautiful on sunny days like this :) Thank you very much for watching and especially subscribing - it really means a lot to me!
This is an excellent (slightly underexposed in places) video and very enjoyable and interesting. It would be worth checking some of the historical facts especially the Cheshire Home.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - there is indeed a lot of history to discover in Marske, I couldn't quite fit it all into this short walk around the centre, but you're right, there is a lot more history to be found there :) Thank you for watching and for your very kind words!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - I really do enjoy discovering the UK and all the hidden facets of its great map, including places just like Marske :) Thank you so much for watching!
A Miner's Institute! Thank you very much for clearing that up - I remember encountering some conflicting sources in my research on what kind of 'community centre' it was, but I'm very grateful for your help on that one :) Thank you very much for watching - I do hope you enjoyed the video!
I'm surprised you didn't mention the most beautiful thing in the town. Inside St Marks is the most beautifully carved Norman font which was found buried in the sand dunes where the Norman church of St Germains stood.
Seems there were a lot of claims of who killed the Red Baron. Brits, Aussies, Canadians. Thanks for another great walk. I have a friend here who used to live in Middlesborough.
That's a very good point! Perhaps it was Captain Brown who made the shot or maybe it was someone else. Either way it's a nice claim to fame for Marske among its many other historical features :) Thank you so much for watching and commenting as always - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!
You're welcome! And thank you very much for watching - Marske has some very interesting history to it along with a gorgeous coastline, and is a lovely place to visit :)
Sheila I live in Marske, have done for 33 years. Longbeck station is at the top of my road. So no, Longbeck Station is not in Redcar. The next station after Longbeck is Redcar East, then Redcar Central or if going the other way, Marske, then Saltburn, which is the end of the line.
my grandfathers first wife came from Marske...he left her for my grandmother whom was his mistress, had 2 children by her then went back to his first wife to hellp raise a son by his first wifes brother...
Please stop these videos im from middlesbrough we dont want all them southerners realising even tho we have plenty of industry we have beautiful coast Redcar Marske Saltburn Staithes down to whitby, the North yorkshire moors national park literally on our door step, the Yorkshire Dales 30 mins away the lakes just over a hour SSHHHHH!

Moved to Marske aged 4 in 1960, lived at 5 High St, not there anymore. Left aged 19 to join the Royal Marines. Happy childhood memories.

Ha, I went to the same schools as you, left Marske age 12 and family moved to London (that was a shock)
@@mytube2959 oh crazy! What years were you there?
Around 1971 for the start of junior school. I'm 58 now 👍
......I left Bydales after a year and a half. I'm sure it had over 1000 kids then. My older brother and sister did a full stint there.

Racing cars along the beach between Saltburn and Marske was a big thing between the'30's and the:60:s.
The White building opposite St. Marks Church was actually built as a Miners Institute + it was this that became a cinema (Kinema).

There is no Smugglers
Den the only pubs are The Ship, The Clarendon, The Zetland, The Frigate and The Mermaid.
I have lived in Marske for all of my life (11 years) and I can barely name 10 streets in it
It’s the sort of thing you take for granted. I must have walked up the high street I don’t know how many times, straight past Winkie’s castle!
Please note Marske is a village not a town. And Longbeck station is in Redcar.
With due respect Sheila, Longbeck station is in Marske.

@@annsidgwick1003 On the border between Marske & New Marske? I used to go to the level crossing when everything was manual and watch the trains.
It’s a shame you didn’t turn right just after the Ship Inn, down to the Valley Gardens, which is a much prettier way to get to the beach.
Does marske have any big shops
Just a co op on the high street.
Voice over better than subtitles.

I'm afraid you're using too wide angle a camera resulting in bent verticals, very tiresome to watch.
