    Thank you for being kind to Redcar. It's the poor cousin to neighboring seaside towns and often gets bad press. This little town has spectacular beaches, petrified forests hidden under the sand and beautiful views. Again thank you for your take on little Reeds scar ♡

      You're right that Redcar does get a bit of bad press - but on visiting I was thoroughly impressed with the town's history and seaside views. There's certainly much more to Redcar than many people know :)
      Thank you so much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!

      Hi, I'm thinking of moving to Redcar, but I need to find work. I work in warehouses and I was wondering if there are any warehouse industrial estates in Redcar? Thanks!

    Yet another quality tour of one of the favourite stomping grounds of my youth. I hope the region can recover from the industrial decline of the past few decades.

      Thank you so much! It means a lot! Redcar is a great place even though it's been through some tough times - hopefully more people come round to seeing its great heritage rather than the years of recent decline :)

    Also the Dunkirk beach scene from 'Atonement' was filmed on Redcar beach.

      Wow! There's seemingly more and more to Redcar than even meets the eye - very interesting to hear, so thanks for sharing with us :)
      Thank you so much for watching too - I really hope you enjoyed the video!

    Seeing it through your camera lens, particularly the beach, doesn't instil many fond memories of childhood day trips on the bus from M/Boro but I'm pleased it is finally getting another chance to regenerate. A year or so back there was an ITV 'special' about how the locals were bemoaning the death of the town, how there weren't any jobs, no decent shops and how the place was desolate! I think it has always been the case, where central government is concerned, that anywhere north of Watford Gap isn't worth investing in. That's such a pity. Anywho, as always, thanks for the upload ... and do take care with the traffic all around you!

    • @LetsWalkUK
      @LetsWalkUK  3 года назад +1

      Thank you so much! As you say there is more and more regeneration going on in Redcar, I've visited again since making this video and the old cinema is gone now in exchange for a widening of the Promenade :)
      Thank you so much for watching - I'm very glad you enjoyed the video, and I will indeed take care on the roads!

      @@LetsWalkUK What I didn't mention in my original comment was how as a child the massive amount of hideous looking seaweed which littered the sand really put me off. I don't recall it being as prolific in Whitby and Saltburn or Scarborough. I think Robbin Hood's Bay was riddled with the stuff too. Like marine triffids, hahaha.

      There's a new cinema being built to replace the Regent.
      Walking past today it looks nearly done.
      Thanks for a good view of my home town (although I was born 230 miles south).

    Redcar is famous for It's "yellow top" ice creams, local signature speciality.
    Also the kerbstones along the promenade are made from local dark blue limestone with white "devil's toenails" fossils embedded in it.
    Wow the tale about the Norwegian ship was amazing.

    • @LetsWalkUK
      @LetsWalkUK  3 года назад

      I didn't know about the ice creams - and I certainly didn't know about the kerbs! Thank you so much for sharing, Redcar is a fascinating place, and I was enthralled when I first heard the story of the Berger, it's an incredible tale indeed :)
      Thank you for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!

    Thank you so much for these videos. I am living in Australia but lived in the North East of England for 6 years till 2002. I’m a keen walker and hiker and have made many of my own RUclips travel videos. However, I recently had major surgery so I’m grounded. Through your videos I’ve had time to visit places I had overlooked when I lived in the NE. Thank you for the research you have put into these videos. It is excellent work and I’m loving walking with you. Thank you and take care. Dave

    Originally from New Marske just a few miles away, I spent many times in Redcar in the 60s/70s and back then it was a great Town and I have good memories. Don't know what time of year this video was made but it looks absolutely dead, can't ever remember Redcar so quiet.

    Nice work! Great video of my hometown 👌 was good to see the regent cinema still standing in its final days before demolition 😔 I have fond memories of going there in the 80’s to see rocky 4, gremlins and ghostbusters. When you visited st Peter’s church you should have panned around to the left to get fisherman’s square in shot aswell 😉 there is also the remains of an old windmill there aswell 👀 but a great video all the same 👍 👍 type in Redcar windmill in google and check out the first image it’s a gem especially the guy sat on top of it 👌

      Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed the video, those memories of some great 80s blockbusters at the Regent must be wonderful. Thanks for the tip on the windmill, I'm sorry but I just didn't know it was there 😅 But I've looked it up and you're right - another fascinating part of the Redcar's history :)

      It's always amazing to see how some parts of a town change so much and others stay the same for years, even centuries! But I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed the video, and that it brought back some nice memories of Redcar from the past :)

    Nice to see you use the proper County name of North Yorkshire. We'll done. And not something that was abolished in 1996. 😊😊👍

    • @LetsWalkUK

      Ha ha counties and borders in Teesside can be rather confusing indeed - but I think Redcar can be very proud of its triple identity of North Yorkshire, Cleveland and Teesside :)

    I left this place to move to Lillehammer Norway and obviously I can’t say I regret that one but but I definitely don’t hate the place now as much as I did growing up there. Hopefully it improves financially, culturally and socially.

    The high st, is also home to obese teenage mothers and their obese mothers, with the occasional nice bit if totty. Chavs are also in plentiful supply. The best thing about redcar.... is Saltburn is just down the road.
    Same they tore down the old cinema.
    They filmed Atonement (movie with Kiera knightly) on redcar beach....left of the old cinema.
    Under the sand, where you stepped onto the beach are the remains of an old wooden boat, that got washed up....
    Much further down the beach.... you can sometimes find found Seal pups, laying on the beach.... as I did last week. Quite common apparently. Still alive of course.
