  • [links in description] We had a customer request for a showdown between the new Adams A1v2 and a Bach Stradivarius. I decided to go with my favorite Bach in the shop right now, an Anniversary Model 43 in raw brass. There are some similarities between the two horns so it should be an interesting comparison!
Both are great professional trumpets, medium large bore, similar weight, both very well balanced.
    The Adams A1: www.austincust...
    The Bach: www.austincust...
    ACB acrylic rim mouthpieces: www.austincust...
    ACB prototype mouthpieces: www.austincust...
The Adams has the ovate tuning slide and bell bow, but the bell profiles are pretty similar (slightly tighter flare on the Adams).
The Anniversary model Bach Strads are really fantastic trumpets, so both of these are good contestants for a player looking for a great pro horn.
Be sure to put what YOU hear in the comments, how do these two horns compare for you?
    Playtest time stamps:
    2:54 Arban's
    4:50 Charlier 2
    6:38 Bebop
    8:09 Ballad
    9:52 Pop

I like the Adams because of the brightness to me it is a lead horn. This Bach would be more of a small combo horn, it sounds like it is more forgiving.
I currently play a gold plated lightweight 37 Bach that has a tunable bell. It is fantastic and very versatile for playing outside, inside and I have a regular weight 37 bell for concert work. Trent I wish you could play it. Anyway in this test I like the Adams.

Wow! What beautiful sounding trumpets. It would be hard for me to select one of these horns from just listening to them. If I had to select from just this comparison and they were the same price, I would go with the Bach simply because I am playing one now and I think it would be easier to change to it.

Both sound great. For me I liked the Bach a little bit more in the lower register and the Adams in the upper. Overall...Adams. That being said, I think they’ve done a great job capturing the early Elkhart sound with the anniversary model.

Bach is darker, colder, has less projection. Adams warmer, has more spin, sounds less resistant.

Brightness leaps out of the Bach sound with the articulation. The core of the Adams sound is most prominent until the intensity ramps up.

You sound great on both trumpets. I think I prefer the sound on the Adams on the Arbans and jazz. It sounds like the targets are bigger and more locked in. I did like the sound of the Bach better on the commercial studf.

I hesitate to tell my preference because I don’t want to start a flame war, but I prefer the Bach. It sounds cleaner, clearer, less stuffy, slightly brighter, but then it should, with a 43 bell. They both sound good, though. It’s a matter of degrees.

Although you sound great on both I like the warmer sound of the Bach. I have a 1935 and a 1958 Bach Strad so I am probably partial.

For sound, I prefer this particular Bach 43, though I perceive there’s more resistance with the Bach.

The Mt Vernon Bach Strad was the standard of the industry. Can’t do wrong with a Bach, but I owned a Bach so I’m partial to it. The Adams looks funky.

I’ve been playing on a Bach LR 43 Strad for over 20 years counting back to high school for me. The Bach here has a very familiar sound to me. I would call it bright and poppy. The wires that came to mind for the Adams was creamy. As someone that plays more lead jazz regularly, is there an Adams horn that would be a step up from a reverse leadpipe 43 bell Bach Strad? An A2 like this, or maybe an A4 LT?

What do I hear? To me the Adams has a clearer, sweeter, slightly brighter sound than the Bach. I prefer the Adams. BTW Where in Arban’s book would I find the first excerpt you played?

Both are good or wonderful , i play yamaha i should take Adam A1 , because i go by how it sounds or tone , Bach sounds like easy center and good blow at start but at high sounds short and elastic but i know that it hits hard., Adan a 1 the lower tone it has a little less carácter but equal good treble and at high nicer and it feels spandible and good for latin gen. the only thing for me is that at beginning if say Fa it sounds like Flaa it has an accent but it's Ok. The are not similar, they are appreciated similar. Thanks for your good testing.
