Do you feel like you might be ready to start wearing hijab?
"How do you know you're ready?" is a question many Muslim girls ask their mothers before they start wearing hijab and a lot of new Muslims ask this question when they embrace Islam later in life. That's why I created this video to help you figure out if you're ready to wear hijab as a Muslim woman.
In this video, I will take about what hijab is, when we are supposed to start wearing one, how we are supposed to know when we are ready to take that step and of course I am going to share with you my personal experience on when I knew I was ready to start wearing hijab.

Asalamualaykum Cemile. I read this comment and wanted to reply because I want you to know that you are not alone. First off, you are not a failure. Hijab is ONE requirement of Islam, but that doesn't mean you don't fulfill any other requirements. You are probably a better Muslim than you think you are! I am 42, so not much different in age than you, and I JUST started wearing hijab. That doesn't mean that I didn't practice Islam at all before the hijab!! I just means I never wore hijab. So don't beat yourself up and know that it's never too late to start. I myself am struggling because I care a lot about how I look (don't we all?") and don't always get the hijab styled in a convenient and nice looking way that won't fall off through the day. So I get discouraged. But deep down I know this is right, and I will keep trying my best. Also, I JUST started praying 5 times a day this past year. At one point, I never though i could manage that. I would pray maybe once a day for about a year. But then slowly, Allah made it easy to pray more and more and I got up to 5 Alhmadullilah. Allah makes Islam easy for those who are sincere. I know you can do this!! Be brave and remember that Islam is for our protection as women. :)

"What is scarier than change is to be stuck in a place that you don't belong". That is really deep. Why is it scary? Could be because you might not even realize that you need to change, you get stuck in this cycle, inhibiting you from reaching your full potential. In other words, staying in a place that you don't belong in is scary since it can seem so harmless yet it's consequences can last a lifetime. May Allah (SWT) bless you for sharing this.

When I told my sister and mom I was going to take my shahada and become a muslim. First thing my sister said in shock was “are you then going to start wear a hijab all the time and everything” It isn’t easy for us reverts at all to start wearing it all the time right away.

This was so helpful I’ve currently been struggling as a revert because I’m constantly critiquing the way I look in a hijab and I’m also constantly worried about what my family will say as the only Muslim In the family.

Thank you for posting this video...I was born into a Muslim family but only recently starting wearing the headscarf at 41 years old. I wore it part-time then stopped wearing it. I actually have done many of the things you suggest...I bought an entire collection of hijabs in my favorite colors, I experimented with styles, and started wearing it to the grocery store. I also watched a ton of "why hijab" and hijab tutorial videos over the course of this past year. I found that people started respecting me more, which was so nice. But my stepmother would mock me and I could sense that she was thinking..."so you really think you are better than me?" However, I got discouraged because I have severe OCD that I actually take medication for, and I couldn't always get the hijab to "look right." I feel so much frustration over not remembering how to put it on a certain way, not being able to replicate styles that I'd already tried...that I just gave up. I really need some comfort right now. Islam is very important to me but so is fashion and looking nice, but I have OCD and if I can't get it to look nice, I get discouraged about wearing it. Do you have any suggestions?
How would you feel about khimar? It just hangs a certain way, so it's not something that requires a lot of styling which might help you
Although I'm not a professional myself but have you tried keeping one style at all times. When you change styles often it is quite overwhelming and you often don't get it right. So I would suggest to pick one style which is the easiest and works for every event.

Hello sister! It sounds like you’re already a Muslim by the way you act and write and behave as a person! You sound ready for shahada and you should take it as soon as you can because it will definitely make you even closer to Allah and help you in your journey in figuring things out. Sister always take the shahada first. You don‘t need a witness, you don’t need to go to a mosque, you can do it by yourself and it counts inshallah.
You are such a beautiful woman and so proud of your journey. I converted 35 years ago but only wear hijab while over seas my family are Christian and constantly remind me I’m going to hell because of my choice but you’ve given me strength to move forward thank you😊
That awful! telling you that you will burn is ABUSE, that not a loving family not only they are gaslighting you, but they go against the bible .it literally written that it not people place to condemn only the creator!
why do still bother to go that far to be told that you are destined to be below and torture, every time you visit them!? Wha they are doing goes again every holy book of the Abrahamic religion even pagan religion don't do this. Put some boundaries and stand up for yourself that you won't accepted to be talk down that way (really gross that they think so low of you that they threaten you with hell) or cut them off completely.

I am 11 years old, which is not info I would usually share but I want to share my experience.
I'm in an atheist family that is always making fun of religion. Once my dad even said that the no. 1 thing he wanted me NOT to do when I grow up was to join a religion, but now I'm considering Islam. The hijab is the one thing holding me back because I have no idea what my parents will think.
Can I just say, that is very brave of you at such a young age. I’m 24 and still nervous to express my beliefs around my family. I also grew up in an atheist family and grew up hearing my mother make fun of religion as a whole all the time. I didn’t start thinking for myself about it until I was about 20. So you at 11 thinking for yourself, about such a deep topic, is awesome 🙏
Don't let the hijab part hold you back. If you feel certainty that Islam is the truth, then you should take your Shahada. You do not need to practice perfectly at first, especially in your case. As long as you do your best to follow what you can, Inshallah you will be rewarded for your efforts.
i advise you to wait a little longer as you are so young and wearing a hijab for you means opposing your parents. you can still be a good muslim without wearing a hijab. my advise as a fellow muslim sister would be to wait till you are independent.
I am 13 and it wont stop me and just remember Allah is with you and he will look after you and don't be scared JUST EXPRESS YOUR RELIGION! may Allah help you and protect you!

I love that you made this video and talked about some of the insecurities surrounding hijab as a revert. I’m exploring Islam seriously with the support of my partner who is a Muslim, and I’ve taken a big interest with hijab and think it’s such a lovely practice, but I struggle with feeling nervous that people will judge me as a white woman or think I’m culturally appropriating by wearing it. I have a whole collection of them already and feel comfortable and beautiful when I practice putting them on at home, but I can’t get myself to fully go hijabi in public since I live in the Midwestern US and this area is not the most compassionate towards Muslims. Inshallah I will get my confidence soon and will stop thinking about what others will think or how they will react.

I’m having trouble dressing myself let alone the hijab…. I used to wear a tshirt and pants like every day… now I don’t know what to wear…. How baggy are the clothes supposed to be? What exactly is ok and what is not…. Like it can be overwhelming.
I know your comment is a little old but I just wanted to say that It's ok to have such a dilemma . Even I often have it despite living in a Muslim country surrounded by Muslim people. One thing I'd recommend is to research the requirements on your own and see what exactly are the requirements given by Allah Almighty instead of what people think is right. But basically u should choose clothes which don't highlight your figure. I have loose sweatshirts and pants(which aren't tight) for that. I also wear shalwar kameez and dresses
Oh and even after all this time hijab is something I haven't been keeping up regularly. I'm planning on wearing it properly now which is why i was watching the vid. May Allah make it easier for me
I’d love to know more about the Qur’an says about hijab and what the benefits are more specifically. Also, what is it that Allah wants women to achieve through hijab?
I’m fascinated by Islam.
Hijab is a symbol of modesty in islam. The requirements are different for both men and women . Aside from the clothing , men are told to lower their gaze whenever talking to a woman and women are instructed to water a head covering. Both is done to ensure respect and modesty between the two genders
very, VERY simply, hijab is worn for modesty. however, there are other benefits to why hijabis wear hijab:
•to protect her awrah. which basically means that she will be seen for her intellect, personality, and self before her outward appearance.
•to become closer to god. a hijabi is connected to god through her practices, and this is just one of many religious practices that help her to connect. think of how catholics pray the rosary, or how christians take communion. its the same idea.
•the idea of veiling is common in many religions! christianity and judaism being two very common examples. for me, im more “spiritual”, maybe what you might consider witchcraft, and i occasionally veil to cover my crown chakra to retain my spiritual energy and feel spiritually stronger and more resilient. i heave heard from my hijabi friends that they feel similarly by wearing hijab.
any hijabis please feel free to correct me! but this is what i have heard from my hijabi friends and also through reading the qur’an. ❤

thank you for this video, i have been very interested in islam and the hijab lately. im 14 and want to convert to islam but i just dont know if i can commit just yet. i think i understand and know alot about islam but preforming salah is something i need to know. even though i am an athiest, i love the hijab and would like to wear it because it not only makes me feel beautiful but protected also😄. sometimes i practice hijab styles in the mirror with a scarf and i feel so complete. i love you and your content Veronica and your smile is pretty Masha'Allah (forgive idk if im allowed to say that)
If you believe in god you're not an athiest. You can take your shahada in private and still learn. An athiest goes straight to hell. Do if you're not. Please say your shahada❤

I'm not Muslim, but live in a Muslim majority country. Around me, many girls start to wear it the January 01 of the year they will turn 16. It seems helpful to do it all together and have less attention on themselves for that 'decision day'.

Have you ever tried the ready to wear/ instant hijabs that have the inner cap and scarf attached? Since I'm new to the hijab, should I start with these?

I have tried them when I was younger. One of their biggest advantages is that it doesn't take long to wear it. Usually people go for styling a hijab and if some day you're running late, u don't put it on it breaks the habit. So even if u want to style your hijab on your own I would recommend to have a ready to wear one too for busy days.
I know this struggle 😢 I practice off n on - but also I feel that imposter syndrome thing since I don’t know a lot. I also fear I’ll find things out that prove me wrong just like with Judaism and Christianity and I an so afraid of it breaking my heart again. Ive been searching for years and I am tired. I pray please Allah it is not disrespectful to wear hijab when I have these fears.

But my husband is not happy about it. He is from proper muslim family all of his sisters and nieces wear hijab and even niqab. He explained it that they live in UAE and its islam country. He says me practice your religion, don't show to people your identity, and don't irritate them

Your hijab is an act of worship, your husband is the wrong for trying to pull you away from Islam. As a wife you don't have to listen to him if his requests go against Islam and make you compromise your values. Stay firm in your beliefs because at the end of the day all of us will only be answering to Allah swt.
Try explaining him, clear his doubts about Islam, start thinking logically, you wearing hijab can be motivation and promotion to other muslims and non-mulims

I kind of feel the same about it but it's more about people near where I live cuz there's almost no Muslim but we have to remember that the most important thing is pleasing Allah, he is our creator and told us to do it.. Imagine if on the day of jugement Allah asks us why we didn't wear it and our answer is " I was scared of people's opinion "? Does that mean that Allah's opinion is less valuable? It's not okay... I don't know about how it is going for you but try to hide your hair and dress modestly as much a possible. InshaAllah we'll wear it as soon as possible!!

No you don't have to. You can even do it by yourself, if you want to be a Muslim go for it because tomorrow is not promised
i am currently 12 years old, and i just started wearing the hijab for about 35 days now. everyday i am hesitated to continue because my eniviroment is all non-hijabis, i always feel like im the odd one out and the weird one many people told me im too young and that i should wait,but i love the idea of the hijab and i want to make allah proud of me ive already hit the age of puberty but i dont know weather to take it off or continue can someone please help me?
I think if you feel like you’re doing the right thing, let go of what everyone else thinks. I wish I had the courage to put it on earlier on like you. Do what you think is right and what makes Allah SWT happy. Ask him to guide you and help strengthen your Iman. It’ll help you tune out people’s opinions which ultimately don’t matter. Good luck!

I just wanted to ask....i have been watching videos about hijab many scholars say u have to wear a coat as well and dont wear makeup over it...becaz it attracts people....does covering head and chest and wearing loose clothes not enough?can anyone guide over it?

This is not hate. I am not trying to spread hate but as a fellow Muslim I just want to point out that every small step is good, but we should acknowledge that if we are expressing our beauty even after "hijab" and we think that the headscarf is enough, then we're wrong. The hijab is about not letting people see your beauty unless they're allowed to see it, that's my way of paraphrasing but something similar is written in the Qur'an. We can't be doing anything that will catch people's attention in public in that kind of way where they are attracted to us because of our appearance, if we wear hijab in public and that happens, it defeats the purpose of hijab.
I hear you but I think you're focusing on the wrong things. With all due respect you have no authority to dictate when someone's hijab is invalidated. I show up to inspire young women to embrace hijab, successfully so, and I lost count of messages I receive from women being thankful for such relatable and easy to understand content that helped them put their hijab on. This is positive influence that brings women closer to Islam. You can do what's right for you and I will continue to create a positive impact for Muslim women with the help of Allah swt.
@@VeronikaEdali I really really appreciate what you're doing and I pray that Allah blesses you with the highest level of Jannah, and I believe that I have no authority to say when someone's hijab is invalidated, only Allah knows that, but unless I'm interpreting the Qur'an wrong, if we do anything that is able to attract the opposite gender in public in a way that can be hidden but we choose not to hide it, it's wrong. When I say that, I am not thinking of one specific person, that's just what I've learned in general and from personal experiences. Like I said, every small step is good, but seeing so many Muslim women behaving in an attractive manner online, even if their intentions are good, it's not good for the people watching, especially if the viewers are of the opposite gender. I hope you understand where I'm coming from. If I make any mistakes I appreciate being told that I'm wrong and I hope I can do better, but I really think that if Muhammad SAW was here today he wouldn't want women doing things on the internet that expose their beauty in a certain way.
@@princepscretaceus1046 I know this is a very old comment, but I'd like to point out a different perspective to anyone else reading this that what another person finds attractive is very subjective and dependent on the person. Take this with a grain of salt or leave it, but it is my understanding that not dressing to attract attention from the opposite sex is a matter of the person's intent when he or she is getting dressed. For example, if there is a man and a woman knows that he likes a certain color, and she wears that color on purpose to get his attention versus a woman wearing the same color simply because she thinks it's a pleasant color regardless of what anyone else thinks. It's not that there's anything wrong with that color in and of itself, it's her intent when putting it on. As the hadith says, "deeds are only by intentions." And in the Quran, we are told to dress well. (7:31) Or say smiling. Smiling to be pleasant is a form of charity. Smiling to flirt with someone you aren't married to- not so much. So, all things being equal as far as following guidelines for looseness of clothing and coverage, it's not whether or not something can attract, it's whether or not your intention is to attract.

Soooo i have a question, I'm a muslimah, anddd I know im mentaly/emotionaly ready to wear the hijab, I know its an obligation but there are some factors lets say things I do that I assume I should stop before wearing the hijab. So stuff like cursing or playing videogames, listening to music, hanging out with people who arent muslim or were born muslim but dont pray and drink and eat pork and stuff but none of that affects me technicaly, so, now, i spoke to a friend of mine and he said its not said nowhere that women HAVE to wear it and will end up in hell if they dont, but theres so many things to be fixed before you start wearing it, as well as my parents, but then some people that have learnt the Quran already have told me that its fine and its better to just start wearing it and then slowly work ur way to fixing everything cuz no one is perfect and you cant stop everything at the same time right away bcz thatll just bring u to the overworking urself mentaly and youd want to just take it off cuz its hard to do so much and all of a sudden none of it. Whats ur opinion on this, is it possible to know?

It should be up to individuals to wear this. In Holy Quran, Mohammad asked women to cover their breast area by wearing a scarf around the neck. Hijab was about the Whole Decency not a Taboo Head Scarf. This was changed by men who wanted to control women later as a total cover Taboo Scarf covering the whole head and neck. In 1980, Muslim women around the world were forced to start wearing a Taboo head scarf by many Muslim governments connected to USA. Iran, Turkey, Malaysia, Egypt and Lebanon were some of the countries not wearing any head scarf in cities before 1980. Muslim women in countries connected to Russia were free after 1980 to continue without a Taboo head scarf. Some may wear a small decorative wrap showing some hair. USA wanted to disable Muslim population by labelling their women with a Taboo head scarf around the world to isolate them from the world population. Millions of educated Muslim women with careers kept their religion without wearing an American forced Taboo Head scarf before 1980. 1000 Muslim women were killed in Iran in 2023 asking for their right not to wear a forced scarf as a sign of discrimination. We are all equal in the eyes of God. Don't let corrupt governments force you to accept discrimination. Intelligent women can decide what to wear without being forced by men.
