      @@user-ec9yu1ep2j not sure about you, but I could consider this car, but for comfort, not the hyperscreen. I would not pay extra for that. Notice it even is laggy, that will grow old real fast. But it for sure is a trend, but not sure it is what people want, might go down the same way as 3D tv.
      Tesla screens are better because they are responsive and the functions makes sense. In german cars they do not.
      sure I know some like to have light everywhere, personally I think volvo does light better since it’s passive - you don’t see the source of the light. That’s much more pleasant (to me)

  • @seybertooth9282

    So many negative people in this comment section. When car companies build cars that looks like all others you cry about how "boring" it is, then they do something radical and different and you whine that it's ugly? I salute Mercedes for having the balls do to something that stands out in a sea of lookalikes.
    Also, why do so many people form an absolute opinion based on a youtube video? You really need to see a car in real life and at the very least sit in it (preferably drive it, of course) in order to form even a tentative opinion. Reviews like this one is informative and fun, but you have to be really dense to judge a car based on a video.

    The front passenger really does not need an additional media screen when the centre one is that big! I think the normal non-hyperscreen layout has not only a better design that fits the interior shapes more but is also easier to digest visually when you're driving because of the traditional shapes.
    Audi's latest screens are also all touch and I really hope they reintroduce the knobs (with the great tactile feedback they're known for) because this higher than steering wheel position in the Audi/lower than steering wheel position in the Mercedes cars is really not ideal for interacting while driving.

    There should be a law to prohibit removing buttons and replacing them with touchscreens. It's more dangerous than using mobile while driving. capacitive buttons are so dangerous, they don't give feedback, freeze, and with time they react to static electricity differently and gives false clicks. Touch screens on the other hand forces the driver to make a lot of gestures that will 100% distract the drivers.

    As a Tesla owner now considering the EQS, I completely agree with the host on the redundancies of the 3 “hyper” screen setup. The simple no frill info display on one center screen in the Tesla is all I need. The ignition button is also unnecessary, when in the Tesla I just get in the car, put it in drive and off it goes.

    The problem with touchscreen buttons/functions is that you need familiarity of placement when driving so it doesn’t distract you. Touchscreens change positions of buttons depending on which function you’re accessing but it’s still in the same space so you’re having to remember multiple positions in the same space if that makes sense!

    I could understand if Mercedes charges one time fee for a specific hardware feature. But from what I understand, they plan to set a subscription plan for this rear wheel steering... Is that even legal? How can they justify a monthly fee for a hardware feature already present in the car? Aren't you supposed to own the car when you buy it?

    • @ZKITPO

      Well the wheel steering 10 degrees is optional (not for the EQS 580 where it is mandatory) and the 4,5 degrees is mandatory. So you can buy afterwards the 10degrees option.

    the 10degree software unlock for the rear steering seems like a gimmick for a "S" class, which should already be including the latest and greatest, so it shouldn't be charging these type of customers. I could see this more on the A or C class.

    • @AI-qd4vb
      @AI-qd4vb 2 года назад

      Unlike software, which you license, cars you actually own. You have all the rights in the world to modify or unlock any hidden feature on your car. They will just have no legal standpoint to enforce or protect this policy against aftermarket mods, which I think would flourish under this circumstances.
      With all of this said, who do you think will be more bothered to look for after market solutions instead of just paying Merc for the unlock? One one hand we have a client who just paid 100k+ dollars/euros/whatever for a car and on the other we have middle class clients that will hardly pass the 50k barrier. An A or C class buyer will have more of a reason to go for a more economical solution.
      Truth be told, S-Class Mercedes have always kinda been money suckers out of rich guys pockets. They're always very advanced pieces of engineering, with probably the most hi-tech, abundant and luxurios, collection of optional features. If not milimetrically maintained, they tend to go really awry, yet their clients know outside of MB you will not get the same tech or comfort. Most people either pour a lot of money to mantain them in top form or they sell and buy new ones. Its just the perfect strategy to squeeze the upper class as much as they can.

So you are paying for a feature twice.

    Very nice review and I have to admit, your clothes gray in gray fit nicely. For me the EQs from Mercedes have too much of a "Christmas tree and festive lighting* appearance. It looks nice in a review video during the night, but I am not sure if I want that "Hongkong - Las Vegas Neon-lit" style all the times during night driving in the car. It's rather disturbing but as long as I can switch off some of the blinking and moving light strips, it's ok.

    Having 3 outdated tablets extra in your car is so pointless.

    • @AOTanoos22
      @AOTanoos22 3 года назад +3

      wdym by outdated ? Its a tablet from 2017 from Samsungs automotive division, certified and stress tested with all approvals. Every certified car product is based on a consumer product, gets tuned with a different battery, chiplet etc. to fulfill automotive standards, then gets extensively tested and certified by commissions and only then is available for car companies to use. This process takes years and on top of that the development of the car takes at least 5 years so you have to design and choose the technology years before the car is available to buy. I don't get how people claim its an outdated tablet, MKBHD has no clue about cars, if it wasn't for him no one would have noticed anyways.

      Tech = software. The software on this car is typical legacy automotive quality on big screens. Big screen does not equal tech. These people will not update their software on a schedule like silicon valley tech companies that people are used to in phones ala apple/google. In cars, only tesla has the tech mindset of software first, like it or not.

    • @tzarcoal1018
      @tzarcoal1018 3 года назад

      @@peterchon1179 have you seen the video??
      I don't see how that is so different that what Tesla is offering, the difference is in design, Tesla has modern Flat Design, Mercedes not. But that is just the surface, they could if they want to switch to a flat design, they don't want to.
      The System behind it is plenty powerful it has 24GB of RAM and eight cores.
      When it comes to updates even VW is updating the software now Over The Air, Mercedes has done smaller improvements already over updates in the past, with this car, the possibilities of updates are much more extended than in previous models.

    • @peterchon1179
      @peterchon1179 2 года назад

      @@tzarcoal1018 Yup, I see a big map for navigation and apple carplay. Its literally what all other legacy auto makers have, including on 7 inch screens. Who cares if it has 24 gigs of ram? Thats just listing the spec sheet just bragging about bigger screens. The software is even worse on VW. Have you seen how incredibly glitchy and laggy all the id software is? Its a joke. And Benz has been able to do over the air updates supposedly for a few years now yet they don't actually push any updates. Lets see what kind of schedule VW actually pushes out software updates. Its a completley different mindset that clearly these legacy auto makers don't want to deal with.... On the other hand, Tesla is a silicon valley, software first tech company that has been doing over the air updates since 2012. Also, all over the air updates are not the same. The software stack in these legacy automakers are highly third party dependent and they can't update firmware level features (like how Tesla can change the braking dynamics of the car from an update). They will be limited to superficial things like maps. Lets see if they can prove me wrong.

    • @tzarcoal1018
      @tzarcoal1018 2 года назад

      @@peterchon1179 I would argue they are moving in the right direction and you underestimate them...but from a mindset perspective Tesla is ahead that is for sure. But all the latest Gen EV from VW, Mercedes Benz and all are OTA capable "to the core", meaning changes that affect the BMS, the Motor etc....not just new icons on a map as you wrote.
      The only example of that, that i know right now is the increase in peak charging power in the ID.3 small battery version, but i am pretty sure that the bigger Battery Model of the ID 3/4 will get a charging curve update.
      The UI has gotten a lot more usable compared to a year ago. Pretty smooth ( you are absolutely right, the half baked software they released the car with was nothing but a joke)
      I think your viewpoint is a bit too dogmatic and oversimplified, the legacy makers have realized that they have fallen behind and need to put a bigger focus on software.

      That’s why Mercedes is still selling the normal S-Class. They can go and buy a normal S-class. This car is clearly targeting a much younger target market and more driver experience focused (as opposed to sitting in the back - more comfortable sitting in the back of a normal S Class).

    The main benefits to car manufacturers for building a car with all the options and then requiring them to be enabled via software are (1) cost reduction since all vehicles are built with the same parts and (2) they can now “remove” the options when a leased vehicle is returned or a trade in is accepted by a dealer and charge a new customer to enable those options.
