3:08 Who cares about the story in a platformer game?!?!? The past Spyro games weren’t necessarily known for their great plots either, most platformer games don’t have good stories. We don’t need to spend so much time discussing the plot of a platform game, unless it’s REALLY good. What matters most to me in ANY platformer is how is the gameplay? Narrative and backstory takes a back seat in most platformers.
I remember just watching the trailer for this game of crash twinsanity and always wondering,' Who's this Spyro character', and I'd just turn on my console and just watch the trailer for hours. Ahh nostalgic
You're absolutely right about this despite it being one of my favorite Spyro games and here's why? 1) The graphics: I think they still hold up today. It could almost pass for a PS3 game 2) Regular gems not being required for 100%: This one is debatable but I always find it stressful to find that last gem (especially in Season of Ice and Spyro 1, the rest of the games are fine because they're either too easy or you have the option to use Sparx as a gem compass) 3) Having the option to attack NPC'S, especially Moneybags 4) Moneybags actually sells useful items for once, instead of blocking your path with his gem micro transactions 5) Hunter being playable instead of making you do useless missions 6) Red is one of my favorite Spyro villains. To answer your question from earlier, he's evil because the dragon elders outcasted him. That's good enough backstory to me. And we still don't know why Ripto hates dragons so much. Red also reminds me of Bowser for some reason. 7) The return of Gnasty Gnorc 8) Sgt Byrd doesn't control like rotten ass like in Spyro 3 9) You may disagree with me on this one but Spyro's hamster ball is better than Crash's because it has turbo, brakes, and you can jump. Hell, I think it's better than Mario's hamster ball from the Mario Galaxy games (because screw motion controls) 10) I actually don't mind pressing Square to flame because it feels natural to me because I started out with Season of Flame because B button and Square button are in the same position 11) The elemental breaths: with Ice being my favorite because freeze then charging kills enemies in a split second 12) I don't mind the double jump 13) I like this game better than Twinsanity because the game let's you leave levels, even if you don't feel like completing them. That and because Spyro can withstand explosives, unlike Crash with the Nitro crates, "My duty is to protect you" my ass Now here are things I hate about this game: 1) Bosses aren't replayable 2) The games needs more side missions like the older titles 3) Blink is just a card board cut out of Agent 9 (I'll give them credit, at least Blink controls better than Agent 9 from OG Spyro 3) 4) They should've added two more Hunter levels 5) Fuck the robot gnorcs, especially the green one that snipes you 6) Moneybags never shuts up about "If you have money to spend" 7) Having to repeat a side mission twice just to get a light gem 8) Super charge doesn't feel natural. In the originals, I was able to charge super fast at Sonic/The Flash speed, super charging and jumping to get massive air time felt good. But here, Spyro charges like he's high on Redbull lol 9) No Super Fly power up (My guess is that it would defeat the entire purpose of Sgt Byrd) 10) No epilogue level like in the original trilogy 11) The 100% award sucks, there is none. You know what would've been cool, playing as Sgt Byrd and flying around the map 12) Ember? Why not Elora?? 13) The value of the gems are different (I guess there was inflation in the Spyro universe lol) 14) Don't buy the gem multiplier, it's a waste. It should've been a power up that enemies dropped 15) Lava, quick sand, and toxic waste kill you instead of take away health 16) You have unlimited lives 17) Spyro doesn't skate on ice like he does in the originals 18) Where's Ripto?? This game could've been Spyro's Crash Twinsanity, and if Red hates Ripto too, then it would explain why Ripto hates dragons so much Other than that, I still play this game over Mario Sunshine because the game isn't that difficult. I used to have this game for the PS2 but my parents ended up giving it along with all my PS2 and N64 games to my cousins in South America (I won't dox my nationality). But thankfully I still have my Wii so maybe I'll rebuy it for GameCube for backwards compatibility. I tried emulating it with Dolphin but it runs like ass 😅.
Unlimited lives is a good thing, in my opinion. The lives system in general is something I always hated, and it pretty much single handedly killed my interest in games like Sonic Mania and the Crash Bandicoot games.
@DaSheepKiller I get that most games these days don't use a lives system, but it ruins the challenge for me. I think what would've been better would be, if you fall in a pit, lava, toxic waste, etc, you lose health. Lose all your health and it's back to square one
Honestly, the best part of the video was when you said that Wrath of Cortex was decent, i never understood why so many people hate that game to death, i always thought of that game as a decent follow up to the PS1 trilogy. And i personally consider this Spyro to be my favorite one, even if Blink has the worst gameplay of any game in the series.
It's probably the Xbox 360's backwards compatibility. But still, I played the PS2 version and I don't recall seeing the little flickering in the background or the dialogue box looking that rough. Areas not being loaded was still an occasional issue
This was my first Spyro game, and I love it. It is definitely underrated. Bro, they literally mention dark gems in the beginning of the game lmao Also I'm glad I'm not the only one who coined "Year of the Dragon Syndrome," though I mostly just use that for extra playable characters as opposed to minigames in general.
3 mins in and im realising if you didnt play the game as a kid and didnt care about all these questions you might not enjoy it now This game was everything for me when i was like 9-10 years old
Hey torran2glitchy, loved the Spyro review! But just like the Crash one.. maybe slow down on the vehicles talk? It's kinda overwhelming. How about one ride per level to change things? Don't wanna see the channel crumble, ya know? Keep it up

Yeah I’m always gonna disagree on the critique of minigames that Year of the dragon gets. Played it since I was a kid and I LOVED IT, so exciting to play as other characters and in vehicles.
Once you collect everything, you can access not only extra skins however a ‘bonus’ ending rather than the abruptness. Essentially, the screen pans out to be revealed the credits were being played upon a small TV every elder is gathered around, essentially making comments and ‘humorous’ lines. At some point an elder turns off the TV, and the last thing you see is him pressing the remote’s button and the old TV’s turn-off.
I remember playing this game only once forever ago and kinda wanna do it again. I thought it was okay overall but way too far removed from what made Spyro good and unique. Some of the jokes were funny. I really really don't like how Spyro looks from the front.
Good review! I actually agree 100% here. I enjoyed this game and Wrath of Cortex as well. Both are decent games, but are just missing something that made the original games great! A Hero's Tail does honestly feel a bit generic compared to Insomniac's games, but it isn't bad...except for the Blink levels. I always dreaded the Blink levels and they just felt like needless padding. They are probably the reason I will never go back to play this game. One thing is that Hero's Tail soundtrack is amazing! It ranks as one of my favorite video game soundtracks. The soundtrack might even be _too_ good for this game. 😅
when it comes to the graphical glitches i think it boils down to you playing this on, i assume at least, an emulator and considering your playing the og xbox version that emulator is notorious for not being very reliable. in my exp with AHT the best version is the ps2 version. i do agree tho that the minigames almost felt like an after thought with how extremely simple they are. tho some are just bs for various reasons. the shooter minigame i hate the most personally is the saving the turtle one cause of how fast the red meter goes up if you let even a single turtle get taken away. as much as i want to complete this game its just not worth it unless your someone who truly wants to complete every single game that ever exists. i love achievement hunting but AHT is one of the few games where i throw in the towel after geting roughly 90% of the game completed. which sucks cause it means that i miss out on unlocking the model viewer cause that ends up being the last extra unlockable i need. yea you can unlock the minigames to replay them but idk a single person who was like "oh boy i cant wait to play this again whenever i want!". at the end of the day i love the cheesiness and campiness of this game. and honestly if it were to ever get the remake treatmeant i would 1000% trust toys for bob to handle it since they did a fantastic job remaking the original trilogy imo.
All the issues you experienced were due to the backwards compatibility. I've played every version and I've only experienced issues that severe when playing the game on the Xbox 360. It had frequent graphical bugs, freezing issues the more complete your game was, and the worst I found was when the start menu would change colors. I had to memorize how to save my game because the menus defaulted to this awful cyan. I couldn't read anything. I just stick with the gamecube port, it's leagues more stable.
I have been recently playing this game and i thought it was quite good, and i used to disagree on some of the things you said about Blink, i originally thought the controls weren't bad, but the level design was dogshit...well until now. Yesterday i was playing the final Blink level to get a Light Gem, i was close to finishing it as i only had 2 Dark Gems to break but then i died and accidentally quit the level, and i had to redo it all over again, and because i was a bit tired, i decided to quit the game for that day. So today i came back trying to get that Light Gem and probably finish the game only to find out...the save data was corrupted. What probably happened is that the game was autosaving while i quit the game because of Blink's shitty level design. To say this pissed me off is an understatement, especially considering i was very close to completing the entire game. I still think AHT is good but thanks to Blink i probably dislike it a bit more than i used to, hell i now probably dislike Blink even more than the Sparx levels which in my opinion were originally the worst part of the game. So yeah like you said, fuck you Blink. Edit: So i have been replaying AHT on PCSX2, i used to play it on Dolphin which wasn't bad but i think PCSX2 is better because it warns you to not quit the game when it's autosaving which after what happened definitely helped a lot, not to mention that you can also pick up from where you left off and skip all the intro logos and loading screens which also helped me a lot. And today i finally finished that fucking level and at the moment i am very close to finishing the entire game. Edit 2: I have finally finished the game, overall i still stand by what i said, it's a good game, i just wish there was one more Hunter section, still 8.5/10.

I did find it amusing how Moneybags would offer to “relieve me of the burden” and end up talking over himself and every other NPC in the game
You forgot one very important con
The game had a tendency to corrupt your saves constantly
@@eatanotherzio6811 On which version? Because I played it on PS2 and never had that issue

I liked Spyro A Hero’s Tail
No it wasn’t bad yet not enough effort
And not enough creativity
for starters the Dragon Elders
That taught Spyro
Horn Dive And Wing Sheild
Was Cool and Acceptable
But the Dragon Elders
That taught Spyro
Pole Spin and Wall Kick
Uncool and Unacceptable
Why Dude They Are Dragons They have Wings
They gave Spyro spikes yet they denied to give
Spyro His Ability To FLY anytime any level and
an opportunity for the Fairies to Level Up Spyro’s
Free Flight Ability has been mist
And why did they even bother giving
The Dragon Elders ears while
Spyro Ember and Flame don’t have
ears What’s Up With That ?
I find it frustrating that Elora and Bianca
wasn’t included in A Hero’s Tail Another
Mist Opportunity they could have been
Playable and it’s been years since Spyro
has seen Elora and sure Gnasty Gnorc
Comeback yet he wasn’t the main
Antagonist and not enough
Challenge terms
Not to mention they’ve made Spyro
and Each Dragon character Chunky
besides Red and Thomas and Titan
And worse they didn’t include the Portals
Spyro was just walking around pathed
Tunnels and elevator based objects and
The teleporters not as thrilling
I take it back A Hero’s Tail Worse
Then Enter The Dragonfly How
could the Developers make
Un-Spired games for Spyro ?
SPYRO 4
Needs to turn out
WAY BETTER
HOPE TO SOAR IN
SPYRO 4
How to Convince
Activision Blizzard
& Toys For Bob ?
dragon eggs unlock costumes and cheats bro, you can even play as ember

Offtopic/unrelated, but i appreciate is that you're not afraid of cursing on RUclips, unlike many other channels.
Refusing to curse would be like rejecting my Australian citizenship

Ah yes. Spyro and Daxter. A hero's Precursor Tail
tip when playing, the mini games are optional to beat the game, I also hated the mini games, lol
