Idk bout everyone else , but Eternal Night is actually one of my FAVORITE Spyro games of all time ..
This game and Ripto's Rage ..
I like how in this game the breath abilities are really cool to use , you get the Convexity (Dark Spyro) ability after completing the game AND you get to slow down time using the Dragon Time ⏳️ability ..
Also the Fury attacks for each element are way better than the Fury attacks in New Beginning ...

I find your criticism of the first games combat a bit confusing. You critique the combat as being repetitive and uninteresting because there is only two combos that us O and jump. You then later go on to describe the variety of ways you could use the elemental breaths. You said you liked the breaths because they kept you from having to engage in combat. That makes no sense the breaths are part of the combat. You are judging the melee strikes which is just one element of the combat system as though it is the primary means of combat. Obviously the melee system isn't going to be as fully fleshed out as a traditional beatemup as it is there to compliment the breath abilities. No hate solid video and I generally agree with your assertions the logic just didn't track for me on that particular point.

Your guesses from the end of A New Beginning are indeed correct. The Legend of Spyro Dawn of the Dragon will make sure to wrap it up if you want to find out about the Dark Master and it's also the better game in the trilogy

There’s actually a different version of this game in 2d for the gameboy advance and I find it far better than this one

I recently bought Enteral Night for my Wii just for shits n giggles back in March. I've played it back in 2008 on my PS2, so I know what to expect (a friend on the school bus let me barrow it). Did I suck at that game back then, yes. Did I suck at that game this year? Not really but I still died many times.
First thing I wanna mention is that the Wii version is compatible with the Classic Wii Controller! Thank [Insert the diety of your choosing] because motion controls are ass for most games.
So Enternal Night has some slight improvements like
    1) The feathers, which I complained about a New Beginning lacking collectables to get for 100% completion
    2) Dragon masks, the red ones upgrade Spyro's health and greens upgrade his stamina. I think it's a welcoming edition to collecting stuff
    3) Separate colored crystals. I wasn't a big fan of the rainbow crystals in a New Beginning because I had to ration them, eventhough I really want to break them for blue gem XP
    4) Unlimited stamina. The green crystals being infinitely breakable means I can abuse it so that I can cheese enemies that take too long to kill with melee attacks
    5) Dragon time. You might hate it but I found it useful for whenever I tan out of elemental stamina
    6) Dragon challenges. Once you beat the game, you unlock Dragon Challenges, which are like combat gauntlets where you face off against a wave of enemies. Some maps disable your elemental breaths and others disable dragon time
    7) Dark Spyro. After beating all the Dragon Challenges. You unlock Dark Spyro, which I think is freaking cool because it makes the game stupid easy 👍👍👍. The dark breath uses less stamina than the normal elements
    8) The breath elements being implemented in the platforming and puzzle solving. Especially the ice breath with its freezing bodies of water. Kinda reminds me of Spyro Season of Flame
Now let's not kid ourselves, this game has flaws that outweigh the positives. Let's mention them:
    1) The game is Dark Souls as hell and it REALLY needed a difficulty setting. Like it just makes me miss how stupid easy A New Beginning is
    2) There are no flying levels or mine cart levels to spice up the campaign
    3) Still no side missions to spice up the gameplay
    4) Still no chapter select screen
    5) There's only like 5 or 6 Dragon Challenges
    6) The game feels short
    7) Last but not least, F*** the gladiator arena in the pirate level. I swear, those scorpions are a female dog to kill. If you don't have a Fury built up, then you're F***ed unless you figured out how to beat them the way the game was intended to. Infact, F*** the rest of the gladiator bosses because the game doesn't have any check points between boss lives, nor does it have crystals to break for health and stamina refill. Sometimes dragon time doesn't help.
After I beat Enternal Night's main campaign and Dragon Challenges, I went back to replay Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and haven't touched Enternal Night ever since. At least 7 Remake got more things right than Enteral Night like:
    1) A difficulty setting of easy, normal, and hard
    2) The combat simulator offers more challenges than Dragon Challenges (with a bonus boss after beating the DLC)
    3) The Corneo cup is more forgiving than the pirate gladiator arena. Like you get a locker room to rest up/change your load out, and a shop to buy items. And the best part, none of the bosses in the arena are as bad as the scorpions

You could imagine my excitement upon receiving this game for Christmas as a kid, as a huge Spyro fan. Then my disappointment whilst playing.

Pretty much nailed it! I played Eternal Night and some of Dawn of the Dragon before the disk broke. When I first played Eternal Night, I felt bored through the whole thing. Honestly, if the breaths weren’t as limited and didn’t run out all the time, the game probably would’ve been more enjoyable. The main problem is that you were basically “forced” to use physical combat more often than breath attacks, and the enemies would swarm you and spam hits before you could do anything. I liked the lore, and I beat the game, but the combat cost me my sanity.
I’ll give you some hope, though. Dawn of the Dragon is not only gorgeous for its time but also pretty fun! Play it with a friend when you do; you can play co-op, and it’s more enjoyable that way.

In my voice of The Legend Of Spyro
A New Beginning / The External Night / Dawn Of The Dragon
Dawn Of The Dragon Is Best Of Them All Finally a Spyro game
Where Spyro can Keep His Ability to Fly Anytime Any Level
    Without Limitations
Hope Activision and Toys For Bob adds in the same idea
In the New SPYRO 4 but With New Rewarding Challenges
Badder Boss Battles And New Upgradeable Qualities That
Should take place in SPYRO 4
And I agree The Eternal Night had too many flaws and lowest
amount of creativity showing more results

Good review! I completely skipped over The Legend of Spyro trilogy, so it is good to hear I haven't really missed anything at least in terms of A New Beginning or Eternal Night. I am very curious if Dawn of the Dragon is any good and, if it is worth playing, if you can just skip to it without really missing anything from the first two games.

Dawn of the Dragon actually is pretty solid as it was done by a different developer and it has more exploration and way better combat and an actual interesting story. Too bad you can only get it via physical copies and they are getting kinda pricey.

I will say the Wii version of this game does look better in the visual department but beyond that the differences are negligible at best.

Off the back of making this video, since I decided to buy a physical copy of Dawn of the Dragon, I decided I may as well get physical copies of the first two. I ended up getting the Wii version of Eternal Night and have beaten it to get complete and better looking footage, but you’re right, it doesn’t look a whole lot better and isn’t worth adapting to motion controls lmao

Eternal night is definitely the worst out of the trilogy, dawn of the dragon is the best by far and is way less boring especially if you use upgrades like you’re supposed to. I’m replaying it rn and it’s very enjoyable! Some of it is clunky but I wish the whole trilogy was made the way dawn of the dragon was.
