Totally agree with you on wanting the carnage. The pressure washer kill was definitely very creative and I was curious what happens if it makes contact with the skin and it’s not pretty so that kill was definitely gonna be the goriest of the movie. I very much enjoy this movie but the PG-13 rating made it a little less enjoyable but I think if it kept the R rating it wouldn’t have been as financially successful as it is cause it’s about to reach $150 million on a $12 million budget. Hoping for those rumors of the unrated version coming to streaming is true.
I can't believe that what I predicted didn't happen in the movie, I didn't know anything about it going in but when I started watching I was so sure that the main character would hire a babysitter or nanny to look after her niece because she didn't want to/know how to parent and she clearly could afford it, and then m3ghan would kill the babysitter as her first kill. But she never hired anyone to watch the kid cause megan just did it, also having the doll parent the kid was kinda stupid imo. I feel like most kids would hate their doll if it kept nagging them to wash their hands and use a coaster.

I really hope they release the director's cut when it gets released on DVD/Bluray. I read an interview talking about how bloody and gory the original cut is which I think would have made the film more of that perfect balance between horror and comedy. I had no idea that the movie was re-edited after the trailer went viral though. I just assumed the gore was cut out due to studio pressure to keep it PG-13 prior to it going viral. I do think they made a smart choice by leaning into the younger demographic because my theater was full of people my age (Gen Z) and we were laughing the entire time, but I do wish they left in the carnage because that would have been great. Some of those kill scenes look like they could have been really cool and you can tell they were filmed showing the entire kill, but they opted to use a cutaway focused on her instead. On the bright side though, this movie has done extremely well and a sequel is greenlit. So, hopefully with the success of the movie they will be unafraid in the next week to go in with the gore and blood a bit more. I'm not sure, but I do hope they will take that note going into the next one.
I went to see it January 8th and I saw it again. Then I seen it 5 times and I absolutely love this movie. ❤ ❤This is a movie that is so more damn good, you have to love the character herself for being, a bit scary, funny and can touch your heart (to make you cry). Unlike most horror icons, M3gan is the perfect example of balancing her personality and the movie (and never tries too hard to be over the top like Chucky and Freddy Krueger or being underrated like Candyman). And the fact that this is a PG 13 which is rare for a killer doll film (normally they would be rated R), but M3gan breaks this tradition and it feel more ground breaking for the horror/sci fi film. It's not all about drugs, sex, gore or vulgar language that most horror flick shouldn't be, it's about balancing the story that makes it work. This mostly was enjoyable to say the least, it was more of a thriller. I just love the character M3gan to bits (hope it's not too late to make her feel good in the sequel to give her a better protocol and to fix an exploding circuit). It's not a scary movie, but M3gan was a cinnamon roll who carried the film until the very end.
I don’t agree with everything here but I respect your comment so it’s fine. The candyman comparison wasn’t totally fair because it’s not his fault he’s underrated 😂 Also other horror icons don’t NEED multiple sides to them. It’s cool to have but not essential. Megan is a mix of child’s play/the terminator. Not a huge doll genre fan but Megan is one my new favs list
It was a good movie. Full of fun, laughter and emotions. I cried with the story with Cady’s parents and Megan singing was my favourite parts and so funny. 7.5/10 movie for me
Don't forget about Akela Cooper who co-wrote this film and Malignant with James Wan. Along with wrote Hell Fest. She is involved with writing the Nun 2 and I think an exciting new voice in horror.
I agree with your perspective here.. only one thing tho, i tend to avoid a lot of the trailers and marketing and I was still somewhat underwhelmed. I mean, i was entertained, it was a decent movie but I wanted to be scared, or for there to be a little tension and i felt like there was none… it was a sunday afternoon kind of movie.. i think it was well shot, fun to watch in that regard and i liked the soundtrack too.. like alot! But it was just meh, but on the lighter side of meh, if that makes any sense. Lol Oh and that hallway dance seen.. it felt really insignificant.. really out of place.. it didnt get much of a reaction in the theatre i was in except tht i heard someone say ‘okaaaay..’ lol which were my thoughts exactly.
Well THATS why the dance scene felt out of place for you because you didn’t watch the trailers (which isn’t wrong) . The scene went viral because I’d the dance! As random as it looked, it wasn’t for no reason. Megan did it to distract the guy into she grabbed a weapon to kill him
It was fine. It has a special place in my heart because I saw it with my son because he wanted to see it and it was his first horror movie in theater. The first one he saw was Scary stories to tell in the dark.
8:30 Thank you! Yes, M3GAN was a good time and I enjoyed the film, but with that said it wasn’t very original and definitely had some problems. The amount of people attacking those who say this is shocking🤦♀️
Yes Megan is very derivative and that’s fine. I ONLY get annoyed by derivative films when they have CRAZY fans that over hype the mess out of it like it’s original. The dance in the trailer gave the movie a huge boost so I already knew it blow up in the box office. I loved Megan, but many of its fans are over hyping it
@@lessismore8533 Exactly!! Some of these fans are actually making me like the movie less. They are so intense with their appreciation that through discussions I started to dissect every little thing that was an issue for me in the movie. At the end of the week I was like hmm, did I actually have fun, or was this just a laughable movie? lol
I think they should release an unedited version or something. I was not impressed with it as a horror movie. Definitely a chill watch. Love your channel! 🙌
I watched it once with my daughter she’s 12 she asked about watching this movie and she liked it I think she will be into horror movies but time will tell and for me I liked it but definitely want to watch it again and see how it goes for second time
I loved your point about the car crash cliche... not sure how that never crossed my mind, it happens so often. Love how, despite your issues with the movie, you still seemed pretty happy with how its been received! I agree with basically all your criticisms, I think I just enjoyed the dark-comedy/social commentary aspect of the film so much I kind of don't mind some of the lack of horror. Think its one of those situations where I didn't mind too much that the plot was predictable, it was just a fun little ride! Looking forward to part 2.
@@Paulxl Yeah true, there definitely has to be a more interesting way to set things up, although I get that "technically" it would probably be the most likely thing to happen.
@@AE-ee6mg Well. I don't think in M3gan that helps. Because the parents are basically completely irrelevant beyond being an absent figure. So. Giving them screen time in other to justify their deaths would have been a waste of time.
I'm excited for the sequel but I agree with most of your points! I really liked the ending it was actually good for me I wasn't expecting that at all however for some people was very predictable
I had a huge gripe with the film for some reason, it was for sure fun and goofy and m3gan as a concept is entertaining, but it definitely could have done with more horror/darker moments in general, I just didn't click with it and didn't feel engaged
i couldn’t enjoy this movie because the aunt was so stupid it killed me. you made a fully autonomous ai doll that’s constantly learning from a child… and you didn’t think it might want to start killing people?! i also really didn’t like the implications of the scene where that boy runs off into the woods with megan.
While I do agree that they should’ve showed more blood and brutality in the movie, I enjoyed the backstory they created for M3GAN. It’s an AI doll that was meant to help Cady. If they make a sequel then they should go all out for the 2nd one with the blood since we already know M3GAN and what she’s capable of. Good video!
I thought it should've leaned into satire more. I wanted to see the aunt getting frustrated over M3GAN's battery drain or how she interfered with other people's WiFi. I thought the movie tried to do too many different things and lacked identity. Either make it more horror or comedy, imo.
I really enjoyed M3GAN. I am curious to see if they ever release the original R rating cut and what difference it would make. There are some moments where you have to wonder if things were reshot to clean them up.
I watched this recently. I didn't hate it, but I also didn't think it was anything special either. One editing decision that I don't understand: All the trailers showed M3GAN's dance in the hallway from start, to when she rips the blade off the papercutter, yet in the movie, they have this really abrupt cut to the boss watching her right in the middle. It's quite jarring and it breaks up the iconic scene. Personally, I think that was a mistake and they should have left the dance scene in full.
I personally dont watch trailers AT ALL before I watch a film. It makes watching the movie more exciting because you really dont know whats next. Trailers always reveal too much
It really wasn‘t scary, mostly goofy so I absolutely agree with everything you had to say about it. The horror was just kinda missing too much, the first thought I had stepping out of the theatre was that it literally didn‘t have enough kills by Megan and just generally gore.
I am in loove with this movie! Every woman remembers her childhood having a favorite doll so it truly brings back a sense of nostalgia and creepy scare! I agree with the lack of gore but it sure sets it up to do that in the sequel! I am sure the creative team have heard this cry and will deliver more next time!
Since they’ve already announced that there will be a Megan 2.0, maybe we will get more gore and violence/ kill scenes of Megan actually doing the deed. We know Megan is still alive in Elsie from the last scene so maybe it will be some fun house malfunction stuff like in the old Disney movie smart house
This was one of the funniest, wildest movies I’ve seen in cinemas in a while. We went with a group of friends and could not stop laughing. I thought M3gan was a solid 7/10, but I really wish in the year 2023 we could do a little research on how social work actually works before putting it in our movies bc the whole “I decide who gets custody” plotline was inaccurate, stupid, and also unnecessary. I will prob give the unrated version an 8, I’m excited to watch it.
It annoyed me that her iconic dance was totally unmotivated- if the ceo had said “come on! we have a show to put on!” And she’d said “oh, I’ll put on a show” then danced and murdered- 10x better
I totally agree that for me personally, I would have preferred more brutality.. but that said, it was fun to take my 10 year old cousin, Megan, to see the movie and not have to really worry about much! She likes scary movies, and to have one with her name in it was just fun in general. I definitely feel like making it more accessible was the right choice for this particular movie
Well it WAS originally rated R to be fair but knowing kids would want too see Megan because she looks like a toy (and will have merchandise) of course kids would want to see it
Thanks for the vid. Apparently, the movie makers don’t have much control over what marketing chooses to release in trailers. That’s sad. I think it was a horror more on the lines of psychological than gore.
im actually really interested by the killer doll genre and i was pretty excited to watch this... so i guess my mistake was having high expectations? i ended up only liking the two main characters, the only ones that felt like real people. i didnt mind much some of the cliches, since it helped to just build the world around gemma and cady, but i definitely agree that most of the side character actors were performing for a silly comedy and the tone shift between their performances and the two leads was jarring. my biggest issue though was how uninspired i found m3gan herself. apart from iconic moments, like her singing and dancing, and some funny looks, shes as boring as they come. she starts out fully devoted to cady, but then decides to be her own owner/primary focus out of seemingly nowhere. her lines seem like that of a cartoon villain and she never really felt scary to me; she was just a killer robot like the terminator, and those moments of killing didnt feel cold-hearted enough or gleeful and ingenious or fun enough to be horrifying or entertaining. she just failed to me as a character, which is a real shame since i feel like her relationship with cady could have been a jumping off point for a lot of interesting discussions that were barely touched upon.
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who hated the acting from the side characters, ESPECIALLY the boss. He made me physically cringe the acting felt so bad.
I was actually hoping this movie would be more self aware and campy, and was hoping for something that didn't take itself too seriously. I was surprised how flimsy the sentimentality of it was, how bland and generic the horror elements were, and worst of all, how PREDICTABLE it was. It was a lot like the Child's Play 2019 remake, which I also didn't like. Mainstream, PG-13 horror really just sucks the fun out of it for me, I find.
Definitely agree with your assessment - I thought the film wasn't sure what tone it wanted to commit to. For me, it wasn't scary enough to be a full-blown horror movie, but it also wasn't funny enough to be a horror-comedy. Would have been better if it had pivoted to one or the other instead of occupying the hinterland between them.
Megan will be one of those horror franchises that the sequel is better cause they don’t have to spend as much time with the set up since that’s basically the whole first movie. They can get right into the new horror
I loved it, personally, even though I can agree with your rating and concerns. But I remember seeing an interview with Jenna Ortega about her dance scene in Wednesday, where she was told before release that 'this scene was going to go viral on tiktok', and it made my skin crawl for all of the wrong reasons, my personal aversion to social media notwithstanding. I understand that movies/tv are a money business, but at the same time, i feel like the decision in M3GAN's case to cut it back BECAUSE of the marketing is what prevented it from being a great film. And while I'm all for horror becoming, as you state, 'more mainstream', I don't like this trend where it's effectively being watered down to become more palatable to the masses. Just my take on things, but personally, I'm looking forward to the unrated version - and hoping to god that future horror releases won't be initially sold with a dance scene.
We now know that there’s gonna be a sequel. This one was a great introduction of Megan, and I hope the creators see what the audience want and make the continuation much more brutal
I think the killing of Cady's parents in the car accident had to happen for thematic reasons, because the Purr-fect pet that Gemma gave Cady is pretty much responsible for distracting the parents so much while driving that it got them killed. It's an echo of the theme of technology run amok that M3GAN represents & it also does a good job of summing up Gemma's cluelessness about parenting before we even meet her.
I really enjoyed it, it was campy and fun, it doesn't take itself too seriously and I think it has a good message and commentary. It can be a bit cringey at times and I understand why people might not like it, also it's definitely not scary at all, but I had a great time tbh
I liked the movie but I agree with you about wanting more horror. Also the side characters, especially the boss. I kept wondering if the acting was intentionally bad lol.
I agree with every single thing you said in this video! I didn't even realised at first it was going to be PG rated (didn't check tbh) but I was disappointed by this because as a horror (that's what I was going to watch, that's what I was thinking about) this movie felt.. flat.. Not much horror about it. Funny and cheesy? Yeah sure. Which was fine and I was prepared for this because of the trailer. But yes, I expected more. And also, the acting! I was so annoyed with the boss's acting. And some others but him most of all. Also SPOILER: There was this scene in the beginning with the therapist being so incredibly judgemental of their relationship when it was like a day that they actually moved in together only a week after everything happened. This was way to quick to make assumptions if you ask me and they could have moved that to later in the movie when the judgement was actually needed like when she left Megan to care for Cady!
I completely agree with your review! I've stopped watching trailers outside of cinemas because they show too much. Megan was underwhelming to me, but that is due to not being surprised by anything. Im currently trying to avoid all ScreamVI trailers. All i know is that it's set in New York, and there's a scene on a subway 😅
Agree with alot of your points. It was good and a Black Mirror episode type concept. But this movie left me wanting more. I felt they missed out stuff to appeal to a younger audience. E.g. there is a build up to The Launch of the M3gan doll and this would have been an opportunity for some real carnage. But instead, the doll just goes after the two main protagonists and it becomes standard horror. 7/10 overall
I can confirm in the rewatchability factor, still fun in a rewatch specially when you take it as what it is. Hope the sequel gets to do more creative deaths as well
The eye makeup in this video!!!!!!!!!! I'm obsessed

I don’t agree with everything here but I respect your comment so it’s fine. The candyman comparison wasn’t totally fair because it’s not his fault he’s underrated 😂
Also other horror icons don’t NEED multiple sides to them. It’s cool to have but not essential. Megan is a mix of child’s play/the terminator.
Not a huge doll genre fan but Megan is one my new favs list
I always appreciate your videos so much!!
Excellent review I really enjoyed this. Thank you very much you’re very talented.
It was a good movie. Full of fun, laughter and emotions. I cried with the story with Cady’s parents and Megan singing was my favourite parts and so funny. 7.5/10 movie for me
The whole theatre broke out laughing at titanium part
@@TreadingtheBorderlands Same with the theatre I was in 😂 That was my favourite part
Don't forget about Akela Cooper who co-wrote this film and Malignant with James Wan. Along with wrote Hell Fest. She is involved with writing the Nun 2 and I think an exciting new voice in horror.
James Gunn? You mean James Wan
@@breastmilkgaming oh yeah I did lol just edited it
I agree with your perspective here.. only one thing tho, i tend to avoid a lot of the trailers and marketing and I was still somewhat underwhelmed.
Megan did it to distract the guy into she grabbed a weapon to kill him
Okay and your eyeshadow look🖤✨💚
this is definitely child’s play 2019 if it slayed
At the end of the week I was like hmm, did I actually have fun, or was this just a laughable movie? lol
Your review is spot on
I think they should release an unedited version or something.
It's a way to kill a character that doesn't really need that much setup. They are in a car or crossing a street and then something happen.
The review I’ve been waiting on lol
Hi Sarah, Can't wait for you to review Skinamarink! Gonna watch it tonight.
It was just ok. Nothing special or inovative. Marketing is the reason why this movie is so popular.
Loved the fit !!
Good video!
There was still room for both extra blood and Megan’s backstory tho
I thought it should've leaned into satire more.
I wanted to see the aunt getting frustrated over M3GAN's battery drain or how she interfered with other people's WiFi.
I thought the movie tried to do too many different things and lacked identity.
Either make it more horror or comedy, imo.
Horror/comedy ISnt new tho. It’s been done before. But if you feel Megan didn’t balance it well I agree
bestie ilysm
I laughed so hard at this movie my cheeks were soaked.
Trailers always reveal too much
Trailers back in the DAY definitely did it better …
I sense that I'm going to enjoy this one. I did love Malignant.
Thanks for your reviews. Always enjoyable!
loved hearing your thoughts on it. Definitely agree with your opinion on the lack of horror lol
This movie feels like a cheap copy of the Child’s Play remake.
I agree with you! It def needed more oomph. There were minimal deaths and def felt like it was for younger teens
Can I just say that I love when you wear that translucent top with that eyeshadow
It annoyed me that her iconic dance was totally unmotivated- if the ceo had said “come on! we have a show to put on!” And she’d said “oh, I’ll put on a show” then danced and murdered- 10x better
well apparently they are doing a more horror version coming out on dvd, blu ray, VOD
I guess it's an R rated cut. I would watch it too.
Well it WAS originally rated R to be fair but knowing kids would want too see Megan because she looks like a toy (and will have merchandise) of course kids would want to see it
You look amazing!!!
Scream 2022 had a fresh January rating
Thanks for the vid. Apparently, the movie makers don’t have much control over what marketing chooses to release in trailers. That’s sad. I think it was a horror more on the lines of psychological than gore.
I've been waiting for you to review this! & your green eye look is STUNNING! So gorgeous.
im actually really interested by the killer doll genre and i was pretty excited to watch this... so i guess my mistake was having high expectations? i ended up only liking the two main characters, the only ones that felt like real people. i didnt mind much some of the cliches, since it helped to just build the world around gemma and cady, but i definitely agree that most of the side character actors were performing for a silly comedy and the tone shift between their performances and the two leads was jarring. my biggest issue though was how uninspired i found m3gan herself. apart from iconic moments, like her singing and dancing, and some funny looks, shes as boring as they come. she starts out fully devoted to cady, but then decides to be her own owner/primary focus out of seemingly nowhere. her lines seem like that of a cartoon villain and she never really felt scary to me; she was just a killer robot like the terminator, and those moments of killing didnt feel cold-hearted enough or gleeful and ingenious or fun enough to be horrifying or entertaining. she just failed to me as a character, which is a real shame since i feel like her relationship with cady could have been a jumping off point for a lot of interesting discussions that were barely touched upon.
Good points
Can you do a video on what you think are some of the most creative horror film deaths?
I was waiting for this oneee lmao
It’s a rated r version coming to streaming with all the cut out gore
Yoooo is see your Midsommar directors cut in the back!! I have the same thing. Thats dope. And I enjoyed megan, shit was gas.
I enjoyed the movie for what it was (as you said; a toned down pg-13 childs play), but I also would have liked some more horror.
When M3GAN started singing Titanium I knew it would be one of my favourite horror movies of 2023
I really enjoyed it, it was campy and fun, it doesn't take itself too seriously and I think it has a good message and commentary. It can be a bit cringey at times and I understand why people might not like it, also it's definitely not scary at all, but I had a great time tbh
I love your Mia Goth make up today, love the video!
The scariest part was the build up where they show a kid being completely tied to an AI in lieu of a parent. Creepy shit.
Also SPOILER:
There was this scene in the beginning with the therapist being so incredibly judgemental of their relationship when it was like a day that they actually moved in together only a week after everything happened. This was way to quick to make assumptions if you ask me and they could have moved that to later in the movie when the judgement was actually needed like when she left Megan to care for Cady!
I loved it! Bring on Evil Dead Rise!
Definitely agree about trailers spoiling most things. That's why I'm not watching the scream 6 trailer.
i’d loveee to see a Megan Directors Cut with the R rating 😩😩
Yes that is my biggest issue with this movie.
One will be coming out!! Plus the sequel in 2025
@@Marcosuser92 that is so exciting thanks for info.
