There are plenty of version of this performance already here, but I wanted to upload the full thing with all the extra Nightwish bits, as I didn't even know this existed until lately. Seems like this one is also missing the Finnish subtitles and all the voting overlays.
Nightwish took part in the Finnish Eurovision Preliminary Contest in 2000.
They performed the track "Sleepwalker" twice: 5.2.2000 at "Hotelli Sointu" TV-program & 12.2.2000 at the Finals. (There could be more performances out there, but I'm fairly confident that they only played it twice)
Even though Nightwish got the most audience votes, they still ended up third overall and Nina Åström was chosen as Finland's Eurovision 2000 contestant.

And actually the artist who was sent to the main ESC didn't win neither one of the votings. Not by judges or not by telephones🙄... So what a joke🙄
@@1981juhis Yeah, a good example why compromising is a bad option. You get a band/song so average that it doesn't make anyone hate it but nobody remembers it either. That's the true spirit of Finland...
@@MikkoRantalainen it was all a rigged vote. I was listening to a radio show where they talked about Käärijäs Liverpool trip, the guy on the show said that the jury had been told not to vote for Nightwish to go to Eurovision, that the head of the jury will not allow them to go there....and he could confirm it. That jury member is now dead, but that's how it all went down.
The best song ever composed for the Eurovision Song Contest unfortunalety never participated. Shame on you Finnish jury. Do also not forget Ninni Poijaervi, the excellent background female vocalist.

I think that was a huge loss for ESC, but for Nightwish it was better that way. They didn't get any stigma for being "an Eurovision act". I love ESC too, but Nightwish is a great and huge band as it is. ❤️
Yeah, probably a good thing for Nightwish themselves in the long run, but such a huge loss for ESC & all Finns, IMO! :(
This was the first time I voted in Finnish Eurovision, and I swore I never vote again...but I had to broke that in 2006, when Lordi was there. With Sleeping Sun they would have had better chance.
I hate eurovision
Yes, this was the very first time I voted in Eurovision too, via the very novel system (back then) of mobile phone voting ;), and when Nighwish didn't actually win, despite winning the public vote, I was so upset I didn't watch Eurovision for years & years after that...
I finally decided to watch the voting and got so shocked by the judges. That's why I can't watch TV music contests. Even if Tarja herself hosts one of the biggest of them, I can't trust everyone involved is truly capable and professional... how could so many people give this a 1?!? Insane.
First time I heard this song i fell inlove instanly and i dont understand why those people voted 1pt or 2.

Wait...what? Nightwish wanted to have a performance in esc ... and couldn´t because of the JURY? Did they take the wrong drugs that night? So, how was it possible with Lordi then???
Because the finnish people got to decide 100% in 2006, had they had juries, Lordi would have suffered the same fate as Nightwish did sadly

I've always loved "Sleepwalker", but certainly I don't think it the right choice for Eurovision. Anyway, Nightwish deserved the win, I'm happy they were huge even without these contest.

Totally idiotic jury and those "wise ones" in there. This song should have won the whole contest. Can one see who those idiots are...giving 1 or 2 instead of 6,6,6,6,6,6,6,6,6,6,6 ? You should shame yourself !

Жаль что в наше время не выступали а так давно . Сейчас просто бы разнесли с Флор и крутым набором песен. + Такие эффекты на сцене мутят , а тут как в 80 годах зал

This is tooo good for Eurovision (Shitty Schlager Pop Contest) and Lordi Won because they were Perfect Kitsch Show Act not serious musicians and yeah i like Hard Rock Hallelujah but come on this song is much much better !
