    The Boss 429 engine was a NASCAR engine detuned in an attempt to work in a street car. With the proper camshaft and carburetor, the were designed to run at 7500+ rpm for hours on end. Most mass produced big block V8s at the time were lucky if their power curve lasted up until 5000 rpm. The Boss 429 was a superspeedway engine, not a drag racing engine.

    Boss 302 was not its predecessor. It ran alongside for a different purpose. From the factory the Boss 351 was faster. Most drag racers of the time preferred the FE 427s over this 429 hemi, until they figured out how to tune them to run.

    I have some of the original road tests of the Boss 429 and, without digging them all out of the collection, I recall one test (High Performance Cars), expressed some reservation about the car's performance. Another test I have in front of me, from July 69 Car Life, recorded 14.09 at 103 mph. Top speed was 118 mph with a 3.91 gear. Also, there was a batch of the 69s produced with the wrong valve springs. I was a Ford nut back then and big into the street racing scene in 69-70. I lived in a relatively muscle car intense area (far west suburban Chicago). I saw a grand total of two Boss nines on the street in those days.

    • @Loulovesspeed
      @Loulovesspeed 3 месяца назад +2

      Actual HP was significantly higher than 375. Remember, this was the time of Detroit posting lower HP ratings to satisfy insurance companies, and an ever increasing involvement of the government. It might have put out 375 at say 5,000 rpm. But at 6,200, it was more like 475. The real drawback for this monster power house was that Ford designed it for NASCAR, and used porting, camshaft, carburetion, etc. to achieve best results at steady, high speed track conditions. That did not translate to ideal dead start acceleration figures. With some relatively minor work, this engine would destroy most anything else on the street!

    The horsepower and torque produced for the same volume of hydrogen fuel would be significantly higher than gasoline in the same internal combustion engine. This is because hydrogen has a much higher energy density than gasoline, so it will produce more power per unit of volume.
    Overall, hydrogen-powered engines have the potential to produce significantly more power than gasoline engines. For example: If the Boss 429 was powered by hydrogen, it would likely produce around 1500 horsepower and 1200 lb-ft of torque. This would make it one of the most powerful engines ever produced.

  • @stonesfan285
    @stonesfan285 4 месяца назад +4

    No rivals? 1969 Camaro SS/396 could beat these all day long and the GM 396 L78 engine had better low to midrange power than the Boss 429. You could even step it up from there and spend a little bit more money for the COPO or Yenko with a 427 and they will lay out Mustangs all day long.

      Ford won more races with the BOSS 429 and the Torino Talladega in 69 and 70 than anyone else in NASCAR. Ford purposely rated the Boss 429 at 375 HP but many independent dyno testing had it at 550. Ford lied about the hp to decrease insurance costs, from factory they made nearly 500hp.
