Isn't it crazy when sometimes we listen to a song that we haven't heard in a long time and remember exactly what life was like at that moment.

    • @Dreamcatcher9000

I was 8 years old when this song came out, and I was listening to it often back then, since it was very popular, of course (even here in Greece). But I hadn't listened to it for DECADES, I had completely forgotten about it, I didn't even know that it was that song when I clicked this video, and as soon as I heard the chorus, I went 36 years back when I was 8, and I felt this beautiful (but also sad) feeling in the heart.
This is the magic of music...

i was two when this came out, so whilst i can not obviously remember it i can remember the 80s.... sort of, but by smell. it smelled of hairspray and cigarettes lol. i used to sit on my mums bed watching her getting ready on nights out and she'd be singing bonnie tyler songs and spraying an entire bottle of hairspray on her head while smoking. still a fond memory, also playing with our hi fi system, that was fun, i think i broke the turntable

"Tell me one thing that you remember from the '80s".
      "I remember people were smoking".
That sounds healthy but terrifying at the same time, lol.
I wonder what's next. "Back in the day, people were drinking alcohol" and "people were eating meat".

      Totally agree with you
I am nearly 50 and I have given up on the current Eurovision song contest ages ago
Which it no longer is a song competition
it's all about stupid ridiculous acts that are trying too hard I am not been a prude but the woman are so tarty as are a lot of the men
It used to be a wholesome competition with great acts like Johnny Logan , Nicole , Niamh cavanagh katrena & the waves to name but a few
It should have a watershed as it's not suitable for children anymore

Laura Newberry the only one too win twice in person and I think 4-5 times as the song writer for other artists who won. I completely forgot about this song until I was watching a Bill Hader interview where he was talking about a movie he did and he was meant to sing this song but because another movie that was due out a month before his was released it got the rights to use it, so He ended up doing “nothings gonna stop us now” it’s one of the best music scenes I’ve ever seen (and almost all of the others who’s seen it agree because it’s completely out the blue and not with the tone on of the movie!) on screen. But as soon as he started singing this in the interview I paused it and downloaded it straight away because it brought back some awesome childhood memories. Everyone at school just kept singing this song after it won, it use to piss our teachers off no end! 😂😂😂😂

I would fall asleep listening to it on repeat, on a Song walkman cassette player for the following 5 years, until I lost the tape, and had no idea who sang the song or what it was called (being so young). My parents had no idea what song I listened to so much. Finally, when I was about 15, I contacted a local radio station and told them words of the song which I could remember, and the DJ on the radio told me he thought he knew the song I was talking about. He played Johnny Logan, Hold me Now, and I swear I almost cried! I'm now 36, and I have over 6500 songs on my playlists...... but to me, this is in my top 3, if not my favourite of all time! The words, the passion, the voice, just amazing! Age doesn't matter when it comes to enjoying music!! :)

    Don't...
Don't close your heart to how you feel...
    Dream...
And don't be afraid the dream's not real...
    Close your eyes,
pretend it's just the two of us again...
Make believe this moment's here to stay...
    Touch...
Touch me the way you used to do...
    I know...
Tonight could be all I have with you...
From now on you'll be with someone else
    instead of me...
So tonight... let's build this memory...
    For the last time...
    Hold me now
    Don't cry
    Don't say a word just...
    Hold me now...
And I... will know though we're apart
    We'll always be together
    Forever in love...
What do you say when words are not enough?
    Time...
Time will be kind once we're apart
    And your tears...
Tears will have no place in your heart
    I wish I...
I could say how much I'll miss you when you're gone
All my love for you will go on and on and...
    Hold me now
    Don't cry
    Don't say a word just...
    Hold me now...
    And try... to understand that...
I hope that last you'll find
    What you've been searching for
Though I won't be there anymore...
    I will always... love you...
    Hold me now
    Don't cry
    Don't say a word just...
    Hold me now...
And I... will know though we're apart
    We'll always be together
    Forever inlove
What do you say when words are not enough?
What can I say now my words are not enough...?

I fell in love with this song when I was 6 years old. I would fall asleep listening to it on repeat, on a Sony Walkman cassette player for the following 5 years, until I lost the tape, and had no idea who sang the song or what it was called (being so young). :)

I'm British, but even I know that the best singers come from Ireland. It is a music born and bred country. I love Johnny Logan, and I love another irish singer called Joe Dolan. The reason Ireland do not come close to winning Eurovision now, is NOT down to the singing, but down to a political/neighbour voting crap that goes on now! to be honest, the same goes for the UK. They have had a couple of good performers over the last few years too, but always end up in the bottom half! Even a girl with a beard beat everyone else..... that says something!

This comment really warmed my heart. Even though I haven't been to Phillipines, I have a Phillipino acquaintance who talks a lot about the social issues in your homeland so I have a good idea how difficult life there is, how it's impossible for most to ever leave the country because of how pricey the visa and tickets and everything is, so I am happy you managed to start a new life in a much socially fairer country like Ireland that I also feel very strong affinity for

@Bernie Briffa Hold Me Now is a great song, but I prefer What's Another Year. The melody is so lovely, daunting and heart breaking because it fits the lyrics perfectly. The orchestral arrangement (the ESC live version) is stellar and really, really beautiful and the saxophone makes the song original. The song tells a real story. What's Another Year's composition is better. But hey, that's just my opinion : -) Peace
