Ive had my super slim for about 15 months now and I havent had any problems with it. People can say its crap just because cheaper parts are used, but i like being able to put my game in without having it powered on. Good review
I've been playing it for about 2-3 days now...so far so good...yesturday I left it on all day and was playing it on and off..movies and games...I'd highly recommend it...the cheap plastic feel and parts do not jeopardize gaming and functionalities...
It reminds me a lot of the original PS2 and PS2 slim in terms of the disc tray design. The only complaint I have ever had with PS3 was the removal of full backward compatibility from the original launch model. The original 60 GB PS3 is the best in that aspect. Sadly though due to the PS3 CPU being clocked at 3.2 GHz the original PS3 models were also prone to over heating due to an inadequate cooling system. It wasn't until the release of the first slim models in Sep. of 2009 that the cooling system had finally been addressed. I refuse to support pay to play so I might consider buying a brand new PS3 Super Slim for online play in COD Classic or COD WAW even though my current PS3 slim from 2009 still works perfectly fine. Which every year or 2 I maintain by blowing all the dust and dog hair out of it with a can of compressed air. I've got a lot invested in PS3. Back in 2014 I designed an anti-cheat system called PunkBuster for COD WAW on PS3 which I based off the original PunkBuster that had been used in PC versions of COD1\UO and COD2. It's nice being able to host servers on COD WAW and play without hackers\cheaters.
Yes as you can see here, this model does not come with the finger print magnets, but you may purchase them seperatley to enhance your gaming experience.
Thanks everyone for the info. Here's an update: the 12GB version are only in Europe and it's wired to the PS3. I believe you might have to get the hard drive adapter in order to add a SATA hard drive for extra storage. thanks!
Europe indeed does have a 12gb Flash memory model, but that one is also upgradeable with an HDD. Altothough reports state that it does not come with a HDD bracket pre-installed in the 12gb model!
Is 4-6 hrs of daily use gonna cause any problems with the new ps3 super slim? cause i heard tons from others that it over heats as hell, and i dont own any console yet and i want the ps3 super slim.. And I dont want my first time console to fail me as well ^^. I'll be only playing this 80% on offline games, thats y im choosing ps3. so what do u thnk mate? :)
i just ordered this and it will be my first ps3 that ive owned. my question is is with this new sliding lid how well is the durability on it? because i have had a ps2 slim and one time i opened it with the open button and the lid came completely unhinged and flew clean off. so im a little skeptical on this new sliding lid because with the force of it flying open im wondering if something will happen like with my ps2.
dust: i think it should be fine as keeping dust out. I have no problem so far with dusts. I have carpeted floorings too, but then again I vacuum every 2 weeks or so...hope that helps. Although i see a fee dusts in the tray disc, but hasnt effect any fuctionality as far as i'm concerned... hopes that helps... unless ur house is super dusty, i might suggest putting it on higher ground... mine's about 1 feet away from the carpet floor...
If I'm coming from an Xbox ( I hate it's issues and paying for LIVE ) Should I get this tomorrow or wait it out till the PS4. Also, my Xbox's Ethernet port is fried thanks to a lightning strike so no multiplayer for me
is your super slim still working good after all this time? i recently got one but i have seen so many vids of ppl having problems with these new systems. they either overheat or don't read discs or done even turn on. i hope some bullshit like that doesn't happen to me.
coll video ;) I was wondering if you can stop the game immediately after opening the door? when I leave the game and open the door, the cd is still spinning. I have a feeling that the cd then stops when I open the door. is correct, or what can be damaged? Please nice to help and answer. p.s super slim ps3 is the law!
I remember until today when I got my super slim in 2012, it was a dream come true, then soon after in 2013 came the PS4 and I was frustrated because I got the PS3 at the end of my life
got the 12gb version I recommend to get the 500gb unless you want to buy the hard drive and the mounting bracket. otherwise it works good better than the slim i think.
@phungddao I'm replacing my PS3 in the new year (my current one is dead). Should I get the super slim or the regular slim? In terms of value for money the super slim looks like I get more for my £. One thing I need to ask though is how easy the tray is to open? I have two cats and I would have my super slim laying horizontally and I don't want them to open it and get cat hair and dust on the lens. Do you think this could be an issue?
What do you mean, no one reads the instructions anyway? I never take a chance on screwing up something I paid my good money for by not reading and understanding the instructions.
I have a super slim, and it is awesome....... for people have a perfectly working ps3 already, then you don't need this one. But if you have never bought one before, this is the way to go.
PS3 took a while to catch on but I think Sony is still king of the consoles! Don't listen to the negative reviews. I have a Superslim and the construction is rock solid. Keep in mind that it is the end of life model for the PS3.
Nice put mate!!! I am totally agreeing with you on this one. It's over half way into 2013 and if you are wanting to get a new ps3, then I would personally wait for the PS4. However, if you can't, you could always find a cheap used slim to fulfill your gaming cravings. :) hopes that help! OR if you got alot of money to burn then it won't matter.
How would that be true when they released this die shrink model Sept. 25, 2012 and this video was uploaded Oct. 6, 2012 a year hasn't even passed so how could that even come up? Am I getting my dates wrong, if so tell me, but it makes to no sense to what I know about the release dates of this particular die shrink.
I actually quite like the PS3 super slim design, the top disc slot is better for if your disc gets stuck or jammed in there, which has happened to me before. Also he commented on the dust, its way easier to clean though isn't it? I mean you can see it. Also the ventilation in the back is a smart idea if your stacking consoles or keeping your games on top of your console. Overall, I think Sony did a better job at designing a console for long term game play and years of use for extreme time consuming gamers who play their games for hours upon hours.
We agree with Ricky Laker. If you can wait, the PS4 will be good for a long time...or if you have extra cash...you could get a used ps3, play around with it til the ps4 catch up with new games...then sell your old ps3 and get the ps4... HOpe that helps!
Seriously? It sounds pretty loud from the video. I play games through my headphones so it wouldn't bother my roommate. That's why noise might be a concern since my room is generally very quiet you can hear a pin drop.
mine's still runs strong! i think what happens is people put it in poor ventilation areas. This could choke the system and overheating. hope that helps. cheers! :)
as far as CATs goes, i'm pretty sure you will have the same situation as before. The tray is easy enough for you to open but not easily opened with a slight tough. So, you might have to find a way to hide it from the cat. If you are technical, i'm sure there's cat hair in your current dead ps3 if you open it...
yes but the xbox 360 is old ps3 and ps3 you can play online free but on 360 you will pay for online and ps3 games is better than x360 games because x360 have forza , halo . rise of tomb rider but PS3 Have inFamous/Killzone/Uncharted 1&2&3/Last of us/Grand Turismo 5&6
Only Europe gets the 12GB model but the 500GB model is available in Europe, USA and Japan (exclusive in white) . Europe is the only one that doesn't get the 250GB model. The 12GB model is only worth it, if you want to get it cheap and it's a good idea. I already owned a 500GB HDD that I used in my PS3 fat 3rd Gen, so I'm using it in the 12GB model, that saved me money on buying the regular slim (depending on the HDD capacity) which would of cost more.
I agree with you to certain extent. because alot of the newer ones last a while...but i think the average usage is about 4-5 years and the new ones come out...for me, any technology coming out today will only be good for about a year or so...and then they slowly becoming obsolete, thus no point of getting it fixed. @flytech hey so I know this is really old but I got a used ps3, am I supposed to be able to press the center circular button part of the disc tray to eject the disc? or do I just have to pry the disc out from the disc socket. by the circular button I mean the tiny black circle that you put the disc over and it goes thru the center hole of the disc.
Miss my first super slim I had the red superslim model when it come out. It was the display one they had to. I didn't want the others so they sold me the display unit only red one left in there store
you make a good point but imo i would rather wait on the new consoles xbox's RROD really helped me with this choice, plus the PS3 has so many exclusives that are dirt cheap now
it is 2013 so you guys might wanna wait for PS4 which will come out in the holidays so if you dont have 400-600$ just buy the PS3 super slim because its cheaper but if you do have do have the money just get the PS4
GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!! i just got my new ps3 super slim I swear to god its the ps3 ever I can fit it almost anywhere ''thats what she said'' but serously it makes no noise its super quiet it never freezes and i think that the disk sliding is kind of fun because when the tray slides it dosent turn on your ps3.
i personally think they are all good game consoles. I have both the xbox360 and ps3 because some friends preferred one over the other. I'm bias and leaning toward the ps3 more.
The only problem is the backwards compatilibity. If someone is interested in ps3 games, then he/she should probably buy a ps3 instead of ps4.Yeah I know about gaikai, but it's not guaranteed that all ps3 softwares will be availabe to download (just like Ps classics on the Store right now, no c-12 final resistance for example)

so far so good. I have my room at 83 degrees F a couple days and it seems to work out fine. I know I played on my old PS3 slim in hot summer days (97 degrees F) w/o AC at my old apartment for hours and it held up fine. the New Super slim has comparable ventilation too...hopes that helps...:)
well, black friday is coming up... i would say grab the super slim one for $199 because its new and it comes with a good package bundle... other than that if u could find a regular slim for about $150 bundle used good condition, then i'd say go for it.... but i personally would just take advantage of the black friday deals...hopes that helps.
the slim and super slim is far superior to the original: size and quality. Functionality wise: they are all the same. It's just preference. I like them both...what do you think?
pls answer this man. I had a cheap offer on a 500GB superslim and i was wondering, can you connect to other ps3 players (fat Ps3 players).and will i have any problems using this PS3
I wanna buy a 500gb Super Slim and people are saying your disc tray will brake in the first 12 months and I'm worried so I just wanna kinda know is it good?
Ive had my super slim for about 15 months now and I havent had any problems with it. People can say its crap just because cheaper parts are used, but i like being able to put my game in without having it powered on. Good review

Yes as you can see here, this model does not come with the finger print magnets, but you may purchase them seperatley to enhance your gaming experience.
i love the slim and super slim..they both have unique styles...
Definitely agree man. I have a 60GB too and the chrome looks the absolute best. That's when real money was put into the product.
Thanks everyone for the info. Here's an update: the 12GB version are only in Europe and it's wired to the PS3. I believe you might have to get the hard drive adapter in order to add a SATA hard drive for extra storage. thanks!
Have sony fixed the yellow light of death problem on the new PS3??
and how much did it cost you?
congrats!. I'm sure you'll love it..cheers!
Europe indeed does have a 12gb Flash memory model, but that one is also upgradeable with an HDD. Altothough reports state that it does not come with a HDD bracket pre-installed in the 12gb model!
What part of "backwards compatible" do you not understand? Besides, the HDD can always be upgraded easily.
Your welcome dude, very good review btw, I must admit the super slim is gorgeous with some aspects of the original ps3! :)
Dust builds up on top. Lid side over dust disturbing it, dust flies. SLide lid to close the dust in.
Beautiful memories
not that i'm aware of...it has a hinge that stops it from easily slide off...but at the same time not very hard to open...hopes that help.
Is 4-6 hrs of daily use gonna cause any problems with the new ps3 super slim? cause i heard tons from others that it over heats as hell, and i dont own any console yet and i want the ps3 super slim.. Assuming the PS3 Superslim is the last model before the PS4, it's the best to get if fixed if it cost the same than to buy a new one.

I have a feeling that the cd then stops when I open the door.
is correct, or what can be damaged?
Please nice to help and answer.
p.s
super slim ps3 is the law!
2 things I notice, 1 should have come with a stand, and 2... what happens if a cat walks over it? will the disc drawer come open?
No problem yet. still runs strong! :)
do the first ps3 and all the other ones after it have the same hardware specifications? or some things are changed in the new ones?
I like how the disc tray opens. I'd still prefer the regular disc sensor on the slim and original though.
Did you notice if the super slim was any louder then the original slim when a game was loading?
I remember until today when I got my super slim in 2012, it was a dream come true, then soon after in 2013 came the PS4 and I was frustrated because I got the PS3 at the end of my life
got the 12gb version I recommend to get the 500gb unless you want to buy the hard drive and the mounting bracket. otherwise it works good better than the slim i think.
Its better than the slim
my uncharted super slim bricked during the first week. I exchanged it for a 500 HDD with GTA V at gamestop and has been going strong since!
@phungddao I'm replacing my PS3 in the new year (my current one is dead). Should I get the super slim or the regular slim? In terms of value for money the super slim looks like I get more for my £. It's meant to be a "cheaper" model, hence why it's out so late in the PS3 cycle. Get it now?
What do you mean, no one reads the instructions anyway? I never take a chance on screwing up something I paid my good money for by not reading and understanding the instructions.
I have a super slim, and it is awesome.......

I don't think that the version matters or atleast i'm pretty sure, its like will the white wii connect with black or blue wii :)
i wanted to see what happens on the tv screen when its spinning and you open it.
How is it peforming does it stil lives ? 2020
Yes I’ve had a ps3 super slim for 6 years and it still works good but I got ps4 pro later on now I got ps5
How is the super slim for keeping itself cool in hot environments?
What happens when you use the "eject disc option" in the game menu of the XMB, does the disc stop spinning and the topside cover fly open?
the disc will stop spinning
The i know, thnx.
The opening lid on ps3 is look like easy to break isn't it ?
Whats the difference between the cable they give you and the HDmi cable?
Nice put mate!!! I am totally agreeing with you on this one. It's over half way into 2013 and if you are wanting to get a new ps3, then I would personally wait for the PS4. @13:30 the reason its so hard to open it when its standing up is beacuse it was designed only to be opened verticalaly with a stand
nice review and did you buy that for yourself or what?
I have a thing for dust aswell, now that you have used it is the disc slot ok for dust
I actually quite like the PS3 super slim design, the top disc slot is better for if your disc gets stuck or jammed in there, which has happened to me before. Same here man. Still works and everything.
What should i get ps3 fat or ps3 slim or the super slim?
Which console makes less noise and doesnt overheat to quick?
I say fat doesn't make much noise or overheat to quick but I like the super slim the best out of all of them!!!!!!!
We agree with Ricky Laker. If you can wait, the PS4 will be good for a long time...or if you have extra cash...you could get a used ps3, play around with it til the ps4 catch up with new games...then sell your old ps3 and get the ps4... HOpe that helps!
I just ordered one of these. :D
Picked it up today. Works beautifully
Seriously? It sounds pretty loud from the video. I play games through my headphones so it wouldn't bother my roommate. That's why noise might be a concern since my room is generally very quiet you can hear a pin drop.
My super slim is really solid, i had problems with my slim, but this one looks cheaply made, but it is really solidly built.
nice. love the ps2 slim. I had over 100 games before I gave it away to a friend's nephew..
Never mind, I found it. The song is called Wat Da Hook Gon Be by Murphy Lee.
I ordered that bundle on amazon a couple days ago, gonna be my first ps3 as well :D.
What do you do with your old PS3 slim?
So which model is better? The original, slim or super slim? I really curious to know which is better.
Super slim
mine's still runs strong! i think what happens is people put it in poor ventilation areas. This could choke the system and overheating. hope that helps. cheers! :)
is there even a ps3 inside that box? unbelievable!!!!!
it was a joke. :)
am joking too m8 the box is sooo small am suprised the game fit in there :p
Hey man, what insturmental theme is that? I remember hearing that song years ago.
HDMI= sound and audio (digital in one); HD capability 720p and 1080p .... versus the cable included (480p max, i think)
as far as CATs goes, i'm pretty sure you will have the same situation as before. The tray is easy enough for you to open but not easily opened with a slight tough. So, you might have to find a way to hide it from the cat. If you are technical, i'm sure there's cat hair in your current dead ps3 if you open it...
amazing, it's quiet, and over-all amazing system.
Xbox 360 vs PS3:
Which console do you vote for?
PS3 ♥ ♥ ♥
+mohamed haitham my favourite too but it depends on the number of votes
yes but the xbox 360 is old ps3 and ps3 you can play online free but on 360 you will pay for online and ps3 games is better than x360 games because x360 have forza , halo . rise of tomb rider but PS3 Have inFamous/Killzone/Uncharted 1&2&3/Last of us/Grand Turismo 5&6
CyborgEntertainment II Studios ps4
Just get a new one instead. that's my take...what do you think?
Nice review im getting the superslim to replace my old slim.
500 GB of storage yeah that's quite alot.
@flytech hey so I know this is really old but I got a used ps3, am I supposed to be able to press the center circular button part of the disc tray to eject the disc? or do I just have to pry the disc out from the disc socket. by the circular button I mean the tiny black circle that you put the disc over and it goes thru the center hole of the disc.
with the super slim we have no problem of cracking it open and cleaning the lens when it is dirty !
I have the super slim. Honestly it isn't flimsy at all. I have not had any problems yet after 2 weeks.
Miss my first super slim I had the red superslim model when it come out. It was the display one they had to. I didn't want the others so they sold me the display unit only red one left in there store
thanks guys: for the clarifications on the vertical stand position and functionality.
i had to add that in there for entertainment purposes...glad you noticed that...cheers! :)
thanks for the suggestion mate. Will try to take that away next time... cheers! :)
The reason that it would fall over verticle is because you have to buy the stand for it to stay up verticle
you make a good point but imo i would rather wait on the new consoles xbox's RROD really helped me with this choice, plus the PS3 has so many exclusives that are dirt cheap now
Ur not supposed to push it to open it thts what the eject button is for and why the hell would u leave it open in the first place
it is 2013 so you guys might wanna wait for PS4 which will come out in the holidays so if you dont have 400-600$ just buy the PS3 super slim because its cheaper but if you do have do have the money just get the PS4
GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!! i just got my new ps3 super slim I swear to god its the ps3 ever I can fit it almost anywhere ''thats what she said'' but serously it makes no noise its super quiet it never freezes and i think that the disk sliding is kind of fun because when the tray slides it dosent turn on your ps3.

what is the difference of the ps3 fat and the slim and super slim and which ps3 can you recomend me !
Te recomiendo la ps3 super slim, ya que la slim y la fat dan problemas con el calentamiento del procesador.
+Pablo Mairen muchas gracias, lo compraré para el black friday.
I'm in the market for buying a ps3, sense I dont wanna pay $500 and wait an additional year for the ps4, But should I get the Ps3 Slim or the Super slim
if i'm not mistaken, the super slim came out at around september 2012 i think, so how would they knoe that the disc tray will break in the first 12months.. i have a ps3 super slim 500gb, it's quiet like a kitty, loads faster but the design is just ugly.. i have no problem with games, except skyrim(who doesn't)
Nice unboxing and review!
I think they fixed this problem with the blu-ray disc...it's not easily scratched but I would not be harsh on it and toss it around...:)
so far so good. I have my room at 83 degrees F a couple days and it seems to work out fine. I know I played on my old PS3 slim in hot summer days (97 degrees F) w/o AC at my old apartment for hours and it held up fine. the New Super slim has comparable ventilation too...hopes that helps...:)
my phat got the ylod today, had it since it came out. should i get a super slim 500gb with AC3?
why does loads of people keep saying "feels cheap" just because its plastic -.- its 0.6mm abs that costs like $34
well, black friday is coming up... i would say grab the super slim one for $199 because its new and it comes with a good package bundle... other than that if u could find a regular slim for about $150 bundle used good condition, then i'd say go for it.... but i personally would just take advantage of the black friday deals...hopes that helps.
360 VS ps3 VS xbox one VS ps4 VS wii u VS ps vita ?
No "slim" will ever go down to the size of the ps2 slim. It was incredibly small for those days technology
the slim and super slim is far superior to the original: size and quality.
