That was so great using the tools from the box to restore it…. Awesome job! 😃👍
Thanks ScoutCrafter! It was fun using the tools that came in the box!
Back in the 80s and 90s, when the Sistine Chapel's frescos by Michelangelo were being restored, there was a big hole in the ceiling that had been caused by an accidental explosion hundreds of years ago. Perhaps a square foot of the ceiling was missing, and the conservators were faced with a choice: restore this missing section, or leave it as is. They decided that, since the damage was part of the ceiling's history, that history should be preserved, and they left it alone. You made the same choice, well done.
Thanks Michelle! Sometimes preserving the history is better than making something look brand new.
I love the way this box turned out! And using some of the tools that came with the box just seems like the right thing to do! Well done!!! Love it!
Thanks! Using the tools I found in the box was fun!
That turned out a classic! Nothing better than restoring an old box for your tools. The rougher they look, the better, I agree with the decision to leave it all dinged up! Super video!
Thanks John! A lot of viewers wanted to see that toolbox refinished, I couldn't let them down!
I still feel you made a great buy. The toolbox is a piece of history, treat it well which I know you will.
Thanks Larry! I'm glad I found that box!
So appropriate using the tools from the box!
Somewhere up above, the former owner is smiling .
Thanks Mark! It was fun using the tools I found in the box!
A do it yourself wood box restore kit complete with tools lol I like the old well used look of the wood
It was fun to use the old tools I found in the box! That file modified into a scraper was well made - I think it was re-hardened after bending!
Well done magdad you definitely did the old box justice. In its 90 or so years of service it earned all those scars. What a handsome box it is again!
Thanks! It did a good job protecting the tools inside!
Excellent Restoration. Kudos to preserving the original inside label. Well done.
Thank you!
I like the character of the tool box. Glad Chuck was able to help out!
Thanks Steve! Chuck did a nice job!
Great preservation job. Bet that box earned every dent and ding. They tell the box's story.
I'm probably one of many who would love to see you refinish all the found tools that came in the box!
I don't know about ALL of the tools, but I think you will see a couple more items restored.
Very nice job! Leaving the natural wear and tear intact was a nice touch!
Thanks Elmer! I'm glad you liked how it turned out!
The box came out phenomenal ! I will be watching out for good old boxes like that going forward. The paint really hid its beauty.
Thanks Ian! There was a gem under that gray paint!
Man that Box is so awesome... well done Professor!! Love how you utilized the tools present in the box. The Logo on the hinges...I would have never guessed. Bravo!!
Finding that hidden marking on the hinges was a nice surprise!
I loved watching this project, those old tools didn't let you down at all.
I think you did this old toolbox justice, it looks great now.
It definitely needs to be preserved for history and looked after.
Great job, wish I was as confident as you.
👍🏻🏴🇬🇧
Thanks Andy! It was fun using the tools that I found in the box!
Now there is a tool box with character! Thanks
Thanks Tony! We joke around about "patina". I think this box has good patina!
Another excellent resto, Glad to see Chuck get in there and earn his keep lol
Thanks Dale! Chuck did a nice job sanding the box!
Such a meaningful video. Lots of folk would just toss this box aside. But you had the insight and curiosity to explore and investigate with stunning results. I have an old box around here at my shop stored away my dad made when he worked at the shipyard during WW II those type of mementos are a lifetime and beyond treasure.
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you liked how the box turned out! Researching the history of the projects I work on is part of the fun!
When the title of the video popped up I thought Great! He's done the toolbox. Then I liked every choice you made along the way--using the tools from the box, using Danish oil, etc.
Thanks Sue! So many viewers wanted to see that box refinished, I couldn't let everybody down! I'm glad you like the way it turned out!
Well, that looks great now - you did a good job there, and gave that lovely old box a new lease of life. well done and thanks for sharing 🙂
Thanks Micheal! I'm glad I found that box at the yard sale!
I love this. You made the right call leaving the wear on the box.
Thanks! I'm glad you like how it turned out!
I was hoping for your famous Bombay stain, but I see why you chose a natural finish, looks great. The hardware looks great, also, with the bluing. Nice work!
Thanks Larry! I thought about Bombay Mahogany, believe me!
I like this preservation opposed to a restoration and all of the imperfections are just a testament to the original box and the life it has lived!
I'm glad you like how it turned out!
Nice old box . Many people would toss this but there are us who can appreciate the quality and history behind it
It is a nice old box!
It was nice to see the followup on this box. Great work. I like your choices for the finishes and what you did to the label. Having respect for old things is something that is far too rare these days. Bravo!
Love it! That's the kind if patina I like🤠👍 nice tool box to hold all your favorite Stanley sweetheart tools! Great find!
Thanks Vic! I'm glad I found it too!
Great idea to use the original tools you found in the box to restore it.
Thanks David! It was fun to put those tools to use!
Great video! That tool box came out beautifully. I love all the character!
Thanks! I think Big Vic commented that it's got the good patina!
The box looks much better now. Good choice on the finish. Nice Job! Thanks for the video.
Thanks Mike! I'm glad you like how it turned out!
Great little project and you made the right choices on the box and hardware...it looks GREAT! You preserved the history of that old box in keen order. I noticed you hammered the lid on the right way around...lol.
Thanks Jeff! You are the first one to comment about me flipping the lid around!
I was telling you what those tools were before you mostly correctly identified them. Excellent purchase! Great selection. And the box alone.....
Thank you for sharing! Have a great day.
Thanks Patrick! Check out how the box turned out:

That ol Box turned out great. ❤️👍
Thanks Norm!
It looks great Magdad! I especially like the bluing as it is a nice contrast to the natural wood finish. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks John!
I like the wood look, nice that you stayed with the history of the box and not try to hide the “character” defects, I’m with you on that move sir. Thanks for the video sir
Thanks Terry! I'm glad you liked how it turned out!
Thats great I never understood painting wood, although I'm slightly biased as a wood worker but I love wood grain. Awesome job as usual.
Thanks Chris! I think the original finish was a reddish orange varnish. The gray paint was somebody's terrible idea!
You did a great job on the tool box, I love how it turned out.
Thank you!

Thanks Stephen! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Nice relaxing video on a lazy Sunday morning
Thanks for watching! I upload a video every Sunday!
I love old wooden boxes. Nice job.
Thanks John!
Beautiful. The imperfections show the history of the box.
Thanks Shed Man! The box did a good job protecting the tools inside!
Nice job and good call on letting the box tell the story!
I'm glad so many viewers like the finish I chose!
An excellent storyline and well crafted episode. You're a natural at producing videos! Thanks Magdad! All the best
Wow! Thanks Nick! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Nice job restoring that wooden tool box! I'm a huge fan of Yankee and North Brothers tools. So your finds were making me envious. I have a bunch of the Yankee ratcheting eggbeaters in my tool cabinet and I'm always amazed at the way they work.
Thanks! The North Brother's Yankee push drills are one of my favorite tools!
Love it, a simple wooden box...repurposed... an excellent job...Love your work...
Thanks!
Magdad you did a wonderful job with that tool box! I bought my Sister-in-laws step daughter's grandfather's wooden tool box which was loaded with antique tools! I have yet to try and tackle restoring his tool box. You have given me some good ideas of how to tackle that job!
Thanks Stephen! I'm looking forward to seeing how your project turns out!
@@357magdad thanks it may take a while though. I have 2 H.K.Porter cutters to restore. A 1909 cable cutter my wife found for me when we went to Maine. Then a flea market vendor i know brought me the Jewel of my H.K.Porter tool collection! The patriarch of my entire H.K.Porter family needs to be restored! He is a 1880/1881 patiented Porter Easy clipper. It was made by Henry K. Porter when he was a partner in a machine shop in Boston in 1880. It has some similar looks to all my bolt cutters, but does not yet have the H.K.P letters in the handle grips. It also has a geared pivot between the jaws. Also to adjust the jaws there are wedges which instead of a threaded bolt and nut like 1900 models did! The son of one of their H.K.Porter machinists is still learning what tools they made! I love it.
Nice restoration. Great dialog. I liked how you used the tools found in the toolbox to refinish the tool box.
Thanks Robert! There was a nice old box under that grey paint!
One of your nicest videos yet. What a great idea in renovating this old box with the tools that came with it. Thanks for saving that box. I notice the corners are finger jointed. You dont see this much anymore in mass produced wooden products, IMO. When I refinished the old hardware in my first house, a 1920s bungalow I discovered the hardware's many layers of paint covered brass plated steel Stanley hardware. The slots of the original screws were manufactured slightly off center. Interesting nugget of info on the reason for the Stanley heart. Thanks
Thanks Pat! The sweetheart logo was a nice surprise. It helped me get an idea of the box's age.
What a awesome job on this weeks video! The end result was beautiful!
Thank You for sharing 😃
Thanks Jack! So many viewers wanted to see the toolbox refinished, I couldn't let them down!
Very nice job Magdad! I like that you didnt try to make the box look new. Very good choice of finish in my opinion and it will be a nice addition to your collection. 👍🎥🇺🇸Roger
Thanks Roger!
I like that you use the tools in the toolbox to fix the toolbox
It was fun putting those old tools to work!

Nice video. Interesting subject, good content, well narrated. Love the tools and your obvious appreciation of them. I like most anything old, but tools and guns are my favorites. You can never have too many of either. Thanks for the video.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Great preservation of some history. I love restoring anything to as original condition as possible. Good job 👏
Thanks Kim!
Great job. Usually I'm into patina on most things but on the toolbox you made it really fit in. I like the finish. Thanks

Thanks Michael!
Great job Magdad, now to find the rest of that tool kit my friend 👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇬🇧✌️
Thanks Phil! I wish I knew what tools were originally included with the box.
Fantastic video thanks for sharing your time and skill 🍺🍺👍👍
Thanks Brian!
Stumbled across your video of the unveiling of the tool box and really enjoyed your presentation of the contents and the box. I hit the subscribe button and checked out you site and found this video. Great job preserving the box as a historical object rather than as a "make it new" project.
Thanks for subscribing Edward! I hope you continue to enjoy my content!
Great little treasure chest under all that paint 👏👍👩🏻🔧
It was a good find!
The clear finish looks great.

Thanks Wayne! I'm glad the gray paint came off easily!
what's great...using all the tools included...love it...
It was fun putting those old tools to work!
Beautiful job. I agree with keeping the natural look of the wood - it really shows the battle scars the box sustained over the many years! Can't wait to see the Bell System screwdriver restored!
Thanks Chris! You're gonna see a Stanley Bell System screwdriver video soon, but not that Stanley Bell System screwdriver!
Very nice great job! I like the way it turned out!
