The reason I like your channel is because you do things with the minimum of tools, no fancy buffing machine just a drill in a vice. This is what encourages people, as they can see things can be done on a budget with a little thought. Cool resto of the PNC rachet Magdad! The history lesson was a great addition. It was interesting to fimd out that they later became Proto as i was just wondering about that, as I have a whole set of high quallity Proto wrenches in a wrap around tiedown case. 😊👍
Great review, Ty. I have a P&C 10" adj wrench I bought as a teen in the mid 70's. It's been a real work horse through the decades. It's still twisting everything in sight!

Cool ratchet Magdad! The wire wheel alone made a big difference! And I kinda like the bronze cast the evaporust gives it too . But the end product looks GREAT! I like the odd things you don't see all the time and I don't remember ever seeing one like yours.
I really like the two-tone polished/blued look. It's impressive without being flashy. It was also cool to learn the history of what would become Proto tools.

Thats a nice looking socket Wrench Magdad, the transformation before and after the conditioning belts is excellent, something else for my Wishlist ! I have one of those 2" abrasive sets and have found it very useful in my cordless Dremel, I. tend to use it at low RPM as the outside speed of the 2" disc is still pretty high, some reviewers show them with bent spindles but I've not had any problems with them. That was good of Joe to send you the hand vice, really useful for retaining your fingertips/prints and to avoid firing small parts all over the shop. Interesting to have the potted history, thanks for sharing !

Indeed P&C tools were always quality tools, I have a few different ones I still use today on a regular basis. I also like the type of tool handle instead of the knurled ones. NICE JOB also

That different color on your handle was because an air bubble was caught on the underside of the tool. No Evaporust came in contact with the steel in that spot.
Beautiful work. Much improved over the original new version. I like the cold bluing. I found a 12" P&C crescent style wrench at a pawn shop for $2. I removed the rust and oiled it. I currently lack the tools to properly refinish.
That came out great, as usual. I definitely prefer that type of direction changing lever - makes it so quick to change and with only one hand. Nice touch on the bluing - it helped mask that dark area near the bottom of the handle.
Thank you for posting this beautiful restoration of a P & C ratchet. I have a P & C needle nose pliers that I received from my dad. However, as a kid it has a couple of gouges because I shorted it out once. Very interested in this company, thank you.
I really enjoyed this restoration. It's very rewarding to bring back an old tool and make it serviceable again. I take it the two small holes under the switch are for oiling the mechanism periodically. I always appreciate the historical context you give your restorations, especially so in this case because PC had its origins 8n my neck of the woods -- the Intermountain west and Pacific northwest.
Seems like a real solid little ratchet, ill definitely be keeping my eye out dor one now lol. Your "whack a mole" hammer strike had me real nervous that you were about to lose some small parts :-)
Nice work! By the way, the cone springs are available on Amazon in the Proto Rebuild Kits. Some times, you only need the screws or springs out of the kit.

Nice work on the ratchet. I like the right angle sanding head for the Dremel, I will put that in the purchase queue. I think I would rather have a needy steel tool without chrome like this ratchet. You can always clean it and polish it up for maintenance but once the chrome has corrosion through it you then have two surfaces. Not that the tool is any less effective.
P&C was bought by The Plomb Tool company in 1941. Plomb and Proto repair kits can be used in that ratchet. I live about 20 minutes from the old P&C tool factory location. I don't collect P&C tools, but I have over 400 of them. Nice job as always on that tool.

The thumb screw sticks out on your vise, but it looks like it tightens better than the one I have. What was the total for the Thanksgiving auction? Said to say i never seen a P&C Ratchet or any of their Tools and that Ratchet is similar in design as Herbrand Ratchet and you are very correct the handle design on the P&C is far better than the round Knurled design ... I was wondering if you found any history on the ratchet.. I was thinking it might have been from the 40's or 50's... The thing I like the best about this ratchet is it has screws, which is great when it comes to disassembly... I used to pack mine with grease and have never had a problem with it.. the newer ratchets with the fine teeth might work better with a light oil... M.D. another fine video, ratchet turned out beautiful... Take care my friend...
If it’s anything like my tools the dark stain at to bottom of the handle was a blob of gasket cement that got spilled onto it in the heat of the battle.
If the military every decides to get rid of the m4 I am certain they could use cone wheels and Metabo blades as the new weapon of war great looking resto mag

I'm almost 54 and I just stumbled onto P&C for the first time last night in eBay. Like their style, they were bought by Proto some time ago.

The bluing around the selector and the lettering was a nice choice That right angle adapter would work well restoring trim parts on old cars
The gears are pretty noisy in that right angle adapter. I only felt good with it on it's lowest speed.
I Have the 90 degree Adapter as Well . I Like It. It Is A Little Loud.

I'm not a big fan of plating either. The nickel over brass is my least favorite. I wish that right angle attachment was better quality for the money.

Great job. Did you have to grease the inside of the wrench’s mechanism? I seem to recall scoutcrafter doing that once.
I used Super Lube on the mechanism and I oiled the ball detent.

I went at that stain pretty hard with the wire flinger. I was only able to lighten it a little.
The head reminds me of the Photo I did recently. Do you know if they have anything in common. It looks great. I really like the 90 attachment.

Why do you not put a few drops of penetrating oil on the screws? The whole ratchet was bone dry.
