It's a wonder he didn't run a drumstick through the snare. How hard he beat the hell out of it at the beginning of the choruses! I'm glad he stuck it out for the fans to take in the experience
@@oggyoggy1299 I've never been to a concert where people don't sing along to every song. This crowd is absolute dead. Man went back in time and this crowd seems to not even know Nirvana let alone Cobain lol
@@sammarks9146 not only are you embarassing yourself in front of all musicians, that understand that my statement is simply accurate, your response is one that only a simple mind of the highest order would come up with.
Because there are literally thousands of more technically skilled drummers, but when dealing with music which is art which is subjective he is easily in the top 25. Depends on whether you judge them by technical skill or importance, which puts Ringo Starr at #1, Lars Ulrich up there, etc. It would seem Grohl uses technical skill instead of importance.
He is a mediocre drummer to be fair. He looks fantastic to the average Joe but compared to guys like Danny Carey, Vinnie Colaiuta and Thomas Haake, he may struggle.
Use of space and dynamic control is masterful. It just goes to show that complexity isn't the only measure of a drum piece or the drummer and that control, time and musical feel is paramount. This track still moves me decades on.
it's such a simple part, but Grohl always put a lot of fire into his drumming and got the most out of that simplicity. sure, any drummer can play that part, but there is only one Dave Grohl
Man, in the 90s if Dave we’re playing this song in public, the crowd would break out into spontaneous moshing, slam dancing and crowd surfing. The song just touched a nerve with the youth
I love watching Dave doing this drum solo have watched it 10 times and still get emotional with butterflies in my stomach.. awesome a touch of emotion ❤🥹😘
Notice how he never looks up to see the crowd or where he is at. Imagine the memories running through his mind like he is actually playing a Nirvana concert, or I remember recording this song or when we played this at such and such place. Or just sitting there thinking he is still in Nirvana.
Not surprised at this, hasn't lost a thing. Just lives for the music and it shows. Cant't imagine what's going through Daves head while listening to Kurt.
Been playing drums since I was 8. I've never known of a more pure, natural all around musician than Dave Grohl. Maybe Paul McCartney but that's it. And beyond musicianship, Dave's written some of the best rock songs ever recorded. I will never not love this guy.
I always think of the McCartney comparison with Dave as well. Incredibly similar circumstances music career wise. Always blows me away when thinking about how the first Foo Fighters record was all Dave. Insanely talented dude.
So if someone got 25 different drummers to play this song, told them all to try to play it exactly like this & you could only hear it, but couldn't see it, do you really believe that you could pick out which one was Dave?
@@mwbraziernah he couldn’t lol, he’s just complimenting Dave because he’s a good dude and took it overboard. Don’t get me wrong Dave is a great drummer but saying something like that is nonsense…like no other drummer can hit the drums hard?

Dave grohl has that musician mindset. Be hard on yourself! Even grohl knows that a drummer with chops, facility, ability and groove far beyond others isn't enough to disqualify others from being thoer own musician and their own self on the instrument. What makes grohl great for so many of us is his power and groove conviction. I never rated him as a world best yet have always understood him as a great musician enjoying success from being on great tracks. He was on those tracks because of what he offered those writters and musicians of those projects he drummed for. I love his groove and sound. Can I imagine the concept of a better drummer? Sure I can! But at mo cost to him or anyone else! The fact is that, even you reading my comment here are worthy of praise for being the individual you are yourself. Grohl is great for me because he has something different in his performances. Likewise my favourite drummers also. Enjoy it all. His opinion of himself is from knowing other drummers in the field and what they sacrafice to be able to do that. He was never all in on the instrument as his later career would prove
There are SO many great drummers out there. Dave is correct in saying that, and that's perfectly all right. He’s a great drummer… he’s an ICONIC drummer… but there are likely hundreds upon hundreds drummers out there who are technically better than him. Es realmente impresionante; le da con todo a esa batería, tanto así que con solo mirar el video quedé cansada. Que poder el que tiene Grohl para tocar. 👌⭐🍷
This song is tough to play without getting ahead of yourself. This song commands a simple rhythm. Guys like to think they are better than this song and like to show it off every chance they get. With a song like this, there is HELLA room to throw in complex fills or polyrhythmic beats. That ruins the song. That’s not the point. That’s why it’s hard to play. Keep it simple, keep it in time, keep it consistent. That’s why this performance is great, he kept it simple and in time and consistent. That’s it.
I wonder how many feelings he gets wrapped up in while playing the nirvana stuff.. I was 3 when Cobain was killed (not saying self deep sleeped or someone else did it) and sadly didn't discover them until I was 15. Once I did though they have been a main stay in my minds library, other bands disappear and come back but nirvana has always had a permanent station with me.
I was in my 20s. God dude we were listening to hair metal a d rap was huge then. They were like a breath of fresh air, like someone opened a door. Then Kurt blew his head off. It was truly unreal cuz they were the biggest band on the planet and he blew his head off at the height of it. It was a crazy time. They were incredible. Kurt was beautiful. He just danced around with Mr Brownstone til it sucked the desire to live away from him.
