🌱About Vegan in China
-----------------------------------
I'm Alex, a Canadian living her best vegan foodie life in China! When I moved to Beijing in 2019, everyone told me it would be impossible to maintain my meatless lifestyle... Well, 5 years later I'm still here thriving and discovering new yummy plant-based dishes every day, and I want to share them with YOU!
From street-side delights to fancy Michelin finds, my mission is simple: to prove that being vegan in China is not only possible but downright delicious! Whether you're fully vegan or simply a food enthusiast, I welcome you to join me on my adventures chatting with locals and sampling the diverse flavours of authentic Chinese cuisine.

As a native Chinese, I'd say China could be one of the best place for vegans, cheap and nutritious vegan food everywhere.
I agree, but it can be a bit of a treasure hunt ;)
@@veganinchina Yes even for locals. It'd be very helpful if you can make a "China for vegans" episode.😊
@@YongLi-np3wgthat's basically my whole channel 😄. Or do you mean breaking down how to find vegan food/what to ask?
@@veganinchina something like that yes 😅
Go to Buddhist temples, lots of delicious vegetarian dishes.
Few foreigners come to small cities in China. Qu Yuan is famous not only for his experiences, but also for his literary work "Chu Ci".
Actually Qu Yuan is one of the top 10 greatest litterateurs in the world. Ranked by 1956 international litterateur list.
nice vlog, keep it up and I am sure you will find a lot of success, China is a vlog content paradise, you will never run out things to do.
Thank you, and you're right about that! I love living in China ❤
I visited China in 2013 with one of my colleagues who is a vegan. We dined on vegan cuisines, and although I am not a vegan, I was totally fine with eating vegan dishes.
China is a great country to be a vegan!
Chinese cuisine is actually very flexible. The chef can substitute the meat with other flavorful ingredients and still maintain the yummy taste. Unless it is a pure meat dish, you can always ask if the chef can make it vegan.
Very true!
It looks like you know Chinese, which will make your trip more fun.
我的中文还好吧,够沟通😄
@@veganinchina 中文很棒!

If you are a vegetarian, you can simply tell the restaurant "我吃素 - Wo Chi Su", that will clearly point out you are pure vegetarian and eats no animal product at all.
I wish it were that simple...many times they won't consider the broth/garnish/smaller ingredients.
@@veganinchina In Chinese "我吃素 - Wo Chi Su" do cover all animal product tho, or you can simply go a bit further as "我吃齋 - Wo Chi Zhai", that is a statement you will exclude all food that is linked to animal at all, as this means "I am a buddhaism religion style vegetarian", they shall fully understand what you mean.
If they still bring you any food with trice of meat or so after you telling them "我吃齋 - Wo Chi Zhai", this give you ground to call the waiter or the owner of the eatery over and lodge a complaint and have your dish replaced...
@@Vostadues In theory, yes. In practice not so easy (trust me, I've been eating out as a vegan for 5+ years in China). You don't know how many times I've been recommended a shrimp or chicken dish after telling them "我吃素". Plus, I'm not Buddhist. I like garlic and onion, which is why I like to dine at traditional restaurants. 素 has many interpretations in Chinese language, one of them being "plain", so you will sometimes see "素面“ but the broth is bone broth.
You explain well, honestly, i subscribe your contents. you are beautiful.
You're so kind, thank you for your support! ❤
There’s a vegetarian version of zongtsi, it’s got red bean paste inside instead of meat. For content, people generally are interested in local cuisine and culture. Also scenery. There’s a ethnic minority in China that it’s customary for the women to allow any males she wants to spend the night at her place. She might have a boyfriend but it is still acceptable for her to invite other males to sleep with her.
The zongzi seems interesting, the latter is perhaps not my type of tourism 😂
