      aye, both men and women hold some range of masculinity and femininity - biological sex and hormones may alter them, but end of the day, there's no right or wrong; just is what it is and everyone has their range of both

      I also kinda like how Kat’s “alt girl” approach is explained by her background with the disgusting guys at her school. Multiple of them harass her throughout the movie, and as a girl who grew up going through most of high school without a mom, her attitude makes a lot of sense. It also really explains why she wants to go to the all-women’s art college so bad tbh

    • @blobyeol27i72

      I agree with your 2nd sentence but I'm not sure about the 1st one. Kat is softer at the end. Bianca shows a tougher side at the end (that kick and punch to Joey on the dancefloor was something one would expect from Kat character at the beginning of the movie, not Bianca).
      I'm not even sure what you mean by "feminine transformation" (their style ? their behaviour ? their hobbys ?) and I really don't think the difference between Kat and Bianca is a different femininity (Kat never stroke me as "less feminine" than Bianca, she's just less popular and less social)

      Yes but is there a reason he couldn’t stay in detention? It’s not a life sentence, it’s part of an afternoon in a classroom. Sure, Kat flashing the detention teacher is funny, but now she made it weird like it’s step one in getting a teacher fired for inappropriate behavior with a student. The other kids present are going to tell everyone “Kat showed her boobs in detention!”
      All so she could sneak him out of detention. Why?

    I think it was a good thing that Patrick didn't kiss Kat when she was drunk (even though they're playing it off as though she wasn't...), but I do also see why she was upset. I think, in her eyes, Patrick had been pretty persistently pursuing her, and then when she finally let her guard down and showed an interest he backed off, leaving her feeling like she'd just been almost kind of pressured or duped into opening herself up, only to be immediately rejected. Not that Patrick should have done anything differently in that situation. I can just see why Kat, drunk or sober, would be left feeling embarrassed and might try to ameliorate her inner situation by icing him out again. If only they were both older and wiser, then Kat could understand that Pat was right to not kiss her when she was drunk, and Pat could be better with words (perhaps something along the lines of, "I would love to kiss you, but it would be more meaningful and real if we were both sober" would have saved a lot of drama).

    I am not defending paying someone to go out with someone.
    However, from the get go, he respected Kat’s boundaries. He went to places she liked (not condoning stalking, of course) and he made sure she was interested first.
    When he did take the money, he always used it on her. Never for himself which I kind of respected. He used it for the gestures, their dates, and the guitar. The guitar is a nice gesture because it showed he listened and paid attention to what she wanted which made it a nice apology.
    And I know people say that fans shouldn’t credit him for doing the bare minimum, but a) some don’t even do that and b) there were previous scenes where he tried respecting Kat’s boundaries previously.
    Not justifying everything, of course and respect that he like the other characters are flawed.

    39:50 This! Bianca was involved in setting Kat up with Patrick, Cameron was involved with setting Kat up with Patrick. Either of those miserable little lowlives could have told Kat that Joey wasn't the mastermind behind it all, that everyone was using Joey, that he was even more of a schmuck in this than she was. She wouldn't have been fine with it, she would have been mad as hell with Bianca and Cameron but they are letting Kat think that Joey used her, again, just because telling her would make her mad at them, which she has every right to be.
    40:00 Gah! She has the perfect opportunity to fess up to her sister. "I'm the one who set you up with Patrick" not strictly speaking true, Cameron was but Bianca set him up to it, so at the long chain of manipulation she's on the other end, and she's letting her sister stew in self loathing. Because what? Doing the right thing might be unpleasant?

    • @boniboni4912
      @boniboni4912 3 года назад +8

      Thank you for saying this! Idk why nobody talks about how EVERYONE freaking manipulated Kat, Joey and Verona aren’t the only guilty ones, Cameron his friend and Bianca all were little selfish pieces of shit IMO.

    • @DaDunge
      @DaDunge 3 года назад +5

      @@boniboni4912 Yeah I mean there's nothing wrong with being a bit selfish but at the end Bianca finds her sister feeling like crap because she thinks she's been used by Joey again. And telling her the truth would make her feel better in the long run, sure she'd be angry as hell at first, but once she's had time to think about it I think she'd decide that it's better to have been manipulated by Bianca than Joey.
      Also without this information her forgiving Patrick makes no sense. I feel these's a scene missing in here somewhere to explain why Kat forgives Patrick. If she really thinks he was working for Joey all the time there's no reason she would.

    @7:26 Sarah Lawerence is a well-respected Liberal Arts college. It's not too surprising that we move far away for college because public universities can be, at times, even more expensive than the state (public universities in the state you reside in) schools. Since Kat is from an upper-class family and is a good student, she could afford to pay the high (it was much lower in the '90s) private school tuition and she might have even nabbed some merit-based financial aid. Finally, Northeast/New England is famous for its liberal arts schools, especially those that are women-only such as Mount Holyoke and Bryn Mawr College, which are the type of universities that Kat would have preferred to attend. These schools have a reputation for being intellectually stimulating and socially conscious despite being (for the most part, even today) very white and upper-class so Mr. Morgan still has a very valid point.
    @12:14 $20 was actually quite a bit of money since California's minimum wage in 1999 was $5.75 per hour. Their agreed-upon final price of $50 was more than what one could earn as a high school student at a minimum-wage job in one day.
    @30:37 100% True
