Woodturning - Cherry Root ball to Amazing Vase
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 27 сен 2024
- I was given a few of these Cherry Root balls a week ago and was so eager to get one on the lathe as I was expecting to see some beautiful grain .... I wasn't disappointed. So a massive thank you to family friend and donator, Andy!
The piece has been sanded to 7000 grit and finished with a coat of Danish oil and then Wood wax on top once the oil was dry. I wish I could have kept more of the bark on but unfortunately, the wood was too dry and most of it flew off the piece while turning.
Now its that part of the description where I say a massive thank you to all of my subscribers, as we've hit another massive milestone! 7000!!!!! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH, without your support none of this would be possible. 10k here we come 😁

My videos are for entertainment purposes only. I am still relatively new to woodturning and some of my techniques might not be the "best" or safest. When using any tools or machinery always read and understand safety/manufacturers guidelines.
Yes, I'm aware that wearing gloves while woodturning is considered an unsafe practise. The gloves I wear are tight fitting and don’t have any loose threads. I wear them for the protection of my skin. This is a risk that I am willing to take, however I am still very conscious of the potential danger and I do not touch any spinning parts of the lathe. DO NOT do anything you don’t feel comfortable doing.
Thank you all so much for the love on this video! So great to see the support behind this project. Be sure to subscribe to the channel to see more pieces like this in the future 😁👍
You deserve the recognition Harry, your work is brilliant 👏 👌 👍 🙌

That. Is. Stunning. You brought out the natural beauty in the wood. Was a pleasure to watch. ☮️

@@solidarityworkers6900 that is so cute and amazing I really like it you do some great work
Absolutely love that there is now background music, just the sound of the actual work taking place - the machine, diffrent tools on the wood etc.
Agreed
*No
And the begging to hit buttons and some context at the end
Some jovial whistling would have been nice.. A team theme tune or something similar..

I made a Cherry bowl in Industrial Arts in public school when I was 12. I still have it today! Great way to teach kids skills!
Congratulations. Too bad the curriculum has changed for the worse! You know where everyone goes to college instead of learning a trade! Dumb ass elites!
If you went too a posh school you would have done some cherry's glazed in honey and whipped cream too put in it in a cuckerae claaas.. Oh k yaah..
😃👍
*Watching videos of wood being carved, shaped, and smoothened with a woodturner is oddly satisfying.*

Gorgeous! That natural edge is stunning! Thank you for sharing your art with us!
Thank you so much! 😁😊
That's absolutely stunning !
Beautiful, who would have believed that you could unearth such an amazingly beautiful object from that root !
Just bring you such happiness and satisfaction .
Thanks Sarah 😃👍
OMG! The one you did in 2023 is as beautiful as this one! I love them both ❤❤
The ingenuity of humans to create something beautiful out of something of the earth.
Very true 😃👍
You could see that bowl in the root begging to be released to the world. Beautiful.
Thank you so much Bill! 😁👍
A seriously beautiful natural rim, and to see the vase being made was amazing, as well as educational. I would imagine a 'conventional' vase would be just as stunning, as it would also be blessed with the unique patterns Mother Nature has bestowed upon whichever tree you take your wood from. Great video, thank you!
Thank Max 😃👍
i love it.. its beautiful!
These guys are sooo awesome they could turn a question into an answer.

Brilliant. To see that in a lump of wood.
Thanks Etienne 😃👍
You need a lot of elements, to create such an object: Phantasy, knowledge, for the work, sensibility for the material and color and joy when working. You have. My compliments.
Many thanks Hagen 😃👍
The reason why we invented tools and techniques is because it is so satisfying to watch objects being made. Can't stop watching!
Glad to hear that Rondo2ooo. Keep watching 👀 😃👍

An absolute masterpiece! I've done woodturning, and I must admit I watched about half way , then jumped to the final reveal When I saw the live edge, my jaw dropped. You, sir, have exquisite taste and amazing skills.
I watched the whole thing. But then my wife is making me watch Annie Live with her tonight so I’m amusing myself with the iPad. But I have to agree, fantastic skills and amazing choice. The finished product is just amazing.

Beautiful and talented artist. This is one reason I want to see vocational schools all over the US so kids who have the potential can get the proper training and experience to develop talents like this.
That’s a good point.
Amen- We used to have these skills taught in school for good reason. Our society needs these craftspeople skills- welders, electricians, bridge builders. Etc.. Even the cooking , sewing and dietary skills were taken out.
Possibly because colleges and Universities are greedy.
Such a loss.
Hi Wendy, thanks for your comments. It would be great for that to happen 😃👍🏴
@@pwallace5359 Totally agree 👍

Very nice work on a beautiful wood. It's a beautiful looking bowl. Cherries are one of my favorite fruits and it's incredible how the wood reflects their sumptuous flavor.
I've worked cherry before and it's lovely wood to work with. It always makes me cringe a little when I see people chucking it on their home fires when it could become something beautiful

turn out a whole lot different than I thought it would, more of a pot than a long neck vase. would like to see that whole asymetrical log turned into a long vase.
Maybe next time Quinn 😃👍

As you were making the piece I was hoping you would keep some of that bark wood in the piece instead of removing it all. I'm glad you did. It looks beautiful.

I don't think I would call this a vase as it looks more like a bowl to me. Art is to be interpreted to the viewer. Regardless of how it's interpreted, this is such an amazing piece that I have no words that would be adequate in describing the beauty of it. Instant subscriber!!!
Thank you Malcom you are too kind and welcome to the channel 😃👍

You make it look so effortless but as someone that has carved on wood before, those hard wood can really blister your hands.

Pretty amazing that someone can look at a gnarly tree stump and see a beautiful bowl trapped inside. I guess it’s sort of like the quandary, “How do you carve an elephant from a slab of granite?” You just chip away everything that doesn’t look life an elephant!

Hello Harry, you made a great bowl, I like your finish with Danish oil and then Wood wax.
I believe this wood is a grafted part which is usually just above the ground level and causes this kind of deformation.
I also recently made such a bowl from cherry wood, but luckily I was able to keep a lot of the bark on the bowl. Cheers, Hans
Stay safe and keep turning
Thanks very much Hans! I believe you are correct, Stay safe 👍😊
I watch a lot of these woodturning videos. This is one of the best ones I've seen in a long time. I love it when the artists include the process of polishing the wood and seeing the wood grain pop on the screen. Fantastic job!!!

How nice it is to see something beautiful made by hand. So much of our media is devoted to people with no talent for anything. We live in a world of talking heads, so it nice to hands at work. Many of us tree huggers love things made of wood.
