Woodturning - Cherry Root ball to Amazing Vase

  • I was given a few of these Cherry Root balls a week ago and was so eager to get one on the lathe as I was expecting to see some beautiful grain .... I wasn't disappointed. So a massive thank you to family friend and donator, Andy!
The piece has been sanded to 7000 grit and finished with a coat of Danish oil and then Wood wax on top once the oil was dry. I wish I could have kept more of the bark on but unfortunately, the wood was too dry and most of it flew off the piece while turning.
Now its that part of the description where I say a massive thank you to all of my subscribers, as we've hit another massive milestone! 7000!!!!! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH, without your support none of this would be possible. 10k here we come 😁

    Disclaimer:
My videos are for entertainment purposes only. I am still relatively new to woodturning and some of my techniques might not be the "best" or safest. When using any tools or machinery always read and understand safety/manufacturers guidelines.
Yes, I'm aware that wearing gloves while woodturning is considered an unsafe practise. The gloves I wear are tight fitting and don’t have any loose threads. I wear them for the protection of my skin. This is a risk that I am willing to take, however I am still very conscious of the potential danger and I do not touch any spinning parts of the lathe. DO NOT do anything you don’t feel comfortable doing.

A seriously beautiful natural rim, and to see the vase being made was amazing, as well as educational. I would imagine a 'conventional' vase would be just as stunning, as it would also be blessed with the unique patterns Mother Nature has bestowed upon whichever tree you take your wood from. Great video, thank you!

I see some real symbolism here. Very painful to have all those cuts made, all the rough edges removed but when finished we're something valuable to God.

Really cool Harry, I’m going to buy a lathe. I haven’t done it since high school but back then I made some neat stuff. I will keep watching your station and pick your brain to get back into it. Thx man

Hello Harry, you made a great bowl, I like your finish with Danish oil and then Wood wax.
I believe this wood is a grafted part which is usually just above the ground level and causes this kind of deformation.
I also recently made such a bowl from cherry wood, but luckily I was able to keep a lot of the bark on the bowl. Cheers, Hans
    Stay safe and keep turning

I watch a lot of these woodturning videos. This is one of the best ones I've seen in a long time. I love it when the artists include the process of polishing the wood and seeing the wood grain pop on the screen. Fantastic job!!!

I also was given some cherry by Andy of Ashley and turned it into a very robust mallet. Congratulations on your success with this video.

Hi Leona, it’s nice meeting you here.. I’m Richard by name, it would be nice getting to know you better, if that’s ok with you? My mom once said good friends are never too much to have. if you don’t mind, can we be friends??
Lovely smile you got there on your profile picture, it can brighten up the most darkest atmosphere of any man’s world😉.

How nice it is to see something beautiful made by hand. So much of our media is devoted to people with no talent for anything. We live in a world of talking heads, so it nice to hands at work. Many of us tree huggers love things made of wood.
