Gwen wrote nasty letters to the doctors every year on the girls’ birthdays. Telling them how her girls are “kicking ass and taking names” because they lived another year past their life expectancy. Which I feel was uncalled for. The doctors were talking her what life would be like for the average child that had the same diagnoses as her daughters. Because they didn’t tell her…”your daughters will be unlike all the other children with microcephaly, they will outlive us all”. The doctor’s did the right thing when they told her what to expect. There was no need for her to send a “big FU” (as she called it) with a letter every year. And these girls suffered more in their lives than they enjoyed it. She would actually tell people that they are just like any other teenager…sassy and opinionated”….when you have severely disabled children like this, being delusional helps NO ONE. Least of all those girls.

If I'm not mistaken I believe he has a 50/50 genetic chance. Both parents carried a recessive genetic condition and the odds of have 2 children is astronomical. The parents probably have 1/4 each to produce 50/50 odds of 3 children realistically 2 children both girls I might add. It even could be that the mother carries a high gene for 50 and the dad 1/4 since the son doesn't carry a dominant gene. Buy otherwise I'm guess he does carry the gene but the odds of finding another person who carries it is slim. From what I can remember in science is it takes 2 people with the same recessive genetic abnormality to produce a child with such a rare condition. Especially two children with the condition.

Yeah, when you really do a deep dive into the blog and socials, you really understand how they weren't merely disable, but non-abled. They were offered no dignity and the mom made them look and seem more disgusting than they should have been. Those girls never hit any milestones and gwen refused them medication and chose the woo way... Until those children inevitably would need severe medical intervention. Of COURSE then medicine was ok for them. She's said holding them is a "holy experience" and how they could communicate blah blah... Their delusion about these children did nothing for them except gross people out, pushed the "typical" son aside and made up personalities for them all while using up resources which would never work for those children and could have gone to someone who could actually use it. She always lied to everyone and herself about their Dx and thought her children were an exception to the rule about people born with aspergine synthetase deficiency, which was their actual diagnosis... Yet she just kept trying to keep them the face of microcephaly when this and ALL of their other ailments were mere symptoms of the much worse problem.

I'm a mother. I have five children. One of my children is autistic and though he is nonverbal, he is teachable and *can* talk. If I had known ahead of his birth that he would be autistic, I would still have him. But if I were confronted with these kinds of disabilities, I would terminate. For one thing, you have to consider *the child* and what kind of life he or she would have. And for another, it needs to be considered what would be in store for the child after the death of the parents. These girls will never have independent lives. They will never know what it's like to have life experiences. That is not living. That is just existing, the way someone on a ventilator can only breathe when the machine is turned on. Yes, they are people who are part of a family that loves them. But they will never know what it's like to make choices of their own.

To give you an idea of how extreme their condition is, their eyes & ears are functional but they have such limited mental capabilities their brains can’t process what they see or hear. The mother’s attitude, her rudeness towards her husband and son, her grifting for money on social media, her callous disregard for the suffering she witnessed every day, her narcissistic fixation on herself and her own savior complex - is tragic. It took me 5 desperate years to fall pregnant with my first child. I was over the moon when I finally passed the 12 week mark, when a fetus is more likely to survive. I had all the usual ultrasound tests and the scans were fine, up until about 28 weeks, when it was discovered that I didn’t have enough amniotic fluid. Even then, nobody told me that there could be a big problem, all they said that I might need a caesarean, because the baby won’t be able to turn into the birthing position.
During the first 5 months of her life, my daughter was diagnosed with a coloboma in her left eye, which means that her eye didn’t develop. I was also told later she has microcephaly, although it is not as severe as for these poor sisters. At 11 she was diagnosed with autism and ADHD. Yet, she communicates in two languages and has such a sweet personality. She is otherwise healthy, hardly missed school with colds etc. But no matter how much we love her, life is often a struggle and her younger sister misses out on a lot of attention. I fell pregnant for the second time when my first child was 6 months old. At the time we had no huge concerns for the new baby, although I was monitored more carefully, having specific scans to check the development of the eyes, in case we have the same problems. Luckily, everything was fine.
I am sure, the parents loved all their children, but boy... that brother must have missed out on so much.

The mom literally chose to have another child knowing the risk of them being born with the same condition, to suffer with progressively worse conditions and not even make it to adulthood, then have the audacity to say they’re “thriving”. She purposely ignored doctors advice and was even wrote narcissistic letters to them to tell them that they were stupid for pointing out facts to her. I also feel sorry for the son as well, just as much as the two girl’s didn’t ask to be born the way they were he didn’t ask to be born “normal”. @@lexx1235 these children didn't just suffer mere microcephaly - though she tried to keep herself and those children the face of it. These children suffered from a degenerative brain disease (aspergine synthetase deficiency). Their brains started to atrophy basically in the womb or right after they were out of the womb. When you look at gwen's socials and blog, everyone can read for themselves how she imposed/made up personalities for them while offering them NO dignity. NO teen nor tween would want videos of their mom posting of vomiting, soiling themselves and the explosions being all over the husband. Even a 7 year old would be embarrassed of it. Gwen was selfish and dangerously delusional - she did NOTHING to spread real awareness like other moms who share what it's like to have a child with a rare illness. Did nothing to help science for other moms who have children with this down the road. She did this for her own selfish reasons. Anyone who cared SOOOOO much about their literal dying children, she sure took those immunocompromised children into public with seemingly no care. While I’m not discounting your struggles in life, the latter case is undoubtedly a horrible, painful, empty way to live; a life devoid of any quality. There is more to life than having vital signs, being spoon-fed like a newborn, and shitting. Please explain how that betrays a “lack of understanding of the disabled”? but they had _Claire_ first... and Claire's quality of life was fine! a lot BETTER than many ppl with spastic quadriplegia because she WAS so small. she could easily be picked up and moved, carried everywhere, she didn't need adapted bathtubs or lifting equipment or anything! you could bring her on vacation, hiking, shopping, movies (unlike infants, she rarely cried), it's not difficult to bring her wherever you were gonna go anyway, and that makes a MASSIVE DIFFERENCE in these people's quality of life.
but it was especially clear (even to strangers! her mom had a decent following on her blog) that Claire was fine because she was so chill and calm almost _all the time_ ... virtually everyone can, at the very least, communicate that they're uncomfortable or in pain, she was no exception.
so, no, she couldn't walk or talk or eat, but she apparently didn't care at all abt that, she was rarely cranky and she was physically comfortable.

my cousin had a daughter with microcephaly. She was diagnosed during mid stage of pregnancy through ultrasound, the doctor advised her to get a medical intervention, but she insisted on giving birth. And our family thought it was the most stupid decision. Her daughter at 7 years old couldn't talk, walk , eat and needed constant care like an infant, like wearing diapers etc. The child cried a lot due to the brain issues.
I think sometimes the most difficult and hard decisions can be the most right decision. If she has listened to doctor's advice, she would have lived all those 7 years without having to go through these all. No matter how tough it may sound, I don't understand those parents. Sometimes it's more humane to stop the suffering of these living beings . It's more humane

It really does bother me how so many people can be this much in denial describing these girls as having personalities and a keen desire to survive “because you can just feel it when you hold them”. What’s even more disturbing is that teachers and therapists do house calls “almost everyday”. WHY??? They are most likely blind and possibly deaf, with no potential for learning anything of any significance. They will never communicate, never walk and never ever take care of their own needs even feeding themselves.
If the parents wish to take on this burden, that is their right, but when it comes to using taxpayer dollars for a useless cause, I have a huge problem with that. We should not be forced as a society to subsidize their choices when anyone can see these poor children will never benefit from them.

There’s lots of chat about the parents, but not about the brother, Cal. I can only imagine that he’s so incredibly strong, he must have such mixed feelings knowing that he, as a kid, convinced his parents to not get an abortion now that he is grown up. It must have been so hard for him. I’m sure he’s an incredible, intelligent young man and I wish him all the best for the future.

@AMANDA WOOD This isn't a condition where you just need more attention. These children are barely processing anything, if they process anything at all. They are deaf, blind, can't speak, walk or talk. Plus the disease worsens with time. Every movement they make is a mere reflex. How can you classify that as life? That's a horrible state to be in constantly just because us humans can't let go of this goofy concept that everything and everyone put on this earth has to make sense or stay until it/they naturally die.
