Their mother is an absolute crackpot. Seriously. She has also ruined her son's life, she would force the twins onto him and NOT let him have a moment of his own. Do you know what that can do to a person? How it can massively affect their confidence and self-esteem. To feel overshadowed constantly. Cal loved his sisters that's easy to see, but his mom would make his sister's be in his prom photos. She made the twins be involved in his games. Like why? Let him have an achievement to himself.

Gwen wrote nasty letters to the doctors every year on the girls’ birthdays. Telling them how her girls are “kicking ass and taking names” because they lived another year past their life expectancy. Which I feel was uncalled for. The doctors were talking her what life would be like for the average child that had the same diagnoses as her daughters. Because they didn’t tell her…”your daughters will be unlike all the other children with microcephaly, they will outlive us all”. The doctor’s did the right thing when they told her what to expect. There was no need for her to send a “big FU” (as she called it) with a letter every year. And these girls suffered more in their lives than they enjoyed it. She would actually tell people that they are just like any other teenager…sassy and opinionated”….when you have severely disabled children like this, being delusional helps NO ONE. Least of all those girls.

This mother called her severely disabled children a “freak show” on social media. Think about it. The girls have died. These two children lived in severe pain and suffering until they passed. The mother’s attitude, her rudeness towards her husband and son, her grifting for money on social media, her callous disregard for the suffering she witnessed every day, her narcissistic fixation on herself and her own savior complex - is tragic. It took me 5 desperate years to fall pregnant with my first child. I was over the moon when I finally passed the 12 week mark, when a fetus is more likely to survive. I had all the usual ultrasound tests and the scans were fine, up until about 28 weeks, when it was discovered that I didn’t have enough amniotic fluid. Even then, nobody told me that there could be a big problem, all they said that I might need a caesarean, because the baby won’t be able to turn into the birthing position.
During the first 5 months of her life, my daughter was diagnosed with a coloboma in her left eye, which means that her eye didn’t develop. I was also told later she has microcephaly, although it is not as severe as for these poor sisters. At 11 she was diagnosed with autism and ADHD. Yet, she communicates in two languages and has such a sweet personality. She is otherwise healthy, hardly missed school with colds etc. But no matter how much we love her, life is often a struggle and her younger sister misses out on a lot of attention. I fell pregnant for the second time when my first child was 6 months old. At the time we had no huge concerns for the new baby, although I was monitored more carefully, having specific scans to check the development of the eyes, in case we have the same problems. Luckily, everything was fine.
I am sure, the parents loved all their children, but boy... that brother must have missed out on so much.

Their condition is degenerative so their mental function would actually regress from that. To give you an idea of how extreme their condition is, their eyes & ears are functional but they have such limited mental capabilities their brains can’t process what they see or hear. I definitely agree there are some conditions where looks don’t determine anything, but in the case of microcephaly I would argue the looks don’t tell enough. Your brain is responsible for so so much and even minor under developments can be detrimental. In cases like this where it’s severely underdeveloped and regresses, there is no quality of life.

but they had _Claire_ first... and Claire's quality of life was fine! a lot BETTER than many ppl with spastic quadriplegia because she WAS so small. she could easily be picked up and moved, carried everywhere, she didn't need adapted bathtubs or lifting equipment or anything! you could bring her on vacation, hiking, shopping, movies (unlike infants, she rarely cried), it's not difficult to bring her wherever you were gonna go anyway, and that makes a MASSIVE DIFFERENCE in these people's quality of life.
but it was especially clear (even to strangers! her mom had a decent following on her blog) that Claire was fine because she was so chill and calm almost _all the time_ ... virtually everyone can, at the very least, communicate that they're uncomfortable or in pain, she was no exception.
so, no, she couldn't walk or talk or eat, but she apparently didn't care at all abt that, she was rarely cranky and she was physically comfortable.

Of COURSE then medicine was ok for them. She's said holding them in a "holy experience" and how they could communicate blah blah... Their delusion about these children did nothing for them except gross people out, pushed the "typical" son aside and made up personalities for them all while using up resources for them which would never work for those children and could have gone to someone who could actually use it. She always lied to everyone and herself about their Dx and thought her children were an exception to the rule about people born with aspergine synthetase deficiency, which was their actual diagnosis... Yet she just kept trying to keep them the face of microcephaly when this and ALL of their other ailments were mere symptoms of the much worse problem.

I'm a mother. I have five children. One of my children is autistic and though he is nonverbal, he is teachable and *can* talk. If I had known ahead of his birth that he would be autistic, I would still have him. But if I were confronted with these kinds of disabilities, I would terminate. For one thing, you have to consider *the child* and what kind of life he or she would have. And for another, it needs to be considered what would be in store for the child after the death of the parents. These girls will never have independent lives. They will never know what it's like to have life experiences. That is not living. That is just existing, the way someone on a ventilator can only breathe when the machine is turned on. Yes, they are people who are part of a family that loves them. But they will never know what it's like to make choices of their own.

The parents probably have 1/4 each to produce 50/50 odds of 3 children realistically 2 children both girls I might add. It even could be that the mother carries a high gene for 50 and the dad 1/4 since the son doesn't carry a dominant gene. Buy otherwise I'm guess he does carry the gene but the odds of finding another person who carries it is slim. From what I can remember in science is it takes 2 people with the same recessive genetic abnormality to produce a child with such a rare condition. Especially two children with the condition.

To anyone calling these people monsters for laughing when their third child had microcephaly as well, that is laughter out of shock, it's actually a pretty normal response from your brain when it doesn't know how to process a shocking situation. The father said so as well. Besides that, I completely agree with everything you're saying since this couple made their children suffer chronically for years for what reason even? Attention? A feeling of moral duty?

    • @bergercookie

Why would they be in shock when they already knew the risk of their genetics to carry these defects & diseases ? I’m sure they were in shock of how stupid they were to be surprised. I realize some people think it’s so caring that they gave these babies a chance to live and exist even in their conditions. But once they already had one child living most of its life sitting in a toddlers chair I think it’s more cruel to risk bringing another baby into this world to suffer the same fait knowing how fragile their existence was. May both angels rip 🙏🏼🙏🏼

I feel bad for their son. When his parents get too old to care for his sisters they'll likely make him their caretaker instead of turning the girls over to a qualified home with 24/7 medical care because they don't really seem to understand how sick they are. All of the mother's blogs read like the girls are absolutely normal girls for their age with their own personalities and independent thoughts while she forces the girls into every aspect of her son's life, including his prom photos with his dates and making them the 'mascots' of her son's sports team. I hope her son can live his own life for once out of the spotlight.

Ji Mi i can assure you that they don't want that for Cal. even if they did, Cal is their brother and loves them so i'm sure he would do it in a heart beat. as far gwen treating them "normal" you've got to realize that she's trying to have them live the most normal life possible and she is determined to treat them as people and not as freaks. she doesn't feel bad for them, it's just the cards they were dealt and they do the best they can with their circumstances.
please open your eyes and realize that your body is just a vessel. it carries your spirit, energy/life force, soul and the like, but it doesn't define the person living inside of it. there are people in those sick bodies! they want to be just like anyone else and their parents are providing that to them

Wow. Do you know anything about their son?
Have you read about how grateful he is for his sisters? How he feels that they have made him a better person?
I think that some people to look at these girls and only find the negative. It takes GOOD people, people who can see the positive, who know that life is about more than "having it all" and appearing perfect on your IG feed, people who are willing to give of themselves in order to make someone else's life better, to embrace this life.
Heck. What would you have them do? Moan and whine about how hard their lives are?
Instead they accept it. And they pour love into those girls and their son that any child would be lucky to have.
Please don't feel sorry for their son. His experiences with his family have created in him an outlook and personality that most of us would do well to encounter. No, don't feel sorry for him. Feel sorry for those who just can't look past the disabilities, who can't fathom the love that awaits when you give of yourself until it hurts. A life changing love. Feel sorry for those who wouldn't hesitate to terminate children like these sweet girls, and would rid themselves of any difficulty or hurdle in life that would cause discomfort or sacrifice. Those are the folks we should feel sorry for.
