  • Before I get started on the DJI Pocket 3 screen issue & This may be why, I want to mention how much I am really enjoying the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 and how I really think it's a powerhouse of a pocket sized camera.
    With that being said, there have been some people that have developed a screen issue with the Pocket 3, some right after 1st taking it out of the box after receiving it, some that got this issue after a few days or weeks of using it.
    It basically makes the screen useless for turning on/off or for switching from vertical or horizontal video and I don't know if DJI is using magnets inside to lock the screen or if it's a spring mechanism of some type, but I'm sure someone will do a disassemble video of a Pocket 3 to show how the screen works and what the issue is ( It would be a VIRAL video for sure) !
    Here are my thoughts on what "might" be causing the issue with the DJI Pocket 3's screen.
    Tell me in the comment section your thoughts and if it has happened to you!

    I don't pull the body out of the case but pulling the case apart so the body pop out.
    DJI POCKET 3 has elevated itself to such position that it beats DSLR/Mirrorless cameras in many key areas considering price point. Imagine if, the next generation of the Dji pocket 3 makes improvements in focal length ( addition of 85mm, 35mm) backed by bigger sensor, then the game is over for big camera industries like Canon, Sony, Nikon etc, as the form factor aline so awesome & practical.

    Good chance you’re right…. I’ve always felt that the design of the case was extremely poor, and the execution of manufacture was cheesy at best. Personally I don’t use the case at all on any of my pocket cameras; I leave them on a tripod and handle them with the tripod during use. The case really should have more thought put into it, I think they’ve always been bad.

      I have had so far only the DJI Osmo Mobile 4 and 6 (for iPhone SE, 12 Mini and 15) but the case stuff is so true. Basically a super cheap baggy on the OM4 and a not slightly better hardcase on the OM6.
      Since they were cheaper products i did not mind it that much, also the gimbals are in the pocket anyways without any bag or so to put into. But on the Pocket 3 for THAT PRICE i would have expected a lot better build quality (the screen assembly is horrendous...) and a better fitting and protecting (from dust etc), yet "small" case.

  • @juhaaavalaakso455

    DJI always failed with the cases. Pocket 2 was scratching the gimbal. I noticed it too that Case is too tight for Pocket 3 and those sides takes grip of the screen. If certain light you can also see that there are marks in the screen where case touches it. So yes the case is pulling the screen off. This is why I very soon stopped using that case. Even big eye glasses case would do better job.

    I would like to see how the pocket 3 looks inside. Because i am wondering why DJI decided to make the battery built in which i dont like. What about the internals made dji not want to have the battery removable. And i always thought the case wasnt great. And i also think the usb port and tripod mount shouldve just been part of the main unit. The extra attachment is to big for what it gives you. And it should also have a magnetic mounting system like the action 4.

  • @veronicabrown9837
    @veronicabrown9837 10 месяцев назад +3

    I believe that the screen snaps into position and is held in its relative positions by attracting magnets on the back of the screen/the handle body.
    I am guessing that someone in the assembly line mounted those magnets backwards, now so instead of attracting they are now repulsing. Instead of magnetically snapping into place at the 90 degree position, the screen stops at a 45 degree angle (in between the magnets) and is now “torn between two magnets” which would explain the jittering screen that some owners have observed.
    Still needs fixing or replacing of course.

    • @WORTHITORNOT
      @WORTHITORNOT  10 месяцев назад +2

      I understand your point, but many people are indicating that theirs worked for a few days/weeks just fine then the screen issue happened so if the magnets were installed incorrectly at the factory, those units would not work at all. I hope someone does a tear down so we can see the insides and know once and for all what's causing this. From the 4 e-mails I received from people that seen this video, they said theirs failed right after trying to take it out of a "tight" case and they felt a lot of resistance, then when trying to turn it on, the screen went wonky.

    I hope you're right and that Dji will issue new designed cases. Ok, I'm writing this first and if someone later says they stole the idea from me :)
    Since the screen is held by a magnet and a strong one at that (neodymium?), such a magnet may become demagnetized by high temperature (if you put any magnet in the oven).
    During long recording, the camera heats up and maybe this temperature is enough to weaken the effect of the magnet?

    • @WORTHITORNOT
      @WORTHITORNOT  6 месяцев назад +1

      I saw on a RUclips video someone said that the screen is a spring design and the anchor point's on them are plastic inside the camera and can break easily when flipping it open/closed hard. I have used mine is some extreme temperatures and on very long shoots where the camera was very hot around the gimbal area and mine (knock on wood) is still fine. I still personally think that the case does pull the screen away from the camera body and that leads to the issue. Hopefully one day someone will take it completely apart and show us how the screen mechanism works.

    I think we need a teardown and show us what the internals look like... but with all manufacturing there can be assembly or component problems and these often come in batches. Several times I have returned products and the manufacturer has admitted that mine was one of the bad batch. So, these screen problems should be covered by warranty. If not, then if you have DJI refresh then you should be able to get a replacement (at a cost). but if a bad batch then DJI should replace it free of charge.

      Could be, like I said it’s just my opinion as to what it might be. Possibly not all the cases are that tight or maybe some are pulling it out of the case a bit too forcibly. If it’s a production issue, then why so few with the issue? Until someone takes it apart or DJI updates everyone as to the cause we won’t know for sure.

    • @FriedChairs
      @FriedChairs 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@WORTHITORNOT A small percentage supports the idea that it’s a production issue. It’s small because the person assembling the parts that are causing the issue only rarely makes a mistake. Also, they probably didn’t know this product would be as popular as it is so they are rushing to get these made and adding inexperienced assemblers who are going to make some mistakes. They need to either do a redesign of the components or poke yoke the assembly process so the mistake is less likely to occur. Also, they need to update their testing so they catch the issue before it’s approved. I’m not saying you’re wrong. You could be right and time will tell. I’m an engineer for an auto manufacturer. The Pocket 3 swivel display is another form of switch with an audible detent when operated. Still, I will operate it no more roughly than any other switch on any of the devices I own that I intend to enjoy using for many years. I just checked my pocket 3 and if you look closely at the screen it actually is a few millimeters smaller than the actual body. There’s no way the actual screen touches the case. So personally I don’t think the case is the problem.
    When I saw that it had moving parts I purchased dji 2 year care refresh just in case anything happens. Up to four replacements in 2 years.
    When paying that kind of money for a device it’s worth having some kind of extended warranty/insurance on the device. So far I’ve had no problems and find it very easy to put in and out of the case. I would say out of hundreds of thousands already sold there’s probably been a few people that are not very careful with their devices. It’s only my opinion and in all products there’s always going to be a few that will be faulty right from the get go.

    • @deni28kali
      @deni28kali 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@WORTHITORNOT yes they definitely taper towards the bottom of the case and after looking carefully at those two bumps I personally think they are correct. Such a cool camera. To bad it has 3 design issues that bug me.
    1. This issue with the screen would be one. Well not sure if this is actually due to design.
    2. DJI Camera bag with bundle doesn't fit camera in it's hard case. You have to leave that case out. Just an inch or 2 longer on the bag would have solved this.
    3. Not enough room for the the gimble to close properly with a filter on it. Yes the gimble turns around and you can still fit it in the case but again, just an inch of space would have solved this.
    4. Also wished the camera rotated vertically like my Mini 3 Pro to get the full 4K instead of 3K resolution.

    If you recall, the first thing I said when I saw the Pocket 3 was that I wondered how stable and secure the screen is. Having said that, the screen mechanism doesn't look that robust. Could be dust or moisture ingress if the gap is as big as you think it is. People can also use a camera after going from an air conditioned car to outside without allowing for acclimatisation. The case issue could also be a valid reason.

    I think people are putting pressure on the mechanism in the wrong direction. It's natural to twist it to the right to turn it off. I found it's good to use the notch to push and pull with the thumb.
    Also, the reason you probably get a click when placing it in the case is because on your video, it doesn't appear you are sliding the gimbal end flush in the case. That gap causes misalignment. This is in the instructions, and I've never had the click. That being said, I never thought about squeeze pressure.. 🤔
    Thanks for addressing this! 👊🏾😎

      In one of DJI’s videos it states to push the bottom of the Pocket 3 into the case until you hear a click. I’ll see if I can find it. Thanks for watching and commenting, it helps the community !

    These are great products. The issue I have with dji is they want so much of your information just to use there products straight out of the gate.

      I can understand that, the whole activation process is a bit much imo

    I’ve found when putting back the Osmo Pocket 3 back in the case I first put the gimbal head first leaving the bottom end slightly tilted then sliding the bottom towards the top and it will slide right in the case instead of pushing the bottom end down against the bottom part of the case. Definitely a bad design for the case but this has been working for me without having to force the pocket 3 back in the case. I’ve done this method over a hundred times during my vacation and has been my solution without damaging the Osmo 3! Hopefully third party manufactures make a better one to use in the near future.

      Glad you're doing as I do with removing the Pocket 3 from it's case. Maybe someone will do a tear down video showing how the screen works and what causes this issue.

    My husband wants me to get this for him, I’m sending him a link to this video and see if he still wants it.

      You should still get it for him ! It's a fantastic little camera, just tell him about the case being too tight, last night I bent my case on the sides so it would be a bit wider and now the Pocket 3 is not tight at all.
