- Today we look at a relic from the past. Is the Digitech Metal Master a good pedal? We've seen it go through the FX Loop but does it sound good as a pedal board rig?

I actually bought one back in 2012. I remember saving a part of my money for school so that I can save enough. This was my first ever distortion pedal to put on my crappy Fender Frontman 10G and man, what a difference it was back in the day for my ears... The "chugging" sounded so brutal in comparison to the wean ass overdrive that the little practice amp had. Later on, of course, I upgraded my gear and realized how bad this pedal was being compared to other products on the marked but it took place in my personal history and I appreciate my time spent with it. I was still learning the basics of metal guitar riffing so hard chugging on high gain was really inspiring to me to learn more and I think that's the important part, at least for my case with the pedal - the inspiration that gave me back in the day. Happily, the kids now have way better opportunities for less money. :)
I like it. I saw a comment on someone else's review that they used it to get a Napalm Death tone and that sounds right to me. I think people are just strumming a little without dialing it in to their liking and moving on.
I have one, not a guitarist, I make dark ambient industrial dub, vocal samples drones, bowed objects abd a lot of pedals. Im getting rud an excessive amount of drive pedals. Im keeping this, the Digitech Death Metal, a Rat clone and my Berry Metal Zone clone. The reason is the feature set, cab sim, mixer out, and the morph control, its got a great filter sweep sound.
Very usable tones here, nicely done!
Thanks dude it blends well with the backing tracks well. Im looking forward to getting the death metal pedal next.
Wow. You are the only one I’ve seen make this pedal sound good. Lol. Awesome man!
It's actually a decent pedal and the eq is whats important for me to tone match. I'm looking to get the Death Metal distortion next.
Sounds great, I love my Grindr too, excellent boost.
GupTech makes awesome pedals
I feel bad, this has been my fave for ages
WIth a good IR you can get a great tone out of this.
Sounds massive
Yeah dude its awesome.
Great pedal, I also have one, I believe it sounds better then the boss metal pedals.
Its uniquely voiced and it stands out on its own. I dont understand why it got so much hate back in the day. Considering it had a mixer out option, that was really awesome to have.
I got one of those off a friend for 20 bucks. Damn.
the tone is a little too scooped for my tastes, would be really hard to make it fit in a mix. but for the price it could get you through a live show or 2 as a backup amp if u had some issues with your main rig.
Does this pedal work through the effects loop?
Absolutely, it sounds great even without a boost.
So are you boosting the metal pedal bro?
3:50 onwards yes
