Nice video man. I've had one for 4 years, I certainly enjoy it. It performs well with clean tones as well. Gets a little coursey when dropping down to a baritone but still good enough.
Yea using it with my 6 string PRS tuned in an alternate Drop B, I have my low in A# and actually makes the pedal worthless to me ha. I don’t own one but a friend of mine does and I have demo’d it. I agree it’s good for a guitar in standard tuning trying to drop only a half or whole step but that’s it. Unless you just want some gnarly Korn sounding “Here to Stay” drop, then using a guitar already detuned with it you can pull off some cool little parts here and there but mostly just sounds like an extremely muddy fuzz.🤘🎸🤘
Great demo of this cool pedal! I could totally see someone using this video to decide if they wanted that pedal or not (that's what I've done before; RUclips is awesome for that). So, from my experience in playing tuba in classical music and bass guitar & cello in classic rock cover bands; once you get past a certain lower point on the sound frequency chords and intervals other than a perfect 5th (7 semitones) sound really warble-y no matter what. Even if you had multiple bass guitars all with perfect setups to play chords with each other, if they play them low enough the chords start to get really muddy. I could have misinterpreted what you said in this video, but it's not really the pedal that is causing that muddiness; it's just how low frequency chords sound. Otherwise killer demo, definitely got a sub from me! Looking forward to more vid's!
Hey thanks for the compliment! You’re absolutely right. I think for both guitar and bass, this pedal is still the most useful when you keep it within 1-2 semitones. Aside the the warbles, latency starts to become noticeable and that makes it a bit difficult to articulate… but again, I think this lil guy holds up pretty well! Thanks for the insight! And thanks for watching! 🤘🏼😜
@@sutherlandnoah in general, the lower the chords, the more warble-y it will sound. E standard will be the least warble-y, D standard will be a little more and B standard will be even more. And that has nothing to do with you guitar setup or string gauge, it’s just how our ears interpret low pitched chords.
@@warmfoxx3801I gotcha, thank you for the reply! Really helped cleared it up. I was unsure of whether it was the pedal doing that or our ears capabilities
I started to play in a Cover Band (I have been playing live for around 10 years but only in bands with original music), so I started to use my POD Go to change tunings for a LOT of songs, but it wasn't good enough, the pitch shifter doesn't sound good enough after 1 semi-tone, so I had to bought this one....and it's an amazing Pedal
I have the whammy dt. It has basically the drop in it but it can also shift up as well. Super powerful tool. Among the best tracking too so long as you dont get too extreme with the settings.
Nice! I have an old classic whammy hidden away back home in the states. I used to love that thing. The only thing that stops me from putting it back on a board is its size.. I am scaling down and smaller form factor is something I strive for. Thanks for watching! 🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic that's exactly why I don't use mine. Its packed away neatly in its original box. I now use the pitchfork+. It covers all the bases that the whammy hits but in a smaller form factor and I use a mission expression pedal. I'm able to have my expression where I want it on my board and I can put the pitchfork+ wherever it fits best on the board. No need to plan for a massive pedal like the whammy dt. Dont get me wrong the whammy is awesome. Its just got a huge footprint.
@@MadManMusic yes. And it can be a true artform to build a massive board and find ways to add more pedals and extra features. And make it all look pretty. Looking pretty, I'm still working on but my pedal board always turns heads. At least I'm able to hide all the cabled mess under the hood. Next I wanna get it all under control. Also when I'm building a board, I find that pedals that dictate how I have to build the board just because of their size, ill forget about other important aspects. Ill make mistakes on pedal placement and planning ahead. So I'm learning to avoid huge pedals when possible. I'm starting to put my foot into the world of pedalboard design. My first board was far from a marketable product but I'm over here making mistakes and learning. I'm on my third "finished" board right now and preparing for number 4. I plan to make this next one pretty. I got my construction worked out. Time to break out some paints and get creative and master cable management. If things go well I have an innovative new design that could change how cable management is approached when building pedal boards. And like many good ideas, this one is so simple its stupid.
I just tested it against the VST Pitchproof. The vst (no idea how something like from DSP fares) really doesn´t hold a candle against the pitch correction of the pedal.
Real Time Transposition is Tough no matter what. I’ve had much more luck with a physical pedal than with any VSTs.. they are fine when you’re in the mixing process, but not in the “Live” setting. They add a lot of latency.. 🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic didn't have a problem with latency with the pedal or the vst. But everything unter standard D becomes mud when played as a chord. The drop is still fine but the pitchproof isn't. But to it's credit, I think this vst is over 10 years old, I really need to try something from DSP for example.
So, as someone new to guitars, I’m constantly frustrated when I find a song I could probably learn easily, but it’s in drop D or Drop C tuning…this pedal would mean I could just get that tuning at the push of a button/turn of a switch?
I started to investigate more about thie pedal i am thinking of having only 2 guitars and cover all kind of music and any tuning. I would like to have this equipment: 1. Charvel Dk 24 HH 2. Gibson SG Tribute 3. Line 6 Pod Go 4. Digitech Drop Pedal 5. Any speaker to make sound pass through

Pedal works great. Be very careful about the power source. I fried one using the wrong power cord. I used 8-38 strings tuned up to G standard above E standard and used the drop to get it low. It like a bright source so try using the lightest guage strings you can stand
I mentioned in the video the pedal runs on 9v 300mA. Thats is Crazy Light! I’ve only ever known one person to play 8’s. A boss of mine back in the day. 8’s and Suuuuuper Tiny Frets. But man.. thats Strat played like Butter! 🤘🏼😜
Bought one new for $170 on Black Friday and I think it sounds amazing on 1-3, 4 and below gets meh but I NEVER play anything below D Standard/ Drop C except the occasional Slipknot song, which is just for fun lol
For a floyd rose guitar player I needed this one and it arrived today...otherwise I have to order more 2 floyd guitars 😂 do this pedal improve your tone actually? Or it's only for drop tuning? Great video btw. What's the model of your guitar.
Thanks for the compliment! There should be "minimal" effect to your tone. So it only drops the pitch. Its a great pedal, especially for Floyd Players!! ...but new Guitars are cool too. 😉 🤘🏼😜
Truthfully I have not come across one that works as well as the Drop Does. Outside of paying a bit more for a larger more capable Effects Processor. Definitely keep an eye on the Second Hand Market! 🤘🏼😜
Absolutely! Again, I would use it Sparingly. Its great for the 1 or 2 Oddball Songs that are Detuned a bit. I wouldn’t use it “Always On” so to speak. Thanks for watching!! 🤘🏼😜
the "tone" isn't holding up as well because you have things eq'd for your standard tuning - when you use this pedal you have to plan ahead. chords just get sloppier the lower tuned you go, that's why bass isn't playing chords the whole time.
Im new to your channel man love it. Good stuff. I have a drop pedal they're awesome but I dropped the drop pedal now its a broken pedal. Made in chine hey haha. Love your work mate. Do more esp stuff please
It sounds pretty transparent to me… So long as Im not dropping it down to the extreme. Then of course it has a hard time keeping up. Thanks for watching! 🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusici agree with you. It's pretty transparent in a standard e guitar . But i guess you wouldn't equalize a standard E 6 setting the same way you would EQ an 8 dropped string guitar.. so if you would use it to it's extreme that would be a factor to take in.. i had a whammy several years ago.. i never used it past 3semitones .. but when I used the lower (at least my lower tuning) i instantly use another preset with different gain and EQ in my pedalboard to compensate a little the sound post whammydroped Even if you use an 8 string guitar the same EQ that I use in my 6 just doesn't fit the same ..
Great video mate! Quick question, can we switch between the drop tuning and standard tuning by pressing the footswitch? Coz some 7 strings songs need the lows for the bottom strings and the highs for the solo stuff on the top strings.
Not "drop" tuning, meaning Standard to Drop D leaving 5 of the string unprocessed. I don't think we're there yet as far as pitch manipulation.. at least not in such a small pedal form. 🤘😜
Did you have any issues with latency with the pedal? I play just at home but constantly jump back and forth between tunings with songs. Would love to have something like this to help that.
With a pitch shifter pedal there will always be a small amount of latency. But it’s totally usable. As I mention in the video, it should only give you trouble when you’re tuning it down a lot. 2-4 steps and thats about the limit. 🤘🏼😜
Hey mate I play a 7 string in drop A Looking to add 1 or 2 songs in drop g tuning. Does this hold up on the lower string dropping by 2 semitones. Ps love your work, your reviews help me a lot
Hey! I’m glad you enjoy the videos! If you’re only dropping 1 or 2 steps, it will work fine. I also play in Drop A regularly and I haven’t had any issues tuning down a whole step. 🤘🏼😜
I think I mentioned that in the video. But It depends on the use-case. I'll actually be Publishing a New Video on this very topic this Sunday! Turn on "All Notifications" So you don't miss it! 🤘🏼😜
Does this apply from the starting point of the natural tuning? My band is about to go to drop G on a 7 string and I want to use this for dropping it 1 more semi-tone to drop F#. Better to start in G# and just do the 1 semi instead of standard down 3-4 semis?
@@ChrisKennedyGuitars yeah pretty much I’d day no more then 3 semitones but if you can only go down 2 semitones for best results. I’d just try it out and see how it works.

Got to be honest, I like the look of the Drop... I'm sure it is something my Helix can do but I've read that this feature uses stupid amounts of DSP. I'd be interested to hear how it sounds taking Drop B to Drop G on a baritone? Any chance you could drop a vid with your 7 going down to G or similar Matt? TIA, Ste.
Probably would be great with helix as a pre signal or loop. This way you can free up processing poseer and if you’re not using it as a loop you can free up a slot. The variax was great for that
It would total work well in front of the Helix. I wouldnt recommend it being in the loop. You want it to process your cleanest signal. So it needs to be one of the first pedals in the chain. 🤘🏼😜
My question is you know how for E standard you play power chords using 3 fingers or 2 if you got some long fingers .if I use this and tune say down to a D using the pedal can I play it as if it was in d tuning where I can use one finger to play the 3 strings or do I have to play it as say a power chord as if it was in E standard if it makes sense
It pitches down every string equally, so it all depends which tuning you begin in. If you start in E Standard, you will have to play E standard power chords no matter how much you pitch shift with the pedal. Likewise, if you start in drop D, you'll continue to play drop d power chords after pitching down.
@@shemaghs9984 doesn’t answer the question.since both e standard and d are considered power chords regardless the question is do you play the chords as if it’s still in e standard or do you switch to playing the day d tuning as a power chord using all 3 fingers or do you just switch to playing as if it’s d tuned which you only need one finder to activate the power chords is the wuestion
The pedal will “drop” the pitch of any signal going into it. So it will not change your “type” of tuning. If you’re in standard tuning, you will remain in standard tuning. 🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic that doesn’t answer the question I’m not talking about the running I’m talking about the finger placement I have an understanding of the pedal and what it does but y’all fail to answer the finger placement.so the question is if I’m in e standard and I’m using 3 fingers to play power chords like most players do.then I hit the pedal and drop to D.do I play the chords like if e standard with all 3 fingers or do I switch to play it as if it was d tuned and only play using one finger to press the power chord like I’m d tuning.so the question isn’t about that it’s about finger placement🤦♂️
@@JulioHernandez-vi9to If you are in E standard and use the pedal to drop to D, it will not exclusively pitch down the low string in a conventional Drop D sense; it will pitch shift all of the strings down, which means you'll continue to play in E Standard power chord formation (3 fingers).

I think its pretty comparable. I also have a Kemper and if I were in a situation where I needed to detune my entire guitar all as once I think I would choose to use the Drop over the Kemper just so save on processing power. But really it probably wouldn't matter that much. The Kemper (as well as all the other high dollar modelers) is very capable! I hope that helps! 🤘🏼😜

I'm publishing a new video about this pedal this Sunday! I put a bunch of use cases to the test! Turn on All Notifications so you don't miss it!
🤘🏼😜
🤘🏼😜
So if my guitar was already in D standard, would it sound less warbly if I put it in b standard than if I had dropped it from e standard?
Awesome! Im glad it works for you!
🤘🏼😜
I totally get ya! That real estate is Precious!
🤘🏼😜
So, as someone new to guitars, I’m constantly frustrated when I find a song I could probably learn easily, but it’s in drop D or Drop C tuning…this pedal would mean I could just get that tuning at the push of a button/turn of a switch?

the "tone" isn't holding up as well because you have things eq'd for your standard tuning - when you use this pedal you have to plan ahead. chords just get sloppier the lower tuned you go, that's why bass isn't playing chords the whole time.

So long as Im not dropping it down to the extreme. Then of course it has a hard time keeping up.
Thanks for watching!
🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusici agree with you. It's pretty transparent in a standard e guitar . But i guess you wouldn't equalize a standard E 6 setting the same way you would EQ an 8 dropped string guitar.. so if you would use it to it's extreme that would be a factor to take in.. i had a whammy several years ago.. i never used it past 3semitones .. but when I used the lower (at least my lower tuning) i instantly use another preset with different gain and EQ in my pedalboard to compensate a little the sound post whammydroped
Even if you use an 8 string guitar the same EQ that I use in my 6 just doesn't fit the same ..

It's around half the price of the Whammy DT with about a quarter of the functionality. If you've got the cash, spring for the Whammy DT instead.
Having the full functionality of the DT would be great, but the footprint of that pedal is massive… whereas the Drop is nice and compact. But sure! If you can spare the cash and the pedal board space.
🤘🏼😜
I bet its better going down lower with active pickups
Meh... The extra output does add some signal for the pedal to chew on... but not enough to make it work better than it does with passives.
