  • I take the train on the Cotswold Line to Moreton-in-Marsh, then a bus to Stow-on-the-Wold. I then do a walk, taking in the sights of both towns and villages along the way, back to Moreton-in-Marsh. I also have a look around Moreton's lively street market.

I have never seen that door with the beautiful trees, so I am glad you included it. The yew in Broadwell's churchyard was wonderful. Loved the sounds of the acorns falling. Great walk, thank you.

I loved this walk, and I did something I don't normally do - a tour of a market (when only because it had gotten quieter when I had returned back to Moreton - it was very busy when I arrived in the morning). Yes, that door has become a huge Instagram hit - the wear on the path and grass surrounding it can testify to that! Several Instagrammers there with selfie sticks, after I quickly took the shot and moved out of their way. Thank you, yes, I wasn't sure if my mic would pick it up, bit you can hear them (acorns falling) if you listen carefully. I don't think I have heard that before - probably because it was very quiet around at that spot. Thanks again for a lovely comment, take care, Paul.

Another Great Opening Paul! 💕 Music was so joyful and I loved the Park Benches! They looked like church pews 😳 Such a wonderful tour from such a knowledgeable tour guide 🤫 i can’t believe you don’t do any research 😳 That makes it even more astounding 🫡 I loved seeing the interior of the church and the famous tree 💞 Thumbs up for Stow-on-the-Wold! 👍 The well was intriguing as you remarked. Hear! Hear! For The Monarch’s Way Association. “Bang Crash Wallop” was a new expression to me, but Brilliant. 🤣 The Parish church was quite stately as was the Ewe tree. 400 years old? Amazing 🇬🇧 Paul you are wished continued success. Thanks for such enjoyable videos 🇨🇦🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡

Thank you for a really considered and kind comment Don. I guess having been born and brought up in Gloucestershire and having cycle toured around the area in my youth has its advantages! However, much of the places here, apart from the centre of the two towns, I had not seen before. I particularly enjoyed Broadwell. Thanks so much, take care, Paul 👍🙂

@@westcountrywanderings You’re so welcome Paul! My Dad’s Father was born in London and Gloucestershire and Worcestershire are high on my bucket list. @@DonSalmonMusic Thanks Don! I have been to Northern Ireland a few times (before I started my channel)- love it there! Another RUclipsr, Steve Marsh (a Scottish chap - brilliant channel) has recently done a video on the only inhabited NI island (Rathlin Island). I went there about five years ago - simply stunning! Yes, I guess I am biased, but there is much to see in Gloucestershire and Worcestershire, as well as the other parts of the Westcountry that I cover. Thanks again, Paul 👍😊

Thank you Michael! I don't know that area at all; it is funny that although I have moved during my working life, it has nearly only ever been in the West: Devon, Cornwall & Gloucestershire and West Oxfordshire, although I did work for a spell in Essex - a beautiful, and underrated county, with the most islands of any county in England. Too far to travel from where I live now though! Thanks for watching Michael! Take care, Paul.

Thanks Paul. Great video. Very peaceful walk and I was interested to see Stow and Moreton and the villages in between. Yes, very big houses and so quiet. Retired judges and military people probably. I loved the countryside and falling acorns and I finally looked up the Monarch's Way and realised it was all to do with Charles II escaping after the defeat at Worcester in 1651 and later crossing over to France. I will have to re-read his escape story. I hope you enjoyed all that walking.

Hi Cathy! Thank you for a lovely comment. Yes, the Monarchs Way starts at The Commandery in Worcester; I have seen the exact site when making another video, but I have not (yet) covered it in one my videos. It is also very close to the Worcester & Birmingham Canal. Too far for me to do a walking series on though, as it goes way out of my area into Sussex! That King certainly did some walking! Hope the new King Charles does not have to do the same! Yes, lots of big houses all over the Cotswolds in Gloucestershire & Worcestershire - as you say, retired colonels, judges, and dare I say bankers too - maybe the odd lottery winner and celebrity (plenty of those where I live, but I am not into covering stuff like that, because people need privacy, regardless of who they are) too. Thank you Cathy, take care, Paul.

Beautiful area, Paul! Wow, the acorns dropping really did sound like fire. And that yew tree in the churchyard was huge. I love seeing old trees like that. It's a similar story here in Canada, too, with small farms giving way to the bigger companies. Those blackberries looked amazing! It was great seeing some of the market, too, and I caught a glimpse of Woolworth's - I remember shopping at their stores back when they were still operating here in Canada.

Hi Donna! Yes, Woolworths carrier bags! I couldn't believe it when I saw that. Incredible, he must have got them in a job lot sale - some boxes must have been kicking around in the remoter corners of a warehouse somewhere. Thank you for your kind commets. Sorry to hear you have the same issues with farming and global agri business in Canada too - the way of the modern world I guess. Yes, I may have had a few too many blackberries on the walk, but they were delicious! Thanks for watching and commenting, take care, Paul.

Hello Paul - greetings from Poland
A lovely musical introduction - it reminded of McGuinness Flint!
Loved the stocks and the walk through Stow with the famous yew trees around the church door.. Beautiful sound of running water at The Wells. Monarch's Way again. This route seems to appear in most of your videos! What a delightful walk through the villages of Broadwell and Evenload. Very picturesque. So sad to see the demise of that farm. The amalgamation of many farms into giant conglomerates is called progress isn''t it?? (being sarcastic)
Moreton is a lovely town with its market. Did you notice the "Woolworths - prices worth celbrating" plastic bags at 36.21. Thought it might bring back some memories for you. Well done with managing the busy market and town.
A fabulos video. Stupendous camera work with a brilliant commentary. Stay safe old friend.

Thank you Michael - that's a lovely comment. Yes, I had done no planning for this one, but I enjoyed what I found and discovered. Yes, the market had quietened down by the time I had got back to Moreton (it was very busy in the morning when I got off the train) so I decided to film it, because I thought that it would be a bit different (for my channel). Very sad, that farm. I was very impressed with Broadwell, in particular. Had a wonderful charm, and very unspoilt. Thank you for supporting my channel and watching my videos - it is very much appreciated. Take care, Paul 👍🙂

Thank you so much for this informative walk. I'll be staying in Bourton for a month in September and am hoping to walk between many villages. I do worry about getting lost, some paths I have seen in videos do not seem well marked or tread. You have started me on my first outing, and I will subscribe and view other walks you have done.

Thankfully, the footpaths in the Cotswolds are generally very good. There are a dedicated team of Cotswold Footpath wardens who maintain them and replace gates and signs. Unfortunately that is not the case elsewhere! In the UK, I use the Ordnance Survey (OS) Maps - they do one that covers the entire Cotswolds (well, most of it). You can also download their excellent app, and for a small monthly fee (or just one small fee if you'll only be using it for a short time) you can have the map on your phone - uses your GPS, so you'll never get lost! You can download the map, so even in poor signal areas, you can still use it. I hope you have an amazing time in the Cotswolds - I have done videos about the entire Cotswold Way and many videos about other walks in and around the Cotswolds too. It is perfect walking country. Thanks for watching 🙂👍Paul.

Thank you Lionel and Mary. I do enjoy walking and exploring, and being out in nature. I find it (and photography, and its creative process) helps enormously with reducing problems related to my poor mental health, and battles with anxiety and depression. I try to cover all of the the wider Westcountry (and beyond on my Severn Way series!) because I find viewers are often interested in places either local to them, or places that are near to where they have been on holiday. I like to mix it up with content about canals (which are always enormously popular on my channel), railways, walking, nature, and history. Thanks for watching and supporting my channel - it is greatly appreciated! Take care, Paul.

My husband and I will be visiting Morton in Marsh October this year making it our home base, can you tell me what bus goes to Stow on the Wold? Also are there buses that can take us to other towns to visit? Thank you kindly and love your videos.

      Thank you Barbara.
There are definitely busses from Moreton-in-Marsh railway station's car park to Stow-on-the-Wold.
I use this app and website for bus times across the South West - it is very good:
      www.travelinesw.com/
You can also use the Cotswold Railway Line to travel to places like Charlbury (ruclips.net/video/DVoKIR4d-30/видео.html) and Pershore (ruclips.net/video/QKajwtKqPpo/видео.html) (both highly recommended places to visit) from Moreton-in-Marsh Railway Station.
Also, if you catch a train to Evesham, you can then catch the bus to Broadway (an essential visit if you have not been) from Evesham High St. Evesham itself is worth an explore.
Close to Moreton and within walking distance (or short taxi ride) is the Arboretum at Batsford and the stunning gardens and buildings of Sezincote.
Within four miles from Moreton is the National Trust's Chastleton House & Gardens. I did a video about that, but you may need to get a taxi there:
      ruclips.net/video/1ZAvYsSAIWA/видео.html
Moreton-in-Marsh makes an excellent base! Good choice.
Hope you both have a super holiday.
      Take care,
      Paul
