That song has received many adjustments or alignments including its most common English version that was translated in 1862 by James Chadwick, the Roman Catholic bishop of Hexham and Newcastle, north east England." Sadly, many priests of today aren't taught Latin. Sheesh, my mom went to a Catholic school all 12 years, and she was taught Latin for four years straight in high school. If I could learn as a CHILD, the priests should at least aspire to learn Latin for masses only!! Lame that they simply lack the passion to do this. The language is dying :(
16 years old, I made a lot of incredibly stupid mistakes and sinned. I slacked off in school and had many unhealthy obsessions. I was a sinner through and through. 2024 has been the greatest year for me, purely because all the consequences came and I finally got a wake up call. As I listened, I closed my eyes and imagined I had ventured into a large, Gothic cathedral somewhere, having come out of the crisp cold snow falling among the darkened pine forest I had trudged through then greeted by the warmth of soft candle light and thin wisps of incense of myrrh and frankensense.
The place was empty but for the ghostly angelic choir singing praises as glints of moonbeams through the stained glass windows high above bathed the empty wooden pews in rich shades of green, blue, red and amber.
I opened my eyes and behold ... the old smoky run down biker bar where I was listening through my earphones greeted me as did another stiff drink and a pool table.
Beautiful. Thank you. This has made the song even better to listen to.

So was my Grandmother. I was so blessed to have her in my life.
When I was 6 years old. I had a serious disease. I got my treatment at the Italian hospital in Damascus.
They called me the miracle boy because my situation was hopeless but God saved me .
There was a small church attached to the hospital and the nurses were lovely Italian nuns who showered me with love and tenderness. I still remember their shiny merciful faces.
From time to time, they used to take me to the church. I watched Jesus paints and other beautiful sculptures.
I was amazed at series of paints that portrait how Jesus tortured & crucified. That was a crucial part coz we don’t believe in that part as Muslims.
Currently Im 34 years old. Most probably these nuns are resting in peace. I pray for their souls and for the soul of Doctor Mohamad Barmada who already passed away due to Cancer. Asking God to light their way (forever grateful). ❤️

Angels We Have Heard on High
"Gloria in excelsis Deo" (Glory to God in the Highest) is the Latin version of the song which tells of what the angels sang on the night of the Nativity, and a hymn using these words was used in the Christian church as early as the 2nd century. Telesphorus, who became Bishop of Rome in 129, stated that on the holy night of the Nativity the people should solemnly sing the Angles' Hymn at the publish church services. It is assumed by many that this hymn was undoubtedly one of the first purely christian hymns of the early church.
The choral refrain in the carol Angels We Have Heard on High seems to have been taken from a Latin chorale of the late medieval period, while the first section is of French secular origin.
In England the carol is called 'Westminster Carol" from the fact that it is often sung in the Westminster Chapel during the Christmas season.
Angels We Have heard on High makes a lovely chorale for a cappella choir.

Same here! I love listening to this song, its my very favorite. I have also taken to 'learning' long-verse songs like this one, its soothing to sing (and I'd forgotten I'm pretty good at it :) & to work on keeping the lyrics in memory. I just wish this lovely version had used all 4 verses to the song. Very few 'versions' of the song seem to do so!

Every Christmas eve I would go to church with my family. My mom was religious, my dad was not. We would all go and it is one of my favorite memories. This song reminds me of my grandpa in particular. Whenever we would stand and sing a song, I would always look at my grandpa, and he would look back at me and smile or wink. He was a great man, always there for me, and cared so dearly. Sadly he passed away 5 years ago. This song puts me right back in church with him as a kid. I miss you Bill
