Damn right, and that’s what I’ve tried to show with my playlist of requests! 👍 😊 From Help, to Black Dog, Angels, Granda, to soul… I just love it. Final song in my list coming soon. 👍
You know you're good when! 1. You can sing live and not hit a bum note 2. You sound even better live than with all the bells and whistles of the studio. 3. You throw in some even higher notes when you ad lib it in a live performance 4. You sing acapella just in case anyone thinks your lip syncing. 5. The crowd knows every line of your song and sings along with you. These three have it all and we love that the internet exists and that finally people all around the world are discovering our Aussie legends and appreciate the vocal mastery even all these many years later. Thanks for jumping on the Farnsey and Barnsey (not forgetting hearthrob Deisel) bandwagon. 🇦🇺 🎶
All three of these extraordinary musicians are basically in chart competition with each other... as an Aussie I am always so proud of how our artists have very little ego with each other.... maybe it's because we're so remote and so we're basically all we have ?...especially back then when travel outside of our country was longer and very much more expensive.... You'll find that most of them worked on each others albums... showed up for cameos at each others concerts... and are genuinely friends.. and yes, I know it happens in other countries...but it makes me so very proud.
True that. I learned only a couple of days ago that John - and Jimmy, and Diesel, and Glen Shorrock - did BACKING VOCALS for Billy Birmingham’s ‘Marvellous’ of The 12th Man fame. I’ve loved it as a comedy song for about 25 years but knowing this… I’ll never listen to it the same again!
@@sarzl1980 So are a lot of Australians... they were all very young when they came here though... and never left... so I figure if you've spent 60+ years in this country , been Australian of the Year (John) then you're an Australian.... same for Jimmy... Mark is younger, but his base has always been here. Even when they were away touring, all three have always said they're Australian... Also, as you know, we'll claim anyone... even Russell Crowe - but we've been trying to give him back to NZ for years...
Weirdly we in Australia...especially in my age bracket (40) took singers and song like this for granted...it was just like...eh, it's just John Farnham again...we knew it was an "alright" song but it was what our mothers listened to. Lol. Now though I love it, and can appreciate the quality of their voices.
Bingo. Pressure Down was the very first song for which I learnt all the words, when I was in about grade three. I used to be a little embarrassed about that, but now it's something I'm actually proud of. We would listen to Whispering Jack on the car trip from home to my grandparents' farm about 4 hours away. Fond memories. 🥲 And now in my late 30s I can appreciate that album for the masterpiece that it is. I put it on from time to time and there's not a single dud track on it.
@@grievesy83 Lol, me and my mum used to travel all around Australia...among other cassettes she had in the car like Daryl Braithwaite, Rod Stewart greatest hits and some great mix tapes was a copy of Whispering Jack...I probably know the words to most of the songs too...it was repeated enough times between radio stations.
Yep. John was such an institution in Australia we barely noticed when he had a new record out. He even complained that radio wouldn't play his new stuff because he 'wasn't cool enough'. But a few years removed I think many people are really waking up to just how extraordinary John Farnham is. Especially in light of the overseas community discovering his immense talent via RUclips channels like this one.
Jimmy & John are both legends that we Aussies proud to call them our adoptive sons. Now of course they have their own versions of "When The War Is Over". But one time, they did a duet and it was mind blowing.
I had a good laugh this morning - evidently John rang Jimmy to wish him well and joked that they should both dress in hospital gowns and re do the film clip! John has great sense of humour.
Kap, Us Aussies have kept the best of Aus music to ourselves lol. Seriously how the rest of the world didn’t get more of our talent still fascinates me. I know John preferred to be in Aus with his family. Also, as you’ve probably read, when John did those sound tracks for a few movies, which they absolutely loved, some have realised via RUclips it was an Australian. Strange as we grew up with so much USA and UK music - As for Jimmy they are also blown away - they only knew the tip of our music industry here. I post John and Jimmy and others in Facebook group, mainly with UK and USA in the group and lucky to get one or 2 likes, sometimes none. Many don’t know them, so not interested.
Can’t help but notice how yet again, John, as a completely unselfish & confident performer, always presents the mic closer to the other performer rather than to himself. He knows he can blow them out of the water & chooses not to. ❤❤❤
John Farnham is probably a very nice person but, the position of the mic has nothing to do with being unselfish. The engineer, producer and the singers would have worked that out. John holds the mic further away from mouth than Jimmy and Diesel cannot project his voice like the other two.
John’s an all time great and one of the smoothest voices ever but blow jimmy away? Serious have you ever heard of jimmy barnes? His voice would sandpaper John away
This trio of John, Jimmy and Diesel and band played at the ARIA (Australian Record Industry Association) awards some years ago in front of the audience which was the cream of Australian music. I particularly love the a cappela at the end. Diesel and his band are excellent musicians, too, with some great songs that you may like to check out.
It is such a pleasure to see your enjoyment and amazement of two singers we Aussies grew up with from teenagers when they started out, to the mature magic singers they are now.
I love the fact that Americans only know Jimmy as "screaming sky cowboy" from some shitty dance song a few years ago without knowing he's a bonafide Australian musical legend

OMG where do we start with this trio from the land down under. Of course all three have extrordinary skills musically. We know you appreciate John or Farnsey as he is affectionately known. But to date I have not seen the love yet for our rock God with soul, Mr Jimmy Barnes otherwise known as Barnesy. He has been singing since he was a teenager. He was part of the Cold Chisel band for many years and went solo (with a few reunions here and there from Chisel). His brother in law, Mark Lizotte, also known as Diesel was originally part of a band Johnny Dieael and the injectors. He then also went solo. I've seen them live and they do sing just like this live. I agree, Jimmy and John in a duet is magic; neither have to pull back and they can play/bounce off each other so well.
