Stunned is a good word for this. I saw this in Melbourne, same show, different performance. It was a who’s who of Australian talent. Everything about it was stunning. John just floated over the top of everything else.
Thanks for reacting to my playlist! That was a lot of fun and I hope you guys had fun too! Credit to Andrew Lloyd Webber for the utterly amazing song that is Gethsemane, and for Ian Gillan for working the original vocal. The grit and distortion in Johns voice is sublime, but what amazes me is his ability to be in complete control of it. His artistry is knowing when to apply it and when to NOT apply it. He just turns it on at will and still never, ever misses a note. He's such a natural talent that he has the room to act as well, as in he's not just concentrating on the music. Damn I love this performance - it just never gets old. I'm an atheist and I can't help but be moved by it.
@@SuzyTrippa I had some help from Them G and others that requested a few before I jumped on the bandwagon - I just wanted to round out the selection! 😄

To be able to go from full anger voice to full sad voice without the slightest deviation is phenomenal. It still amazes me how he can convey the emotions so perfectly, and watching Suzi's expressions sums it up perfectly. Thanks Jez G for the requests, and thanks Travis and Suzi for enjoying it as much as we have.
Will never forget all the times I saw John Farnham perform. World class. One of the greatest voices the world has ever seen. He is also one of the nicest people to ever walk the earth. I hope he is doing okay now after his cancer diagnosis and surgery. Love him ❤️
Soooo many people claim John Legend's version as the best - there is a video on YT that compares the two [as our Molly Meldrum would say] do yourself a favour and watch it. John Farnham blows him out of the water with the grief and passion in his voice, and of course his range and the length he can hold a note with feeling. I don't know a soul who can watch this performance without goosebumps.
Yep, good call. John Legend is a very good singer, no doubt. But I wonder if people who claim he is the best Jesus simply haven't heard the Australian production with John. It makes sense given so few Americans have heard Farnham ever.
This was such an amazing performance and show! John, just wow! 16 year old me was lucky enough to see this in Brisbane! Onya guys! ❤ ps the whole production is on RUclips in 2 parts!
I wished I'd seen this performance. He's amazing. RESPECT. I just love John's voice. I did see a modern interpretation of the play in Sydney with Tim Minchin as Judas and that was pretty good too. Get well John🙏. Great reaction, love the look on your faces, & yes his performances give me chills also.
@@grievesy83 others might say Help or When the war is over...but IMO this is a theatrical vocal master-class and my favourite of all the many many performances I have seen both live or on video over the years.
I was very fortunate to have attended Jesus Christ Superstar in Melbourne - it was performed entirely in the "round", a rotating stage with 50,000 plus people. The cast included rock legends, and A grades. Some you have reacted to - John Farnham - Jon Stevens (Noiseworks), Kate Ceberano, John Waters, Angry Anderson (Rose Tattoo), Russell Morris. It broke records, with the cast recording an album which debut at #1 Australia, and remained there for 10 weeks. It was the "must see show" of 1992. Over 84 nights, 1 million people flocked to the show, grossing $40mill AUS in just 16 weeks.
Before that album was released my fave was the movie with Ted Neely. Now I have 2 JCS albums that sit equally. I missed seeing it in the round but I heard it was an incredible experience.
That was John with a full cast of talent. I couldn’t get to see this one but I have watched this song a lot. He has always been just magic and he is still that man. Thank you.
OMG😃 you finally got to this one! THANK YOU! Thank you @Jez G for suggesting this one! The other guy was good but John Farnham takes the crown over all JCS leads, IMO. His pain/anguish in this song is the most believable of all the versions I've watched. The staging for this production was incredible also and there is a 2 part video of the whole show on YT...
I was lucky enough to win a competition to go to this show in another state and meet John which was one of the best wins of my life, being a huge Farnham fan. He was so gracious, funny and so humble. What a huge talent he was. I'm so glad I saw every show I could, now that we know he'll never sing again. Thanks for bringing back my memory xx
It's never been offically announced that our beloved Farnsy will never sing again. He is by all accounts, recovering well at home, and doing some singing and dancing. You'll never keep John down, he will always find a way, he has such grit and determination. After all the obstacles he's had to get through in life and his career, do you really think this is going to stop this man, whose music is an extension of himself? Not a chance! Never say never.
I saw this production twice, including the last hight. I also saw two other productions and the film version. I've been to see multiple John F concerts, bought the CDs and raved about the performances but this was my favourite to show off his range and mastery. Thank you.

Absolutely fantastic reaction guys! Suzi, I could watch you watching John on repeat all day! I was fortunate to see this production a couple of times in Sydney at the Entertainment Centre. Absolutely brilliant production that contained some of Aussie rock royalty. One of the best interpretations and productions of JCS I've ever seen! I can tell you John was on point every show.
This performance of JC Superstar was a concert version done "in the round". The stage was in the centre of the huge stadium and the stage revolved. I love "Everything's Alright" from the show, with John, Kate Ceberano and Jon Stevens, really great. I was at the concert and John and the cast were fantastic.
That's approximately the one hundred and third time I've heard that and I'll line up to hear it another one hundred and three times lol. John always gave 100% with all his performances but somehow he found an extra few percent for that one. That's right at the very top of my list of his songs, nothing measures up against that!

Suzie and Travis and Jeremy G I can't thank you enough for this amazing 'reaction' guys. This is such a superb performance from John. I've heard a lot of gesthemane performances in jesus christ superstar & none of them come even close to john farnhams beautiful performance. And I'm going back to Trevor White in the 70's. John is an amazing singer & such a humble & beautiful soul. We wish him a speedy recovery from his mouth cancer & we all hope one day we will hear his beautiful voice again ❤️
Burn for you , give it a listen , this was a song dedicated to his wife while he was on tour. John does this ballad with so.much passion and there's not a woman alive that wouldn't want him to sing this song to them.
I wasn't at this particular performance, but the entire show was amazing live. Indeed the entire cast was outstanding, not to mention the costumes and production.
