What an awesome reaction. But you aint heard nothing yet. These 2 are even better live.
They are way beyond just 2 Aussie singers. They are Legendary Aussie Music Icons. There is no one in Australia who doesn't know of these two, as both have been around for decades. John since the 60's and Jimmy since the 70's. John in particular has fans spanning 4 generations. He has had hit albums or singles in every decade since he started in 1967..yep that's right 7 Decades, 6 decades number 1's and the most recent album released earlier this year, made it to number 2. (No mean feat for a 74 year old.) He is still as popular today as he ever was.
Jimmy isn't far behind and is still pumping out his records and singles even now at 67.
Both still have incredibly strong voices and John's voice in particular is still spectacular...or at least it was until he had cancer 12 months ago and had to have part of his jaw reconstructed. His family has said that he can still sing but who knows if we will ever get to see him again. John also still holds the record for the highest ever selling album in Australia by an Aussie and was pipped at the post by Meatloaf when worldwide artist are included. He even outsold more concerts than the likes of Michael Jackson, Billy Joel and Meatloaf when the toured in Aus.
    Recommendations
JOHN You’re the Voice is his signature song...or try his cover of the Beatles song, Help. It's his own arrangement and you won't recognise it as the Beatles tune as he completely changed it up.
Always listen and react to John Live...especially anything with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. His interaction with the audience is legendary.
JIMMY check out a more recent recording Stone Cold feat Joe Bonamassa on 🎸
Thanks again for a great reaction to our Aussie favs 💕 😊

When you mentioned Olivia Newton John, when reading up on John Farnham; the first song that comes to mind is their duet of John's "Please Don't Ask Me ", from The Main Event Concert. John Farnham - “Help” (Beatles cover) & “You’re the Voice” - both live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Iconic gig.
Cold Chisel - “When the War is Over” & “Bow River” live from the 2003 Ringside concert video.
Cold Chisel is second only to AC/DC as the greatest Australian rock band. Many Australians would argue they’re number 1.

  • @theghost6412
    @theghost6412 Год назад +12

These two will continue to astound you at the sheer power and range of their voices.
Jimmy is a master of Blues, Rock and Soul while John is more all rounder and done and tried and mastered everything that there is to try. The guy, Diesel, on the guitar is an astounding Blues and Soul singer and guitarist himself.
Jimmy and his daughter Mahalia and his eldest son David are all highly talented, well grounded, somewhat mischievous and extremely kind people.
Jimmy not only sings with extreme power, he can also croon and sing those gentle notes. Perfect example of it is him singing *Fire and Rain* with another aussie legend named Marcia Hines. Him singing *You'll Never Walk Alone* with his son David at the local chistmas carols here is also a beautiful show of his soft powerful voice.
John who is a cheeky larriken has been friends with Olivia Newton-John since they were both young and in the music scene together. His song *Please Don't Ask Me* that he paired up with her in their The Main Event concert in their later years is magic and shows his low and high notes and puts both their singing prowess on full display. Him singing in the same concert with another legendary aussie opera singer Anthony Warlow singing *Granada*.

Jimmy's voice is great, but John's mastery of his is genius. There are no limits to his ability. He also loves singing and performing and in live performances he uses the energy of the love we have for him to reach beyond anything he's done vocally before. It's possible the 'grit' in his voice is because he was a smoker for years. When you listen to his earliest work, such as Bridge Over Troubled Water the tone is not as pronounced.

As everyone has commented, go live for both of them and Help and/or You're the Voice with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for John. So happy you have discovered both Jimmy & John and also Diesel ( Mark Lizotte ) on guitar.
The grit in both voices is a put on....... both have pristine clarity when they want it, although Jimmy does prefer to sound like a granite cruncher.
There are 4 or more live versions available also...... at least 3 as good or better than this official video.
The better live versions have Diesel ( Mark ) joining them for a big Acapella finnish ( Diesel is Australia’s most successful Blues singer & guitarist, but for the Acapella finnish he does the super high head voices ).
Always do these 3 live...... they are that good individually.
For John I suggest Gethsemane from Australia’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar.
Also the live Everything’s Alright with the full Superstar cast on an Aussie TV show called Hey Hey, It’s Saturday.
( wait for the end- an impromptu Amazing Grace)
This video is billed as by Kate Ceberano, Jon Stevens and John Farnham ( or Kate, Jon and John ).
Then do Help , It’s A Long Way To The Top ( AC / DC cover ) and Black Dog ( Led Zepplin cover ) all by John with the MSO ( Melbourne Symphony Orchestra )
Any live video with Jimmy and Diesel together..... especially the duet of Simply the Best with Tina Turner and Diesel on guitar.
Also Jimmy with Joe Bonamassa on guitar.... Stone Cold ( recorded live in Joe’s private studio with his own house band ).
Also Lazy..... same studio I think.
Then Joe Bonamassa with Mahalia Barnes ( Jimmy’s daughter ) doing Riding With The Kings.
Mahalia is one of Joe’s long time backing singers.

12:48 couldn’t agree more that they both have power in their voices. They are true artists, some of the best of our great land. Jimmy is my favourite artist ever, and yes his previous band Cold Chisel performed this live too in 1982 in Germany, way before the collaboration you see here. Now that was a great concert. I’ve been watching that concert a lot on a channel by Casey Cooper. Dr_Kap has also put up When Something is wrong with my Baby ( singular song ) by Chisel on her channel. It features Ian Moss on guitar and vocals at the beginning and then Jimmy comes in with the higher register. This version is closer to the Sam And Dave original, than the Jimmy and John one, although both smash it out of the park.

Loved your awesomeness. Elbow bump and a wink from an old Aussie who also appreciates the socks off these two.

I recommend "You're the Voice" and "Help" from the live concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra as well. He was on fire that night.

I love it when the younger generation discover these guys. Especially John. I was a teen when these guys were at their peak, and we just took it for granted. Aussie rock is a thing of beauty. We have some of the best singers in the world, and we love them.

Jimmy is great at singing duets. He's always generous when singing with other singers. I suggest you check out Tina Turner and him singing Simply the Best. It is, simply the best. Oh, and the third bloke is also a great singer in his own right, Johnny Diesel.

Please more John Farnham and live. When the War is Over, Help, Touch of paradise and you’re the Voice to name a few but it’s seriously all incredible.

Agree John singing Help with MSO is a must watch. Also, I think you'd enjoy John's stage performance of Gethsemene from Jesus Christ Superstar.

Jimmy and John had considerable talent to start with. Being Aussie singers, they didn't get wealthy early, so they could take their foot off the gas. They grinded for decades performing to live crowds. It takes that kind of dedication to create singers as superb as them.

I am sure you have done John Farnham before. John and Olivia Newton John is a must.
John and Anthony Warlow doing opera with humour is great.

You need to check out as a live performance, it will blow your mind; watch the 1991 ARIA Awards or Hey Hey It's Saturday performances, the guitarist is Johnny Diesel(brother-in-law of Jimmy Barnes)is another great Australian artist.

Let the rabbit hole of incredible artists begin. We have a lot of incredible talent. Check out Teskey Brothers, Cold Chisel as Chisel has two lead singers with Jimmy being one and Ian Moss being the other and he has a sick voice too.

You should listen to Jimmy Barnes’s solo album, Soul Deep! It’s brilliant!! Covers of old Motown classics, like “Many Rivers to Cross, River Deep Mountain High & Reflections to name a few.

ah, these two...John Farnham's Whispering Jack was the first non-classical album my mother let me buy in 1986. She was in The Australian Opera chorus in the 1980s and had the opinion that if it wasn't opera, it wasn't proper singing. She did, however, tolerate Johnny Farnham. She drew the line at Skid Row, though.

Jimmy became famous with Cold Chisel for a song 'Working Class Man' he also did a duet with Tina Turner of 'Simply the Best'. John has had a long career starting with a song 'Sadie the Cleaning Lady' which he prefers not to sing anymore but I'm sure when the crowd call for it he does it. The third person in the video (guitar player) is Johnny Diesel who is a great singer in his own right. A good one to see of John Farnham and his range is 'Gethsemane' from Jesus Christ Superstar (1992 Australian Cast), plus a softer one for John is 'Burn for You'

I am so glad you love our Australian Singers, And FYI The Guitarist is Jimmys Brother in law, Johnny Diesel, another great Aussie, married to Jimmys Wife Sister. I just saw your reaction to Help from John Farnham and your reaction was fantastic to these fantastic Aussies singers, even if they were born in other countries, they still class themselves as Aussies.
