AFAIK, carbon fibre rigidity/strength really comes down to how the fibers are laid up and understanding the forces the part will experience is critical. In race cars you’ll see a part with cf be made to be strong enough to resist it’s projected forces and nothing else, place forces on it in a different way and it can be almost fragile. I’ve always loved this sneaker, but I’m kind of shocked that the cf plate would be that fragile in that direction, I would have expected it to be stronger.
CF is stiff and brittle. Your foot can't bend nearly as much as he was bending that shoe in half in the middle, so I doubt it's as much of a concern as it was made out to be. Feet don't flex at the arch.
@@F0XD1E commenting to say the same. The first way he tried to fold it(toe upwards) is the normal way and it held up fine. But folding toe downward to heel is not natural so imo that's why the CF arch broke so easily.

For your hot dog onion stain on synthetic cloth (like the cordura is I believe) I’ve had success with plain dish soap removing oil based stains. Eg: wet area, apply dish soap, soak for a few min, wash off. Repeat if needed.
After watching your sneaker/Yeezy series, would you consider cutting up a GS or women’s version of the same shoe. Curious to know if they’re built the same or if manufacturers cut corners. Even with boots, I wonder if my Red Wing moc toes are made differently than the men’s version.
Nike definitely cuts corners with some GS shoes … that’s why they’re cheaper … some GS shoes will only have air in the heel and not the forefoot like it’s adult example. That’s why a mens and woman’s release 11 are full priced. But if you do like some women do and just buy the shoe in a GS to save money you’re not getting all the technology
GS shoes don't come with the tech that adult sizes do. A strange example is that the Jordan XII came in a men's and kids sz 7. It's the same shoe in terms of size, but the men's size 7 had zoom air, while the GS didn't.
@@bigsho5218 I don't know about the US but in the UK the GS and PS models would be cheaper even if they had the same tech because children's clothing isn't subject to VAT(sales tax).

So far jordan 11 is pretty consistent with the original. The only flipslide is that the 1995-96 pairs actually encapsulate the air unit with phylon, so it's not wide open like how retroes does it.
@@pielucas439 mmmm, that i cannot say for sure. Because that would mean i have to do the same test that rose anvil did. Now if it's thicker than today's CF shank, i would say yes.
@@pielucas439 but i will say the padding is much stiffer, the leather is thicker, the patent is more vinyl than plastic, and the insole is much more thicker, has a nice curve shape rather than being flat, and the encapsulated phylon feels better than if it was wide open.
I seem to recall it being said that the 11 used the patent leather to give the shoe a slight "wingtip" look so MJ could wear them with a suit. Great video as always!

Awesome video! Thank you for the quality production! As for the carbon fibre plate, you bent it to failure at the center of the foot arch in the opposite direction to its intended flex design but feet don't bend there and definitely not in that direction or to that extent. When in practical use, the shoe bends at the forefoot where that plate splits, thins out, and falls short of the tips of the toes allowing for that natural flex. I believe the center arch is meant to stay relatively in-form and functions more like the center column of a long bow to provide that spring back support at the ends of the shoe. If you bend a long bow at the center in the opposite direction, it would also snap since it wasn't designed to bend there or in that way. The 11s are my all time fav Jordans and I hope to own a pair one day! :)
the passion of the author is like he is a kid. beyond the sky level. my sincere thumbs up!! just imagine what ytb allows us to make, see and know these days!!
Yeah I’ve had a pair of 11s that eventually made it ‘grass cutter’ status.. if you beat them up enough the carbon fiber will crack and the translucent outsole’ll separate too
I would love a Jordan 12 video up next, mainly the Indigo cw that released 2 years ago, they claimed it was a naturally tinted leather and that they put better leathers than ever. I would love your evaluation of the shoe in general, seeing what you think of the Jordan 11 and also the materials on this particular cw I mentioned previously.
Glad that you pointed out that the carbon fiber is a gimmick. Carbon fiber is extremely strong in tension, but not in bending or against orthogonal loads. That application can’t do very much.
Thin sole usually require better quality. As an athlete of various type of sports, i do notice sports shoes these days comes with thicker midsole end up for comfort but gaving up road feedback hence lesser stability control by wearer. Is great to see AJ still holding up the golden classic.
Niiice! This is what I had recommended a few weeks back when you asked us to comment on what other Js you should do. Thanks for this video. The 11 is one of my all-time favs! Keep doing what you're doing Weston!
Brave man chopping up those Jordans and analyzing them. Not because of the sneaker value, but because Jordan is very protective of his brand and his lawyers like to litigate lol. Edit: Thanks for the Patent Leather history lesson.
An arch is strong if you push down from the apex, but not as structurally sound the opposite way, it looked like you cracked it bending it in reverse with a point load which I do not believe was the design intent.
A curved piece of carbon fiber is not an arch. It does not benefit from the strength of a structural/architectural arch, because the two ends are not transferring force into the ground, and the compressive loads are different. It's just a curved piece of CF, and will be pretty much just as strong in both directions.
i would think the direction of the layup makes a slight difference, assuming they are laying only a coule sheets to make the piece. it would be just a molded piece of flat layered cf. but the forces he broke it with would probably not happen on the middle of the arch with the shoe in tact, glued to both the outsole and midsole. a sharp 3 point bend in the arch never really occurs.
Never in my life has a carbon fiber shank plate snapped on me, even with abusive WEAR. But of course it'll snap if you fold the shoe with no foot in it
For me that got into Jordans after the hype, this was always the coolest one cuz of the design in general, I didn't even know histories and all of that when I chose it as my fave.
I know basketball sneakers arent your forte since there are less basketball sneakers that use leather but we really need contents like this which shows the actual quality of the materials
The Air Jordan XI are one of the most iconic and technologic shoes ever. The carbon plate in the mid-sole, the translucent clear rubber, the mesh, the patent leather, were innovative design technologic details never seen before in a basketball shoe. To think that this shoe was conceived and designed way back in 1994 gives even more innovative value to the designer: mister Thinker Hatfield.

For your hot dog onion stain on synthetic cloth (like the cordura is I believe) I’ve had success with plain dish soap removing oil based stains. Eg: wet area, apply dish soap, soak for a few min, wash off. Repeat if needed.
If that CF snapped, so did the bones in your foot. The shoe doesn’t bend where that plate is. It is for torsional rigidity.
😂
Would love to see a whole series redoing women's versions to see this.
@@bigsho5218 GS 11s have a faux carbon shank.
I love Jordan’s ! To hear you gush from a boot maker’s standpoint is great!
Another great informative video. The carbon fibers on my sample DMP 11s that released back in 2006 are still in tact. Mainly because I don’t play basketball in them.
i’m addictive to this channel now 😂. And i love the 11’s as well. Wasn’t the biggest fan of them at first when they first released but they’ve grown on me for sure
I had my OG 11s for about 15 years, the carbon fibre never broke and gave me an extra few inches on my jump from the ‘spring’ effect
Prove it!
this is bullshit, ive owned early 2000 pairs like the bred and cg bought in store, after wearing them the carbon fiber plate always cracks, anyone who says different is full of sh--
@@airtec87 why would I make up a lie about that to random strangers on the internet? wtf? lol
Plus I said they we're the OG 11's, not the nasty ass & cheaply made retros
@@airtec87 I still have the 01 Columbia’s. Haven’t worn em since like 05 but I hooped in em and generally dogged em. Never cracked.
@@antlew8077 my zen 11 lows, bred 11 from 2001, and dmp 11s all cracked after wearing them casually. I have a pair of cool greys, the first retro not the 2010 or the one from last year, that didn't crack but I wore those the least.
AJ11 originals were and are the best playable shoes ever made hands down! Great video man 👊🏽 I can't believe you cut them in half 🤣
These sneakers are superbly insane, literally the best pair of sneakers I've owned. I only use them on special occasions, and keep em clean and fresh, even though the durability is outstanding.
I love when this video is reposted on twitter/instagram and seeing all the comments crying and whining as if you killed their god. They're just shoes people.
I'm a fan of the 11 because it's a little friendlier to people with wider feet.
One of my favorite sneakers of all time. Great design and function. Great video.
So far jordan 11 is pretty consistent with the original. The only flipslide is that the 1995-96 pairs actually encapsulate the air unit with phylon, so it's not wide open like how retroes does it.
I was told the carbon fiber in the originals was a lot higher quality as well. Any truth to that?
@@pielucas439 mmmm, that i cannot say for sure. Because that would mean i have to do the same test that rose anvil did. Now if it's thicker than today's CF shank, i would say yes.
@@pielucas439 but i will say the padding is much stiffer, the leather is thicker, the patent is more vinyl than plastic, and the insole is much more thicker, has a nice curve shape rather than being flat, and the encapsulated phylon feels better than if it was wide open.
@@thomascalderon598 thanks for replying, appreciate it man. Was looking at a pair (rerelease) but think I'll skip it
@@thomascalderon598 If Nike is the best at anything, it's finding all the little corners to cut to maximize those margins lol
I seem to recall it being said that the 11 used the patent leather to give the shoe a slight "wingtip" look so MJ could wear them with a suit. Great video as always!
That cat is the real star of this video
Love all these videos! Every single one! I cut apart a pair of airmax when i was in middle and it brings me back to then every time you drop a new video… also love how the cats jus chillin… keep the sneakers coming theres plenty more we need to see whats inside! Salute from a true sneaker head
Well go buy a pair
@@stalefacegoldteeth people can’t afford the stupid resell prices.
Your comment has the same tone of “if you’re homeless just buy a home”
the passion of the author is like he is a kid. beyond the sky level.
my sincere thumbs up!!
just imagine what ytb allows us to make, see and know these days!!
Yeah I’ve had a pair of 11s that eventually made it ‘grass cutter’ status.. if you beat them up enough the carbon fiber will crack and the translucent outsole’ll separate too
I love your videos bc I can hear and see the passion and quality of work you do. That’s inspiring on another level. Keep up the great work
The cat sleeping on the box is too cute
I have a love hate relationship with the 11s, i love them when its icy sole is clean and brandnew and i hate them when they are turning yellow.
I'd like to see an og pair of carbon fiber side by side to see the difference since they don't make em the same anymore
There’s nothing wrong with the carbon fiber plate in these?
@@troydennis96 didn't say there was, just not the same
Thin sole usually require better quality.
Please do the jordan models in the right order. The jordan 4 should‘ve been the next one 🙏🏽
Brave man chopping up those Jordans and analyzing them. Not because of the sneaker value, but because Jordan is very protective of his brand and his lawyers like to litigate lol. Edit: Thanks for the Patent Leather history lesson.
Bred 11s and the Gamma 11s are so amazing!
Feet don't bend like that at the arch, especially not backwards.
I seriously doubt anyone has ever cracked the carbon fiber plate with normal usage.
By far, the Nike Air Jordan 11s are the best Jordan model ever, and one of the Top 3 Sneakers Of All Time Yet!!! 💯✅️
Never in my life has a carbon fiber shank plate snapped on me, even with abusive WEAR. But of course it'll snap if you fold the shoe with no foot in it
im loving these jordan videos, best channel out there in my opinion
What about an air max month?
Jordan 11’s we’re never my favorite, however after watching your video here, I’m looking to order a pair as we speak! Great stuff my man!!!👏🔥🔥🔥
For me that got into Jordans after the hype, this was always the coolest one cuz of the design in general, I didn't even know histories and all of that when I chose it as my fave.
Great video as usual, love seeing the bones of these shoes and what there made off instead of peoples subjective opinions on there quality that gets skewed if it’s hype like a halo effect. I want my own toaster too he’s such a chiller ❤️
How funny It is that the entire shoe cutting thing started as a fad, and now its a actual deep and interesting way of verifying shoe quality
And people still buy crappy corporate shoes.
I'm absolutely in love with my Cherry 11's
Jordan 11’s forever known as the “Prom Jordan.” A lot of guys have attended prom in these Jay’s.
Did you ask all guys in the world?
I'm sure converse/ vans beat them out. Although i haven't been in high school in 14 years
Would really appreciate it if you could do more skate shoes like DC's, Etnies, és, DVS etc. I'm sure other skaters would like those videos too.
Love your unbiased and thorough reviews 😊🙏❤️
Yep, emerica, osiris too
Anyone else think that cat was a statue?
I have these shoes for some time now.. in black color.. FYI for people wanting to get these: If you get these for street walking they make your feet super tired (probably because of the stiff carbon fiber plate)
Bro I literally died when he hotdoged the jordan 11 💀
I still have my original ones from high school when our team all ordered them. The sole came off on the way to coaching baseball. I glued it back on haha. Still wear em.
KITTY!!!!!!!!!!!!! also, I don't ever wear 11s, they don't look right on me....but I LOVE the tech in them
they're such a huge step forward from, say, a 6. they're the first "modern" Jordan imo
I'm pretty sure jordans shoes he used on the court was made with alot better materials then what we got at the nike store.
i always thought the same thing.
Damn, i cant imagine wearing a new shoe every game, no wonder he had feet issues
@@bobTom37 new carbon fiber every night cant be good for your foot.
@@bobTom37 you don't wear the same quality shoe he wore.
Thank you for doing this one! Idk if you saw my suggestion to do these on the Jordan 3 video but so glad you chose these. The Jordan 11 has been one of my favorite silhouettes and I'm glad to see that you now love them just like I do. I really learned a lot from this video and can't wait to see which silhouette you guys do next!
Well the cat is totally unimpressed with Jordan shoes
Jordan did not wear the Jordan 11 during the last 17 games of the regular season. He debuted it in Game 1 (May 7, 1995) of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Orlando Magic.
this huurrttttsssssssss
Your videos make me want to work with leather and make shoes from scratch. Thanks for inspiring a new passion!
Best sneaker and shoes analysis by far! Keep it up, been a subscriber from the early days. Happy to see the channel growing.
My favorite J of all-time! Still miss my pairs... had an all red colorway and a white/baby blue colorway.
First time viewer 🙋🏻♂️ love the content dude you definitely gained a sub. I’ve gotta say coming from someone who wanted this shoe soooo bad when I was a kid, every time I went to buy them they were sold out. When I finally started making real money years later I bought a pair and my roommates dog chewed them up. Watching what you’re doing to this shoe legitimately hurts lol this was 15 min of straight torture but I get the reasoning and respect what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. Much respect 💯 just please no more 11s 😂😂😂😂
I own a few Pair of 11s. Hands down my favorite jordan silhouette. I always felt like the 13s are the best quality for some reason
You should do a Material comparison between a fake and the real on the other hand keep it up love your videos man
This was my dream sneaker as a 15 yo, the trailer for the shoe was iconic
I’ve since realised that my feet simply don’t fit within Nike width but while I was persevering these were my favourite shoes
I play in Air Jordan11 Low IE and they are great!!! Lightweight, low to the grown and soft cushioning with a bit of bounce due to the carbon fiber! Very durable for outdoor use and breathable as well!!! Overall the greatest basketball shoes ever!!!
I obviously think that the shoes for Jordan were made with much better quality and better materials than a massive production great video 2 thumbs up 👍
I remember buying these off the shelf when I was in high school. Those were the days.
love mine. glad to see what was inside. now i love em even more
I forgot that another eleven from Jordan was the 72-10. It was the same shoe with the patent leather along with a tumbled leather upper and they are beautiful.
Very underrated pair.
When doing crease and bend tests, you should have a foot inside doing the bending. I’m 100% sure it affects when bending empty at a much harsher angle for the shoe.
I love all these videos on the various Jordan models. Keep going please!
Hi Rose Anvil I had used The Jordan 11 in the 90s playing basketball and everyday use I have no issue on the carbon fiber plate cracking the only is carbon fiber plate is separating in the outsole because of constant use .
