Making a 3 Speed MANUAL Gearbox For RC Cars!
HTML-код

- This gearbox is intented to go with the toyan v8 rc car. The gear ratios are more suitable for this engine that revs lower than an electric motor. I also plan to add a reverse and neutral mechanism.

Everything's always so beautifully engineered, if my Dad was alive to see this channel (and many others on YT) it would have blown his mind!
Sorry for your father bro
Sorry for your loss. Ive also lost my dad a year and a month ago now. I did show him this chanel a day before he died. I dont know how lond lgo youve lost your dad nor how or how old you were but I was 13 and he died in a accident when we were going home from holldays. A year afrer I still miss him but the pain of loss is very rare.
Sad for you bro, i 14 year old and still have dad, hey you young like me and you like how thing
work? GREAT. !!!
Sorry for you.
Your work never ceases to impress! AWESOME
Awesome work Johnny... Took me back to 1984 when I was assembling the 3 speed gearbox for my RC Tamiya Toyota 4 wheel drive pick up. No shifting dogs in that one... You had to come to a complete stop in order to shift otherwise you ran across "If you can't find 'em, grind 'em". I love watching you make and build things. Such talent and skill.
I could watch you build stuff all day, this is such a cool design
This is absolutely genius. The planning put into it is unreal. Beautiful job on it. Wish I had the equipment and knowhow.
It is a work of art. Beautiful! It could be in a museum just as easily as an RC car.
Thanks to the YT algo for suggesting this. Great work! And now I have a far more intuitive feel for what is going on in a geared system.
Seeing how you made everything by yourself and seeing how you put it together, a manual gearbox makes a lot more sense to me now!
I built this transmission for one of my tamiya builds. Had no idea what I was doing at the time while assembling, but after auto mechanic school I now understand gear ratios and how manual transmissions work. The fact that you can fabricate this stuff is next level though. Keep up the good work 🎉
Might wanna verify the shifting “under load”, as in having resistance on the output. Dog boxes usually in corporate a interrupt to facilitate up shifting under power.
Loving the work holding and lathe milling techniques.
By interrupt you mean like a clutch or torque converter right?
@@hugorewucki3046 no. By interrupt I mean to interrupt the ignition. Usually done via a triggered module that allows cutting the ignition, that unloads the transmission for a few milliseconds.
@@georgedreisch2662 That's neat! Thanks for the info.
You could just say flat foot shifting its nothing special just turns of ignition for a split second
@@georgedreisch2662
will need a clutch
can not interrupt an engines ignition if it is self igniting
Beautifully engineered! Love the linear shift, and it’s so smooth. Your content always impresses me 🙂
This is so high quality, I don’t think you’ll find someone else making such exact and precise videos on RUclips
There's a guy that builds a replica Antikythera machine. That's unfreaking believeable but this is almost up there.
Better do some searching there are amazing videos including a guy building 1/3 scale completely from scratch builds with real disc brakes, real transmissions, superchargers, and his detail is second to none. This is a neat project but not outside the realm of any hobby machinist with a mechanical mind.
@@glennedward2201 This guy? www.youtube.com/@Keith5700
Ive just recently built my own lego 4 speed gearbox. 1st gear, 1.66 : 1, 2nd gear, 1 : 1m, 3rd gear, 0.66 : 1. And 1 : 1 reverse. was quite fun to do but its super cool to see the similarities between yours and mine. As always love to see some Johnny content!
Wow, this is beautiful. And moving gears flawless while under load.. !! You are great.
When that backplate went on and all the gears and shafts mated perfectly…hrnng
Yes, I know. Those kind of tolerances are *NOT* easy to achieve!
Some seriously nice work yet again. Seeing the gear sets come together was so satisfying ☺️
Nice work Johnny the machining is perfect the gearbox shifts flawlessly the rpms are spot on. Thanks for another awesome video. Love the channel and content great job as always. ❤🇨🇦
Blows my mind that you can just make gears like that. Precise!
ممتأز تحياتي الخالصة من الجزاءر شكراجزيلا. Thank you very much
Great design, looks like a lot of hard work.
Already can't wait for next episode!
always wondered how the motorcycle gearbox worked... thanks for the vid dude!
I am genuinely impressed. I hope that one day I may have the ability to do something like this.
Exquisite piece of precision model engineering design and development. Great video.
this video is pretty useful for learning how an gearbox work
Stunning engineering, a pleasure to watch 💯🙂
This is brilliant. It also runs great. Thanks for showing exactly how it works. You're one talented guy and one of my favorite channels. I really enjoy watching you make awesome things. I cant wait to see this gear box in action. Well done
And once again A work of art the plan sounds good
I am a student watchmaker and machinist and I love this. Subscribed.
Really cool continuous mesh setup! Curious how the dogs will hold up to the torque and rpm the scale engine is going to throw at it, especially with the curb weight of the vehicle adding load to the transmission. Stoked for the upcoming videos of it in action!
That is seamless Nice work.
Yeah I reckon if you're happy with the finish on the gears. throw them into a bath of electroless nickel plating solution. The alloy will plate it just takes a bit of coaxing is all.
Man, you are a legend to me : everytime i watch one of your video, I'm stunned ! Everything you do, you do it smoothly and all those things are handcrafted like whao! :)
What a craftsman!
This so cool. Can't wait to see it hooked up to a motor.
Badass. Can't wait to see it in an application
Very good job! Hats off! Thanks for showing! 👍👍👍👏👏👏
Greetings from Dresden! 🍻😎
Super dope dude! cant wait to see it mated to the V8!!
The only YT channel i'm really waiting for every time
Beautiful work sir!
very educational, thank you
Nice work Johnny! I like the elegant use of the 2nd gear dog. i've not seen that method before (I mainly deal in 1:1 scale gearboxes!)
While it's really nice to show your gearbox off, It would make a lot of sense to enclose it and run your gears in a bath of oil, if you can keep the localised surface temperature down on the plastic parts, it will help keep them from wearing out horribly. in almost any gearbox the fork is never used to hold the dog/synchro/gear into mesh, there's usually a detent that does that. which takes the pressure off the forks and rings, that's why you shouldn't hold on to the gear-lever while driving, it overrides the detents and wears the forks out prematurely. You could also make metal rings to press onto the plastic dogs, probably steel as your forks are brass already, full size gearboxes use pressed or forged steel forks with bronze "slippers" on the tips to engage the dog-rings.
them survive a lot longer.
he will make a case for it when he will accidentally touch the gears while its working
@@farenikerimator5644 Johny knows his stuff, I highly doubt he'll make that mistake but it can happen i guess
looks like a very fine job
I can watch this all day
Next step: making a Koenigsegg Regera NO gearbox.
This isn't 100% true the regera has a gearbox it has 1 forward gear at 2.73:1 and reverse its just a direct drive
It would be interesting to see if it's possible to make the koenigsegg free valve technology work on one of these little nitro engines
@@Matty.Hill_87 now this would be interesting
@@Matty.Hill_87 someone did that on a Miata check it out
@@stanley4290 I'll have to check that out, thank you
your content is making everyone's day keep going when we are down
if my brother was still alive he would make another car with me
but he died from stage 5 cancer
Very nice work.
I'd love to have the equipment to be able to do that kind of stuff for my King hauler.
He finally did it. Very very cool
. I had a complete plastic see-through car in the '60s with brakes and a transmission steering gear but the transmission was like that it was a top loading transmission , pretty neat.
I always stay amazed at your work! If you are willing can you show your CAD/CAM process? Maybe a separate channel?
The best precision on every project! Love watching you build/make projects, good stuff🤟🏽👍🏼👌🏽
Yes thanks for the reply.
@@thehoodcsf08 Hi, please do not respond at any account that has to do with telegram, it's not me, it's a scam.
1:46 I like the look of that opinion gear!
absolutely gorgeous
Amazing work
Dude you are so good, thanks for the inspiration !
Your skills have improved young master
Thank you for this video, you have an incredible talent.
Brother what you are showing to our community is an amazing prize to us. Thank you for what you do, please keep on doing it we love what you do 👍👍
You continue to surprise me every video. Amazing work. I see the gear box's final drive is slightly underdriven. Should be a torque machine with that toyan v8. Can't wait for the next vid!
Wow😲 impresionante, ¡ necesito una ya!!! 😂😂😂 gran trabajo 👏 👏👏
Tamiya Knight Hauler/Globe Liner box...there's a set of helical brass gears for the Tamiya box that makes it just about indestructible.
Amazing skill to do this
Wow, dude. Amazing craftsmanship. You should enter your creations into the internet museum of craftsmanship.
That is a thing of beauty
The lack of ongoing commentary and no music is something I enjoy and sets your channel apart. I must admit tho, that I very nearly jump whenever that dog barks, but only because I don't have one. Definitely not a negative comment or request for any changes. Just thought you'd get a laugh.
Great work!
Perfect,congrats!
Well here's to hoping you 3d print a neato bellhousing for this and attach it to that v8 that I'm equally hopeful is going to be put to use in some rc muscle.
Nice beautiful I need to make a gearbox like that for my minibike, scale it up
You're one sharp dude!
i cant wait for this build!
Such a clever dude 👌👌
Incredible 👍🏻🏆
Very Polished Video Mr Q.
skills bro..you have them
Christmas came early. JohnnyQ90 posted
Soo cooool and beautiful !!!
Oh man you just keep stepping up your game! Im so glad I subscribed to you i really enjoy your work
If interested you should take a look at those old Dutch saw mills they are filled with integrate gears and early diferential gears .
I always enjoy this video's.
Pretty impressive
Dude you are amazing, I wish I knew how to do this sorta stuff.
This might just be awesome!
Very nice as always..
This makes me miss building NASCAR engines. We had every machine you could think of. Our shop did everything from building the cars and bodies to the engines. When I got the job he gave us a test. We both had an assembled engine on the stand. Our job was to dissemble it. Well after 2 hours I was done and had everything lined up in order of where it came out, I got to apprentice in the motor shop, the other guy ended up sweeping the floors and just general help. He did stick with it and became a hell of a fabricator. I can do my fair share of fab work but I never pursued it and never developed my potential.
Cool project 👍
Clever man that's going to be great in your next truck
Great video!
Really great!
Nice thats awesome
you do very well. high tech
JohnnyQ90 BUILT THIS IN A CAVE...WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!
very nice constant mesh gearbox, next time you can try using helical gears, they are less noisy and stronger.
very nicely shown manufacturing process. I thought you were going to lubricate the bearings with oil to prevent overheating!
I think your work is brilliant, can't find what you want make it! And make it you do
Beautiful
