For Christmas, I bought my 21yo son tickets to see Mr. Oliver in Chicago on 12/30, as he is one of our favorite people in existence. We drove 5 1/2 hours one way. We had the best time!

I always cracked up at John Oliver on Mock The Week and when they said he would have his own show in America, I was over the moon. His is incredible and he and his team certainly deliver on Last Week Tonight!
His dismantling of Rupert murdoch on mock thx week was thing of beauty
Rupert murdoch was trying to get complete control bskyb which at the time included sky news. Which would have given him a monopoly over the UK media. Tory supporting murdoch -ites were arguing that murdoch was a fit and proper person. John oliver destroyed him and then much later revealed that rant had lead to his decision to go the USA.
It was the news hour. And it was the only time that show got political.
John was actually great in Community. He may say he doesn't have range as an actor, but he was definitely good.

Agreed -- it's nice to see they've largely moved on from the Letterman-Leno-O'Brien stuff (all mostly Leno's fault, let's be clear) to being a group that supports each other.
As someone from Illinois, hearing these 2 talk about Malort in such a foreign way is so great. For those wondering, it is a botanical not a fizzy wine and it is like if you combined Jager and absinthe but made it worse. We literally make guests take Malort shots as a prank.

When he sub'ed for Jon Stewart on the daily show one summer while Jon was directing his movie..you then knew how great he was...he learned from the master..and boy did he ace the process...
When I was a kid, we'd dress up in costumes for Mardi Gras, and I remember the year my parents wrote my full name and their phone number on my bare chest with permanent marker. I went around lifting my dress to show everybody, like a sensible 80's child.
Ah the nostalgic innocence, both of your past and the era that was your youth.
I was born in '81, I remember being taken to Mardi Gras here in Sydney City, Australia and greatly enjoying the festivity and flair and extravagance of it all.
It's sad and absurd the way that Republicans try to shame and threaten the LGBTQI+ community these days.

I love John Oliver on Last Week Tonight ❤ and his gun control documentary and on Community !!!
I think that he's just a fantastic public figure who is hilarious and inventive and smart; always humble too as he credits his team on LWT.
But watching him interview we get a real chance to see just how lovely and kind he is; helps that he agrees with me on all politics, social and moral and ethical matters. Absolutely love him.
