You have done a fantastic job, Megan. I have seen other layouts or floor plans inside yurts and I really like the way you organized your property. My camp setup is off grid therefore I have setup a solar power system to provide my camp with power. Also what I have done is i built a wind turbine using a truck alternator that I connected to a home made wind mill. This allows me to take advantage of breezes and windy days to keep my batteries fully charged. The other thing I did was switch all my lights to led. I thought I would share my idea about the alternator in case you might be interested. I wish you continued success while you develop your property and in all your other endeavors,Megan.

Lulastic Hippyshake has some issues to ponder about yurts. (see her videos on youtube ) She says mice chew through the walls and eat all her stuff, rain pounds so loud on the roof that you can not hear anything or talk , mold grows on the inside walls, insects are always a problem, and more. So , yurt living is not foolproof. AND all that finished stuff inside must have cost more than the yurt itself ! FYI
We are familiar with Lulastic Hippyshake. All those thing are concerns but we don't feel quite the same. We have been living in our yurt for almost 5 years now and we have only ever had a problem with mice once. The rain can sometimes be loud but that is only during a downpour that it is too loud. The only time we had a problem with mold is when we didn't have a woodstove the first winter we ever lived here. Insects haven't been a huge issue, every house has insects, All in all there are pros and cons with every type of house. We have used recycled materials for a lot of the interior so it doesn't have to cost a fortune but if you want it to then it can. We know people that have spent 100K on their yurt and furnishing it. Like I said pros and cons to everything.
Cool! What do you do for water? Or rather how do you get water to the bathroom for showering/cooking? and what do you do for security? I have been thinking about a property in Joshua Tree but as a single female, I am concerned about being out there alone.

We really aren't the best people to ask about goats. There is another youtuber that you could ask. Rose over on Wholesome Roots has goats and she could give you a better answer than we can Sorry! Thank you for watching Alison!!
It really depends on the county and what their building code is. Our county was a pain to deal with but I know other people that haven't had an issue and it all depends if it is considered a main residence or an auxiliary building. We can talk more about this if you want.
First off we aren't off grid and have never said we were. Megan is off grid and the only social media she is on is Instagram. Just because you want to be off grid doesn't mean you want to be alone in the woods with no connection to the world. There is no reason to make unnecessary comments about how others are living.

Yes the Mongolian people have been living in yurts for thousands of years, Yes people do live in yurts year round (we have lived in ours for five years) when I say temporary I mean that they can be easily taken down and moved. As you know the Mongolians that do live in yurts are nomadic people and move their herds and flocks to new pasture often.
Steve we have lived in ours for almost five years and the only time we had a problem with mold and mildew was when we didn't have a wood stove, the first winter we were here. We haven't had any problems in the summer even when it was 100% humidity and had all the windows open. We always had fans going. We are in NC and it is always hot and humid in the summer here.
