Most of us need to think in this way and make it a reality...... Awesome

My wife and I chose not to have children, however, if we had done it differently, we most definitely would have wanted to do something like this for our child. I think this is so important, especially in today's throw-away society, to know what is necessary to live a fruitful life. I believe I would homeschool as long as it made my child feel fulfilled. I realize that maybe at a certain age, a child might want something else as far as friends and such, but as I've watched many RUclips channels on different styles of living and raising families, I believe we are coming back around to what's important not only for us as humans, but for the earth and sustaining a lifestyle that is conducive to giving back to the earth and taking care of it as it takes care of us. My wife is great about buying second hand, and recycling which helps us to not only care for the earth but to save money. We love what this couple has done and as we near retirement, we will be able to sell our home and live a much smaller life with a smaller footprint. These videos inspire and excite us! We have lived tiny before, but as our parents have gotten older, they needed to be close to family which is why we have a house/duplex at this point, so they can have a place to live and still provide all of us with privacy. This whole reclamation idea is the way to go. It keeps useful material out of the landfills, and it makes building a home more affordable. I am looking at that kitchen and thinking that it would have been a crime to toss it all into the dumpster. Good cabinets and counters, double sinks, an island. All useful and much needed. Think about it; all over North America people are renovating or tearing down buildings. And all that is headed into landfill. What about recycling the good stuff? A decent one room condo is going for over $250 000.00 these days. And it took less than $50 000.00 to build this house. Think about it.
Habitat for humanity restore does just that. It takes donations of furniture and building supplies ie: cabinets, lights, sinks, doors, countertop, toilets.... and then sells them and uses the money to help others. And they pick up all you do is call and make an appointment and they come and pick it up whatever your getting rid of. It counts as a donation to shop there so you can also write off the stuff you buy in your taxes 👍🏻 and you keep good stuff from rotting in the dump. I’ve found so really great stuff for a fraction of what I would have paid in store
Sandra Nelson I have reclaimed a lot of stuff over the years. Keep in mind that reclaimed materials and furniture can be very economical, and in some cases older stuff that is reclaimed is a lot better than newer things. But, the romance of reclaiming stuff fades for many people when faced with the time investiture need to make reclaimed materials actually work for you. Yes, so true. I like Habitat ReStore as well. I've gotten such good things for free (on the side of the road) and cheap and I'm incorporating into my builds as we speak.
@@Amanda_in_wonderland sadly it doesn't work sometimes. We has a habitat for humanity store in Virginia Beach and it closed after a couple years. I was sad to see that go. Really impressed with how immaculate everything is! Glad to see solid walls, seems much safer against intruders, 2- and 4_footed kinds, insulated, can run pipes and wiring through, etc. Beautiful inside and outdoors. 😃👏🌲🌲🏔️
Oh man! Homesteading & with kids 😱 💯 Side note: Every episode is amazing. I do really appreciate when you interview ppl that have been living tiny for a while.
Thanks so much! Yeah, it's great when we find people who have settled into their homes. We do plan on doing revisits with some of the others though to see how they are getting on down the track.
I love this channel and watching the way they are interviewed. It's really cool to see how people live and why they live the way they do. But holy crap the toxicity in the comments sections, on every video it so disgusting.

This home is absolutely gorgeous! The couple was so talented, wise, and artistic. The husband knows so much about living off the land, I could listen to him all day. It’s so refreshing to see people like this who have chosen their path wisely and unplugged from city life and all its traps. I hope to see more videos from this lovely couple.
I agree lol. It is wonderful but, I live "traditional" and haven't had a dishwasher in years. But it is a great way to raise a family I think. Going back to our roots so to speak. Although, I applaud the composting toilet as well I wondered if it draws animals being all open like that?🤔
They sure are! On a side note, it's on my bucket list to go crystal hunting in Arkansas! I was so gutted that we didn't have a chance to do it last time we were there, so I'm trying to arrange a big trip for next year. :)
Inspiring. Most of us dream but few do. I feel so disconnected from the outside living in a small 4 wall apartment. And what a gift they have given their child, to be able to learn about growing food and living with animals and nature. God Bless then.

Maya Brits maybe they are well informed and understand they are claiming to be off-grid (meaning you are not connected to the electrical grid) yet they are connected to the electrical grid. They use propane etc. drywall and insulation in a yurt. Very confusing. They just grew a beard and dreads and claim to be off grid and eco friendly. They just have a garden is all.
@@organicthug5220 more often the slang 'off-grid' is not referring to an electrical grid, rather it encompasses a larger topographical grid. They are removing themselves from the physical distribution of needs that come with typical living arrangements and immersing themselves in a 'more' primitive lifestyle. We should be trying to understand the nature of one another's language as opposed to disfavoring right away. They seem like happy beautiful people
@@organicthug5220 nasty people never understand that being nasty is separate from the actual facts of the situation. you can still react in a civil manner. there is no crime being committed here. this couple has been here 1.5 years. if you've read about permaculture, you'll know they just got there.
@@chelseahartshorn3509 Wrong. "Off gird" first and foremost means not relying on utility companies and the government. You can invent whatever it means for yourself I suppose, but being hooked up to the Electric grid is an immediate diqualifier to actually being off gird, or "mostly off grid". It doesn't make them bad people, or not a lovely family, it just means they aren't off grid, so relax with the overwrought drama.
Ppl will always have somthing smart to say no matter what no matter how well ppl are living there’s always a negative comment coming from every direction
How your are living, your respect for the land and its bounty. How you are raising your young son to appreciate the land and learn its important principles. Your life has a genuine purity of purpose, which is so rare to find in the world. Thank you so much for sharing, and I am inspired by your story.
I love homes like this where everything in it has a story. That makes living there so special. And their son is growing up in a gorgeous environment. He will be able to live off the land and have an amazing life. What a beautiful family. We have an off grid property. Only 12 acres. But we are talking about possibly adding a few more acres. A man who has about 100 acres behind us has offered to sell us a little more land. I like the idea of having at least 20 acres but if we can get enough to have 25 that would be nice for my husband. He hunts. And I might try at some point. But I think the animals are so beautiful. We have a lot of deer and turkeys. hope we can have something as nice as this family one day. Thank you for making this video. Leslye
They talk sooo much about the little one getting his hands dirty and how important the connection to nature is. You can tell they were raised in a city.😂 Good for them.
@@nealm6764 Yes, and it's new for them at the moment. After a while, it won't be so new and they will probably have the same attitude as those who grew up on the land. I didn't see any sanctimonious or superior attitudes. I just saw how thrilled they are to be able to give their youngster this kind of life.
We have largely been separated from nature. It's great that they recognize how important it is. I am leaving the suburbs and doing something similar with my family. I grew up in the country, and I miss it.
@@judylloyd7901 Yes. I agree. All I saw was a couple expressing the importance of self-reliance and respect for nature. I think a lot of people forget that those in cities do not naturally think this way. It's very important and what I see is excitement.
My dream life. You've got the right idea about empowering your child by passing on what's most important knowing how to survive and how to stay alive on this planet. I appreciate you and send much gratitude for showing me how it is possible to be comfortable yet still closely connected to the untouched natural land. And only making use of what it had to offer but at the same time respecting the soil even making it even richer for the betterment of healthy living for you and those after. I thank you so much. I'm super happy about this video. By far the best suitable place to raise a family. Nice work.
Definitely could be a pandemic series where ppl provide video updates! Interested to see as their child has gotten older what they're doing for space and if irrigation with grey water helped insulate them from fire.

I am a retired builder,, [ not by choice, retired per SS physicians unfortunately stroke/tumors/neuropathy in rt foot] . I have remodeled many many homes and used thrift stores, 2nd hand stores dump, even found great items in other people's trash being tossed out. I love the way you designed the home, addition, land around you & most of all besides the 30 acres my other fav is the kitchen layout Beth designed. Wow, that is a kitchen to die for. my ex girlfriend and I did one large project in Northport Long Island New York together. We remodeled an old 5 story rooming house on Main st near the ocean. It had 37 rooms I believe in it when we started tearing down walls etc Together we laid out/designed 7 seven fully brand new condos/apartments. Getting kitchen/bath cabinets from others who were remodeling all over Long Island. What a challenge but what a result. It took me & couple helpers almost 11 months to finish. We did soup to nuts. Your kitchen reminds me of the nicest 2 bedroom one we built. All of your furnishings too bring back so many good memories for me, you Both have great taste. I applaud you Both for the Beautiful home you've created especially for your son to grow up and learn all you are teaching him. More folks should have your outlook & attitude, it would be a much nicer world. Good Luck God/Buddha Bless you. Peace to you. Stay Healthy Happy & Safe.
Thank you for sharing your story. God bless your family this is so beautiful how you've built a home of your own. Leaving the big city behind and going natural. Ive done the same in similar way, left Big Apple (NYC) came out to a home built by my husband & his father in Puerto Rico close to the ocean Caribbean sea waters and I'm never going back. This is how life should be Peaceful. Thank you Jesus Àmen.
Hello~ I'm journalist from Kazakhstan. My ancestors lived in similar yurts in the past. I would like to ask you and Bret and Beth for permission to write an article about this video and their live. ^ ^
They should line the walls with tapestry rugs and make it really a beautiful showcase the way the Mongolians do! Just love yurts! They are amazing!!!! So beautiful and easy to setup with little need for much and everything is typically cosmetic so it's very simple to do especially with nomadic farming. 💚💚💚💚💚💚stay green fingered 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚 PS I would consider figuring out a way to offer heated flooring if you plan to stay put in one spot, only if that's an option. But for basic nomadic living that wouldn't work too easily unless the flooring could also be disassembled and reassembled every move. But it would be worth the luxury to have better heating especially in this cold climate.
This is absolutely beautiful. From the lifestyle, family life and philosophy. Then what the wife did with the interior! WOW her home crafts knocked me out! Gosh the pottery and lamps tables! Loved it all!
I love it very beautiful wood art work u guys did I love the open space kitchen and your beautiful garden thanks for sharing the house tour of your home looks very cozy !
Do it. You won't be sorry. If you don't do you may regret it all your life. It won't be easy, you will have to do things when its cold, when its wet, when its hot.....You can't ever say "I will do that tomorrow" because one day you will wake up and tomorrow will be gone.
This is my first time learning what a Yurt is, beautiful home and spacious; my husband own land, and purchasing a yurt is a great idea to look into. I enjoyed the vide, lots of creative idea, and a good home is what you make of it, and her love is all over that home; thanks for opening your beautiful home with us. I most certainly enjoyed it.
They are already hooked up to electricity and using gas... they don't move this yurt around all the time, so could have make a regular septic toilet/bathroom for more comfort, IMO. Overall though - beautiful place to live and raise kids!
Besides useing the grey water for the trees ,humanure is used after composting for the same (to feed the trees) , it's one of many options in permaculture ,instead of storing in an underground tank which then requires it to be delt with at sewage treatment facility.
I live about an hour from them and it’s one of the most BEAUTIFUL places I have ever been!!!!❤ congratulations 🎉 on a beautiful home 🏡 and land!!! 🌲 🌲 🌲
I think this is beautiful. The yurt is such a pleasing home size and shape and to put drywall and insulation is brilliant. They have great taste and truly have worked at making a very light on the land home. I just visited the Kogi Indians in Colombia who have a very strong belief about being good to the earth. Their houses are similar and they garden in a similar way. No livestock or really big torn up tracts. If they were able to afford 30 acres in rural CA (which is no where near the price of the crappiest home in the SF Bay Area), then more power to them. They are protecting and being great stewards and that is likely why they had the opportunity. Bless you both!! I'd love to learn more about your life.
I'm so tired of living with a lot of stuff and in this structured Lifestyle… before I die I wish while I'm healthy... to be able to do these things and live this way. If only I could find a man that is on the same page and we just get off the grid and live, honestly live in peace, thats freedom to me.
I’m a man and I’m looking into getting rid of most of my “stuff” and only keeping what I actually need then moving into something like a tiny house or equivalent. I’m single and prefer not to go it alone so if you are serious let me know lol. You never know, we might be meant for each other lol. Im not an alcoholic, don’t do drugs, never been in prison lol, I’ve never put my hands on a woman in anger, and I’m generally in a happy mood lol
from Mongolia it's our traditional home ...it's named "Ger"....we used it for tourist people....i'm so proud of you...it's so newly thing...i also looked our traditional yurt another video... then i think wow so amazing...you are so creative people

They seem like wonderful people, and the home is beautiful! Now I have to ask, and hope someone will come back and answer: Are they safe from the fire situations in the state?
Not every tiny home makes me cry tears of joy, but a *Yurt* of all places, lol! This nest is soooo beautifully laid out inside with gorgeous woods & woven crafts all over, vand the glasswork, wow, nice job!!👍🏻😄 This place is absolutely STUNNING!! I knew someone 40 yrs ago who named her son Cedar Robin, so l think it's cute & cool that their wee one is named Sequoia!👍🏻 And this precious little angel is being treated to a very unforgettable childhood! As an older person, this is the way l think more kids would benefit being raised like. Less video games and more playing outside in nature. My goodness that kitchen area just screams to be used enjoyed every day -- it would certainly entice me into enjoying cooking + baking again, like l did when my kids were young. I just can't get over what a gem this beauty is...and BONUS: a beautiful Dog too!!❤️🐕❤️ 🐾🌈☮️🇨🇦
That is truly s nice Yurt and something I could live in permanently, as it seems people always use it as a temporary dwelling until their real house is built
I think most people don't use yurts permanently because they aren't meant to be permanent structures, they breakdown within a couple years. So you have to replace and repair often. Making them more work and expense in the long run.
Since they are made to be easily taken down and relocated, it is possible people are concerned thieves might haul it away. I don't like that you can't use the windows as emergency exits, and yurts usually only have one exit door. Oddly, people tend to put their wood burning stove next to the door, too!
People live in ramshakle houses all over the US. Visit upstate NY, West Virginia, or any other rural part of the US. It's not really an unusual way to live. I wish they had forgone toxic drywall and insulation and opted for a natural hay insulation solution and clay walls. I also want to add that one can definitely live frugally and minimally in cities, towns and the countryside without having to resort to this sort of "build it from scratch and escape society" living. Sometimes working with what you already have is best. I feel like they were the kind of people who bragged about not having a TV while watching netflix on their wi-fi in their city days. :-/
It also seems a lot of these products that do this are very well off financially. Yes, I hear people say they haven't had to for 6 years now, BUT they spend all their spare time on youtube lol.
@@brandyatracey3003 Rest assured there is a trust fund involved. It's the same as people purchasing brand new teslas and claiming they are "green" as opposed to buying a used honda with mad gas milage, that doesn't demand new resources for production, and endevoring to walk or bike as much as possible. They could have bought a foreclosed house or cabin in the country with acreage and farmed that. Doing things from scratch is always the least sustainable method.
Great episode and thank you again. There are many negative comments here, perhaps some with justification - whatever - but for my money it was refreshing to see a couple actually deeply considering their place in the world, their roles as parents, their environmental responsibilities etc. and actually following their convictions. Also great to hear such well articulated ideas - smart people indeed. Good luck to them. Cheers and thanks from Dave in Sydney
Everything wonderful... When I heard the son's name though it made me laugh. Not a bad name, just definitely the name you would hear from this type of life style family. Love how this whole thing feels tho. Gorgeous
It is very good they are teaching their child to live off the land because one day our lives will be resorted back to doing such now most of these kids nowadays wouldn't even know how to plant their own food let alone grow it and harvest it I commend you guys for living like this during these times
Thank you so much for inspiring me. Your show is really showing me that i can live this way, too. Keep the great work of making people realize that having less is keeping in tune with life.
Its gorgeous, but to call it a tiny house when I would estimate its about 3 times as big as my bricks and mortar house, is a bit of a stretch! Love yurts though.
I have a lot going on today, but I wanted to slow down for a minute to say what a beautiful home and great property! I'm sure the bad puns are a plenty, but here we go... Brett and Beth, *yurt* doing it right! 🤘😁🤘 🖤🦇
Washing machines and dishwashers are so cheap on the used market...why not. But Im old school...I actually like to do the dishes by hand...and if there are guests...the after meal kitchen is the social focus area. Different strokes for different folks.
Kudos to this artistic, creative couple who repurposed a lot of things to build a super tiny home. What a wonderful life for your son. Thanks for the great video Rasa and Bryce. This one definitely is living big in a tiny home👍
Hey Bryce, how about expanding from just mainly your Tiny-house focus to also include more variety, such as alternative off grid technical solutions and alternative homes eg; geodesic dome homes, more on yurts, and also micro hydro electric schemes that provide enough power to power a home or two, from the adjacent stream, and also rocket stoves; go visit Ernie and Erica Wisner, the pioneers of early rocket stove development, also more on permaculture setups, (which Ernie and Erica Wisner also are interested in), and small wind turbines, and biomass anaerobic digesters that produce methane gas for cooking, and nitrogen rich fertilizer for the garden.- Anaerobic digesters are one solution for processing composting toilet waste. - and also video anything to do with off grid living, where clever unusual, alternative low impact, nature-friendly systems have been created to meet everyday living needs for off grid living ? And 1 metre high x 2 metre long raised veggie gardens, so you don't have to bend over, and also geothermal heated green houses that use the ambient ground temperature extracted from 4 metres below ground level to warm the air sufficiently enough for the green house to flourish in a snowy winter. Food for thought !!
That´s no longer a tiny home. That home is far bigger than what I could afford as a student! - and it looks amazing! Also, I wouldn't call it off grid with electricity from the city. Nor sustainable, when you need such a pile of wood to heat a poorly isolated palace. Still, I get why they chose to live like that. I'd just be more honest about it.
They grow more trees than they burn. They are negative carbon dealers! All deadly carbon emissions comes from artificial menour and the plow!!! And 40% traditional emissions. Stop eating globally industrially chemically produced food!!! Get a life out of your neighburhood, people!
Bryce mentioned a couple times "homesteading", so maybe they didn't have to spend so much for the land if they are truly homesteading. That wasn't made clear. But I agree with another poster in that these people seem more to be playing at roughing it, rather than seriously trying to live off-grid and eco-friendly. Roughing it with all the amenities.
They said they live over an hour away from anywhere that has a big store. Northern CA if a very big area and a lot of it is remote, depopulated and cheap when you get away from the Bay Area. I'm guessing they're somewhere east of Chico or Red Bluff, where virtually nobody lives. And, yeah, it'd be cold outside in the winter.

Really impressed with how immaculate everything is! Glad to see solid walls, seems much safer against intruders, 2- and 4_footed kinds, insulated, can run pipes and wiring through, etc. Beautiful inside and outdoors. 😃👏🌲🌲🏔️

Side note: Every episode is amazing. I do really appreciate when you interview ppl that have been living tiny for a while.
Thanks so much! Yeah, it's great when we find people who have settled into their homes. We do plan on doing revisits with some of the others though to see how they are getting on down the track.
Hi Heather
They are not living "tiny"
I love this channel and watching the way they are interviewed. It's really cool to see how people live and why they live the way they do. But holy crap the toxicity in the comments sections, on every video it so disgusting.

This home is absolutely gorgeous! The couple was so talented, wise, and artistic. The husband knows so much about living off the land, I could listen to him all day. It’s so refreshing to see people like this who have chosen their path wisely and unplugged from city life and all its traps. I hope to see more videos from this lovely couple.
This has to be the most positive comment channel that exists on RUclips, there should be an award for that 😄

This isn’t exactly ‘tiny’ living. It’s awesome though 👍
I agree lol. It is wonderful but, I live "traditional" and haven't had a dishwasher in years. But it is a great way to raise a family I think. Going back to our roots so to speak. Although, I applaud the composting toilet as well I wondered if it draws animals being all open like that?🤔
Tiny living is as much about your impact on the environment as the square footage you occupy.
Not tiny, but we like to showcase all kinds of alternatives and I think it's healthy to break away from our usual every now and then. :)
Its bigger than my house XD
Many tiny homes are creative and also have appliances. A tiny home can be anything
Back to the land! Yurts are a great low cost solution for sustainable living. Awesome video as always.
They sure are! On a side note, it's on my bucket list to go crystal hunting in Arkansas! I was so gutted that we didn't have a chance to do it last time we were there, so I'm trying to arrange a big trip for next year. :)
That’s awesome! When you do, let me know and we can go digging together. 😃⚒💎
Yes!! They are giving the greatest gift to their son. The gift of no debt. Wonderful!
Is there any solution for countries with very cold winter?
Stephanie Yeah, I also wondered about the insulation.
I love inside of their Yurt. They manage to make it very beautiful, spaciest and comfortable.
Inspiring. Most of us dream but few do. I feel so disconnected from the outside living in a small 4 wall apartment. And what a gift they have given their child, to be able to learn about growing food and living with animals and nature. God Bless then.
Was there ever an update? Curious to know how the lil guys room will be made to suit him as he grows?

I think they are an amazing family...pity about all these nasty comments from superficial know it all folk

Yep, country folk just do it, they don't get so sanctimonious and superior about it. It just comes with life.

Hello~ I'm journalist from Kazakhstan. My ancestors lived in similar yurts in the past. I would like to ask you and Bret and Beth for permission to write an article about this video and their live. ^ ^
Cilvery Cilvery also yurt is from Mongolia. Just search on wikipedia 👌🏼
They should line the walls with tapestry rugs and make it really a beautiful showcase the way the Mongolians do! Just love yurts! They are amazing!!!! So beautiful and easy to setup with little need for much and everything is typically cosmetic so it's very simple to do especially with nomadic farming. 💚💚💚💚💚💚stay green fingered 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
PS I would consider figuring out a way to offer heated flooring if you plan to stay put in one spot, only if that's an option. But for basic nomadic living that wouldn't work too easily unless the flooring could also be disassembled and reassembled every move. But it would be worth the luxury to have better heating especially in this cold climate.
In coming years these people will be masters in surviving in nature and people living in cities will be begging them to teach them
So you have discovered the most perfect way to live calmly, happily, usefully, economically in such a loving familiar environment.

My Mongolian ancestry has been calling me to a yurt for sometime now.
Do it. You won't be sorry. If you don't do you may regret it all your life. It won't be easy, you will have to do things when its cold, when its wet, when its hot.....You can't ever say "I will do that tomorrow" because one day you will wake up and tomorrow will be gone.

Total isolation but still with all the comforts of life.
What's wrong with that?

Agree - that wasn't a 'real' Sun Oven. LOL!
And where'd the meat come from?
+strangertobluewater Agreed . 😊

Beautiful home and decor. It is not really “roughing” it I don’ think with electricity...dishwasher...washing machines ect...but lovely...
Washing machines and dishwashers are so cheap on the used market...why not. But Im old school...I actually like to do the dishes by hand...and if there are guests...the after meal kitchen is the social focus area. Different strokes for different folks.
why does everyone expect them to 'rough it' 100%....it's not a competition, it is what each family can manage and small changes make huge impacts
Maya is right. It's a compromise. One size does not fit all. This seems like a lovely family.

What a wonderful life for your son. Thanks for the great video Rasa and Bryce. This one definitely is living big in a tiny home👍
I love how balanced they are. They work with the earth but still stay connected to society.
Food for thought !!
awesome idea all suggestions would be really interesting. its definitely the direction more of us need to be heading to look after our Earth.
As someone who lives at 6,300 feet in the northern sierra.... this is 100% the low sierra lol, probably 1,000 - 3,000 feet elevation.
I agree. The trees are the tip off. And this many acres in the Sierra? Maybe 50 years ago.
This guy does a great job at explaining their purpose.
Been there done that, old now. Brings a tear to my eye. So glad you eat real food, brings hope to me. You are on a path!
Thats not a yurt, it's a Tardis. Well done to a lovely couple and gorgeous little boy.
Imagine having the money to buy 30 ACRES OF LAND IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. I ain't going outside to sit on an open john in that case. Brrrr!
LaurieEyeBee they’re probably cannabis growers, that’s how they afford it
Bryce mentioned a couple times "homesteading", so maybe they didn't have to spend so much for the land if they are truly homesteading. That wasn't made clear. But I agree with another poster in that these people seem more to be playing at roughing it, rather than seriously trying to live off-grid and eco-friendly. Roughing it with all the amenities.
LaurieEyeBee 🤣🤣🤣
They said they live over an hour away from anywhere that has a big store. Northern CA if a very big area and a lot of it is remote, depopulated and cheap when you get away from the Bay Area. I'm guessing they're somewhere east of Chico or Red Bluff, where virtually nobody lives. And, yeah, it'd be cold outside in the winter.
