I remember reading that when Tom formed Evergrey, he only wanted to play guitar. He couldn't find a vocalist for the band. Family and friends talked him into singing as well.
Evergrey is my favorite band for more then 15 years. And it's so heartwarming see you discovering them with tears on your eyes. I have same wonderful emotions for all years with this band. And more important that at finaly the world become to know Evergrey. Looking forward you listening more old stuff from guys!

I’d have to add Passing Through. One of Evergrey’s best imo. The pace, energy, solo breakdowns are incredible! Song fits the title perfectly.

I remember seeing Evergrey in metal magazines from like 14 years ago... and I only got into them 2 years ago... I missed so much.
Been listening to Evergrey for 20 years and it pains me that they aren't more known and appreciated because they're so f'ng good. Tom can sing his ass off, especially live. Enjoyed seeing the emotional response because they trigger that in me on several tracks. Good stuff.

Tom’s voice creates a place of safety, comfort, and reassurance. You have to react to King of Errors and of course In Orbit with Floor. you can imagine their voices together are amazing.
Evergrey has been a band that has given us great music for a very long time! I really love them, the vocalist is powerful and full of feeling. I really love them, and I have done so for tears. From a personal perspective, I’ve been around rock music/musicians for 30 years now - a greater part of my life- and metal among a great variety of genres, and still listen to Evergrey almost daily.
I didn’t realize who the lead singer was at first. I first saw him being interviewed by Floor Jansen on her RUclips channel. It was a great conversation about music and mental health. Very informative. He seems like a great dude.

Evergrey has been one of my favorite bands since 1998 when I first discovered them. They are only getting better. Cant wait to see them again. The last band I saw before the pandemic was Evergrey in feb 2020 and it might be the first band I see when the pandemic is over in the fall of 2021.

Yep, their music has been played on my Spotify 90% of my time ever since I discovered them. Never disappointed. Drum sound, guitar, keyboard, and seriously, the bass and the Tom’s vocal are just mind-blowing🔥🤘!
This was my first time hearing them. They kick ass. I’m adding them to my playlist. One of the only positives of this pandemic is that I’ve had more time to explore RUclips. I discovered Nightwish, Epica, Unleash the Archers, Delain, Aryeon, now Evergrey and I’m sure I’m missing some but this music and these fun reaction channels have made the last year better for me. I discovered Evergrey back in 2008. I can feel you man (when you realize where the hell have I been since they published their first album). First song I heard was Touch of blessing and my reaction was the same as yours in this video. Since then Evergrey in my number one band. Been lucky enough and caught them Live in Zagreb in 2019.

I discovered them a year ago. I usually don’t listen to metal but the album The Atlantic just pulled me in to this whole new world and I was mesmerised, and still am. Love the new album!

My wife and I got to meet the guys years ago when they were on tour with In Flames and they were very nice and gracious we will never forget and always will be fans of Evergrey 🤘🙃🤘
I discovered this group in 2000 seems to me with a duet with his wife (for every tears that fall)

Wow! Then you have a lot of good albums to get goosebumps and also cry to! I love Evergrey, and have seen them 17 times live. Last band I saw before corona hit Sweden.
Same thing for me, the Stockholm gig. I'm so happy having the chance to experience that before it hit us. You beat me with a couple of shows when it comes to see them live, I think I have 14 gigs on my list.

I played their Recreation Day album to death back when I was 15-16 years old. Then I kinda fell off the wagon for some reason, probably because I started listening to more rock than metal at that time. And then I pretty much rediscovered them when they released The Atlantic. Haven't looked back since. What I HAVE been doing since though is back tracking through what I have missed for about 13 years and play all of that to death as well. There isn't any other band that makes me feel all the emotions I do when listening to them than Nightwish. Except Evergrey. Tom's voice, Henrik's solos, Johan's bass tone, fuckin' hell, all of it. You have so many musical and emotional experiences to look forward to with them and I hope this channel will be the output for it!
This reaction reminds me about the first time I listened to In Flames in 2008. The album "A sense of purpose" had just been released and I listened to 'I'm the highway" in a website. After listened to this song I started to search for the old albums and today they are one of my favorite bands ever. Gothemburg never disappoints! Another great reaction, Tank!🤘🤘

Love 'em from the very first note I've heard back in 2004! I've been 3 times in their gigs with meet and greet after the shows. They were so down to earth. Tom is just one of a kind without a shodow of a doubt. Great and emotional reacting video...I can watch ur reactions and comments over and over again. As a huuuge Evergrey fan I can recommend soo many of their tracks, but u can check out "All I Have" from their previous album. Greetings from Bulgaria ^^
I remember the first time i heard Evergrey. I looked just like you. Totally shocked and overwhelmed. And incredibly pleased. I am a sucker for for great melodies and crunchy guitars with stellar solos. And Tom's voice hit me like a ton of bricks. Henrik has been my favourite guitarist for a while. And....yes,Tom was a guest on Ayreon album too ;)
Evergrey is one of my favourite bands of all times since I first heard them back in 2001 with "In Search of Truth", Tom's voice is so warm and passionate. Everything is good from them, but if I have to recommend you some of (for me) their best songs, try "Dark Waters", "A Touch of Blessing", "King of Errors", "In Orbit" or "The Lonely Monarch" just to say some of them. They've done some amazing concept albums, in the past. At the moment me and my fiancee are rewatching the X-Files, and that automatically got me back into listening to "In Search of Truth", which is an amazing album from Evergrey about conspiracies and alien abductions.
The grand collapse/king of errors/passing through/a touch of blessing. Crazy story, I saw these guys back to back nights in Florida a few years back and maybe 50 people showed up. Mind-blowing how underrated this band is in the US.
I found Evergrey from Dark Tranquillity hyping them, and I am glad they did! They're amazing! :)

I have been in bed with Evergrey since the beginning haha! One of the first bands that drew me into the metalscene. They are awesome! I LOVE Tom Englund's voice along with the instruments. Their sound is so unique!
I live in Gothenburg and I went to Metaltown in Gothenburg back in 2009 and saw them. They had the first time (opener) at the first day of the festival. They were hillarious (great sense of humor) and did really connect and interact with the crowd. You should definately check out more of them! Both old and new. My thoughts on upcoming reactions:

Toms vocals are FIRE! One of my all time favorite singers. So heavy yet emotional.
btw, consider yourself lucky for not hearing about them earlier. Now you have tons of "new" music to discover from them. Some of their earlier albums (Recreation Day, In Search of Truth, The Inner Circle) are masterpieces for me.

Yes this band is incredible most guys my age ( I will be 59 in April ) never heard of Evergrey Ive been following them since 2002 the emotional vibes this band gives off is why I love them so much along with Tom's amazing vocals!

8:22 - I understand that feeling. That's the feeling I got when I was first introduced to Evergrey about 12 years ago, and more recently when I "discovered" Nightwish. I have two favourite bands now: Nightwish and Evergrey.
I'm truly jealous of you mr Tank, who has the whole Evergrey journey ahead of you. If it was possible, I had paid a lot of money to go back in time and relive the moment when I heard my first Evergrey song - A touch of blessing (first song by Jonas behind the drum set!!!) for the first time. It was love at first sight and they are still delivering mega hit after hit ...
As you seem to like Floor Janssen, I'd recommend "In orbit" as it is a duet between her and Tom. Additionally, I'd like to recommend some older stuff to you, like "Mark of the triangle". Or generally some live stuff from their live release.

I always see Evergrey as absolute passionate musicians who serve us one sick song after another. They are so unique.
First Evergrey album I heard was The Inner Circle in 2004. I immediatley loved the sound, the riffs were heavy, the melodies were proggy and the singing was raspy and emotional. Their guitarsound is something special man. I've seen them love a few times. I really like this band, and your reaction is also great!
Hi Tank, love your insight into this video. I have been a fan of Evergrey since 2008 and first saw the video for their song "Broken Wings", I too was blown away by the heaviness juxtaposed by Tom's incredible singing. I have been fortunate enough to see them twice and they are just as good live, you will not be disappointed. Another great thing is they come out after the show and hang with the fans and are all very nice and personable guys. The last time I saw them, one of the opening bands wasn't really my cup of tea, so I went outside to get some air and Johan was out behind the club just relaxing and smoking his pipe, we had a very nice conversation for a half hour or so, he's a really great guy. I highly recommend checking out their entire catalog, in particular "Hymns For the Broken" and "The Atlantic", but there is not a bad one in the bunch. Rock on brother! 🤘😀

If you liked this song you should check out Weightless from the album The Atlantic - 2019. As a bass player you are gonna love it. It in fact got me to buy my first bass.
Then there is also In remembrence from the album Monday Morning Apocalypse - 2006. There is so many good songs from them but these are my absolute favourites.

How did this reaction elude me, watching this now in December 2023 wtf. Evergrey is one of my favourite European metalbands. Been lostening to them for 9 years now. Great old reaction Tank🤘
I remember seeing Evergrey at the first ProgPower at a small club in Chicago in 2001, I don't think Tom was happy with his performance but I loved it (and told him so at the end of the night). I also remember standing by their merch table when someone dropped off maybe 5 or 10 copies of their second album (which wasn't released in the US at the time) and snagging one (they were gone in seconds). Its still my favorite, nostalgia being as powerful as it is, but they're all great. I've lost track of how many times I've seen them live since then and I can honestly say they've never disappointed me.
I only just discovered them also. and wow have we been missing out on some amazing music.
If you're going to check out older videos of Evergrey Tank, my first suggestion of recent ones would be "In Orbit" with a guest vocal by Floor Jansen and the remarkable video for "King Of Errors" directed again by Patric Ullaeus
Tom Englund's singing voice always reminds me of the late Chris Cornell. It's like Soundgarden as a metal band. You need to do "In Orbit", Evergrey with Floor Jansen (who was pregnant when they filmed it IIRC)

my first contact with swedish rock was 1985 with the awesome rockband "the leather nun" from gothenburg. I bet, these guys here know them. singer tom not only has a god voice, can play guitar, but is also a cool and charming guy, which was to see in floors talk on her channel with him. great reaction tank, thank you.
I just discovered this band (and song) from Spotify metal radio. And I was thrilled when I found out you had reacted to it. I didn't know they were from Gothenburg (I'm from a place 30 minutes by car north of Gothenburg). I have next to no one to share my melodeath love with, so I'm watching you guys (Tank and Chase). Not only is it apparent that you are knowledgeable from years of experience but it's obvious you love music.
On a side note (but not important): Swedish has soft J's so Johan and Jonas would be closer to Yohan and Yonas in English pronunciation.

Saw them in 1999 in Baltimore at the Powermad Festival and again in 2001 near Chicago at the first Prog Power festival. They've been around for a long time!
