    An interesting tour showing us this abandoned grounded yacht. I enjoyed in full to the end. Thank you, my friend.

      Thanks Rob!! I don't know if it floated away in the last Hurricane or they got in way to close in the shallow area trying to make it to the river.....It could certainly take a while and distance to get that big boat afloat!!

    I've read elsewhere that even with a flood tide they won't be able to pull that boat off the reef, will be an interesting follow.

    Wow. It is insanely shallow around Crawl when you get inside Chassahowitzka Channel.
    I ran off Bayport to A.H. Richardson two weeks ago and that exact vessel was on anchor well off Beacon Rock. Must have lost anchor and drifted North.

      How was the fishing at the reef?

    • @longstrangejourney4776
      @longstrangejourney4776 3 месяца назад +1

      @@thomasmurphy1907 We were there for a morning of Spearfishing, but the initial winds from T.S. Debbie has started and it was really sloppy. There was a layer of "whale snot" in the first two-three feet, so we could not see fish from the surface. We did see one nice Gag in a culvert, which is what we were there to spy on.
      In the end we returned inshore pretty quickly as the seas were continuing to build.
      I did get my very first Chassahowitzka Tarpon that day, so it wasn't all bad.

    if anyone was wondering
    Florida does not have vessel salvage rights laws, so claiming ownership of an abandoned boat is considered theft under Florida law. However, there is a way to claim the vessel and become the legal owner by reporting it to a law enforcement agency and paying the fees. Florida's maritime law covers legal principles and procedures related to salvage operations, vessel arrests, maritime liens, and other admiralty disputes.

    • @WesLovelace
      @WesLovelace  3 дня назад

      Thanks!! I reported the vessel to FWC and was aware of the salvage laws.....This grounding was not worth the cost especially with the possible environmental problems.....After Hurricane Helene the vessel disappeared somewhere up the coast!!

    This looks almost identical (at least from a distance) to a large motor yacht that is beached and abandoned in the lower keys west of the seven mile bridge. The dinghy was gone and the davit swung out. It was still there as of about 3 weeks ago when I was last in the area keeled over in a similar manner in shallow water.

    • @WesLovelace
      @WesLovelace  21 день назад

      Thanks Joey!! With my house damage since Helene I haven't checked to see if the yacht is still up in the Refuge.....with the tidal surge we had the critter has probably moved north of the original location.....Appreciate the interest!!

    Hurricane casualty or abandoned? We get a lot of abandoned boats in our area, people just put them on a short anchor and let them float into shallow water. I couldn’t see if it had numbers on it, which are usually removed, but it still had equipment on it.

      @WesLovelace  3 месяца назад

      Thanks Icy!! This yacht is 60 miles north of Clearwater.....Debby could have moved it that far but FWC was aware of the location before it moved an additional 8 miles to the north to just offshore of the Refuge......FWC was interested if the fuel system had been breached and I could not see any signs of a leak in my 3 rotations of the craft!! I was up there on a 3.4 high ....I'm not sure a flotation collar would get this 20 ton vessel off the bottom!!

  • @houndsmanone4563
    @houndsmanone4563 3 месяца назад +1

    Wes, I'm wondering if a retrieving crew could surround the yacht with a pontoon-like floating deck that would slightly lift the yacht off the reef then pull it with a flat bottom boat. I have no clue how something is removed from such a shallow water area. No matter what, it's going to take some time and money to make it happen. I'm sure the game & wildlife patrol will be involve all the way through the process. Man, that's going to be a tough rescue mission. A big boat in skinny waters. Have a fine weekend, Wes.
