I thoroughly enjoy your videos and your skills. Back in the day I was pretty good with a skidsteer. I needed one of these 22 years ago when I was clearing my woods behind my house with a brush hook. I ended up having a heart attack before finishing. I'm back at it again but this time with a Stihl Brush Whacker. Keep up the great work and God Bless.

So considering taking up forestry mulching as a 3rd career, this video was particularly interesting.
I've run track loaders, but am going to go to a heavy equipment operators course (Bobcat dealer won't talk to me without certs and insurance).
One of the things that I'm still figuring out is which jobs to bid, and which to pass on as a mulching business. I'd be a single man operation, so don't want to do a lot of hand trimming and cutting. This particular job you're on here I'd go back and forth on a lot before deciding to bid or not.
First, is the urban nature of the place. Potential for tons of trash like your bowling ball and more waiting to damage your equipment, or worse, get thrown somewhere and causing damage. There's no way a utility locator guy could have walked that to mark utilities.
Second is the slope. Obviously you have years of experience, but there's no way I personally would have run that machine sideways on such a slope.
Third is duration of the job. I've got a number in mind that I need to make hourly to make ends meet. A job that I can't charge over 4 hours for doesn't make sense in my business model. Prep time, transportation, cleanup and maintenance time at the start and end of the day have to be done whether it's a one hour or 8 hour job, so doing a short job doesn't make sense.
Fourth is the amount of manual cleanup needing to be done here. Again, being a one man show, I don't want to be leaf blowing, weed whacking, and hauling debris.
Does it make sense to market myself to larger contractors who have the crews for everything besides mulching? My core market (at least in my planning stages) would be all these 1+ acre, overgrown lots which have set on the market for a year or more. I would think a realtor would encourage his or her client to get some clearing done to get movement on the property.
