  • Just bunches words about my brother, addiction, time.
    TW: violence, words, alcohol, drugs.
I wrote this just trying to settle my feelings. It's been a long journey, and I really miss my brother. Last week was the worst we've had in a while, but I'm looking forward to a better future.
You are more than whatever you are going through.

this really touched me, man. my brother also struggles with addiction and the past 8 years have been really difficult on our family; i can really relate to much of what you said in your poem.
it is really beautiful how you were able to put all of those thoughts and feelings into words so eloquently. i hope things get better for you and your bro, man!

It couldn't have been easy writing that, but I imagine it was even harder reading it out loud. It was easy to see just how emotional and choked up it got you. I'd say it's also pretty brave of you sharing something so personal and that means so much to you on the internet like you did, but I hope it gets back to your brother and he can listen to your pain and honesty, because if that doesn't make some deep set part of him want to get sober and on the right track, I don't know what will. That was wonderfully written, Sky :)

There are almost no words for how beautiful this is. It's amazing to see you channel something so personal into something so incredible. Don't forget that we all support you, even if we just appear as letters on a screen.

Oh sky I wish I could tell you everything, on how much I admired you from a far, how your charm makes me smile or that this made me really sad because I relate to this feeling oh so well, but I guess we are never alone.

This is so beautiful honestly. My eyes started to water half way through because it hit home. I don't have a sibling battling with an addiction but I am that sibling and honestly watching this and seeing how you as his brother just always wish to see the better in him made me rethink everything. Being the addict is so hard because you want to be better for others but that demons inside you holds you back and makes you want them more. This really opened my eyes up because I see my best friend as a younger sister. She always wants me to get better but I'm just always so narrow-minded I just didn't want to listen to anything she had to say. But this made me realize that maybe she just wants me to ignore the darkness in me and have me see the light. I'm crying typing this up god thank you so much for this video... it's shed a new light for me.

You had me sobbing by the end of the video. It was quite courageous of you to spill your guts like you did and it was beautifully written. Prayers for your family, particularly your brother. May you get to see your brother sober forever and have a happy life together. You deserve as much. Xoxo Nathalie

goddamn I nearly cried. this is touching and eloquent and beautiful, Sky. as someone with an addiction I can appreciate the immense difficulty of recovery, and I'm telling you that it must mean the world to him that you continue to support him and be such a good brother. Much love for you, your brother, and your family

This was amazing to hear. It was beautifully crafted, and then spoken so passionately. I really don't sit for these things well, and I just literally couldn't draw my attention away for anything, the house could of been burning down and I wouldn't of even so much as batted an eye, until it was over. Good job, Sky. And thanks for sharing such an intimate story with us. I hope all will be/is well.

After 25 years of sobriety and thousands of meetings I'm sitting here crying my eyes out. Recovery works, but you've got to want it. It's not easy, but you've got to want it. Your brother can do it , but HE's got to WANT IT. You and yours and I can only watch and hope and pray. I will hope and pray.

wow skylar. As for him and knowing every word you go through with your sibling who is 2 years older than you. he is lucky. my sister is lucky. forgiveness is the only way. I have a tattoo on my chest that says, "I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself"..the rest is...I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself, a bird will fall frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself." D.H. Lawrence an amazing writer and poet you NEED to read, and start by reading about who he is as a human and who he is as a writer. Anyway..I guess that was a weird comment. but its what I felt hearing this. Your grace and pureness is very refreshing. KEEP DOING EVERYTHING YOURE DOING AND MORE! and keep being CRAZY EXCITED about EVERYTHING :) Im starting T this month. Here we go :) I share your excitement right now too! LOVE.

This really touched my heart and even though I don't know what this feels like because I'm still young but the future scares me and it can all change. but I hope that everything will be OK and that I wont have to go through the pain of some people. I will have my own obstacles and I will have to make it through, maybe not on my own.
I hope every one will be OK and we will make it through the tough times together.
    XxX

our transition timelines are about the exact same. my sister is an addict. my mom and dad both. addiction is all throughout my family. she was deepest in my middle school/ early high school years and went through 3+ years of rehabs everywhere. i have those memories of things breaking and everything surrounding whether or not she would be back. shes been clean now 5 years though. its great. its weird how it affects us.
