- This video shows some examples of how a converted wheelbarrow can look using the kit bundles with the Bafang wheelbarrow hub and our Baserunner_Z9 motor controller and LiGo batteries. This is a product package still in an early release cycle stage using ebike hardware and is intended for people who are already familiar with Grin's ebike gear. Over time we expect to further customize the hardware parts to this wheelbarrow application for more mainstream users.
The advanced system with a CA3 display and MFSwitch is available here:

And the parts for a more barebones throttle-only setup are here

I don’t about anyone else here but when I’m using a wheelbarrow I’m doing some back yard chores. Notice how I said ‘I’m doing chores’ meaning I can’t afford to pay someone else to do the work for me. Man-o-man that setup would save my back and whole body for that matter. I would definitely be in the market for one if only the market price was down about 90%! I’m quite confident to predict high volume sales of only the price was down to where a regular Joe could afford one of those wonderful machines. I can’t remember the last time I saw a millionaire pushing a wheelbarrow around. Maybe now that the workload have significantly declined we just might see a millionaire pushing a wheelbarrow.
-pretty cool to have so much torque and power in a small wheel.
-nice and clean control system too.
-also fun.
“Grin” suddenly makes sense…

Got my kit in the mail yesterday. Looking forward to installing it soon! I might have to add the headlight mod. Good idea for those projects that take longer than expected. ie All of my projects.
Yeah as fall/winter sets in it'll be a super nice touch to add the lights. Since you didn't get a CA with your kit, the natural point to tap into battery power for running the front lights would be the 6 pin JST Cycle Analyst plug. Pins 1 and 2 will have V+ and Gnd on them respectively which can be used to tap into the battery voltage.
@@GrinTechnologies Good advice. Thanks! I got everything set up today and realized that I need a USB-TTL cable to program the controller. Doh! Might be worth adding that as an option to the wheelbarrow kit during checkout?
@@markpetzold Hey Mark, good point for sure. It should ship already programmed with a good set of settings but for those wanting to play deeper we should have that option be more prominent. I'll go update the page ASAP.
@@GrinTechnologies Ah, good to know. I must be doing something else wrong then. I'll contact support to follow up. Thanks for the quick response!
After some help from the fantastic support team I got the wheelbarrow working and used it all day today to haul boulders and soil. Absolutely brilliant. Thanks Grin team!
Love this! I'm looking for help fitting a wheel-motor to a standard automotive cargo trailer axle's wheel-spindle. The 2,000-7,000 lb capacity axle systems can include a 4-bolt flange on the inboard side of the spindle (wheel), to which I can mount the wheel-motor. Unlike bicycle-style hub motors, the motor would accommodate a much fatter spindle (I'm guessing 3/4" diameter?), and the motor assembly would mate to either a standard automotive trailer wheel (4-on 4" or 5-on 4-1/2" hub mounting bolt pattern), or (more ideally?) to a custom wheel fitted with bearings for the conventional trailer spindle, but set up for smaller, lighter (taller?) tires. I'm aiming for an ambitious sensor-controlled motor-controller that automatically keeps the inertia of trailer relative to pilot near zero, and can do so with payloads of 1000-2000 lbs (2500-3,000 lbs, gross vehicle weight). I like the trailer wheel spindles because they provide for heavy load on single-sided wheel mount, and there are off-the-shelf independent suspensions for these by Timbren (axle-less double-acting rubber springs) and FlexiRide ('half-axle' torsion suspension), so no need for complicated out-rigger trailer frames to accommodate fork-style wheel dropouts. Is there a wheel motor that could just sandwich into an adapted drum brake assembly? See Twitter @eMULE for my project blog, and to message me. Thanks!
Might I add a VESC and a lever that turns on self balancing... Yes I would.
Justin, great video and creative use of your products!
The olden days trip. Nice work. TY. In my to buy list.
Love the cruise control 👍
I now understand why the name is Grin. That was hilarious 🤣
where was this when i was 15 yrs old,,,OMG,,,welp,,let me order 2
Brilliant work! Next add on a gyro so you can haul even heavier loads without tipping 😜
Always more fun to add a gryo control than simply putting additional castor wheels on the ground, in't it!
What are the specs for brake disk? I zoomed in and seen Magura parts, but any of you have installed it and if so, what can you share about it?
Thanks in advance!
The motor mounting bracket has an is caliper mount holes on it for a standard disc installation just like a bicycle wheel. By default that would mean a 160mm rotor
Nice tee. Got any by Gord Hill "Zig Zag)? He has some nice ones in the Kwakwaka'wakw style...
Amazing!
Boy is this ever a huge time AND BACK saver. Seriously, reducing on the job injuries with this, makes it worthwhile. How waterproof or resistant is this set up? Many many times we have to haul concrete from the truck to a back yard, and then wash out the tubs. I mean we wouldn't spray the electronics with water, but nevertheless, concrete splashes all over and it does have to be rinsed off. Thanks, and keep up the great work.
Great Video!!! Hi from Seattle
Brilliant 👏
Website doesn't work. Tried to add basic kit to cart and it won't accept addition. Also confusing, the website keeps telling me to select "mandatory" options ??? I just wanted the basic kit...no options.
We are currently out of wheelbarrow motors with the tire pre-installed, so the only option is to select the bare hub option.
Can you run them in tandem? For 2 wheeled wheelbarrows! also maybe add the batteries to the package options.
Yes for sure, we offer a few splitter cable options to facilitate this.
Electric wheel is very useful
Could this be modified (???controller???) to have two or four wheels (wagon/cart) and reverse?
You can run multiple hub motors simultaneously but each motor needs it's own controller, if you're interested in doing this Justin has a deep dive on multi motor systems/ setup. ruclips.net/video/Ub4EP2_mAds/видео.html
A fun idea. Be Well.
simple and useful
Got a garden cart/wagon version?
amazing 😁🤩
Could I stick two of these on a wagon to haul shit at music festivals? Would they be strong enough?
I hope it has Strava connectivity!, Well that was my attempt to make some humor!! yet... i find myself wanting one these!
Ha ha, we'll leave that feature to the wheelbarrow extremers...

The batteries should better be in the front of the wheelbarrow. The main hardness of handling a wheel barrow is the pull by the hands; the act of pushing by feet is the easier task.
These Ligo batteries weigh only a couple pounds.
👍🏻👍🏻
I could have used one of these over the decades ….
has anyone tried adapting this to a trike. i have a peninger voyager - delta style. i would have someone else attempt.
It's possible for sure and would be quite straighforward as long as you can make a front fork that is 155mm wide.
Unless there's something I'm missing about your particular circumstance or application, this is the WRONG motor for your trike (I did Google it, FWIW). What's your budget? What kind of range do you require/want? How hilly is your area? What top speed are you aiming for? Unless you want to go slow with a huge load, this is needless effort and expense for a disappointing result.
You need 5000w motor
Yes...if you want to move the 5t of concrete in one shot.
Nice yob
3 55lb bags aren’t over 200lb….just saying
There are 4 bags there I swear, even if the video editing cropped us adding in the last one...
