Proud owner of the original gp-x. two of them. Still bring me and the gents such joy. Its a pity they are not made anymore Hearing the surfer being classified as "vintage" made me laugh.
It'll certainly knock the vegemite out of the flamin' galah! And if you extend the cooling plate of the controller even further out, there won't be much left of the flamin' galah for a refill.
Man I wish I could find one of these. Been looking for an eternity it seems. Oddly enough I had been wanting one for this exact purpose. Would be excellent short range travel tool that's a lot more compact than an ebike. May end up having to build my own.
That works too but it's actually quite freeing not having your hands occupied with a throttle control, and makes it easier to carry stuff in your hands while riding.
Custom make a battery to fit all those 18650s in between the tube frame and then plate over it with aluminum to protect the battery and electronics and at the same time having a mint skid pan and possibly storage space for tools or something maybe
Well if you have metalworking skills and a suitable workshop you can make almost anything! The dirt surfers themselves have been out of production for a very long time, so to buy one you'd have to find a used unit that someone has for sale.
Any Dirtsurfer is a super basic conversion actually, no gears like a bike, both wheels are a standard bicycle front tire 20" or 16", therefore any front hub motor with 100mm axle length is compatible. The larger Direct Driver motors can't be spoked into a 16" size wheel like on the GP16 but can for the larger and more readily available 20" Dirtsurfers, that's why this conversion was a smaller geared Shengyi SX1 motor. If you don't have access to 3D printing/ metal shop tools, then you could skip building the custom accelerator arm and just hold the throttle in your hand. Twist throttles work best for that. It's hard to find batteries with the profile of the old LiGo's which are now extinct, so you would have to get extra creative with mounting a battery since there is such low clearance on the underbelly of the beast!
This is the kind of urban transport I love to see.

Fun project! Cool to see the trouble shooting and solutions
This is sick, I've been thinking about tackling a project like this but I didn't know where to source a dirtsurfer
There are a few still floating around but they've been out of production for a while so are increasingly hard to find. Good luck in the hunt!
Great to see unique applications for electric motors...keep up the great work :).
With this video your life comes to a full circle Aaron.
You're a real man now.
Not quite, to complete the right of passage to manhood I still must dirtsurf across Perú/Bolivia.
Nice to see Aaron in front of the camera!

Woohoo!!!.. I wanna see the hubmotor vivisection please..)/* and your take on locking the clutch..
The moment he gets on this thing you can see him relive his childhood. and zone out into this dirtsurf contraption
Hey Aaron ! E-Dirtsurfer rocks!
The Seba? No wayyy
You guys have a lot of fun!

You might be in luck, those other two in the video are for sale
@@CurlyFurlong Really!? How much would you guys want for one of them?
Did you make kits for these? I have been thinking about doing my street model and like your idea.
Not an explicit kit but it's pretty easy to pull off with any 20" hub motor system and a bit of diy around the throttle control
@@GrinTechnologies that’s my plan. Great video!
That would be awsome with a cyberpunk mohawk helmet wig.
This thing was ahead of it‘s time, I‘d love to ride that, what‘s the proceed range?
I’d buy one.
Nah nah nah, Pulse jet. Pulse jet is what you want.
So sick
What language do you guys use in your controllers? I love the SX2 on my bike.
How do you tip-in to most controllers? Kelly controllers have a dedicated port.
I seen someone in Brooklyn with one. Was wondering what this was.
You don't see too many in the wild these days, cool that you were able to spot one!
Hand held remote throttle would be perfect for this setup.
That works too but it's actually quite freeing not having your hands occupied with a throttle control, and makes it easier to carry stuff in your hands while riding.
I have one exactly the first one except mine is black..but l'm going to sell it any idea what the value is

awesome!
Gotta see it off-road in future videos.
Dude I'm not even looking to buy one. If i could get the blueprints i could just build it myself
I’ll take two
Where can I purchase a Dirtsurfer??
Can we make our own or can we only buy them?

fun stuff!
Can a normal person do this? I want to do my own.
